Charlotte Bergner McKinley '26, Denver, June 9.

Douglas McHendrie '27, Denver, April 29. He was student body president at Colorado College and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received a Rhodes Scholarship and worked as an attorney with various firms in Colorado until 1981. He served on the Board of Trustees at Colorado College from 1967-70 and as a charter trustee from 1972-84. The biannual Spurgeon-McHendrie pre-law dinner at Colorado College was created in his, and Professor Bob Spurgeon's, honor. He received the Lloyd Worner Award from the Colorado College Alumni Association in 1990.

Hugh Shepherd '31, Denver, March 23. Survivors include his wife, Louise.

Genevieve Raitinger Taylor '34, Colorado Springs, June 23. She was a retired school teacher. Survivors include her daughter, Lorinda Taylor '61.

Richard Harrison '35, Monroe, La., May 7. Survivors include his wife, Geraldine.

Margaret Utterback Bosworth '36, Denver, Jan. 29.

George Fisher '37, Denver, Mar. 28. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Fisher Erickson '35.

Leonard Gates '37, St. Louis, Mo., April 4, 1995.

Nathaniel Cary '38, Albuquerque, N.M., July 17, 1996. He was preceded in death by his sister, Alice Cary Miller '37.

Gordon Gallup '38, Seattle, Wash., Feb. 25. Survivors include his wife, Helen Brobeck Gallup '40.

Betty Bartlett Brueggeman-Kanaly '39, Waltham, Mass., April 9. She pioneered special education in School District #11 in Colorado Springs and served as principal of the Rocky Mountain Rehabilitation Center for 20 years. Survivors include her brother, Robert Bartlett '41. She was preceded in death by her second husband, David Kanaly '40.

L. Vernon Hunt '39, Denver, June 30. He is survived by his wife, Lucile.

Haruo Amemiya '40, Seal Beach, Calif., June 28, 1996. He and his wife, Emiko, operated a gift store in Manitou Springs until 1991. His wife preceded him in death.

Glenn Vetesk '40, Denver, June 13. He was a commercial photographer. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Huckabee Vetesk '42.

Robert Boucher '42, Pleasant Hill, Ore., June 23. Survivors include his wife, Catherine.

John "Jack" Laws '42, Larkspur, Colo., May 20. An active member of the Fifty Year Club at Colorado College, he served as 1st Vice President from 1994-95. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie and daughter, Susan Laws '72.

Ida-Myrtle (Wendy) White Mitchell '45, Seattle, Wash., May 13.

Roy McKittrick '47, Rocky Ford, Colo., April 13. He practiced medicine in Pueblo, Colo., from 1960-1969 and in Rocky Ford from 1969-1986. Survivors include his wife, LaBerta, his son, John '73, and his daughter, Martha '76. He was preceded in death by his brother, John '50.

Margaret Anderson Rouse '47, Northridge, Calif., May 10. She was active in the San Fernando Valley Chorale and the New Valley Symphony Orchestra of Los Angeles. Survivors include her husband, Robert '43, and her sister, Pauline Anderson Mosier '38.

Robert Service '47, Denver, May 2. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy.

Cora Woodson Grote '48, Banning, Calif., Feb. 15. Survivors include her husband, William '50. She was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Woodson Villars '40.

Leo McGlade '48, Sacramento, Calif., Oct. 12, 1996.

Harold McGovern '49, Lawrence, Kan., July 5. Survivors include his wife, Lois Peterson McGovern '51 and daughter, Pamela McGovern Aubry '84.

Norma Abplanalp '50, Colorado Springs, June 22. She was a pharmacist.

Dale Ehrhart '50, Venice, Fla., May 10. Survivors include his wife, Jean.

Jack Might '50, Colorado Springs, June 8. An important figure in local figure skating, Jack was president of the Broadmoor Skating Club from 1971-1984. He served as chairman of World, National and Jr. World competitions, as well as three Olympic Sports Festivals held at the Broadmoor World Arena. Survivors include his wife, Virginia.

John Pflug '50, Colorado Springs, June 12. He was a retired chemist for Dow Chemical, Rocky Flats and the Air Force. Survivors include his wife, Turza Briscoe Pflug '48, and daughter, Patricia Pflug Dillingham '76.

Mary Jackman Eitemiller '51, Denver, May 19. She worked as a Republican Party activist for more than 20 years.

Melvin Weimer '52, Colorado Springs, June 14. He was a philanthropist, volunteer and patron of the arts. He worked as the managing general of The Weimer Properties for the past 32 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin S. Weimer '26.

John Sampson '53, Rifle, Colo., April 22. He worked for Dow Chemical at the Rocky Flats Atomic weapon plant until his retirement. Survivors include his wife, Joanna.

Claire Patterson Wagoner '54, Colorado Springs, June 5, 1996. She was a former teacher in District #11 and a realtor.

Shirley Reibscheid Poirier '56, Colorado Springs, April 12. Survivors include her husband, John.

Jolie Burt Soukup '60, El Paso, Texas, May 18. She was a teacher in Cloudcroft and La Union, N.M. She was a member of a pioneer New Mexico farm and ranch family. Survivors include her husband, Don '58.

Marilynn Maier Crump '63, Portland, Ore., Jan. 12. Survivors include her husband, Jimmie.

FRIENDS

Dorothy Printup Bryson, Colorado Springs, June 7. An active member of the Colorado College community, Dorothy began teaching Latin and Greek in 1921. She was head resident of both Montgomery and McGregor Halls, on staff of the Dean of Women, executive secretary of summer session, and member and past president of the Women's Educational Society. She received the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters from Colorado College in 1989. Survivors include her step-daughters, Marian Hulbert Parks '24 and Nancy Bryson Schlosser '49, a member of the Board of Trustees at Colorado College; granddaughters Jeanne Parks Werrell '60 and Helen Powell '64; and great-grandson, Ashton Powell '00. She was preceded in death by her step-daughter, Katharine Hulbert '31.

Gladys Bueler, Colorado Springs, March 18. She was secretary to Colorado College president, General William H. Gill from 1947-1951. She was responsible for finding (in the depths of Cutler Hall's basement storage area) the photo of Cutler Hall standing alone on the plains of Colorado Springs. She went on from Colorado College to become a noted Colorado historian.

Gretchen M. Karnick, Colorado Springs, Dec. 19. A longtime friend and supporter of Colorado College, she bequeathed funds for the Michael Francis Karnick '58 scholarship at the college.

Gunther J. Paetsch, Colorado Springs, April 30. He was professor of cello at Colorado College.

Dave Peterson, Colorado Springs, July 17. Two-time U.S. Olympic hockey coach, Dave passed away following complications from heart bypass surgery. For the past three years he volunteered as an assistant hockey coach at Colorado College.

Mary Haden Worner, Colorado Springs, May 26. She was a member of the Women's Educational Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd E. Worner '42, the ninth president of Colorado College who served from 1963-81.
