"Wills", as everybody knew him, hid his bushel of talents under a bushel.
As a husband and father, born in Guyana in 1942, he carried on the influence of his parents to the next generation. His example remains for them. As is often the case, such influence remains intangible, even un-noticed. Only in moments of stress does positive, parental influences like Wills' become manifest.
As a student and scholar, Wills was a born teacher. He earned his way up the academic scale. He started with minimal teacher education and experience in Guyana, earned a Bachelor's degree at the University of Western Ontario, a Master's degree and Doctorate at Wayne State University. He taught all his career in Sarnia high schools and latterly at Baker College in Port Huron, Michigan. He authored several published works, most notably his Ph. D. thesis on education in Guyana and "Save the Earth". A book on healthy environment practices. Wills suffered severely from the political bug. It began with his bar-tending days at Cheddi Jagan's house in Guyana. He served as a Sarnia Municipal Alderman for sixteen years intermittently from 1976 to 1994. He was actively involved in bringing about the Sarnia Festival of Lights, handicapped parking in Sarnia, Vial of Life program, altitude pressure adjustment on natural gas bills and the (abortive) Walk of Fame. In politics, you don't always win, but in the classroom you have to win. His particular talent of team-making served him well in Council and in other achievements. Most notable amongst these were his contributions to the Sarnia Cricket Club and to the India-Canada Association not to mention eight years as chairman of fund raising for Hip Hop Hooray. Throughout the ups and downs of public life, Wills maintained a public air of equanimity backed by an infectious laugh. He could laugh infectiously even as he told his oompah joke for the fourteenth time. With his strong family values, his team-building skills and his equanimity he was an inspiration and an example of manliness to all he touched.
