FARRELL, Mary - 79, Meaghers Grant, passed away May 8, 2000 in the QEII Health Science Centre. Born in Meaghers Grant, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Janet (Grant) Roberts. Mary was a member of St. James United Church. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, and playing bingo. Surviving are daughters, Ethyl, Meaghers Grant; Ann (Wayne Moser), Dartmouth; brother, Foster , Stoney Creek, Ontario; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased are her husband, Kenneth; brother, Chester. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, at Ettingers Funeral Home, Middle Musquodoboit. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. James United Church, Meaghers Grant. Rev. Linda Yates officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

BARKHOUSE, Katie Arlene - We regret to announce the passing away of our beloved mother, Katie Arlene Barkhouse, Martins Point, Lunenburg. Co., on May 9, 2000, in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. She was a daughter of the late John and Gertrude Zwicker, (Gold River). She is survived by daughters, Mavis (Richard) Thornhill, Frankford, Ont.; Linda (Stanley) Drake, Martins River; and sons Sydney (Shirley), Western Shore; John (Caroline), Greenwood; Lewis (Paulette), Martins River; Thomas (Elaine), Martins Point; and daughter-in-law, Sandra, Martins Point; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; brothers, Earl and Gary; sisters, Lena, Mae, Norma and Florence. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Frederick Sr.; son, Frank Frederick Jr. (Jackie) and sister, Blanche. Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 12, in St. Mark's Anglican Church, Martins Point, Rev. Michael Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in the Western Shore Cemetery. Family Flowers only. BOUTILIER, Mary Isabell (Tutty) - 89, of Wadden's Cove, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2000 at her residence in Wadden's Cove. Born in Homeville, she was the daughter of the late Ephriam and Amy (Murrant) Tutty. Mrs. Boutilier was a member of Christ Anglican Church, South Head. She is survived by 3 daughters, Amy (Mrs. Edward Wadden), Lillian (Mrs. Douglas Keets), both of Wadden's Cove and Glenda (Mrs. John Dillon) Birch Grove. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; also several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Boutilier was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charles, 2 children and one granddaughter in infancy and a sister, Jean Green. Visitation will be in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday in Christ Anglican Church, Wadden's Cove with Rev. Paul Findlay officiating. Burial will be in the parish Cemetery. Mrs. Boutiliers remains will be transferred to Christ Church at noon on Friday.

BURT, James Frederick - 88, Mulgrave, passed away May 8, 2000, in Saint Martha Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Boxey, Nfld., he was a son of the late Thomas and Phoebe Burt. He was a member of St. Andrews Church, Mulgrave and a member of Temple Lodge 57, Mulgrave for over 40 years. Surviving are his wife, the former Sara Martin; daughter, Hilda Drake, Mulgrave; sons, Cyril Burt, Mulgrave; sisters, Susie Blagdon, Newfoundland; Vera Bruce, Sydney; Dora Rose, Newfoundland; brothers, George Burt, Sydney; Linus Burt, Ontario. He was predeceased by sisters, Margaret Rodgers, Rita Burt, May Rose, Bella Tibbetts; brothers, Marshal Burt, Samuel Burt, Larry Burt, Cyril Burt. CLARK, Evelyn Pearl - The death of Evelyn Pearl Clark, age 75 years, Union Street, Westville, occurred suddenly on Tuesday, May 9, 2000, in Willow Lodge, Tatamagouche. Born in Thorburn, she was a daughter of the late Tupper and Josephine (Mason) MacLeod. She was a member of St. Paul United Church, Westville and a member of the U.C.W. Mrs. Clark is survived by her husband, Murray; daughters, Judy MacNeill (Ben Sibilde), Lorne; Maureen Raniowski (Peter), Abercrombie; Colleen Webb (Bill), Westville; son, David (Connie), Thorburn; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by two sisters, Helen Hood, Stellarton and Ferna Betts, Ontario. She was predeceased by brothers, Raymond, Wilson "Mac", and William "Tupper" and a son-in-law, Wallace MacNeill. Funeral will be held today at 2 p.m. in Eagles Funeral Home, Westville, Rev. Donald Sutherland officiating. Burial in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens, Sylvester.

CORKERY, John Dennis - 63, of Dartmouth, passed away May 9, 2000 in the New Infirmary site, QEII, born in Dartmouth he was the son of the late William and Henrietta (Corns) Corkery. He served with Imperial Oil on the tankers for seven years. He sailed with the Coast Guard on the northern excursions. He also served with the Halifax and Dartmouth Marine Slips for over 30 years. He is survived by three sisters, Anna Green, of Eastern Passage; Catherine Blank, of Dartmouth; Marion Hawke, of Dartmouth; three brothers, Joseph, of Halifax; Lawrence, of Dartmouth; Earl of Dartmouth; also numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by one brother, William in infancy. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. today, May 11, 2000 in A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth, with Rev. Born in Kentville, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Hattie May (Day) Moors. She had worked at Evergreen Home for Special Care, Kentville, retiring after 18 years. She had been a member of the Salvation Army. She enjoyed playing bingo. Surviving are a son, Ronald (Valerie), Somerset; daughter, Dianne Little, Coldbrook; sisters, Eileen (Jerry) Toner, Ontario; Florence Sheffield, Dorothy (James) Bent, all of Kentville; grandchildren, Tracey, Patricia, Richard and Mindy; five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. EISNER, Arthur Silas - 78, of Chester Basin, passed away peacefully May 8, 2000 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Marriotts Cove, son of the late Stanley and Georgina (Hiltz) Eisner. He enjoyed woodcarving, fishing, bowling and spending time with his family. He spent over thirty years with his brother, Norman in their autobody business. He was a loving husband, proud father and grandfather. Survived by his wife, the former Susan Murphy; daughter, Judy (Don) Rafuse; son, Bernie (Mary Ann), Chester Basin; brother, Norman (Averil) Eisner, Marriotts Cove; sisters, Marion Kaizer, Halifax; Joan Perron (Richard), Northboro, MA; Josie Hiltz, Western Shore; Beaula Schnare, Chester; Heather Kaizer, Chester Basin; granddaughters, Christa (Lohn) HIck (Rafuse), Leanne Rafuse and grandson, Trevor Eisner; great granddaughter, Kylee Hick. He had a special place in his heart for his son-in-law, Donald Rafuse and daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Eisner and Lohn Hick. Predeceased by his sister, Minnie Fitzgerald. There will be no visitation. Born in Martock, NS, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Rachel (Greenough) Kehoe. She is survived by her son, Gerald (Jan), Surrey, BC; daughters, Cheryl (Wayne) Metcalfe, Ruidoso, New Mexico; Linda (Robert) Russell, Dana Point, California; Janice (Steven) Feener, Brenda (Bayne) DeYoung, both of Dartmouth; Stacey (Neale) Ridgway, Halifax; brothers, Harold, Florida; Carl, John, both of Ontario; Lawrence, Three Mile Plains; sisters, Bernice Pace, Sharon Cple, both of British Columbia; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren. FRASER, William Edward "Eddie" - 82, Valley View Villa, Riverton, formerly of Meadowville, passed away May 8, 2000, in the villa. Born and raised in Meadowville, he was a son of the late George Edward and Isabella Jane (Baillie) Fraser. A woodsman, construction worker for Higgins Construction, and farmer, Ed was a kind-hearted neighbour and friend. He thought of others and their needs before himself. Ed was deeply loved by all of his family and friends and he will be missed. He is survived by sisters, Anna Urquart, New Glasgow; Jean Campbell, Sutherlands River and Luella Cummings, Truro; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews. A life member of the Lady Minto Rebecca Lodge in Springhill and a member of the Myrtle Chapter No. 21 Order of the Eastern Star, Truro. She was secretary to Dr. R.F. Ross and also worked at N.W. Casson Ltd. Jewellery Store, Truro. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are grandniece, Susan Plummer, Fredericton, N.B. She was predeceased by her husband, Stephen M.; brother, Frank; sister, Vivian. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Mattatall Funeral Home, Truro. No visitation by request. HANNA, Eric Thomas - 59, 37 Granville Drive, Truro, passed away on May 8, 2000, at home. Born in Sydney, he was a son of Fred (Carol) Hanna, Sydney and the late Jean Lahey. A former resident of Sydney, Eric served with the Canadian Armed Services in Cypress and Germany, as well as Gagetown and Debert. He had been a resident of Truro and area for the past 20 years. He was an avid hockey and baseball fan and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He is survived by his wife, Doris; daughters, Sabine (Doug) Pace, Truro; Michelle Hanna-Ricks (Frank), Virginia; son, Scott (Kim) Hanna, Calgary, Alta.; grandchild, Dustin; sisters, Yvonne (Michael), California; Brenda, Ontario; brothers, Freddy (Elaine) and Lawrence, both of Sydney. Born in North Sydney, he was a son of the late Celestine and Frances (Foot) Hannams. He was employed with the off-shore fishery for many years as a dragger fisherman until his retirement. He was a member of St. John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg and an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Lunenburg Branch 23. He is survived by his wife, the former Geraldine Oxner; daughters, Corinne (Ricky) Johnson, Rhodes Corner; Nancy (Jeff) DeMont, Gold River; Lynne (Kerry) Oickle, Conquerall Bank; son, Richard (Debra), Charlottetown; sisters, Mary Hickey, Halifax; Violet Skinner, Garden Lots; Laura Risser, Lunenburg; Elizabeth Eisenhauer, Riverport; Alma Tanner, Blue Rocks, Janet Burns, Bridgewater; eight grandchildren. MacLEOD-CONNELL, Norma Jean - 52, 323 Arthur Street, New Waterford, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2000 in the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital after a short courageous battle with cancer. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Angus and Beatrice (Beaton) MacLeod. She was a member of Calvin United Church. Surviving are her daughters, Karyn (James Campbell), Halifax; Vicky (Tommy Helle), Raylene (Wayne MacNamara), both of Kitchener, Ont.; son, Cally (Giselle Chiasson), New Waterford; a grandson, Gavyn and a granddaughter, Mikayla; former husband, Gus Connell, New Waterford; nephew, David MacLeod and nieces, Judy and Donna MacLeod, Ontario and very close friend, Marilyn Leudy; several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Calvin. Visitation is today in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Homes, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford, 2-4, 7-9 p.m., body will be moved to the Calvin United Church at noon on Friday, followed by the funeral at 2:30 p.m., Reverend Duncan Roach officiating. Surviving are sons, John, George, Bedford; Samuel, Moncton, NB; John Burton, Lower Sackville; daughters, Colleen Landry, Gladys Glawson, Halifax; Heather Arsenault, Sackville; Diane McLean, Ontario; brother, Donald, Ontario; sister, Colleen Taylor, Ontario; 15 grandchildren; five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Burton Harding; son, Ronald; two brothers in infancy. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Rd., Halifax. HENDERSON, Dr. Robert Brenton - B.A. (Mount Allison), R.N. (Weyburn Psychiatric Nursing College), B.Sc. (University of Manitoba), M.D. (Dalhousie 1963), age 66, of Maple Ridge, British Columbia, passed away May 8, 2000, in Ridge Meadows Hospital, Maple Ridge, B.C.; after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Brookfield, he was a son of Marjorie F. (Campbell) Henderson and the late Donald Brenton Henderson. He was a member of Knox United Church, Brookfield. Surviving are brothers, Terry (Mary), Brookfield; Donald I. "Turk" (and companion Lesley Harvey), Brule and Calgary; Phil (Judy), Halifax; Mike (Brenda), Brookfield; sister, Judy (Mrs. Hugh Matheson), Brookfield; sister-in-law, Helene, Brookfield; and cousins adopted as brother and sister, Bob (Linda) Campbell, Brookfield; and Nancy (Mrs. Greg Van Tassell), Brookfield. He is also loved by his 28 nieces and nephews and 26 grandnieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Donald; brother, Colonel Ned; sister-in-law, Vera Mae; nephew, Ted. Bob was an unrivaled source of inspiration and leadership for his entire family. Upon graduating from Dalhousie Medical School, Bob joined the United Church's Medical Mission Field and practiced in Queen Charlotte City and Waglisla (Bella Bella), B.C., until 1979. He also practiced in Vancouver and Granisle, B.C. and finally in Maple Ridge. He was a one-of-kind humanitarian, often the only medical practitioner in the isolated communities he served. He became a lifelong friend and foster family member to numerous members of the Heiltsuk Nation; they showed their respect and love by proclaiming "Dr. Bob" a full-fledged Honourary Chief. The Heiltsuk will hold an honourary feast in his honor in Bella Bella. A memorial service will be held Friday at Knox United Church, Brookfield at 2:30 p.m., Rev. Larry Harrison officiating. Memorial services will also be held in Maple Ridge on Saturday, and Waglisla (Bella Bella) at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation, Maple Ridge, c/o the new CAT-Scan Fund or to the Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex, Brookfield.

JEFFERS, Gary Arthur - 58, Great Village and formerly of Truro and Glenholme, passed away on May 9, 2000, in the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Truro, he was a son of Kathleen Jeffers and the late Wilfred Jeffers. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy, was a past president and founding member of Atlantis Housing and was an avid fisherman. He was a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and has a special love for his children and grandchildren. Gary was also a proud and grateful member of A.A. for 21 years. He is survived by his wife, Maura; daughter, Tammy (Gordie), Bible Hill; son, Kevin (Linda); brother, Keith (Cheryl); granddaughter, Kathleen Mae Atkinson; grandson, Nicholas Cody Wyman Jeffers; stepchildren, James and Erin Moore; step-granddaughter, Bethany. Gary was predeceased by his first wife, Dora; sister, Joyce. Funeral service 2 p.m. today, in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, Captain Albert Pennell officiating. KELLAM, Douglas Fairbanks - 79, of Dartmouth, passed away May 9, 2000 in the Camphill Veterans Memorial Site, QEII. Born in Moncton, NB, he was the son of the late William and Teresa (White) Kellam. He served overseas with the 4th Princess Louise Dragoon Guards in World War II. He worked with Nova Scotia Power as a Stationary Engineer until his retirement. He served as Sergeant of Arms on the Veterans Council for many years. Survived by wife, the former Norah May Neve; two daughters, Colleen (Mrs. Glen Simpson), of Dartmouth; Bernice (Mrs. Duane Neumann), of Evergreen, Colorado, USA; one granddaughter, Jennifer. Predeceased by a son, Terrance and daughter, Teresa, both in infancy. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2000 in the Dartmouth Memorial Gardens, Rev. Frank Kohler officiating. Donations may be made to the Salvation Army Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home.

KELLY, Mary Magdalen - 78, of North Street, Glace Bay, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2000 at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex. Born in Big Pond, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Helen (MacPhee) Butts. Mrs. Kelly was a former member of St. Annes's Church, Glace Bay. Mrs. Kelly is survived by daughters, Helen (Mrs. Denis Lever), Sandra (Mrs. Blair Wadden), Karen Kricak, Deborah (Mrs. Tony Boutilier), all of Glace Bay and Rose (Mrs. Hugh MacKinnon), Springfield, Mass.; sons, Joseph (Beryl), Glace Bay; and Walter (Shelley), Dominion; brothers, Tom Butts, New Brunswick and Neil Butts, Glace Bay; sisters, Bridget Radkey and Rose MacDonald, both of Glace Bay; 15 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Michael Joseph; son, Thomas Jude, in infancy; brother, Fred, and sister, Mary Ellen Morrison. Visitation for the late Mrs. Kelly will be held Friday, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Anne's Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Doug Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in the parish Cemetery. Donations in Mary's memory to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia are suggested as an expression of sympathy.

MacDONALD, Allister C. - 77, Stewiacke and formerly of Brookfield, passed away on May 9, 2000, in the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Elwood and Elizabeth (Bailey) MacDonald. He was a retired stationary engineer at the Colchester Regional Vocational School. He served overseas with the North Novas from 1939-1945 during the Second World War in Italy, France and Germany. He is survived by a daughter, Sheila Archibald and spouse Charles Stone, Stewiacke; sons, David A. and wife Carol, Kentville; Dannie C. and wife Mary, Greenhill, Pictou Co.; Elwood and wife Ruth, Alton; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Phyllis Blakeney; four older sisters. Visitation will be held today from 3:30-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., with Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26 conducting a tribute service at 7 p.m. Funeral service on Friday at 2 p.m., all in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, Rev. Ron Frampton officiating. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Stewiacke East. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Children's Wish Foundation.

LEWIS, Roland Willard - passed away May 6, 2000, in Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Westmount, he was a son of the late Gerald and Maude (Stapleton) Lewis. Surviving are his wife, the former Marie MacNeil; daughters, Donna LeLievre, Sydney; Debra Chiasson, Blacketts Lake; Diane McKay, Coxheath; son, Gary, Sydney; seven grandchildren; sisters, Irene Leon, Sydney; Norma O'Leary, California; brothers, Lloyd, Westmount; Bernard, New Minas; Sinclair, Westmount; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Gerald. No visitation, cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. Memorial mass held in Holy Rosary Church, Westmount Friday, May 12, Rev. LORD, Margaret Eliz - 85, of Kentville, Kings County, NS, passed away May 8, 2000 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Fredericton, NB, she was a daughter of the late G. and Cora E. Ross. Margaret worked as a secretary for the Nova Scotia Sanitorium in Kentville for many years until her retirement. Surviving is a daughter, Judy (Dave) Young, Lower Sackville, NS; grandson, Paul Young, Halifax; granddaughter, Lynn Young, Kamloops, BC; great grandsons, Eric and Adam Young, Halifax; brother, Malcolm Ross and niece, Julie Ross, both of Halifax. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Lord. Visitation today from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. until the time of her funeral service at 2 p.m. in the H.C. KUMAR-MISIR, Stella - of Halifax, passed away May 5, 2000 at home. Born in Trinidad, she emmigrated to Canada in the 1970s. She was a teacher in Trinidad and Toronto for several years up to her retirement. Stella is survived by sons, Mervyn (Kim), of Halifax; Leslie, of Ottawa; Victor (Joyce) of Texas, USA; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and brother, Frank. She was predeceased by husband, Kenneth; and brother, Nazool. Visiting will be today, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. at Snow's Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax. A service will be held at Snow's on Friday at 2 p.m. Cremation will follow at a later date.

McGUSHIN, Stephen William - 76, Bridgewater, passed away May 8, 2000, in Fishermens Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Tipperary, Ireland, he was a son of the late Stephen and Margaret (Sheridan) McGushin. He is survived by his wife, the former Martha Lawrence; daughter, Frances (Kirk Himmelman), Bridgewater; granddaughters, Jeananne (Stephen) Weagle, Dartmouth; Cathryn (Scott) Adams, Fall River; great-grandchildren, Riley and Emma Adams; brothers, Peter and Gerry, Western Australia; sister, Josie MacIntyre, West Australia; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Margaret Ann Hepburn; brothers, Patrick and John. There will be no memorial service. The family will receive friends and relatives this evening from 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater. No flowers by request. O'BRIEN Charles Joseph "Chuck" - 73, Mahone Bay, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, May 6, 2000, in the South Shore Regional Hospital. Born in 1927 in Rochester, New York, he was the only son of Helen Nolen and Charles Joseph O'Brien Senior. He attended High School at St. Pat's, Quebec City, Que. He served in the Second World War in the American Air Force. He resided in Antigonish, from 1948-1991. He marriage Moira Lynn McCarthy in 1951, graduated from St. F. X. University in 1952 and was a pioneer in the Maritime Ski Industry. He loved to play with his dog, Zack. He is survived by his children, Patsy, Peggy, Joey, Brenda and Sheila; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; an infant son, William and his beloved wife Moira. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. A Remembrance Gathering will be hosted by his children for friends to drop by between 6-9 p.m. today, May 11 to 121 Long Cove Road, Mahone Bay.

SAMPSON (Bailey), Ann Marie L.P.N. - St. Peters Road, Sydney, passed away May 9, 2000, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Charles "Ace" and Anna (Bonaparte) Bailey. She was a member of the St. Theresa Parish, Sydney. She was a licensed Practical Nurse and had her BA from U.C.C.B. Before her illness she worked at the Breton Bay Nursing Home. Surviving are her husband, Danny McDonnell, Sydney; daughter, Doreen Coady; Alexina, Nadine, Sydney; sisters, Dorothy MacDonald, Sydney; Willena Cook, Sydney; Donita Ley, Mississauga; brother, Charlie Bailey, Ontario; two grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sister, Norma MacSween. Funeral 3:30 p.m. today in St. Theresa Church, Rev. A. MacDougall officiating. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. SILVER, D'Arcy James - 44, Hemford, Lunenburg Co., passed away May 7, 2000, at home. Born in Terrance Bay, Ont., he was a son of LaVerta (Silver) Silver, Lower Northfield and the late Raymond Silver. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 102, New Germany, an affiliate member of the United Church of Canada. He owned and operated his own carpentry business, D.J. Silver Contractor, Hemford. He was an avid card player, hunter and enjoyed spending time in his camp. Surviving are his wife, the former Deborah Bolivar; daughters, Eva Silver, Wolfville; Erin Silver, Bedford; sisters, Donna Nauss, Susan Meisner, Hemford; brother, Peter Silver, New Germany; many nieces and nephews. STRAUGHAN, Mildred Eva - 83, Northwood Manor, formerly of Roslyn Road, Halifax, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, May 9, 2000 in the manor. Born January 9, 1917 in Dartmouth, she was a daughter of the late Erlin and Greta (Meikel) Zinck. She was a member of St. Philip's Anglican Church, Halifax, as well as the Ladies Guild. She worked for Sobeys for a number of years and then at CJCH as a switchboard operator. She was an active member of Weight Watchers in earlier years. Surviving are her brother, Jim Zinck, Halifax; sister-in-law, Dorothy Zinck, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Heather Tucker, Calgary; Jackie Fontaine, Cornwall, Ont.; Cheryl Straughan, Lower Sackville; Jamie Straughan, Halifax; Pam Straughan, Middle Sackville; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James Straughan Sr.; son, James Erlin Straughan; brother, Tobe Zinck. Visitation 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. today, May 11, in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax. THOMAS, Helen Elizabeth - 79, Halifax, passed away Sunday morning, May 7, 2000 at home. Born October 23, 1920, in Bittern Lake, Alta., she was a daughter of the late George and Clara (Holmstrom) Cple. She attended Bethany United Church in earlier years. She played guitar and enjoyed singing. As well, she and her husband took great pride in their home, having developed it into the beautiful landscape it is today. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, C.R. Thomas; son, Roy Thomas, Halifax; sisters, Eileen (Frank) Boyce, Edmonton, Alta.; Dorothy Swaren, Bowden, Alta.; brother, Ronald (Gladys) Cple, Taber, Alta.; seven nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. today, May 11, 2000, all in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax, Rev. Donald Crooks officiating. Flowers welcome. Interment will be in Oakridge Memory Gardens, Lower Sackville.
