On Saturday March 30th. 2002; Steve Wilson age 74 years passed away in Thunder Bay Regional Hospital Port Arthur Site. Born in Gull Bay he had resided in Thunder Bay for the past six years. He worked as a bush cutter, logger and well maintenace. Steve was also a trapper and hunter and worked in various labour jobs in Gull Bay. In the last two years he was an Elder of the Poplar Point First Nations and a board member for the Poplar Point Corporation. His main interests were spending time with his family, friends and relatives. His liesure times were spent socializing with friends and going to Grand Portage Casino. He enjoyed family gatherings listening to music, watching television especially when his brother Francis would be giving a sermon. His family will remember him for his sense of humour. Survived by three sons Frank (Brenda), Russell (Yvonne) and Joey (Lisa), daughter Charlene (Andrew). 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, seven sisters Florence, Ida (James) Ina, Hazel, Annette (Morris), Cora and Dina (Frank), two brothers Francis and Andy, numerous nieces nephews and relatives in Gull Bay, Thunder Bay, Nipigon, Caramat, Longlac, and Manitou Island, British Columbia also survive. He was predeceased by his wife Helen, parents Dominic and Mary Jane Wilson sisters Amelia, Angela, Veronica and brothers Daniel and Victor. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday April 3rd. at 10:00 a.m. when family and friends will gather at St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church for services conducted by Rev. Michael Murray (All services complete in the church). Following cremation interment will take place in Gull Bay Cemetery on Thursday April 4th. at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel 21 N. Court Street.
He will sadly missed by his loved ones.
Mrs. Hazell D. Winters age 90 years a resident of Grandview Lodge and formerly of 770 Leslie Avenue, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, March 29th, 2002. Born May 1st, 1911 in Shell River, Manitoba, she had been a resident of the city since 1941. Hazell was a member of Our Lady Of Loretto R.C. Church and the Ladies Auxiliary Port Arthur Branch #5, Royal Canadian Legion. Her most cherished times were spent with her children and grandchildren. Following the tragic death of her only son Bernard, Hazell lovingly raised his seven children as well as her own 2 daughters. Hazell loved to garden and enjoyed doing crafts, she especially excelled at quilting and many of her quilts grace the homes of her family. Hazell and George attended bingo games together and following his passing she continued to enjoy playing. Hazell worked effortlessly with the New Democratic Pary with Easter Seals and the Red Cross Society. Hazell will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Sally Arthur (John) and Blanche Smith, 18 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, James and Rennie Gosslin of Winnipeg, sister Eva Henderson of St. Lazare, Manitoba, nephew Wendell Cathers and his wife Jean and niece Adeline Lovat and her husband Monty. She was predeceased by her husband George, son Bernard, sister Bea Barker, brother Emile Gosslin and son-in-law Don Smith. A celebration of Hazell's life will be held on Thursday, April 4th at 10:30 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 North Court Street with Rev. Mark Chochrek of Our Lady Of Loretto R.C. officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery Visitation for friends will be from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday evening in the Sargent Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations to the Memory Lane Gardens, c/o Grandview Lodge would be greatly appreciated.

Rev. Guerrino (Rino) Ziliotto, c.s., a Scalabrinian priest, age 82, died at St. Charles Residence, Sun Valley, California, March 30, 2002. Fr. Rino was born in Borso, Treviso (Diocese of Padua) Italy on August 31, 1919. He was professed as a Scalabrinian Religious Nov. 6, 1938. Ordained priest on June 25, 1944, his first assignment was at Chicago at St. Anthony Parish, (Kensington), and Holy Guardian Angels Parish 1945-1958. Subsequently, he served at Santa Maria Goretti Parish, Edmonton (1958-1965); St. Angela Merici Parish, Windsor (1966-1970); Holy Spirit Parish, New Westminster, B.C. (1970-1986); He served as associate pastor at St. Peter's, Sarnia (1993-1997) and St. Dominic's, Thunder Bay (1986-1990) (1997-2001). Fr. Rino is predeceased by his parents, Valentino and Angela Ziliotto; and survived by his Sister Ippolita (in Treviso, Italy); and a nephew Rev. Giandomenico Ziliotto, c.s., Superior and Director of the Scalabrinian Centre in London, England. Special prayers and tribute to Fr. Rino will be included in the regular daily Mass at St. Dominic's Parish, 130 Redwood Ave., on Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at 7 P.M. As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the Scalabrinian Missions.
A tree will be planted in memory of Rev. Rino Ziliotto c.s. in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 29, 2003.

Milne
Friends and family of the late Helen Milne sadly announce her death following a short illness on Sunday, March 31st,, 2002 in the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital (Port Arthur General Site). Helen was born on January 26th, 1919 to the late Fred and Ann (Smith) Sherban in Oliver Township. She married Edward Kenny Milne on April 9th, 1955 and he predeceased her on April 24th, 1995. Helen was employed with Can Car during war time and then for many years by the Royal Bank of Canada. She was an avid knitter and was always an animal lover, greatly loving her dog Corky. Helen and Eddie loved to camp and to travel, going to the United Kingdom, Europe and many many places in Canada and the United States. Following Eddie's death, Helen fulfilled a long-time wish and travelled to Hong Kong. Helen is survived by family friends and colleagues in Thunder Bay, Canada and the United States and very special friends Sylvia and Ken Murphy and their family in London, England. Cremation has taken place and a service to celebrate Helen's life will be held on Friday, April 5th at 11:00 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 North Court Street with Rev. Randy Boyd of Trinity United Church officiating.

STEWART, ALEXANDER RICHARD (SANDY)
On Good Friday, March 29, 2002. Beloved husband of Vivien Campbell. Loving father of Ann Kathleen Muldoon, Sandy and Rick. Dear brother of Kathleen Greer and the late Ken, and sister Jean. Sadly missed by his seven grandchildren, Suzanne and Alex Muldoon, Suzanne and Dianne Stewart, Duncan, David and Meaghan Stewart. Also mourned by spouses Noel Muldoon, Carol Stewart and Dawn Stewart. Born in Fort William on January 30, 1915 to Dr. Alexander Dufferin and Eva Stewart. Sandy was an avid athlete and King Scout attending the World Jamboree in England in 1929. He enjoyed all the summers of his youth at Loon Lake. In 1937 Mr. Stewart was an honour graduate in Chemical Engineering of the University of Toronto and did post graduate studies at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The summer of 1939 Sandy joined the M.I.T. Sailing Club where he obtained his skills and passion for sailing, Herreshoff M.I.T. Tech dinghies. Sandy and Vivien were married, by the Right Rev. R.J. Renison at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Toronto on September 9, 1939. Sandy joined C.I.L. (I.C.I.) in 1937 becoming Plant Manager in 1947 for the York Paint Plant. Mr. Stewart transferred to Montreal in 1949 and became Research and Technical Manager, Paints in 1956 and General Sales Manager in 1958. In 1962, Sandy moved from Senneville, Quebec, where he served as a Councillor and was a Founding Member and Commodore of the Senneville Yacht Club, to become Vice President of Arnold Hoffman Co. (I.C.I) in Rhode Island. Sailing out of the Barrington Yacht Club, Sandy enjoyed winning races with his Flying Dutchman. In 1966 Sandy and Vivien returned to Toronto where he was an executive with Dylex Limited's plastics division. He retired in 1978 and enjoyed many years at their beloved cottage Gaelic Glen and winters golfing in Naples Florida. Sandy passed away peacefully surrounded by family members at Glynnwood Retirement Residence. A reception for family and friends will be held in the Park room of the Morley Bedford Funeral Home 159 Eglinton Ave. W. (2 stoplights west of Yonge Street) Saturday, April 6, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A memorial service will then be held in St. Paul's Anglican Church 227 Bloor Street East (west of Jarvis Street) at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Scott Mission.

TASKINEN
Miss Liisa Kyllikki Taskinen, age 77 years, a resident of Onion Lake Road, passed away peacefully in Thunder Bay Regional Hospital - General on Sunday, March 31, 2002, following a brief illness.
Born in Port Arthur, raised and educated in Tarmola, she was a lifetime resident of the area. Liisa served for many years as postmistress of Stepstone Post Office, and secretary-treasurer of the S.S.#3 Gorham School Board. Liisa attended King's Business College, and was employed by S.J. Hill and Sons (International Harvester) for twenty-seven years until her retirement in 1983. Liisa enjoyed her home on the farm, needlework, reading, travelling, and especially her family and close friends.
Liisa is survived by three sisters: Helen (Bill) Ruohonen, Martha (John) Ranta and Helmi (Eric) Ehn; brother Harold (Nancy) Taskinen; and sister-in-law Irene Taskinen - all of Thunder Bay. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and other relatives here, in Finland, Sweden and the United States. Liisa was predeceased by her parents Kalle and Elisabet Taskinen; two brothers: Klaus in 1991, and Theodore in infancy.
According to Liisa's wishes, cremation has taken place, and Private Memorial Service, officiated by Rev. Jamie Bosma of Bethel Lutheran Church, will be held in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street. Interment of cremains will take place at a later date in the family plot in Tarmola Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Liisa's memory to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation, or Bethel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.

Mrs. Patricia Gloria Delvecchio, age 65 years, resident of Thunder Bay, died in St. Joseph's Hospice, on Monday April 1, 2002, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born and raised in Fort William Pat was married to Leonard Delvecchio on July 26, 1958. Her home and family were always very important to her. She enjoyed spending time at her winter home in Florida, playing Bingo, knitting and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Leonard, children Tina and her husband Randy Gotziaman, Jim and his wife Sandra, Karen and her husband Calvin Knorr, grandchildren, Alanna, Krysti and Jena Gotziaman, Michael, Ryan and Devin Delvecchio, Justin and Matthew Knorr, brothers and sisters Joe Balina, Carl Balina, Helen Gvora, Maureen Gourley, Beverly Miller, Geraldine Balina, Ronnie Balina, Joanne Ball, Bernice Iagallo, Penny Sokoloski, Carol Furioso, Gary Balina, Edward Balina, Sandra Bodnarchuk, Glen Balina and David Balina. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Mary Balina and brothers Rudy and Billy Balina. Cremation has taken place and funeral services will be held on Friday April 5, 2002 when friends and family will gather for Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Peter's Church celebrated by Rev. B.A. Campbell. Interment will follow later in Our Lady of Charity Mausoleum. Vigil Services will be held on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel. If friends so desire memorials to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation would be appreciated.

With deep sorrow, the family of Peter Stakiw announces his death on March 23rd, 2002, at Pioneer Ridge with his family at his side. Peter was born in the Ukraine on December 30th, 1911, and immigrated to Canada at the age of 16 years, joining his older brother, Walter, in Saskatchewan. He married Helen Baraniuk, his wife of 67 years in 1935. In 1942, Peter, Helen and their son, Joseph, moved to Port Arthur where their daughter, Cecelia, was born, and where they have resided since. Peter and Helen were market gardeners and later operated the Country Flower Shop for many years. He was extremely proud of his family and enjoyed gardening and bee-keeping. Peter is survived by his wife Helen, son Joseph Stakiw (Stella), daughter Cecelia Van Natto (Bob), grandchildren Stephen Stakiw (Mary Ann Anderson), Andrew Stakiw, David Stakiw (Sherry), Sharlene Baryluk (Marty), Dan Van Natto (Kerry Robinson), great-granddaughters Sarah Baryluk and Aleena Stakiw, brother Tony in the Ukraine, as well as nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings in the Ukraine, brother Walter in Saskatoon, and sister Mary in Poland. According to Peter's wishes cremation has taken place and a memorial service for family and friends will be held at Pioneer Ridge Auditorium, 750 Tungsten Street, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 6th, 2002, with Very Reverend Bohdan Bilinsky officiating. Internment will take place at a later date. If friends so desire, donations can be made to the Dew Drop Inn, Shelter House, or charity of choice.

Mrs. Aurelienne Marie Arlene Haigh, nee Chartier, age 81 years, a resident of 122 South Cumberland Street, passed away in the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital, Port Arthur Site, on Monday, April 1, 2002. Born November 7th, 1920 in St. Lazare, Manitoba, she was the daughter of the late Lionel and Rosine Chartier. She had been a resident of the city since 1943. Arlene was a member of St. Andrew's R. C. Church and a former member of Our Lady Of Loretto R.C. Church. She was a 25 year member of Our Lady Of Loretto Catholic Womens' League and a member of their Altar Society. Arlene worked for Can Car during war time and served with the Royal Canadian Air Force stationed in Manitoba. She enjoyed crochetting and knitting and many of her works are displayed in the homes of her family and friends.
Travelling to Grand Portage with her daughter and spending time at the Thunder Bay Charity Casino brought Arlene much enjoyment. Her home, family and grandchildren always took top priority in her life. Arlene will be lovingly remembered by her son Lionel (Geri) daughters Janet Adey and Theresa Wiggins (Mark), grandchildren Tracey and Shawn Haigh and Richard and Julie Moorey, 3 brothers, 5 sisters, sister-in-law Connie Hartley, she is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Predeceased by her husband Edwin Leslie (Les) Haigh, her parents Lionel and Rosine Chartier, son-in-law Greg Adey and by brothers and sisters. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 5th when family and friends will gather at Our Lady Of Loretto R.C. Church for services at 10:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Mark Chochrek. Cremation will follow with a private family inurnment service to take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy the family respectfully requests memorials to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation or to the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital. Sigrid Vera Kaar (nee Kuldma)
Sigrid Vera Kaar died peacefully in hospital following a short illness in Thunder Bay, Ontario on Monday, April 1, 2002. She was born June 15, 1913 in Tartu, Estonia. On October 29, 1949 she married Tiido Kaar in Leeds, England. They emigrated to Canada (Port Arthur) in March 1951. She worked for many years at the Port Arthur General Hospital Dietary Department retiring in 1975. Sigrid was predeceased by her parents Johann and Natalie Gulbis and her brother Vello Kuldma. Her husband Tiido predeceased her on November 10, 1995. Contact with her sister Erika was lost during WW II.
Funeral service for the late Sigrid Kaar will be held on Monday, April 8, 2002 at 11:30AM in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma with Bishop U. Petersoo officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery immediately following the service. Visitation for friends will be on Sunday afternoon from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM in the EVEREST CHAPEL.
In memoriam donations to the Northwestern Ontario Regional Cancer Centre would be appreciated.

Mr. Albert Erland Ruth, age 75 years passed away peacefully in hospital with family at his side on Saturday, March 23, 2002. Born in Kenora, Ontario, Albert was raised and educated in Fort Frances. A veteran of World War II, he was employed in the early years by Ontario Minnesota Pulp & Paper mill in the log drive. He later worked as a truck driver at Caland Ore in Atikokan, moving to Thunder Bay upon retirement. Albert enjoyed playing pool and cribbage at the Herb Carrol Centre in his later years. He also served as a volunteer for several years at the Herb Carrol Centre. His most treasured times were spent at the family cabin on Burchell Lake. Predeceased by his wife Mamie in May of 2001, by his parents Robert and Beda Maria Ruth, brother Alvin Rudy and sister Ethel. Albert is survived by step-children Audrey (Jim) Parres, Thunder Bay, Kenneth (Candace) Crawford, Portage la Prairie, Mb., 7 grandchildren 10 great-grandchildren, a sister Hjordis Vickstrom, Lulea, Sweden, son Allan McDowell & daughter Sandra Neilson of Regina, Sk., sister-in-laws Rusty Ruth, Zelma Phillips and Margaret Phillips as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In keeping with Albert's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. Friends so wishing may make donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario or the charity of your choice.

KANGAS
Mrs. Lyyli Marja Kangas, resident of Thunder Bay, passed away in her 90th year at Bethammi Nursing Home, on Wednesday, April 3, 2002. Born in 1912 in Illo, Finland to Aino and Vilho Alajoke, Lyyli was the oldest of twelve children. Lyyli and her husband Kalle lived in Northern Quebec for several years before returning to Finland in 1938. The Kangas family arrived in Thunder Bay in 1947, and immediately became the owners of a mini-grocery store on the present site of Kangas Sauna on Oliver Road. Two decades later at the age of 55, Lyyli opened the first phase of the Kangas Sauna complex, expanded and operated it successfully for over thirty years until ill health intervened.
Lyyli is survived by her three children: Kathy, Kurt, Kalevi (Jermaine); four grandsons: Lauri (Diana), Zachary, Kurt and Kaj (Rie); three sisters: Anna Gadd of Thunder Bay, Liisa Warelius, Alli Rintala and brother Paavo of Finland. Lyyli was predeceased by her husband Kalle in 1969, son Kari in 1972, five brothers: Uuno, Veikko, Toivo and Oivo of Finland, Onni and Esko of Thunder Bay.

VIRTANEN
Mr. Veikko Gabriel Virtanen, age 80 years, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away in St. Joseph's Hospital on Monday, March 25, 2002 following a brief illness.
Born in Luopio, Finland, he came to Canada and Port Arthur in 1952. Veikko was a carpenter by trade, and was employed by Barnett-McQueen for twenty-seven years, retiring in 1986. Veikko is survived by his wife Impi; one son Olavi; two sisters and other relatives in Finland. he was predeceased by his parents; four sisters and three brothers.
Cremation has taken place and a Private Graveside Service was held on Thursday, April 4th at Riverside Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Jari Lahtinen of Hilldale Lutheran Church. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Veikko's memory to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation. Arrangements entrusted to Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street.

Mrs. Elsie Walters age 63 years, resident of Thunder Bay, died in TBRH McKellar Site on Thursday April 4, 2002. Born and raised in Fort Frances she moved to Fort William in her twenties and has resided here since. Elsie had worked as a health care aide at Grandview Lodge for over twenty years before ill health forced her to retire. She took great-pride in caring for her home and garden and she especially loved caring for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Elsie enjoyed folk-art painting, gab sessions on the phone and she always loved a joke. She is survived by her children Sheryl and her husband Jerry Ward, Angela Krupper both of Thunder Bay, four grandchildren Tesh, Jessica, Tia and Tonya, three great-grandchildren Devon, Tristian and Shayla. Nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. She was predeceased by her parents Jul and Ida Moen and brother William Moen. Cremation has taken place and funeral services will be held on Monday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in the Blake Funeral Chapel with Rev. Richard Kowalchuk of St. Elizabeteh's Church officiating. Interment will follow in St. Andrew's Cemetery. If friends desire memorials to the Kidney Foundation or the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

Mr. Ron Alto, aged 56 years, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2002 at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital McKellar Site after a brief illness. Born on April 18, 1946 in Sioux Lookout, son of Roy Alto and the late Dora Alto. He received his education in Fort William at Selkirk High School. Ron was employed with Patterson Shipping recently serving on the Cartier DOC and prior to that with Great Lakes Paper Company. He was a member of the Seafarers Union for 27 years. Mr. Emil Konopski, age 80 years of Thunder Bay passed away on Monday, May 27, 2002 at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital McKellar Site after a lengthy illness. Emil was born, raised and educated in Fort William. He joined the army and served overseas with the Lanmark and Renfrew Scottish Regiment for three years. When he returned he worked at Great Lakes Paper Co. for over 40 years as a millwright. Emil was known for his "Green Thumb" and enjoyed his gardening and greenhouse.
Emil is survived by his wife of 55 years Anne, daughters Pat (Wayne) Osipenko and Mary Jane (Greg) Hogan, grandchildren Mandy Osipenko (Shane), Dallas (Danielle) and Josh Hogan, great-granddaughter Madeleene Boucher- Hogan and brother Adam. Many nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Emil was predeceased by his parents, sister Betty and brothers Ken and Carl.
Funeral service for Mr. Emil Konopski will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday May 31, 2002 at the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James celebrates Fr. Bohdan Bilinsky officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, May 30 from 6-9 p.m. with panachyda being offered at 7 p.m. in the chapel. Cremation and interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens at a later date. Donations to the Salvation Army or the Care Beyond Compare Campaign would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Mr. Frederick Freeman Poulter, aged 87 years, of Thunder Bay passed away after a short illness at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital McKellar Site on Tuesday, May 28, 2002. Born in Fort William, Ontario on November 14, 1914, Fred served overseas with the 18th Field Battery from 1941 until 1946. Upon returning to Canada he worked for Canada Customs until retirement. He was active in The Business Men's Health Club and the YMCA. In his later years, he was an enthusiastic tennis player receiving an honorary lifetime membership in the Thunder Bay Community Tennis Centre. He spent many summers at Loon Lake surrounded by family. Fred was predeceased by his wife Francis in 1973. Fred will be sadly missed by his children, Fred (Susan), Larry, Linda Mills (Alan), Valerie Zeleny (Dan) and grandchildren, Erin Mantis, Scott, Tyler and Robert Poulter, Lindsey and Jesse Poulter, Theresa Dufault, Victoria Mills, Daniel and Cady Zeleny. Brian Kenneth Proud 40 years passed away suddenly in Calgary Alta. of a heart attack while attending school on May 28th, 2002. Brian was born in Hanover, Ontario on June 13th 1961. He attended Pine Street School and Hammarskjold High School in Thunder Bay. He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years Vicky, daughters Athena and Aurora of Mirror, Alberta. His parents Marlene and Elgin Proud, sister Cheryl (Nephews Andrew and Connor. Brothers Brad, Bruce (Kim) and Brent (Diana) and nephew Jesse. Grandmother Impi Karila all of Thunder Bay. His mother-in-law, father-in-law and brother-in-law of South Western Ontario. Also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in Thunder Bay and South Western Ontario. Predeceased by Grandfather Lauri Karila, grandmother Minnie Etsell and Grandfather Beverly Proud. Aunts Kathryn Proud and Delza Hunt and Great Grandparents.

Mr. Michael Lynch age 54 years of Thunder Bay, passed away suddenly at home on Thursday evening, May 30, 2002. Born in Alliston, Ontario, Michael has lived here in Thunder Bay for the past 20 years. He was employed in the Public Relations Department. at Abitibi, spent some time in Joe Commuzzi's office as a Special Assistant, and latterly as a staff writer for Northern Ontario Business. He enjoyed furniture refinishing, and gardening. Michael was very active in the Liberal Party, and had a passion for Politics. He is survived by his wife Laura, daughter Erin of Haliburton, a son Daniel of Winnipeg, 3 grandsons, Seamus, Brenton, and Keith Brothers and sisters, Gene, Joe, John, Sheila, and Mary. Numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive. Predeceased by his parents Terrance and Eileen Lynch, brother Dave Lynch. As per Michael's wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service. An open house to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday afternoon, June 04, 2002 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at 24 Machar Avenue.

Mr. Harold Francis Adams, age 71 years of Thunder Bay, passed away after a brief illness at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital, Port Arthur Site on Thursday, May 30th, 2002. Born in Gold River, Nova Scotia on August 12, 1930, he grew up in Nova Scotia until starting an apprenticeship and settling in Thunder Bay in 1969. Harold was a member of Sheet Metal Workers' Local 397 for 25 years, retiring in 1992. His retirement years were spent enjoying his family and having coffee with friends. Harold was predeceased by his wife Viola in 1995 and will be sadly missed by daughter Peggie Tergie (Chris), Debra Medwid (Dwayne), sons Gary and Harold Jr. (Ruby). Also missing him are his special girls Jasmin Clair, Kendra Tergie and special friend Rosemary McLean. A special thanks to the girls at the Chemo Unit and the nurses of the 3rd floor IMCU, we appreciate all your kindness. Mr. Edwin John Walberg, age 90 years passed away peacefully on Thursday July 25, 2002 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Edwin was born and raised in Slate River, where at the young age of 6 he began working on the family farm. As a young man he painted houses along with his brother- in- law John Erickson. After working for 37 years at Great Lakes Paper Edwin retired in 1976 as Forman Painter. He sang in the Slate River Baptist Church Choir for over 30 years and more recently he became a member of the Fort William Baptist Church. Edwin's main interest was his home and family. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and travelling with his grandchildren. Edwin was an excellent craftsman and woodworking was his area of expertise. His talent in cabinetry and house building will always be cherished by family who were fortunate to be the recipient of his handy work. Edwin is survived by his wife Rose of 64 years, daughters Sharon (Bill) Smith and Carol (Jim) Kennelly, Granddaughters Sherri (Allan) Pharand, Kari (Brian) Piwonski, Traci Kennelly (Allan Pittman) and Shelly (Joe) Gaudreau. Great grandson Cory and great-granddaughters Sierra, Emili-Rose and Jordan. Step-brother Henry Lundquist, special neighbours Jerry and Lillian Della Mattia, sister-in-law Edith Walberg, numerous nieces nephews and cousins also survive. He was predeceased by his father Alfred, mother Helen, step-mother Hulda, sister Irma Erickson, brothers Felix, Renus, George, Gordon, and Roland, step-brother Paul Lundquist. Beloved wife of Iain Hastie. Dear mother of Dave, Robyn and Karen, all at home. Loved daughter of Angus MacKinnon and his wife Bev of Thunder Bay. Mr. Leonard B. Meadows, age 74 years, a resident of Thunder Bay passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Thursday, July 25, 2002. Born in Port Arthur he was a lifetime resident of Thunder Bay. He was employed by Bell Canada from 1957 until his retirement in 1991, and was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He will be lovingly rememberd by his sons; Terry (Margaret) Meadows of Thunder Bay, Gerry Meadows of Terrace Bay, and Dean (Elaine Mercer) Meadows of Thunder Bay, and grandchildren; Evan and Kristen Meadows. Leonard was predeceased by his wife Carol Meadows (nee Sprickerhoff) in 1976, parents Ben and Myra Meadows and brother William Meadows. Cremation has taken place and funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at 4:00 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, officiated by the Ven. Archdeacon Mark S. Mr. Roy Stewardson, life-long resident of Thunder Bay began his next life with dignity on Friday afternoon less than 24 hours after entering St. Joseph's Care Group (Hospice Center). Roy is survived by his wife M. Irene Stewardson with whom he shared a full life for 59 years. Roy is also survived by his sister Edna Mitchel aged 99 of Dawson Court, nieces Sandra Caddo and June Warren, nephews Steward, Gordon and Paul Roberts, John Donald and David Stewardson; and numerous great-nieces and nephews and a family of friends with whom Roy and Irene built their life in Thunder Bay. Roy served in the Canadian Army and Air Force during W.W. 2. After working for over 20 years with Canadian National Railways, Roy became the Traffic Manager at Great Lakes Pulp and Paper until his retirement. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Masonic temple. Roy attended St. John The Evangelist Anglican Church. His two great-passions in life were his wife Irene and his summer camp on One Island Lake. Funeral service for Mr. V. Roy Stewardson will be held on Tuesday, July 30th, 2002 at 2:00pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens (Oliver Road). Rev. Paul F. Mrs. Vieno Hirvonen, age 78 years passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2002 at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital-Port Arthur Site. Vieno was born in Sudbury, moving to Thunder Bay with her family as a child. She attended Hillcrest High School and the Ontario Business College. She was an accomplished athlete having won the Junior Track and Field Championship in high jumping and hurdling at the O.A.C. Camp Lake Couchichike. Vieno worked for Eatons and the City of Port Arthur prior to retirement 1961. Volunteering for Meals On Wheels and Desert of the Month gave her great-pleasure. She was an avid gardener and bicyclist. Vieno is survived by her husband Raimo, sons Raymond and David, nephew Darcy and cousin Alver and Bill of Maine, South Paris, U.S.A. She was predeceased by her parents Charles and Mari and her brothers Reino and Leo. Funeral Services for the late Mrs. Vieno Hirvonen will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at Trinity United Church with Rev. Randy Boyd officiating.
