Mildred Elsie, passed away peacefully at home in White Rock, B.C. in her 96th year, April 8, 2003. Born in Winnipeg, moved to Fort William in 1927, married Edmund MacKinnon in 1929, who predeceased her in 1993. Also predeceased by her brother James in 1995, daughter Mary in 1930; sons Donald in 1996, Edmund in 1998; daughter-in-law Cathie in 1975. Fondly remembered by her surviving family, John in White Rock, B.C., Robert (Lorraine) in Red Rock, ON; Ernest in Kitchener; daughter Elizabeth (Tom Charlton) in Ottawa; daughter-in-law Audrey in Chilliwack, B.C; 11 grandchildren (Mary in Thunder Bay); 15 great-grandchildren (Liam in Thunder Bay); nieces and nephews. While in Thunder Bay Mil worked for several years as a Financial Secretary for Lawyer Bernard Black. She was active in the community - in the CWL as secretary for presidents Badanni, Carrol, Hinsperger and Seppola - in the Hospital Auxilaries, especially Westmount where she was a volunteer care-giver. Mil and Ed moved to White Rock in 1975 where she was a founding member of the Judy La Marsh Club as well as being active in the CWL, Council of Canadians, Liberal Party and Osteoporosis Society. Always a happy person, she loved flowers, birds, jokes, her family. She will be missed. Funeral has taken place and interment is in the Garden of Gethsemani Cemetery, Surrey, B.C.

Varga (nee Perry), Barbara Bernice

Mrs. Barbara Bernice Varga (nee Perry), age 58 years, resident of R.R.#15 Onion Lake Road, passed away unexpectedly following a courageous battle with a heart condition, in Thunder Bay Regional Hospital - McKellar on Sunday, April 13, 2003 with her loving husband Oscar by her side. Born in St. Thomas, Ontario, she had been employed by Zegil's Floor Mart in sales, as a bookkeeper for Trueline Value and later by Walmart in the Customer Service Department. She loved working with the public and always had a smile for everyone she met. Barb had a vibrant personality and enjoyed her life with Oscar to the fullest. She enjoyed her hobbies especially making wine and crafts. Barb spent many wonderful times with her husband Oscar camping, fishing and hunting. Everything they did, Barb and Oscar seemed to do together, including Street-Rodding and traveling back to the 50's in their 1931 Essex. She was a very devoted wife, and mother throughout her life. Barb had two very special cats, 'Mickey and Minnie' which were an important part of her life. Barbara's main pleasures in life were her home and especially her family and friends. Barbara is survived by her husband Oscar; two daughters: Joyce Stafford, Christina (Dean) Stafford, both of Aylmer, ON; two brothers: Carl (Louise) Perry of Aylmer, ON, Larry (Sandy) Perry of London, ON; two sisters: Ruth (Aurele) Gallant of Aylmer, ON and Linda (James) Grace of London, ON. She was predeceased by her parents Cora and Elmore Perry. According to Barbara's wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 17th at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, officiated by Rev. Lloyd Ivany. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening (TONIGHT) from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in Barbara's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Alice Irene (nee Clarke), passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, May 24, 2003, at the Guelph General Hospital. Loving and devoted wife of Dr. Otto Salonen. She will be sadly missed by her children, Jane and David Ruttan of Markham, David and Kim Salonen of Mississauga, Mark and Carolyn Salonen of New Hamburg and Lisa Salonen MacKay and Dan MacKay of Markham. Loving grandmother of Amanda Ruttan, Dana and Erin Salonen, Eric and Natasha Salonen, and Megan and Matthew MacKay. Dear sister of Lois (Len) Walker and Donna (Don) Craig. Fondly remembered by her aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and many close friends. Irene is predeceased by her parents Charles Albert and Ella Mae Clarke. Irene and Otto lived in Thunder Bay for over forty years and recently resided in Guelph for the past two years. Irene devoted many years of service to the Thunder Bay medical community, both as a nurse and an active member of the Port Arthur General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. The funeral service will be held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 2368 Church Street, North Gower, Ontario, on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2003 at 11:00 a.m., with Archdeacon Mark Conliffe officiating. Marc Marcino passed away peacefully at his residence in Birchwood Terrace Nursing Home on Friday May 23, 2003. He was born in Crocus, Manitoba on January 21, 1924. He was predeceased by his wife Phyl, parents Mike and Catherine Marcino, brothers Frank, John and Steve. Marc is survived by his brother Peter and wife Shirley of Kenora, his two sons Murray (Bernice) of Cornwall, Ontario and Wayne (Debbie) of Kenora; four grandchildren Mark, Debbie and Randy of British Columbia and Allin of Dryden; two sisters-in-law Dora of Thunder Bay and Shirley of Vancouver B.C. and numerous nieces and nephews. Marc served in the military during the Second World War. He also served as a Councillor for the Town of Kenora. Marc was a Life Member of the Kenora Lions Club and also was a Past District Governor of the Lions Clubs. He also was one of the founding directors of the Canadian Lions Foundation. He also served as President of the Kenora District Chamber of Commerce and the Northwestern Associated Chambers of Commerce. Marc was an active volunteer for a variety of events in Kenora over many years. A Memorial service was held at the Kenora Community Funeral Home on Wednesday May 28, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday June 2, 2003 at St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery, Oliver Road, Thunder Bay.

Wyrozub, Mitchell

Mr. Mitchell (Smokey) Wyrozub passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 27, 2003. Born May 1, 1919 in Fort William, Mitchell was a life long resident of this area, receiving his education in local schools and working on his father's farm in Blake Township until 1939. During World War II Mitchell enlisted in the L.S.R. Regiment. In 1948 he married Alma Hoben. After the war, Mitchell drove trucks for 39 years, retiring in 1981 at the age of 62. Mitchell loved spending time with his family and working in his garden. The family was particularly proud of an incident that took place March 1963. While driving home from the city he noticed a large dog mauling a 7 year old boy. He chased the dog off, then rushed the boy 11 1/2 miles to the hospital where he recovered. Mitchell is survived by his wife Alma, son David (Marilyn), grandchildren Jodi (Randy) Zyla and Jason, great-grandchildren Kaylie, Kimberly, and Keana, brothers Ben (Dorothy) and Albert (Olive), sisters Lillie and Rita, as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mitchell was predeceased by his parents Karl and Mary, brothers Edward and Gordon, and sister Anne Reid. Funeral Services for Mitchell will be held Friday, May 30, 2003 in the Jenkens Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Carl Triskle officiating. Interment following in Stanley Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 29th, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00p.m. at Jenkens Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations to the Lung Association would be greatly appreciated.

Born in Onigaming First Nations in 1957 to parents Marie and Paul Kelly. She grew up in Onigaming and attended school in Fort Frances, Ontario. She worked at Indian Affairs, Native Womens Association and The Thunder Bay Aboriginal Headstart Nursery School until her illness. She was very gifted in making wreaths and dream catchers. Agnes had a smile of gold. She enjoyed living life and her laughter filled the rooms with happiness. You can always count on her, and her gentle voice was soothing to everyone she talked to. Agnes is survived by her loving husband Don, children Stanley, Sophie and Samantha; mother Marie, sisters Lorna, Gloria (Mattie) and Lorraine; brothers Billy (Liza), Richard (Bonita) and Buffalo (Karen); numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Agnes is predeceased by her son Elliot, a sister, a brother and her Dad Paul. You are in our thoughts and prayers. You always understood and listened. You showed unconditional love, trust and cared for us. We thank you Mom. We love you with all our hearts. We want to let you know we're so grateful to have someone so special like you in our lives and will cherish you forever. As our lives go on our memories of you will be in our hearts forever. Jane Elsann (nee Chase), passed away peacefully with her mother and sisters by her side on Thursday, May 22, 2003 at LaVerendrye Hospital Fort Frances, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jane was born March 24, 1940 in Fort Frances and lived most of her life in Northwestern Ontario. She had a varied and interesting working life that exemplified her ability to adapt to all that she encountered. Jane worked for Bell Canada, Port Arthur Motors, Fairweathers and the Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital Her most recent career was as a hairstylist. Growing up in a musical family in Fort Frances, Jane became an accomplished violinist. In her teens she won the prestigious gold medal from the Royal Conservatory of Music, two years in a row. Jane was a member of Beta Sigma Fi and enjoyed staying active. In the past year, she was embraced by pastor Sandy McEvoy and The Joy of Life Fellowship who have hope and the will to 'fight the good fight'. Jane was an avid reader and enjoyed the outdoors, but treasured anytime, spent with her mother, children, grandchildren and sisters. She was very proud of her children but developed a special bond with her daughter, and very best friend, Wendy. She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her daughter Wendy (Bob), son Guy (Maria), grandchildren Sarah and Matthew, son Todd (Clara), grandchild Chloe, mother Geraldine Chase, sisters Gerrine Mott, Marlene (Harold) Armstrong, Joanne (Doug) McCaig, numerous nieces and nephews and Aunt Elsann (Rod) MacLeod. Jane was predeceased by her father Norman Chase. A celebration of Jane's life took place on Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at the Joy of Life Fellowship in Fort Frances. Many thanks to the doctors, nurses and caregivers, at The Thunder Bay Regional Hospital, Port Arthur Site and at the LaVerendrye Hospital in Fort Frances. Specials thanks to Grandma Chase, Joanne, Doug, Patti-Jo and many close friends for their support. Assunta Louise Jackow died peacefully, after a long and active life, at her place of residence the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, Winnipeg, Manitoba on March 19th, 2003. This is St. Joseph's Day Patron Saint of a happy death. Sue, the name we all knew and loved her by was born to Emilio & Theresa Marino on March 26th, 1923 in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Sue was preceded in death by her husband Gene Jackow, parents Emilio & Theresa Marino, her sister Filomena DeLevachio (Miami, FL), and Mary Marino (Hallendale, FL), her brothers James (Cleveland, OH), Frank (Santa Barbara, CA), Angelo (Canoga Park, CA), Emilio Jr. (Windsor, ON), and Mario (Miama, FL). Her sister Gloria and brother Val Marino survive her. A memorial service is planned for late July or early August in Thunder Bay with a burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery. A notice of the exact date will be published at that time.

Halstead, David

David John George Halstead, age 35 years, of 323 Leslie Avenue, passed away unexpectedly in Thunder Bay Regional Hospital - General on Friday, May 30th, 2003. David was born in Port Arthur on February 7th, 1968, the eldest son of Carson and Isabel Halstead. He enjoyed fishing with his father and they also shared an affinity for all living creatures. In his younger years, Dave was an excellent downhill skier, swimmer and enjoyed cross-country skiing. He spent a lot of time reading and also enjoyed gardening and yard work. David had a unique sense of humour, but only if you knew him well did you have the opportunity to share it. David is survived by and will be forever missed by his parents Carson and Isabel Halstead; younger brother Ryan Halstead (Toronto) presently here; his special 'gram' Minnie Halstead; uncles: Lance (Patti) Halstead, Rodney (Allison) Halstead, Bill Pringle (Nancy); aunts: Joanne Pringle, Catriona Christiansen Pringle, Heather Cumming, Debbie Hoyle and special great-aunt, Isobel Comeau. Also surviving are numerous cousins: Kim, Doug, Doreen and Steven Pringle, Billy Pringle, Gary and Michelle Halstead, Allison Christiansen-Pringle, Tiffany and Christopher Halstead, Kelly and Robert Cumming and numerous other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Andrew, in March of 1999; uncle Doug Pringle; two grandfathers: George Halstead and Douglas Pringle; grandmother Agnes Pringle; aunt Cheryl Pringle and cousin Kyle Cumming. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, June 4th at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Rev. Lloyd Ivany. Interment will take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made in David's memory to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada, Thunder Bay Chapter as David suffered with this disease since he was a teenager.

Lillian (June) Gilbert age 80 years, resident of Little Lepreau, New Brunswick (formally resided on Hwy 61, Thunder Bay) passed away on May 31, 2003. She is survived by her daughter Florence (Dale) Gushulak, sister Terry Pengelly, brothers Pat (Janet) Gilbert, Jack (Betty) Gilbert, grandchildren Terry Dawn (Wim) Tenhave, Gilbert Hollingsworth, Edward Gushulak. Great grandchildren Ashley, Steven and William Tenhave. Heather and Courtney Gushulak. She enjoyed the outdoors particularly fishing, guiding, hunting and trapping. In 1962 she was awarded the Trappers Trophy for all of Ontario. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Cremation has taken place.

Kailik, Ian

Mr. Ian Kailik, age 54 years passed away after a short illness on Thursday, July 24, 2003 at St. Joseph's Hospice with his family and friends at his side. He was a long time employee of C.P. Rail and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Ian enjoyed curling, playing darts, fishing and spending time with family and friends at camp on Lac des Milles Lac. Ian was forever involved with home renovations and always had a new project on the go. He will always be remembered for his kindness, his gentleness, his outgoing personality and the twinkle in his eye. Ian will be greatly missed by his loving wife Sheila, step-daughter Susan Radul (Kenn), step-son Stephen Szarkowicz (Marlina), parents Frank and Sheila Kailik, brothers Frank (Cathy), and Glenn (Sharon), numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, special friends Dan and Arlene, Rodger and Roxanne and Geoff and Val.. According to Ian's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday, July 28, 2003 at 1:30 P.M. at the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 W. Gore Street at James with Rev. Lidvald Haugen-Strand officiating. If friends so desire memorial donations made to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation or to the St. Joseph's Hospice Unit would be appreciated.

Walther, Thorsten

Thorsten Walther, age 27, passed away tragically on July 19, 2003. Thorsten and I had been attending a wedding for close friends. The next day was to be spent together celebrating our first wedding anniversary in Banff. Thorsten and I were very much in love and were looking forward to many more years of happiness together. We had been planning to start a family of our own in the very near future. Thorsten would always say that our children would be marbled. Thorsten was a very proud man and always supported me fully. Although his work would entail a lot of travel Thorsten would be sure to call and email me every day to tell me how much he loved me. He was very much a romantic. Thorsteen was a kind, gentle man who enjoyed his work, had a thirst for knowledge, and a great-friend to all he knew. Thorsten spent many hours reading book after book. He loved music, watching Sunday races with his twin brother Mirco and I, and had plans to start a small garden behind our home. I will miss you sadly, and love you always. You are the love of my life, your wife forever Jessica. Also missing you dearly are Shirley & Charlie Collins, Robert, Gloria, Gelsomina, Ivy and all other family and friends. You are my angel.

George Philip Kent MacNeill, aged 59 years, passed away Monday, July 21st, 2003 at the Toronto General Hospital. Loving husband of Judy (Gingras) predeceased by son Jeff (1996) and daughter Mary (still born 1970). Father of Derek (Tracy) of Toronto, Kent (Chantal) of Val Caron, and Deb of Toronto. Kent's wish for cremation has been honoured. A memorial mass will be said at St.Bartholomew's Church in Levack on Tuesday, July 29th at 11:00 a.m. A celebration of his life (memorial mass) will be held in Manitouwadge at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Tuesday, August 5th, at 11:00 a.m. At the request of the family, donations to the Lung Association or Lung Transplant Program, Toronto General Hospital. With great-sadness, we announce the passing of Sharon Anne Cameron, our most precious daughter, sister, auntie and friend. At the age of 37, she has gone peacefully to heaven on July 23, 2003. Sharon was born May 13, 1966 at PAGH. Her first ten years were spent growing up in Red Rock, Ontario enjoying the many benefits a small town had to offer. Along with her family, she then moved to Thunder Bay, where she proudly graduated from FWCI in 1987. For 13 years Sharon loved her job and cherished the many friends she made while working at Thunder Bay District Housing. For the past four years Sharon enjoyed the challenge of living on her own. Sharon loved spending time with her family and many friends. Listening to music, doing word finds, dancing, going to movies, dining at Sweet Chalet and numerous social outings were her inspiration. She is survived by her parents Peter and Rosalea (Miller) Cameron, sisters Heather Rubenick, Joanne (Luigi) Migliazzi; brother Peter Jr. (Cheryl) Cameron, nieces and nephews Alyssa and Paige Rubenick, James, Kyle and Justin Migliazzi and special person Laurel (Bob) Hoeber/ Crilly and children Vincent and Jessica, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and special friends. Sharon was predeceased by her grandparents, several family relatives and special pet Bear. Sharon touched the hearts of all who knew her and she will be lovingly remembered for her courage, strength, humour and her great-love for life. A celebration of Sharon's life will take place Friday, August 1, 2003 at St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church (Redwood Ave.) at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Father Dan Lapolla. Mrs. Virginia Baker age 71 of Thunder Bay passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospice on Friday July 25, 2003. Prior to retiring in 1997 Virginia worked at Bourkes Drug Store and Safeway for many years. Her main interests were her family and grandsons. Virginia is survived by her husband Don, daughter Kathy (Rick) and son Rich. Brothers: Jim (Myrtle), Bert (Helen), Ron (Audrey), Walter (Eila) and sister Mavis (Jim). She was predeceased by her parents Emil and Blanche Birch, brother, Bud and son Jim. PAM FREEMAN Born Pamela Rose Ferguson December 26, 1958 The family of Pam Freeman (of Alder Ave) sadly announces her premature passing at McKellar Hospital on Sunday, July 27th with her husband by her side. Pam joined her mother Gerry Zozula and sister Jill Ferguson Smart, her Uncle Steve Zozula and her Nanny; Elsie West in heaven. Her husband, daughters, family and friends were at her bedside with her for many weeks as she made her journey with her ticket in hand to meet her God. Pam will be deeply missed, but remembered with love and laughter by her loving husband Bill, her beautiful daughters Crystal (Ed Jesica and J.D), and Sara (Dan and Dylan). Her adorable grandchildren will always cherish memories of their Grandma Sweetheart. Pam's memory will live on in the hearts of her extended family. Survived by her special dad, Mike Zozula and his family, father David Ferguson (Eva-Rae) 3 brothers: Terry Ferguson (Gloria) and niece Deidra; Randy Ferguson (Andrea) and niece Brittany (here from Edmonton) Bill Ferguson (Cathy) and nephews, Jason and Mike, sister Joy (Mark Moulson) and their children, Joel, Nathanael, Joshua, Jessica, Jonathon and great-niece Brianne. Also surviving are her father-in-law Jim Freeman, mother-in-law Edna Hurst (Ron), her sister-in-law Tracy DelBen (Rick) and children Noel and Ryan. Survived by many other aunts, uncles and cousins. She will be missed by many friends, but especially her very special friends Linda, Judy and Lori. Through her work at Quality Market and Alert Answering Service, Pam enjoyed the many customers she served and friendships that she nurtured with her co-workers. Pam enjoyed the bond she had with her exotic birds and this past spring had been so excited to add a new kitten Mikayla to her home. Sasha joined Mikayla as a playmate shortly afterwards. Tending her rose garden and enjoying the warm sun on her face were moments she savored in life. Gladys was born on June 20, 1930 in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, the daughter of Elmer and Stana Olson. In 1941, she moved with her family to Port Arthur and attended Prospect School, Collegiate High School and in 1949 attended Briercrest Bible School graduating in 1952. She took the nursing course at Port Arthur General Hospital and graduated. Gladys married Clarence Saunders in 1955. She attended Secord Baptist Church and also Beresford Baptist Church. Her family was most important to Gladys. She loved her Lord, her music and her piano. In 1965 she moved to Nipigon with her husband and they continued in the grocery business known as Saunders Foodland for 40 years, attending Nipigon Baptist Church faithfully. She also continued her nursing at the Nipigon District Memorial Hospital. Her family was her main interest and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who added much joy to her life. She was a member of the Westfort Baptist Church. Marion spent many wonderful times at her daughter's camp. She was proud to travel to Winnipeg to see her youngest daughter's graduation. Marion will be remembered for her determination and courage throughout life's challenges. Mr. Ronald Fedori, age 86, resident of Arthur St. E, passed away in TBRH McKellar Site, on Wednesday July 23rd, 2003. Born on January 10th, 1917, in Fort William, Ron lived his entire life here. He attended Ogden St. School and Fort William Vocational School. In his early years, he worked in the fruit wholesale business as a truck driver for many years. He passed his exams and worked as a Male Practical Nurse at the Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital for 19 ' years. On May 15th, 1948, he married the former Catherine (Kay) Hrycyk and they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this year. He was a charter member of the St. George's Society, Church of the Holy Cross, and an active member of the Golden Agers, Church of the Holy Cross. He was very fond of sports, and participated in track and field, softball, bowling and darts. He was an ardent golfer. He was awarded the Pinnacle Hole in One award on October 6th, 1984. He was a Ten Year member of the Take it Easy Curling League. Ron is survived by his wife Kay, daughter Linda (Tim) Ottawa, and granddaughter Cathryn (Cat), son Larry (Winnipeg), brothers Edward (Stella), and Zeon, sister Frances Brescacin (Mars) all here, brothers-in-law Mike Retzik (Jo) St. Catherine's, and Nick Hrycyk (Hamilton). Nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Elizabeth Fedori, sister Helen Lysak, nephew Richard Lysak, sisters-in-law Anne Fedori and Anne Hrycyk. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 2nd, 2003 when family and friends will gather for Liturgy in the Church of the Holy Cross at 9:00 a.m. celebrated by Very Rev. Bohdan Bilinsky. A private family interment of ashes will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Panachyda will be offered on Friday, August 1st, 2003 at 7:00 p.m., in the Church of the Holy Cross. Mr. Jaroslav (Jerry) Uchacz was born on August 5, 1922 in the Ukraine to his parents Peter and Anna (Fecak) Uchacz. His destiny brought him to Canada in May, 1949 and his journey ended on July 26, 2003. He is survived by his loving wife Amelia (Shera) Uchacz of 51 years, and their three children, Julianna (Walter) Czekurlon, Peter (Margaret Forbes) and Myron (Lisa Mack). He was Dido to seven grandchildren, Michael and Nicholas Czekurlon, Natalia, Vanessa, Daniel, Ashley and Stephen Uchacz. Predeceasing him were his two brothers Walter and Julian Uchacz and he will be sorely missed by his sister Amelia Chorney and his sister in law, Theresa, in the Ukraine. His nieces and nephews, Slavko (Iryna) Chorney, Olga (Lubomyr) Koczowski, Wolodamir (Iryna) Uchacz, Larysa (Barry) Tabor and their children, have lost an integral member of the family. Countless other family members are grieving at his passing. A respected and successful businessman, he established Jerry's Meat Market in 1952, which became a mainstay of the community for decades. He was the founding president of the Fort William Racing Pigeon Club and more recently found great-joy in raising bees for honey. He was passionate about his native heritage and proud of the life he had established in Canada. Due to his efforts, the knowledge of our extended family has grown, our lives have been enriched and his legacy will endure. Mrs. Evelyn Sharpe (nee: Parker), age 93 years and 15 days, passed away on Sunday, July 27th, 2003 in St. Joseph's Hospital Palliative Care. She was born in Haworth, England and was raised and educated there. She was a war bride and married Jesse Sharpe in 1945 in England. She joined him in Canada in 1946 and resided in Kingston. In 1947 they moved to Fort William. They operated Superior Picture Frames from 1953 until 1969. In 1970 Evelyn graduated from Lakehead University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and was very interested in philosophy, literature and history. Before her marriage she was commissioned as a Salvation Army Officer and served in several communities. She sang at her commissioning at the Royal Albert Hall, London. She also was popular as a lay preacher in the Haworth area. In her younger Fort William days she was an active member of a local writers group. Later she enjoyed Bible and Friends with members of St. Paul's Anglican Church. She enjoyed many happy hours spent with family and friends at the camp on Pine River. Evelyn will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Jennifer Sharpe of Thunder Bay, her children Jason Beck (Marlene) and Heather Beck (Stuart), two Great-grandchildren Rhiannon and Ariel, son-in-law Ken Beck, and several cousins in England and nieces and nephews in Canada. She was predeceased by her husband Jesse in 1992 and her parents Samuel and Eliza Parker. A funeral service for Mrs. Sharpe will be held in the Chapel of Jenkens Funeral Home 226 S. Syndicate Ave., on Wednesday, July 30th, 2003 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Brown and Rev. Lindeman officiating. A private interment will be held in Sunset Memorial Gardens following cremation. On July 27, 2003 at the age of 70 years, a dear wife, mother and grandmother, Ann Breukelman (Van Lenthe) went home to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. After many years of deteriorating health, she died at home with her family at her side. Ann was born in the Netherlands on July 24, 1933. She married Egbert Breukelman also of the Netherlands. The happy couple immigrated to Canada in 1954. Ann's joy in life was her family, her husband of 49 years, her children and grandchildren. She always had a smile when they came through the door. Her care and concern for others was always first. Ann was a member of the United Reformed Church. Her comfort in life was that she belonged to her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. She believed that her salvation was a gift of God. Her faith and love for the Lord was a strong testimony and comfort for the rest of the family. She will be dearly missed by her husband Egbert, who with quiet strength and loving care diligently helped her each day with her many needs. She will also be dearly missed by her children, Fred (Amy) Thunder Bay, Jerry (Jill) Redcliffe Alberta., Wilma (Gerry), Ed (Henrietta) Thunder Bay, Arnold (Veronica) Abbotsford B.C., Calvin (Karin), Alfred (Brenda) both of Thunder Bay, and 33 grandchildren. McKay, Rodney

The family of Rodney Donald McKay, announces with great-sorrow, his passing in hospital on Monday, July 28th 2003 following a brief illness. Rod was born May 3, 1939 in Port Arthur, ON to parents Gerry and Corinne McKay (nee Smith). Rod was educated at Port Arthur Technical and Commercial High School and then served in the RCAF. Following his discharge from the RCAF, Rod enlisted in the Navy Reserve HMCS Griffon while working at Videon and CKPR TV. In 1964 Rod and wife Ilona (nee Turrie), travelled to California to seek their fortune. Rod enjoyed an extensive career in broadcasting in Southern California which included employment at NBC, Warner Brothers and several private ventures. He had the ultimate dream job filming top shows such as Rowan and Martin's Laugh in, Hollywood Squares, The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, The Flip Wilson Show, The Dean Martin Show, several Bob Hope Specials and many more. After retirement, Rod returned to Thunder Bay in 2001 to be closer to family and friends, and to pursue his interest in writing screenplays, having recently sold a script for review to Warner Brothers Studios. Rod was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 5 executive, RCNA executive, ANAF Unit 257, Elks Lodge 82 and numerous other organizations in Thunder Bay and Southern California. Rod is survived by his daughter Lori (Charles) Swimmer and yet to be born and named granddaughter; sisters: Maxine (Jack) Lindgren of Burlington, ON (enroute), Eunice (A.K.A: Sandy) Glover of Caledonia, ON, Bonnie (Walter) Domagalski; brothers: Arthur (Bonnie) McKay, Stuart (Willy) McKay; step-mother Rhoda McKay (nee Wise) and ex-wife Ilona Brower (nee Turrie). Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and relatives from the Taylor family. He was predeceased by his parents; brother Craig McKay and sister Elizabeth McKay in childhood. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 1st, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, officiated by Canon David Bradford. A Service of Tribute by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #5 will follow. Annie enjoyed reading Braille, spending time in the bush, playing her guitar and writing music for Country singers like Ricky Skaggs, as well as spending time with her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She is survived by her sister Alice, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and many other relatives. She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers and a sister. Miss Mary Ann Kenny Currie, age 62 years, passed away peacefully on July 28th, 2003 with her family and friend Rose by her side. Mary Ann was the oldest of 7 Siblings and held a special place in the hearts of her family and friends. Her dignity, courage and fierce independence were admired by those who loved her. Mary Ann is survived by her sisters Bev (Dieter) Grandt (en route), Janet (Herb) Cashaback; brothers John (Carol), Don (Ann) and Bill (Nancy), numerous nieces and nephews, devoted friend Rose and beloved dog Bennie. She was predeceased by her parents Bill and Janet, sister Diane and friend Wes MacLean. Cremation has taken place. Mrs. Ginette Allan passed away after a lengthy illness at the age of 45. Born in Montreal, Ginette served in the Armed Forces before moving to Thunder Bay.
Ginette is survived by husband Keith, son Bruce (Amanda), mother Clare, sisters Jocelyn and Michelen, brother Serge (Annie), and numerous nieces and nephews. Ginette was predeceased by her father Marcel.

Enid Vivian (nee Preece), was born December 19, 1914 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and died July 27, 2003 in Victoria, BC. She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice in 1985 and her sister, Mona (Witty) in 1985. Enid is survived by her daughter, Vivian (Roy) Asham of Calgary; 4 sons: Willet (Mary) Simpson of California, Richard (Jackie) of Kenora, Thomas of Thunder Bay and Alan of Kenora; her sister, Jean Ditmars of Victoria; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 4 nieces and 3 nephews. Enid joined the Rebekah Lodge in Thunder Bay, Ontario in 1938 and transferred to the Unity Lodge No. 145 after leaving Kenora, Ontario and taking up residence in Victoria, BC. She received the Declaration of Chivalry as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Patriarch Militant of the International Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF). While a resident of Kenora, she was active in the Women's Institute and for many years taught sewing and cooking to girls in 4H Clubs. A celebration of Enid's life will be held at First Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1155 Fort Street in Victoria on Saturday, August 2 at 2:00 P.M. with a reception to follow. May is survived by her daughter Kay, husband Robert, their four children and seven grandchildren; her son Michael and wife Jan; her sister Betty McCutcheon, sisters-in-law Elaine Forrest, Margaret Forrest and Mimi Forrest and nieces and nephews. May and Gerald married in 1931 and spent the first eight years of their marriage in Kaministakwa (Dog River) and moved to Geraldton in 1939. In 1955 they returned to Port Arthur and May was involved with the Port Arthur Curling Club, Hymers Fair, and numerous bridge clubs. May enjoyed gardening, reading and bird watching and was a member of St. Paul's United Church. She was an active member of Unit 11, St. Paul's United Church and a lifetime member of the United Church Women's Group. Her main interests were family, her flower garden, cottage at Silver Islet - and she especially enjoyed a variety of music. Rose is survived by her daughter Arlene (Vernon) Robertson; son Bill (Lenore) Ferguson; two grandsons: Mark Sokolowski (Lori Kay), Craig (Kerrie) Ferguson; great-grandson David Sokolowksi, all of Thunder Bay; three brothers Rupert (Grace) Boyes, Ernie (Ann) Boyes, George Boyes, sister-in-law Mary Boyes, all of Thunder Bay; two sisters Jennie Shkrabek of Brighton ON and Bella Cameron of Whitby ON. Dr. Declan Barry died peacefully in the early hours of Friday, March 30, 2001, with his loving wife and friends by his side. Declan was born in Cork, Ireland, in 1946 and received his education at Presentation Brothers College and the University College Cork National University of Ireland. He left Cork to accept a post-doctoral fellowship at Cambridge University in England. He then moved to Exeter to work with English Electric as a Senior Design Engineer developing new satellite communications technology. Wanting to make better use of his education and industrial experience, Declan moved into academia and accepted a position with the Department of Industrial Technology at the University of Bradford in England. Lakehead University was fortunate to have attracted Declan to its Faculty of Engineering in 1980, where he served the university and the students admirably until his retirement in September 2000. Declan valued highly his dual role as engineer and professor. He made every effort to convey a sense of ethics and history in all that he taught, to the great-appreciation of his former students. Declan was an extremely intelligent, knowledgeable man, but, far more importantly, he was a kind, honest, and generous soul who had diverse interests and talents. He was the President of the Cambrian Players for two years and participated in many productions as both actor and director. He also worked professionally for Magnus Theatre, having possessed an absolutely classic Shakespearean voice. Declan will be sadly and forever missed by his wife, Nanci MacIvor; his children, Amy Kate and Fergus (of Bingley, England); and his brother, Aidan, and Aidan's family (of New Hampshire). Declan is survived by his mother, Tess (of Cork, Ireland), and was predeceased by his father, Cornelius, and his favourite uncle, Bartholomew Britton. A service in memory and celebration of Declan's life will take place at the Blake Funeral Chapel on Monday, April 2, 2001, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Lori Roberts passed away peacefully after a lengthy battle with cancer, on Thursday March 29th, 2001 in Thunder Bay Regional Hospital - McKellar Site. Lori was born in Springdale, Newfoundland and was raised and educated in Roberts Arm, Newfoundland. She moved to Marathon at the age 19 years for employment and later moved to Thunder Bay in 1997. Lori will be lovingly remembered by her husband Dwayne, parents Fred and Ruth Colborne, Barbara and Jerome Roberts, her twin sister Lisa of Marathon, Denise (Wade) Budgull of Marathon, brother Mike (Pam) of Alberta, nieces Monica and Ericka, nephews Warren, Tyler, Ashton & Tristan, sister-in-law Lori-Lyn (John) Oliveira of Manitouwadge. Mr. Louis E. Battiston, passed away peacefully with his family at his side, after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, March 28th, 2001 in Thunder Bay Regional Hospital - McKellar Site. Louis was born and raised in Fort William. He served his country in the Canadian Army during WWII. He moved to Kenora with his family and founded Lakeside Printing & Publishing and then moved back to Thunder Bay in 1971 where he worked until his retirement. His memory will be cherished by his wife of 49 years, Clara (nee: Lark), sons Arthur Douglas of Toronto, Murray Louis (Shevaune) of Kelowna, B.C., 3 brothers, Roland, Lee and Benny, 2 sisters, Vilma (John) Mauro, Delia Littlefair and many nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Jenkens Funeral Home, 226 S. Syndicate Avenue. A memorial mass for Mr. Battiston will be held on Monday, April 2nd, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Dominics Church with Reverend Dan Lapolla officiating. Interment in Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Kidney Foundation or the Northwestern Ontario Cancer Research Foundation, Mended Hearts or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.

Ann (Anna) Anderson, age 92 years of Apt 102, 30 Secord Street, passed away peacefully in Thunder Bay Regional Hospital - Port Arthur General site on Thursday, March 29, 2001. Born in Austria, she came to Canada to Hurkett in 1913 with her parents and sister and to Port Arthur in 1926. She was married here in 1934 to Everett Anderson. Ann was predeceased by her husband Everett in 1979 and sister Elizabeth Anderson (Edwin) in 1982. Her family and home were her main interests plus her much loved trips to the camp at Keego, Picnic Lake in White River, the island at Lake of the Woods and family gatherings at Trout Lake. Her memory will be deeply cherished by her daughter Katherine Macey (Ron) of Thunder Bay, her sons Carl Anderson (Marilyn) of Winnipeg, Ed Anderson (Joyce) of White River and her special nieces Margaret Pederson (Eiler) and Elizabeth Thomson (Charlie) both of Thunder Bay. Grandma (Nanny) will continue to live in the hearts of her 8 grandchildren Erik, Signe, Kristan, Dale, Mark and Tara, her 6 great-grandchildren and her numerous nieces and nephews. According to Ann's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.

Passed away in the evening of Thursday March 29th, 2001 at St. Joseph's Hospital at the age of 66. He was born in Cochrane, Ontario and moved to Port Arthur shortly afterwards. He grew up on Pearl Street where he spent the majority of his time honing his baseball skills and raiding gardens. He attended St. Andrews School, P.A.C.I and later graduated from instrument mechanics from Foxboro, Mass. During his adult life he was employed as an instrument mechanic at Provincial Papers for about 40 years. During that time he displayed his admiration for sport. His favorite teams being Brooklyn Dodgers, Montreal Canadians, Green Bay Packers and Boston Celtics. His skills for retention were used on numerous occasions regarding players, dates, games and statistics for which he continued to test himself, friends and family. Outside of work and during his retirement his idle time was spent with his family, helping to build, design, erect, and demolish all kinds of household renovations at his own home, sister Anne s, daughter Lori's and son Chad's. Other times were spent celebrating life, be it going to Minneapolis to enjoy a ball game, taking family out to eat, coming to family dinners, going to the casino with his sister, and most importantly spending time supporting or providing for his grandchildren in their sporting and schooling endeavors. Predeceased by his mother and father Katarina and Jacob and brother Wilfred Turgeon. Survived by sister Anne Turgeon, daughter Lori Kruger (Mark), son Chad (Charmaine), their mother Donalda (Addie), nephews Wayde (Bonnie, Jason, Catherine, David), Glenn (Sherry), grandchildren Cash, Chase, Madison and Mckenna. As per his wishes cremation has taken place, a celebration of his life will be at Everest Funeral Chapel Tuesday April 03rd, 2001 at 2:00 pm Visitation at 1:00 pm. If people so desire in lieu of flowers a donation to Children's Wish Foundation would be appreciated.
