Mary Louise Morrison
Mary Louise Morrison, 62, formerly of Climax, died in Las
Vegas, Nev., on May 2, after a long struggle with cancer.
Morrison was born in Denver on Aug. 22, 1941, to James E.
Morrison and Mary A. (Cavanaugh) Morrison.
After growing up in Climax and graduating from Climax High
School, she attended Creighton University. She finished
college at Saint Mary’s University in Leavenworth, Kansas,
with a degree in business education. She received her
masters degrees in computer science and elementary
education at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, Wis.
She taught school for many years in Milwaukee, where she
made her home with her aunt, Elizabeth Cavanaugh.
Morrison was preceded in death by her parents.
Morrison is survived by her brother James E. (Helen)
Morrison, Jr., Leadville; nephew James E. (Amy) Morrison,
III, Leadville; niece Michelle R. (Jack) Woulfe, Lakewood,
Colo.; grand nephews James E. Morrison, IV; Ryan T.
Morrison, both of Leadville; and Joseph W. Woulfe,
Lakewood, Colo.; and grand niece Danielle S. Woulfe,
Lakewood, Colo.
Morrison was a cousin to the members of the Kerrigan
families.
A Memorial Mass was offered for her at Annunciation Catholic
Church in Leadville on May 15. Interment followed at St.
Joseph Cemetery.
Kenneth Dale Baumann
Kenneth Dale Baumann, 48, died June 1, 2004, at St.
Anthony Hospital in Denver.
Baumann was born in Fontana, Calif., on March 26, 1956, to
Ed and Rosalie Baumann.
He came to Leadville in the ‘80s. Often he was sitting at
Safeway with his two dogs, Shiloh and Rosie.
Baumann was preceded in death by his mother Rosalie
Baumann.
He is survived by his father Ed Baumann; stepmother
Barbara Baumann, Alta Loma, Calif.; sister Jolene Whitaker,
Selmer, Tenn.; and brother Robert Baumann, Fontana,
Calif.; and son Dennis Baumann, in the U.S. Army.
Baumann will be cremated and his ashes sent to his father in
California for a memorial service in July. A memorial service
was held at St. George Episcopal Church in Leadville.
Susan Kay Janish
Former Leadville resident Susan Kay Janish, 51, died May
26, 2004, in Mitchell, S.D.
Janish was born April 23, 1953, in Chamberlain, S.D., to
John and Garnet Diekhoff Price .
She grew up in Chamberlain and graduated from
Chamberlain High School in 1971. She lived most of her
adult life in Leadville and Denver, moving to Mitchell, S.D.,
in 2002.
Janish was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jill;
brother David Price ; and father John Price .
She is survived by her mother, Garnet Price , Firesteel
Healthcare Center, Mitchell, S.D.; son Nathan (Cindy) Janish,
Golden; brother John M. Price , Fairplay; sisters JoEllen (Don)
Roxworthy,
Crystal Lake, Ill.; and Cathy (Mike) Adams, Kansas City,
Mo.; granddaughter Hannah Janish, Golden; and several
nieces and nephews.
James Warren Knight
Leadville resident James Warren Knight, 81, died June 6 at
St. Vincent Hospital.
Knight was born in Grand Island, Neb., on July 28, 1922, to
Ward and Alice (Raymond) Knight.
He went to school in Grand Island and then entered the
United States Army.
After receiving an honorable discharge, Knight returned to
Grand Island and on Jan. 1, 1950, married the former
Audrey Sharp at the Assembly of God Church.
Knight worked as a truck driver for Norden's Laboratory
while in Grand Island.
In 1960, they moved to Leadville where Knight went to work
for the Climax Molybdenum Mine, Stork Level. After 23 years
of service, he retired from the mine.
Knight enjoyed working on cars and was an avid reader of
non-fiction, especially history.
Knight was preceded in death by his parents; brother Gerald
Knight; and grandson Frank James Garland.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Audrey Knight,
Leadville; daughters Penny (Ricky) Garland, Bean Station,
Tenn.; and Kitty Knight, Grand Junction; son Michael Knight,
Grand Junction; grandchildren Taylor, Melissa, Justin and
Arianne Knight and Adeline and Bobbi Khristine Garland;
brothers Robert Knight and Lester Knight; and sisters
Margaret Meinecke, Bernadine Beekman and Lois Bell; and
13 great grandchildren.
Services were held on June 8 at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel.
The Reverend Tim E. Garrison officiated. Following the
services, Knight was taken back to Grand Island, Neb.,
where he was buried in the Phillips Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by Bailey Funeral Home.
Paul Derek Lane
Leadville resident Paul Derek Lane died May 30 at North
Suburban Medical Center in Thornton.
Lane was born on June 19, 1956, in Fort Worth, Texas, to
Doris (Rood) and Glen Lane, both natives of Leadville.
After graduating from Rancho Alamitos High School in
Garden Grove, Calif., in 1974, Lane worked in many phases
of the construction industry in California and Colorado. He
was an especially skilled stone mason.
Lane married Marcia (Alameida) Lane on Oct. 26, 1985, in
Aspen. They have resided in Leadville since 1995.
He was very interested in athletics and participated in
baseball, basketball, swimming, gymnastics and tennis most
of his life.
He is survived by his wife Marcia Lane, Leadville; father Glen
Lane, Denver; brother Patrick Dirk Lane, Hawaii; and uncles
Jere Rood, Aspen; and Tom Rood, El Paso, Texas.
Services will be held Sunday, June 27, at 1 p.m. at St.
George Episcopal Church in Leadville.
