Fern Pring Corley ’22, Colorado Springs, July 5, 1997. She and husband, W.D., founded the Corley Company in 1931, serving as its secretary/treasurer. She was a life member and past president of the Woman’s Educational Society, and was the last surviving member of The Berle Club. Survivors include her daughter, Doris Corley Jackson ’55, son,

W. Douglas Corley, Jr. ’58, daughter-in-law, Andrea Jelstrup Corley ’58, granddaughters, Anne Corley ’83 and Carin Corley ’87. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Douglas Corley ’23.

Dorothy Graves Landon ’23, Denver, Dec. 1. She was a former professor of Spanish and French at Colorado College. Survivors include her nephew, Cecil Effinger ’35. She was preceded in death by her husband, former Colorado College professor, Robert Landon, and her brother, Cecil Graves ’16.

Denzil Blow ’26, Casper, Wyo., May 21, 1996. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Page Blow ’26.

Lyle Blaine Gray ’26, Baltimore, Md., April 5, 1997. She was preceded in death by her sister, Florian Blaine Boyd ’24, her husband, Arthur Gray ’25, and her brother, Edward Blaine ’35.

Helen Crane ’27, Colorado Springs, Jan. 16. Survivors include her sister, Christina Crane ’26.

Geraldine Dewitt Lynn ’27, Baytown, Texas, Jan. 2. She was a teacher and homemaker. Survivors include her son, Robert Lynn ’52, daughter-in-law, Helen Steele Lynn ’52 and nephew, Donald DeWitt ’67. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, and her son, Harold Jr. ’51.

Mary Shepard Martin ’27, Colorado Springs, Feb. 20. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Martin ’27.

Josephine Wickes ’30, Colorado Springs, Jan. 7. She was a rodeo cowgirl in the 1920s and ‘30s and two-time Queen of the Colorado Springs Rodeo. She was inducted into the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo Hall of Fame in 1997 for her contributions to women’s rodeo.

Albert Giesecke ’31, Colorado Springs, Jan. 8. He was an award-winning artist known for his portraits, landscapes and still lifes in oil, pastel and watercolor. Survivors include his wife, Frances Hewins Giesecke ’31. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lewis Giesecke ’35.

Paul Conover ’32, Colorado Springs, March 5. He was retired from Conover Realty and Investment Company which he formed in 1959. Survivors include his third wife, Dorothy Smith Conover ’34. He was preceded in death by his second wife, DaVerne Dickson Conover ’44 and his brother, Everett Conover ’29.

Roy Anderson ’33, Denver, Dec. 1. He was retired as executive director of Presbyterian Medical Center in Denver.

Patricia Johnson Buster ’33, Venice, Fla., Feb. 7. She was widely known for her generous contributions to many charitable causes.

John Langum ’33, Tucson, Feb. 26. He was owner and president of Business Economics, Inc. from 1951 until his death. He also taught economics in numerous colleges and universities across the country throughout his career. In 1994, Colorado College awarded him the Benezet Award, which recognizes outstanding achievement in one’s chosen field. Survivors include his wife, Sue.

Harrison Loesch ’36, Montrose, Colo., Nov. 11. He was a practicing attorney and former Assistant Secretary of the Interior, where he managed the Bureau of Land Management, Parks Services, Territories and Possessions and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Survivors include his wife, Agnes Johnson ’38, and son, Jeffrey Loesch ’68. He was preceded in death by his brother, Malcolm Loesch ’39.

Daniel Buchanan ’37, Denver, March 13. He retired in 1987 as a physician with St. Joseph’s and St. Luke’s hospitals in Denver. Survivors include his wife, Louise Grabow Buchanan ’39.

John (Ned) McWilliams ‘39, Colorado Springs, March 16. Survivors include his daughter, Kathryn McWilliams-Griffith ’72 and son-in-law, Marshall Griffith ’71. He was preceded in death by his brother, Harry McWilliams ’42.

Kathleen O’Donnell Caldwell ’40, Denver, Feb. 4. She was an artist, engineer and interior designer. Survivors include her husband, Maurice.

Warren FitzSimmons ’40, Denver, Dec. 9. He was a retired school administrator. He was preceded in death by his sister, Bernice FitzSimmons Hathaway ’37.

Betty Andreae Youngblood ’40, Parrish, Fla. Survivors include her husband, Robert.

L.W. Boggs ’41, Monroe, La., Dec. 1. Survivors include his wife, Ruth.

Frank Niswander ’41, South Bend, Ind., Feb. 23. Survivors include his wife, Shirley.

William Rhodes ’44, Colorado Springs, Nov. 28. He served for 22 years as a district judge in Colorado Springs until his retirement in 1987. Survivors include his wife, Donna, daughter, Cynthia Rhodes McBride ’76 and son, Lawrence Rhodes ’79.

Robert Larson ’48, LaCrosse, Wis., Sept. 18. Survivors include his wife, Pat.

Emil Enstrom ’50, Grand Junction, Colo., Jan. 17. He was a candymaker who expanded his father’s Enstrom Almond Toffee business into the international market. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Grell Enstrom ’50.

Marilyn Noyes Voll ’51, Amelia Island, Fla., Jan. 18. Survivors include her husband, Theodore.

Carl Lawrence ’52, Midland, Texas, Oct. 21. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Hatch Lawrence ’50.

Alvaro Martins ’59, Rochester, N.Y., Feb. 13. He had a long and distinguished career with both IBM and Xerox corporations. He also founded and directed the Executive Leadership Council, with council members providing mentorship and assistance to young, minority would-be executives. In 1993, he received the Benezet Award from Colorado College, recognizing him for outstanding achievement in his field. Survivors include his wife, Gwendolyn.

(Correction: In the summer 1998 issue of the Bulletin magazine, the obituary for Alvaro Martins ’59 incorrectly listed Gwendolyn Alexander as his surviving spouse. She was a former spouse. Mr. Martins was not married at the time of his passing.)

Priscilla Campbell Goldson ’62, Denver, Jan. 3. She was professor of immunology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and head of the basic immunology division in the Department of Medicine at National Jewish Medical and Research Center. Survivors include her husband, Edward.

Gretchen Feroe Bruffy ’63, Canon City, Colo., Feb. 2. Survivors include her husband, James.

Henry Poole ’64, Colorado Springs, March 15. Survivors include his wife, Mary.

Karen Keithley Moore ’70, Bermuda Dunes, Calif., Apr. 18, of cancer. She was a teacher.

Craig Herst ’89, Breckenridge, Colo., Jan. 22, after a long illness.

Staar Prewitt Drake ’91, St. Louis, Feb. 17, from injuries sustained in a automobile accident while in Chihuahua, Mexico. She lived in Kansas City, Mo., where she was an attorney with Blackwell Sanders law firm. Survivors include her brother, Brent Drake ’00. She was preceded in death by her brother, Brookes Drake ’94.

Josephine Boddington, Colorado Springs, Jan. 15. Survivors include her sons, John ’69 and William (Tim) ’72. She was preceded in death by her husband, William.

Karl Eitel, Colorado Springs, Feb. 8. He was president of the Broadmoor Hotel from 1982-1990; Vice chairman, executive committee of the board from 1990-1991; and president and director of the Broadmoor Golf Club from 1992-1995. He also served as chairman, executive committee and trustee of the El Pomar Foundation. He was the foundation’s longest-serving trustee - since 1974. Survivors include his wife, Mary.

Christine Moon, Nov. She was a former dean of women at Colorado College and a member of the Woman’s Educational Society.

Clara Lee Tanner, Tucson, Dec. 22. She was a visiting professor of anthropology at Colorado College in the early 1980s.
