Mary Merryman Lofland ’24, Kennett Square, Penn., March 6. Mary was active in her church, garden club, and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; she is survived by her son, C. Wendell.

Esther Rockafield Carroll ’28, Seattle, Feb.12.

Mary Clark Edmiston ’28, Glendale, Calif., Feb. 8.

Margaret Bradfield Keiser ’33, Denver, Dec. 29. Margaret was a founding member of Kappa Kappa Gamma fraternity. Her husband Sam preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughter, Jo Keiser Brookover ’61; son, Ron; and six grandchildren.

John F. Kurie ’34, Clover, S.C., March 11. John was vice-president of the M&M Mars Candy Corporation and an executive with Look Magazine and the Association of National Advertisers. In retirement, he acquired the Mecklenburg Times in Charlotte, N.C., and remained publisher until his death. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles ’35. He is survived by his wife, Harryett; a sister, Josephine “Betty” Uptegrove ’48; son, John; daughter, Edith; and two grandchildren.

Harriette Kearney Kurie ’35, Sparta, N.J., March 4, 2005. She was preceded in death by a sister, Edith Kearney ’31. She is survived by her son, John, and two grandchildren.

Dr. Robert W. Rasor ’35, Colorado Springs, Dec. 27. At Colorado College, he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta. He graduated from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, trained in psychiatry, and practiced for 65 years. He is survived by his wife, Celia; children, Amy Rasor Blackwell ’66, Robert Jr., Sue Nalapa, and Sally Phelan; cousin, Nancy Schlosser ’49; and six grandchildren. More than 20 of his relatives have attended, graduated from, or taught at Colorado College; someone from his family has been on campus all but two decades of the past century. Bob and Celia have been active in Colorado College’s Fifty Year Club and Friends of the Library, and have been hosts in the Adopt-a-Student program for out-of-state students.

Esther Powers Bemmels ’36, Hays, Kan., Dec. 12. Esther worked in alumni relations and development for Ottawa University and received their Distinguished Service award. She was predeceased by her husband, William D. ’34. She is survived by two children and two grandchildren.

Harold “Keith” Blubach ’36, Colorado Springs, Jan. 27. Keith was a postal supervisor in Colorado Springs for 30 years. He is survived by two children, Victor and Leticia, and two grandchildren.

Hobart M. Corning Jr. ’37, Golden, Colo., March 8. Hobart worked for Mountain Bell, entered the Navy as an officer, received a Purple Heart, and returned to Mountain Bell, where he worked until he retired. He loved horses and the West, gardening, volunteering, writing poetry, and working for his church. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; a daughter, Holly; and a son, Hobart. He was preceded in death by his sister, Catherine Corning Packard ’36.

Jeanne Collisson Winser ’39, Metairie, La., April 30. Jeanne was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma fraternity and a philanthropist who enjoyed gardening and bridge. She was preceded in death by her husband, Connaught. She is survived by her daughters, Diana Ogden and Virginia Cole, and four grandchildren, including Robert Cole ’99.

George M. Boyden ’41, Albuquerque, N.M., March 11. He studied pre-medicine at Colorado College while playing on Colorado College’s first hockey team, then earned a medical degree at the University of Colorado. He served in the Navy and Naval Reserve for more than 20 years, including tours of duty in China and Japan. He opened a private practice, then served as assistant dean of the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and was medical director at First Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque until he retired in 1983. He is survived by his wife, Dona Lawhead Boyden ’43; children, Barbara Boyden Walters ’69, George Boyden, Ann Smith, and Tom Boyden; sister, Elinore Boyden Brewer ’45; brother, James ’47; nephews, David Brewer ’68 and Mark Boyden ’73; and seven grandchildren. George and Dona were active in the Colorado College alumni club in Albuquerque.

Charlene Driver Lamb ’41, Pacific Palisades., Calif., April 20, 2005. Charlene was a 65-year member of Kappa Kappa Gamma fraternity. She worked at Douglas Aircraft, then in organic farming. She is survived by daughters Sue McNeil, Sally Lamb, and Patty Gissell, as well as four grandchildren.

David Sherbon ’41, Kentfield, Calif., Jan. 24. David was a psychiatrist and a sculptor. He is survived by his wife, Pamela, and his daughter, Suzanne.

Kathleen Aspy King ’41, Fountain Valley, Calif., Feb.19, 2005. She is survived by her husband, Robert.

Barbara Lynch Dieter ’42, July 21, 2005. Barbara was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority at Colorado College and later worked in vision screening for children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, and is survived by two children, Diane and William.

Barbara MacCracken Draper ’42, Santa Rosa, Calif., Feb. 16. An Army nurse, she served in London through World War II, then worked as a nurse in California for 43 years. She is survived by a son, Douglas, and three grandchildren.

Emma Jane Burritt Evans ’46, Irving, Texas, April 21. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, and is survived by her children Steve, John, Kitty, and Anne, a sister, Edith Constance Burritt Williams ’47, and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Evans Burnside ’44.

June Hunt Gray ’46, Phillipsburg, N.J., April 8. June was an elementary school teacher and a lettering artist. She is survived by her sons, Carl and James; her daughter, Ellen; six grandchildren; and her sisters, Ann Hunt Hieronymus ’50 and Jane Hunt Wiley ’50. She was preceded in death by her brother, Forest V. Hunt ’44.

William C. Killerlain ’46, Colorado Springs, March 17. Bill served in the European Theater in World War II, was wounded in action, and later worked as a civil servant. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, and is survived by his daughters, Gail Levinson, Eleanor Cooper, and Cynthia Murphy.

Harry E. Missildine ’46, Moscow, Idaho, Dec. 23. Harry was a sports columnist for Eastern Washington state newspapers for 25 years, and had been news editor of the Spokane Chronicle and sports editor of the Spokesman-Review. He served in Iceland for the Army Air Corps in World War II, and in the Washington National Guard during the Korean War. A former golf pro, he played to a seven handicap at age 83. He is survived by his wife, Helen, and his daughter, Joanna.

Jack P. Bookman ’50, Colorado Springs, Dec. 20. Jack served in the Navy and worked for Farmer’s Insurance for 42 years. He is survived by his wife, Helen Schooley Bookman ’50, children, Gary and Karen, and three grandchildren.

Marion Hurley Lord ’50, Albuquerque, N.M., Jan. 17. She was a lifelong volunteer. She is survived by her husband, William; her sons, Roger, William, and James Jr.; and seven grandchildren.

Arthur D. Sokolow ’50, Riverdale, N.Y., March 2. He served as a 1st lieutenant in the Korean War, and later worked as a financial and real-estate professional in Arkansas and New York. He was also a gourmet cook and opera lover. He is survived by a niece, Jesse ’72, and a nephew, Anthony ’75.

Margaret Appling Fennelly ’51, Denver, Dec. 23. Margaret worked for the U.S. Geological Survey in Denver. She is survived by her husband, Edward; children Teresa and Paul; her sister, Mildred Appling Vaag ’45; brother-in-law, Henry O. Vaag ’45; and her nephew, Erik J. Vaag ’81.

Audrey Baldwin Fox ’51, Boise, Idaho, Dec. 3. Audrey was a homemaker, and after moving with her family to Boise, active in international student exchange organizations and the Boise Assistance League. She was preceded in death by her husband Mark, and is survived by her children, Susan Fox ’81, Marca Grigsby, Craig Fox, and Janis Walburn, and four grandchildren.

Kent O. Mills ’51, Pontiac, Ill., Nov. 30, 2004. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War and was a retired Presbyterian minister. He is survived by a son, David, and a daughter, Carol.

Arthur W. Schweer Jr. ’51, Punta Gorda, Fla., Dec. 24. Art served in the U.S. Army and retired from AT&T after a 31-year career. He is survived by his wife, Hanni, and two daughters, Karin and Donna.

Mary Harrison Yates ’51, Bakersfield, Calif., Jan. 19, 2004. Mary was a licensed practical nurse at Penrose Hospital, then a homemaker. She is survived by son Alpha J. Anders ’76 and three grandchildren.

Ira F. Bennett Jr. ’52, Goshen, N.H., Dec. 15. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta, and earned an M.B.A. from Harvard University. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, and his daughter, Christine.

G. Estabrook Kindred ’53, Scarsdale, N.Y., Jan. 7. Brook was a retired advertising executive with Scholastic, and called himself “executive publisher emeritus.” A longtime Colorado College supporter, Brook was recently named to the Platform Tennis Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife, Molly; two daughters, Valerie and Dorothy; and four grandchildren.

Charles D. Hawley ’54, Bethesda, Md., March 26. After earning a law degree at Harvard University, Charles was an officer in the Navy’s Judge Advocate General’s office, a lieutenant commander in the Naval Reserves, and later an assistant general counsel for the United States Postal Service. He taught law at the University of Idaho and Case Western Reserve. With professors Earl Juhas and Albert Seay, he composed Colorado College’s alma mater, “O Colorado College Fair.” He is survived by his wife, Teresita; his sons, Charles and Paul; his daughters, Emily and Margaret; and five grandchildren.

Walter R. Dedrick Jr. ’57, Palm Desert, Calif., May 5. Walter was a member of Phi Gamma Delta, and owned a men’s formal-wear company for 20 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter R. ’23. He is survived by his wife, Connie Little Dedrick ’58; his son, Douglas; his daughters, Victoria and Anne, a sister; five grandchildren; and brother-in-law Douglas R. Little ’57.

Monty H. Johnson MAT ’57, Tualatin, Ore., June 12, 2005. Monty was a clinical physchologist for several hospitals, including Dammasch State Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Sheila; three children; and seven grandchildren.

Roger L. Wilkowski ’59, Roseville, Calif., Dec. 18. After working for Texaco and in the restaurant industry, Roger became an Episcopal minister in 1988. He is survived by his wife, Nancy.

Fritz Friant ’60, Gloucester, Va., Dec. 21. Fritz served in the Army for 26 years in locations including Okinawa, Thailand, Vietnam, and Brazil. He retired as a colonel, and purchased a commercial printing company, where he worked until his death. He was an avid fisherman. He is survived by his wife, Gailon, and two sons.

Margaret Patricia Wilson ’60, Bloomington, Minn., Nov. 29. She was an educator.

Ann Tyner Gleason ’63, Mexico, Feb. 17. Ann was a lawyer in Santa Fe, N.M., specializing in family and real estate law. She was the Green Party candidate for New Mexico senator in 2000. She is survived by two sons, Michael and David, and one grandson.

Ruby Francis L’Herisson MAT ’63, Colorado Springs, Nov. 10. Ruby was a retired physical education instructor at schools in Colorado Springs and Pueblo, Colo.

Barbara Cross Pozner ’63, Mercer Island, Wash., Dec. 16. Barbara was a public librarian. She is survived by her husband, Arthur, and her children, Rachel and Neal.

Francis M. Riddlemoser M.A. ’64, Colorado Springs, Jan. 27. Francis was an Army officer, a teacher, and a tax accountant. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; son, Robert; daughters, Cindy and Cathy; and two grandchildren.

Michael K. Schmidt ’64, Olympia, Wash., Feb. 22. At Colorado College, Michael was a member of Sigma Chi. His career in the beer industry included sales and marketing as well as beer and wine wholesaling; he had owned Puget Sound Beverage in Bremerton. He is survived by his wife, Laurel; his daughter, Katie; and two grandchildren.

Geoffrey A. Rivers ’65, Muncie, Ind., April 3. Geoff practiced law for more than 30 years in Muncie as a public defender and in private practice; he was admitted to practice in front of the U.S. Supreme Court in 1980. He is survived by his wife, Sara; daughter, Susan; sons, Gregory and Mark; three grandchildren; his mother; and a brother, Thomas ’62.

Karen Keiler Thompson ’66, Kennebunkport, Maine, Jan. 26. She was a real estate agent and caterer, active in civic organizations, and a world traveler. She is survived by her daughter, Erin, and a brother, Dick.

John P. Killackey ’69, Kansas City, Mo., April 25, 2005. John served as a second lieutenant in Army intelligence, then worked in research and business development for Honeywell, Hughes Aircraft, and Raytheon. He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Adrienne; and one grandchild.

James S. MacDougall ’69, San Marino, Calif., Jan 2. He had a lifelong interest in transportation and was an avid gardener. He is survived by his parents, William and Carol.

Julie Friend Shidler ’70, Rohnert Park, Calif., Jan. 5. After graduating from Colorado College, Julie and her then-husband (Peter W. Shidler ’70) co-owned two Brass Ass Pizza restaurants in California; she later opened her own vending business in Sonoma County. She is survived by two daughters, Whitney Friend Shidler ’01 and Morgan Shidler. She was preceded in death by her father, Emery D. Friend ’44; her brother, David H. Catherine Wilson Cariaso ’71, Estes Park, Colo., Jan. 12. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jane Hamilton Wilson ’43.

Diana Arten Schimmelpfennig ’73, Fargo, N.D., Aug. 2. She loved the outdoors, and studied botany as a graduate student. She was active in the Fargo-Moorhead YMCA in Fargo. She is survived by her husband, Jerel, and her children, Samuel, Anna, and Casey.

Andrew S. Peterson ’80, Glorieta, N.M., April 16. After graduating from Colorado College, Andy worked as an electrician and general contractor, owned Taos Furniture until 1998, and later worked as a contractor and landscaper. He played goalie for soccer teams and the Santa Fe men’s field hockey club. He is survived by his brother, Jess L. ’75; his sons, Nick and Chris; his mother, Mary Lynn Sorenson; and his father and stepmother, Roger and Marie Peterson.

Courtney S. Chiasson ’87, Denver, March 2. He worked in marketing for an international sound company, and lived in Italy for five years. Despite long-term illness, Courtney worked hard and found success in life. He is survived by his father, three brothers, and two sisters.

Gabriel E. Pando ’92, Fort Collins, Colo., March 25. After graduating from Colorado College, Gabe earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering at Colorado State University. He co-founded software company IntegWare, a software consulting company that was named by Deloitte and Touche as one of the Fast 50 in 1998 for fast growth. He was diagnosed with ALS in 1999, and began converting some of the profits from that firm to fund an endowed scholarship for four Latino students each year at Colorado College. He is survived by his wife, Abby Balfany; parents, Edward and Carmen; and a brother, Matthew.

Seth S. Fisher ’94, Nagoya, Japan, Jan. 30. Seth was an artist whose work was featured in DC Comics and a range of publications from Cricket to Heavy Metal. He was profiled in the April 2004 Colorado College Bulletin. He is survived by his wife, Hisako, and his son, Toufuu.

Rosalie Yerkes Figge, Timonium, Md., April 10. Rosalie established a fund to support undergraduate biology research at Colorado College. Rosalie’s interest in biology was sparked by managing a colony of 10,000 lab mice while her husband Frank chaired the anatomy department of the University of Maryland Medical School. She later became a nationally known iris grower; one of her protιgιs named a deep-violet iris in her honor. She was preceded in death by her husband, and a son. She is survived by two daughters, RosalieAnn Figge Beasley and Barbara Figge Fox, and seven grandchildren.

Kathleen “Katy” Wallick, Colorado Springs, April 22. A former student at Colorado College, Katy and her husband Bob met while attending Colorado College. She worked at two local printing companies and supported local animal welfare organizations. Katy was preceded in death by her mother, Frances Willis Fisher ’32. She is survived by her husband, Bob; her sons, Mark and Kirk; three grandchildren; an aunt, Matilda Willis Weber ’31; and a cousin, Nancy Wigington ’74.
