Donnie Morgan
Donnie Morgan, beloved father of Annie and Michelle Morgan; son of Ebby and Olga Morgan of Leadville; brother of Thomas; and uncle of Kenneth, Sybil and Kevin Morgan, died Aug. 31, at his home after a long illness.Morgan was an accomplished electrician, furniture maker and artist. He is loved and will be sorely missed.There will be a memorial luncheon held on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the home of Mark and Sybil Rushing from 3 to 5 p.m., followed by a private interment.
Oliver Lewelling “Butch” Jeter
Oliver Lewelling “Butch” Jeter died suddenly Tuesday, Sept. 20, at St. Vincent Hospital in Leadville. Jeter was 53 years old. He was born in El Dorado, Kan., on June 6, 1952. His parents are Wanda M. Casida Jeter and the late Jack G. Jeter.Jeter went to school in Leon, Kan., until 1963 and then moved to Sedan, Kan., where he graduated from high school in 1970. Jeter then moved to Colorado where he attended the Automotive Diesel Technology School. He remained in Colorado and moved to Leadville, working as a contractor and rancher. Jeter loved the outdoors and enjoyed the simple life. Friends and family will miss seeing the big, burly, bearded and very gentle man in the Carharts.He was preceded in death by his father who died in 1988. Jeter is survived by his mother, Wanda M. Jeter, in Bartlesville, Okla.; two sisters, Cheryl Ann Jeter, in Dewey, Okla., and Karla (Terry) Siefers, in Ellinwood, Kan.; four nephews, Sam Siefers, in Houston, Texas, Tim Siefers, in Iraq, Ben Siefers, in Colby, Kan., and Toby Siefers in Salina, Kan.; and one niece, Laura Siefers, in Ellinwood, Kan.The Elk’s Lodge #236 in Leadville hosted a memorial service on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 11 a.m. where Jeter’s friends remembered him.Arrangements were handled by Bailey Funeral Home in Leadville.
Heraclio D. Marquez
Heraclio D. Marquez died Friday, Sept. 23, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Boise, Idaho. Marquez was 57 years old. Arrangements are pending with Bailey Funeral Home.
Mildred Zeleznikar Bond
Mildred Zeleznikar Bond, 75, formerly of Leadville, passed away at the home of her daughter; Kathy Conner, in Grand Junction.Bond was born to Eva Johanna Zeleznikar and John Zeleznikar on Nov. 18, 1929. Bond was very proud of her Slovenian heritage and passed many of the Slovenian traditions on to her children.Bond grew up in Leadville and married Raymond Bond, Jr. on Sept. 29, 1946. They lived in Leadville until four years ago when, because of health reasons, they moved to Salida and then to Grand Junction.Bond enjoyed doing things with her family. She also enjoyed cooking, hiking, fishing, camping and filling her yard with flowers. The things she missed most when leaving Leadville were her yard, flower beds and the beautiful mountains.Bond is survived by her daughters, Millie (Milo) Severson and Kathy (Mike) Conner, both of Grand Junction; sons, Bryan (Beckie) Bond of Salida and Gerald Bond of Castle Rock. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother Martin Zeleznikar of Canon City and sisters, Margaret Potter of Flint, Mich. and Ann MacLennan of Leadville.Bond was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and three brothers. Her husband Raymond passed away Jan. 3, 2004. They were married 57 years and three months.There will be a Mass of Christian burial Monday, 11 a.m., Oct. 10, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Leadville. Father Jay Jung will officiate and Larry Brady will sing accompanied by Beverly Pologar. After interment services, the family will receive friends at the parish hall.In lieu of flowers, friends can make memorial contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Olga S. Bost
Olga S. Bost, 93, died Sept. 7 at St. Vincent Hospital. She had been in declining health at home for several years.She was born in Leadville on June 12, 1912, to Joseph and Jessie (Calleari) Forman. She attended St. Mary’s School.She married Charles M. Bost on April 4, 1932. Bost was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, television, her home and her family.Bost was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, in 1995. She is survived by daughter, Charlene (Joe) Glavinick, Leadville; son Charles of Leadville; son Rudolph (Helen), La Crescenta, Calif.; three grandchildren, Monica Jean Glavinick and Michael and Cindy Bost; and numerous nieces and nephews.The rosary and Mass of Christian burial were held Sept. 10 at Annunciation Catholic Church. Father Jay Jung officiated; Fathers Leo Smith and James Kane concelebrated. Music was by Neil Reynolds and Joan Dawson. Pallbearers were Adolph Koroshetz, Pete Negrete, William Skala, Richard Miner, Marvin Moffett and Stephan Lani; honorary pallbearers were George Martelli and James McGeehan. Interment was at St. Joseph Cemetery followed by a reception at Annunciation Catholic Church parish hall.The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Catholic Community of Leadville or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Rita Mae Fabian
Rita Mae Fabian, 65, formerly of Leadville, died Sept. 26. She was born Nov. 29, 1939, in Meeker, Okla., to John and Emma (Wakley) Miller. Fabian married Leonard Fabian on Aug. 19, 1956. She is survived by her husband, Leonard; children, Robert Fabian of Canon City, Rebecca (Clarence) Schile of Dodge City, Kan., Diane (David) Everett of Canon City and Andrea (John) Grier of Albuquerque, N.M.; sisters, Barbara Rust of Colorado Springs and Lena Gall of Dallas, Texas; brother Bill (Ruth) Miller of Florence; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29 at Holt Family Funeral Home in Canon City. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept 29, at Holt Chapel of the Garden. Interment will follow at Mountain Vale Memorial Park. Holt Family Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
