Edith Mary “Sue” Chamberlain
Edith Mary “Sue” Chamberlain, 85, died March 22 at her
home in Frisco with her family close by her side. Chamberlain was born on Sept. 13, 1919, on a ranch between Frisco and the old Town of Dillon. She went to school in Old Dillon until her senior year when she graduated from North Denver High. She received her nursing degree from St. Anthony Hospital in Denver and then went on to post graduate work at Colorado General Hospital. Chamberlain served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army Nursing Corps. After receiving an honorable discharge, she returned to Colorado and continued in her nursing career.On Sept. 7, 1947, she married Charles G. Chamberlain and together they had two daughters.Chamberlain was one of the founding members of the Frisco Historical Society and was also a member of the Eastern Star for several years. She attended the Rocky Mountain Bible Church in Frisco and, most recently, belonged to the Abundant Life Church in Silverthorne. Her hobbies included painting, music and shopping.
Chamberlain was preceded in death by her parents Wilbert S. and Elizabeth A. (McDonald) Giberson; and brothers Roy, Glenn, Jim and Kenneth. Chamberlain is survived by her daughters Mickie L. Ostermiller, Colorado Springs; and Peggy L. (Ron) Alexander, Frisco; brother Howard Giberson, Frisco; sisters-in-law Berdena Giberson, Colorado Springs; and Eldora Kongable, Riverton, Wyo.; grandchildren Chris, Cody, Colt and Cassidy, all of Colorado Springs; and Veronica and Jolene, Denver; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The viewing was held on March 26 at the Rocky Mountain Bible Church in Frisco followed by services. Pastor Bruce Miles officiated and Wanda Toney sung accompanied by Sandy Olson. Military honors were provided by Ft. Carson Army Base.Interment was in the Dillon Cemetery. Pallbearers were Chamberlain’s grandchildren, Christopher, Cody and Colt Carabello, Cassidy Ostermiller, Veronica Buck and Jolene Houchens.Following graveside services, the family received friends at a reception back at the Church.

Mary “Day” Damjanovic
Mary “Day” Damjanovic, 92, died during Palm Sunday Mass on March 20, 2005, at St. Jean Baptiste Catholic Church in New York City. She was born in Leadville on March 22, 1912, and baptized
at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Her father, Jure (George) was killed in an accident in the Louisville Mine in 1913.
Following his death, Mary’s mother Helen Predovic took Mary and her older siblings, George and Zora, back to her native Croatia (then part of Austria-Hungary). Damjanovic grew up in Yugoslavia, then returned as a young woman to the U.S. to study nursing in Chicago. She lived in the U.S. the rest of her life, though she made repeated trips to visit her family in Yugoslavia.
Her life was devoted to caring, first for children, and later for the elderly. Devoutly religious, she was an active member of St. Jean Baptiste Catholic Church in New York City for more than 50 years. She was widely admired and praised for her devotion to the church and for her volunteer work with the needy, the poor and the elderly. She was a lay sister with the Third Order of St. Francis and belonged to many other Catholic societies. In her 60’s and 70’s, as a member of the Blue Army, she carried the message of the Virgin Mary around the world.In 2001, Damjanovic came to Leadville for the first time since infancy to visit her father’s grave. At this time, she met distant Damjanovic cousins including Louise and Jan Clune, Martha Hren, Fred Slifka and Janine Weitzel. Damjanovic is survived bv many nieces and nephews in Croatia and Slovenia, and by the Freeman family of New York.
As was her desire, Damjanovic was buried with her beloved father in St. Joseph’s Cemetery on March 29, 2005.Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph Cemetery in Leadville. Memorial Mass will be recited at St. Jean Baptiste Catholic Church in New York City on Sunday, April 24, at 10:30 a.m.

Dale Leo Chaney
Dale Leo Chaney, 52, died March 29 at St. Anthony Central Hospital in Denver. Chaney was born in Leadville on Dec. 19, 1952, to Sam H. and Edna Hilscher Chaney.
After graduating from Lake County High School, Chaney entered the United States Army; he received the National Defense Service Medal.On June 15, 1974, Chaney married the former Gayle Waterman. Following an honorable discharge, they lived for a while in Nebraska where Chaney worked with his brother-in-law as a flag man in crop dusting.
A year later the Chaneys returned to Leadville and he went to work for the Climax Molybdenum Mine. After seven years of mining, Chaney moved on to Alpine Rock in Breckenridge where he worked for the next 21 years.He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and snowcatting and was especially into watching football and NASCAR.Chaney was a member of the Leadville Eagle’s Lodge #91 and the Masonic Lodge #97 in Florence. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother James Chaney; and nephew Jeffrey Chaney.Chaney is survived by his wife of nearly 31 years, Gayle, Leadville; son Jason Chaney, Denver; and daughter Denise (Rodney) Frausto, Leadville; grandchildren Ericka, Joseph and Makayla Frausto; brother Earl (Suzi) Chaney, Tennessee; sisters Betty (Jerry) Butler, Nebraska; Dolly (Bob) Robinson, Pueblo West; Geri Chaney, Leadville; and Debbie Hooten, Florence; nephews Chip Chaney, Texas; and Troy Robinson, Denver; nieces Kelly (Kert) Vansyoc, Missouri; Lori Butler, Nebraska; Reane (Kyle) Wedeking, Iowa; and Tara, Cheryl and Desiree Hooten, all in Florence.According to Chaney’s wishes, he was cremated and memorial services were held on April 2 at the Eagles Lodge in Leadville. Pastor Russell Baker officiated along with Corinthian Lodge #35 and the Eagles Lodge #91. Military
honors were provided by Fort Carson Army Base.Chaney’s ashes will be laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery in Leadville.

Stuart Satsky
Stuart Satsky, 60, died March 28 at his home near Minturn. Satsky was born on Aug. 15, 1944, in East Chester, Nova Scotia. His parents were the late Benjamin and Beatrice Levine Satsky. When Satsky was just 8 months old, he was adopted and moved, with his new family, to the U.S., settling in Newark, NJ. Satsky went to school in Newark, graduating from Weequahic High School. For a while, Satsky worked as a jewelry apprentice before he became interested in real estate. Eventually, he became a real estate appraiser.
On May 27, 1973, Satsky married the former Wendy Fisch in Livingston, N.J. In 1978, they moved to Minturn, where Satsky first worked for the Eagle County Trash Co. (Wendy taught at the Minturn Middle School and has met many Leadville teachers.) But his love was still real estate and he soon became the chief appraiser for the Eagle County government. He held this position from 1979 to 1988. In 1988, he started his own business, Citizens Appraisal & Home Measuring Service.Satsky enjoyed motorcycle riding, sky diving and coaching his children's various sports activities. He and Wendy made the most of their time together, swimming at the hot springs every chance they had.
Satsky was known as the "Honey Man" at the Minturn Market every summer for the past six years. Wendy would paint faces while he sold the best honey around.
Satsky was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Wendy; and son Benjamin Satsky, both in Minturn; daughter Danielle (Todd) Couch, Portland, Ore.; sister Shelby Kleimer, Edwards; granddaughter Madelaine Couch; mother-in-law Francine Fisch, Springfield, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held April 1 at the Vail Interfaith Chapel with Arthur Kleimer officiating. Interment was in Riverview Cemetery in Minturn. Pallbearers were Ben Satsky, Ben Kleimer, Brad Cohen, Todd Couch, Stephen Ast and John Weetman.
Arrangements were handled by Bailey Funeral Home in Leadville.

Richard Fabian Gallegos
Richard Fabian Gallegos, 36, died April 8, 2005, as the result of an auto accident early that morning. Gallegos was born in Leadville on Sept. 6, 1968, to Albert and Theresa (Gutierrez) Gallegos. He was baptized and received his first Holy Communion from the Annunciation Catholic Church of Leadville.
Gallegos attended school in Leadville, graduating from Lake County High School in 1986. He then went on to DeVry Institute of Technology in Phoenix, Ariz. After receiving his degree with honors (top 4 percent of his class) in Electronics Engineering, Gallegos moved to San Jose, Calif., where he worked for Cisco Systems for the next nine years.
In 1999, Gallegos moved back to Leadville where he started Mt. Massive Photo and, later, 2-Mile High Photo.
Gallegos loved the mountain life. He was an avid photographer and computer genius. He enjoyed reading (keeping up with the latest news by watching FOX news), football and baseball. He also enjoyed horseplaying with his niece and all children. You would often find him at the local ice skating rink.
Most recently, Gallegos was living in Arvada where he was studying for his certification in networking.
He had a heart of gold and will always be remembered as a genuinely nice guy.Gallegos is survived by his parents, Albert and Theresa, Arvada; brother Mike (Vivian) Gallegos, Leadville; sister Margarita Gallegos, San Mateo, Calif.; grandmother Josefa Gallegos, Mogote, Colo.; niece Alyssa Gallegos, Leadville; aunts Elaine (Harold) Mauldin, Kansas; Virginia Craig, Grand Junction; and Della (Rudy) Salazar, Pueblo; uncles Tomas (Daisy) Gallegos, Idaho Springs; John (Maude) Gutierrez, Grand Junction; Robert (Gloria) Gutierrez, Grand Junction; and Felix Gutierrez, Denver. Gallegos is also survived by his Godparents, Lawrence and Loretta Jaramillo, Leadville; as well as numerous cousins and his faithful companion Machintosh.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, April 15, at 11 a.m. at the Spirit of Christ Catholic Church, 7400 West 80th Ave., Arvada, CO. Memorial contributions may be made to High Country Bank, P.O. Box #1809, Leadville, CO 80461, for the Richard Fabian Gallegos Memorial Fund.
