Darren Robert Salazar
Darren Robert Salazar, 19, died Saturday, March 12, as the result of an automobile accident near Gypsum. He was born on April 13, 1985, in Vail to Lisa Martinez and Robert E. Salazar. Salazar went to Red Sandstone Elementary School and Battle Mountain High School. Most recently he was employed as a gutter specialist with Vail Valley Gutters. Salazar enjoyed playing baseball and football. He was an avid Nintendo and Xbox player and he loved music. He hunted with his grandfather and was especially fond of teasing his younger brother. But along with the teasing, he always took care of Andrew. Salazar loved everyone and always wanted to cheer people up. He had a way of getting a smile out of the bluest of friends and family. Besides family and friends, Salazar loved spending time with his faithful dog, “LaLa.”
Salazar is survived by his parents Robert (Beverly Padilla) Salazar, Gypsum, and Lisa Martinez, Red Cliff; brother Andrew, Gypsum; stepsisters Shannen and Meredith Padilla; grandparents Jose and Jane Martinez, Red Cliff; and George and Elsie Salazar, Eagles Nest; great grandmothers Gertrude Medina, formerly of Red Cliff and now in Carbondale; and Tonita Medina, Broomfield; God-parents Joseph and Celine Martinez; as well as numerous aunts,
uncles and cousins.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Leadville. The Rosary will be held on Thursday, March 17, at 7 p.m. at Battle Mountain High School Gym. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 18, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Parish Center in Minturn. Father Hugh M. Guentner, O.S.M., will officiate and music will be provided by Bobby Mascarenas, JoJo Ramos and Bob Trezise. The eulogy will be given by Joseph Martinez and readers will be Celine Martinez and Michael Lovato. Ushers will be Michael Lovato and Cesar Hermosillo.
Interment will be in River View Cemetery in Minturn. Pallbearers will be Paul Rodriguez, Joseph Martinez, Corey Sandoval, Anthony Serna, Melvin Valdez and Jeremy Salazar. Honorary pallbearers will be Frankie Salazar and Dee Dee Romero.
Following the interment, there will be a reception at the Spirit Center in Minturn.

Kenneth N. Smith
Kenneth N. Smith, 81, of Cushing, Okla., died March 13, 2005, at the Cushing Regional Hospital.Smith was born on Aug. 3, 1923, in Tryon, Okla., to Charles and Tressie (Campbell) Smith. He grew up in Cushing and attended Cushing schools.
Smith joined the U.S. Navy and served during WW II. He married Delores Smith on Sept. 1, 1954, at the Church of Christ in Cushing. They moved to Colorado, where he worked for the Climax Molybdenum Company in Climax., Colo., for 30 years, retiring in 1980. They moved back to Cushing to raise their family. Smith loved taking care of his family and enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Smith was preceded in death by his parents; wife Delores Smith in 1996; son Timothy Smith in 1992; and brother Orville Smith.Smith is survived by his daughters Michelle (Curtis) Sams, Cushing; and Merbie Ludtke, Agra, Okla.; and grandchildren Cordia and Lexey Sams.Graveside services were held on March 15, 2005, followed by interment at the Fairlawn Cemetery, Cushing, Okla.

Mary Ann Hudson
Mary Ann Hudson, 73, of Walsenburg, died March 6, 2005.Hudson was born March 18, 1931, in Leadville as Mary Ann Arnold. She spent her youth in the mining camp of Climax.
She is survived by her three children; brother Carl Arnold; and aunt Marge Hrinek.
Services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Walsenburg on Saturday, March 12, at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Spanish Peaks Library District, 323 Main St., Walsenburg, CO 81089.
George H. Martinez
George H. Martinez, 69, died Feb. 28. Martinez was born on Feb. 25, 1936, in Llano, N.M., to Rosendo and Beronice Esquibel Martinez. He grew up in Llano and attended Penasco High School. In 1956, Martinez moved to Red Cliff where he went to work for the New Jersey Zinc/Gilman Mine. After 20 years of service to the mine, he retired from mining when the Gilman Mine closed. He then went to work for Vail Associates and then for City Market. Martinez married Stella, his wife of 42 years, on Dec. 23 in Minturn.
Martinez loved sports of all kinds. He was devoted to his Lord and Savior. He attended the New Life Assembly of God and looked forward to all the services he attended there. He also enjoyed being with the senior citizens of Minturn. He especially loved being with his family and spending time with his grandchildren.
Martinez was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his ex-wife Stella, Minturn; children Veronica (Rudy) Serna, Avon; George E. (Dolly) Martinez, Red Cliff; Michael R. Martinez, Norman D. Martinez and Arnold M. (Christy) Martinez, all in Minturn; sisters Dorothy Medina and Tanya Gonzales, both of Red Cliff; and Felima Sanchez, Utah; grandchildren Jeffrey, Modesta, Rudy Jr. and Angelo Serna; Isaiah, Yolanda and Isaac Martinez; Stella Martinez, and Ezekiel and Elijah Martinez; great grandchildren Elijah, Cordiaro, Gabe, Daja, Alyssa and Shaylene; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Services were held March 2 at the New Life Assembly of God Church in Avon. Private interment was in River View Cemetery in Minturn. Pastor Dan Matney officiated. Pallbearers were Isaiah, Isaac and David Martinez, Jeffrey, Angelo and Rudy Serna, and Jerry and Moises Medina.Arrangements are being handled by Bailey Funeral Home in Leadville.
Anthony ‘Tana” Russel Rivera
Anthony ‘Tana” Russel Rivera, 50, died March 3, 2005, in Leadville. He was born Nov. 10, 1955. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, March 12, at 11 a.m. at the Annunciation Catholic Church.
Grant Edward Bellm
Grant Edward Bellm, 78, died March 21, 2005. He was born on Aug. 19, 1926, in New Castle, Colo., to Roy and Edith (Bird) Bellm.On Jan. 24, 1947, he married Rosamae Morgan in Raton, N. M.
Bellm worked at Climax Molybdenum Mine Co. from 1952 to 1978. He retired to Canon City, living there for 29 years.
Bellm was an avid hunter, fisherman and a gardener. He served on the finance committee, vestry and men’s Bible study group at Christ Episcopal Church. He was a member of the Elks club, American Legion, National Foot Printers Org., and Kristi Lanes bowling league.
Bellm was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter Wendy Michelle Gilmer; and brother Harold Bellm.
Bellm is survived by his wife Rosamae; children Rixie (Jim) Burke, Winnemucca, Nev.; Grant (Margaret) Bellm, Leadville; and Charlotte (Harold) Tuxhorn, Leadville; grandchildren Preston Kip Gilmer, Canon City; Ginger “Mickie” West, Henderson, Nev.; Tracy (Pat) Key, Henderson, Nev.; Nicole Tuxhorn, Leadville; Amber (Oz) Ousback, Leadville; and Kim-Lee Grant Tuxhorn-Seoul, South Korea; six great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.Visitation was held March 24 at Holt Family Funeral Home. A memorial service was held on March 25 at Christ Episcopal Church with Reverend Mark Meyer officiating.
