Heraclio D. “Harry” Marquez
Heraclio D. “Harry” Marquez died Friday, Sept. 23, at the Veteran’s Hospital in Boise, Idaho. Marquez was 57 years old. He was born in Center on July 8, 1948. His parents were the late Joe and Albina (Lucero) Marquez. He was known as Harry, grew up in Leadville and graduated from Lake
County High School in 1967. Marquez went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam. After receiving an honorable discharge, Marquez came back to Leadville where he worked for the Climax Molybdenum Mine as an underground miner for 15 years. Marquez also worked various other odd jobs in Leadville. Marquez loved the mountains and enjoyed fishing in the lakes and streams. He also liked to draw.Marquez was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church in Leadville.Marquez was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Victor Marquez. He is survived by two children, Andrea (Jose) Rodriguez in Elko, Nev., and Darrel (Rosalie) Marquez in Gypsum; two sisters, Bertha (Gilbert) Medina in Leadville and Louise Marquez, in Denver. Marquez is also survived by his grandchildren Amanda Martinez, Kymberly Marquez and Gabriel and Adrian Rodriguez, as well as his former wife, Shirley Maestas.Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 10 a.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church. Father Jay Jung will officiate and Joan Dawson will sing accompanied by Jean Elliott.Marquez will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery with full military honors. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Medina, and Leo, Ernie and Robert Marquez. A reception will follow the interment at the Leadville Eagles Lodge.Arrangements are being handled by Bailey Funeral Home.
Linda Marie Martin
Linda Marie Martin died Saturday, Oct. 1, at St. Vincent Hospital in Leadville. Martin was 55 years old. She was born in Leadville on Dec. 22, 1949. Her parents were the late Bernel and Mary (Ossman) Martin.Martin went to school in Leadville and worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Vincent Hospital. She also worked for the Lake County School District as a custodian until her illness made her quit. While employed by the school district, Martin served as a union representative.Martin loved her family, especially the children. They were the highlight of her life. Family get-togethers were very special, and she loved the holidays when she could put all her energy into doing things for and with the children.Martin enjoyed taking rides in the mountains to appreciate the scenery and the changing autumn leaves. She also loved listening to music. Martin was preceded in death by her parents, one niece, Noreen Byrne, who died in 1999, and one nephew, Rick Byrne, who died in 2000. She is survived by her sisters, Carolyn (Ray) Byrne and Cora Lue (John) Byrne, both of Leadville; cousins Barbra (Henry) Saenz in Sugarland, Texas, Joe Sheffield in Denver, Ruth Dunbar in Manelius, N.Y. and Geri Chaney in Leadville. Martin is also survived by many other relatives including her extended family in Kansas.
Memorial services will be Saturday, Oct. 8, with the rosary being recited at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church in Leadville. Father Jay Jung will officiate, and Joan Dawson will sing accompanied by Jean Elliott.Martin will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery. Following the interment, the family will host a reception at the Senior Center in Leadville.Arrangements are being handled by Bailey Funeral Home.
William “Bill” Braucht
William “Bill” Braucht was born Saturday, March 23, 1929, in Northumberland Penn., to Norman and Marion (Shipe) Braucht. He died Wednesday, Oct. 19, at his residence in Cadiz, Ky. Braucht served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He lived in Leadville and worked as a miner at Climax from 1960 until 1990. Braucht was a Baptist and a member of the American Legion. Braucht is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Lou (Hargrove) Braucht of Cadiz, Ky. He is also survived by sons, Robert Allen Braucht of Aurora and William Wendell Braucht of Gypsum; daughter, Judith Ann Braucht of Cadiz, Ky.; brothers, Paul Braucht of Chestertown, Md., George Braucht of Clearfield, Pa. and David Braucht of Coburn, Pa. He also leaves nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Roberta Hubert.Visitation and services were held at Goodwin Funeral Home on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 21 and 22. Services were performed by Reverend Irvin Darnall. Pallbearers were Paul Braucht, George Braucht, Timmy Carr, James Bustamante, Eddy Braucht and David Hargrove.Memorial contributions can be made to Pennyroyal Hospice, 101 W. 18th St., Hopkinsville, Ky.
Stella L. Cain-Wicklund
Stella L. Cain-Wicklund, 81, born Jan. 29, 1924, passed away Oct. 15. Cain-Wicklund is survived by her husband, Charles Wicklund; children, Connie (John) Wilbar, Pueblo; Jim (Eileen) Cain, Canon City; Doug (Teresa) Cain, Lakewood; Carol (Stan) Lettrich, Elk Grove Village, Ill.; and Chris (Lynn) Cain of Lakewood; six grandchildren. She is also
survived by nephew Laurence L. Brady of Leadville. Cain-Wicklund was preceded in death by her first husband, William B. Cain. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice in her memory.
Donald Allen Green
Donald Allen Green was born Sept. 9, 1934, on a farm in Cade, Okla. He went to school in a one-room schoolhouse and graduated from high school in Bennington, Okla.After graduating, he played baseball on a professional minor-league team for two years. He almost played for the majors, but could not due to health reasons. Green lived most of his life in Leadville. He worked at Climax for 31 years at various jobs including hang-up timber man, shift boss and welding instructor. With the Climax mine closing, he went to work as a bartender at the Golden Burro. Later he worked with a partner operating Bare Bones Construction, which specialized in finish carpentry and remodeling. He then drove a bus for Copper Mountain until his retirement. Green enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was proud to be a life-time member of the Elks Club. He moved to Canon City in 1995 because of health reasons. There he enjoyed gardening, playing with his grandchildren, winning at Cripple Creek and spending time with family and friends. He passed away in Canon City on Oct. 28, after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Green, three daughters, Valerie Green (Curtis Harlow), Dawn Green and Linda (Jamie) Evans and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents J.O. and Ruby (McCuen) Green; four siblings, Emogene Browning, Carlyle Green, Varnum Green and Doris Herron; and one daughter, Cathy Green.A memorial service will be held at the Elks Lodge in Leadville on Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Elks Charity Fund, P.O. Pearl Luoma
Pearl Luoma, 68, died Oct. 28. She is survived by her
husband Fred of 50 years as well as her brother, Wesley Savory, Leadville; and sisters Myrna Burk of Leadville and Irene Kincade of Idaho Springs. She has four daughters: Linda Luoma of Owatonna, Minn.; Cindy Manuel of Winnemucca, Nev.; Maxine Luoma of Englewood (who is recognized for the long-term care she lovingly has given both parents); and Barbara Heitzenroder of Jacksonville, Fla. Four grandchildren are Tacoma and Shiloah Manual and Leilani and Laura Heitzenroder. In addition, she has two great-grandchildren, Kobe and Amber Ray, who brought her much happiness.Luoma is known to have been an exceptional housewife and mother. Her passions in life were her family, the Colorado Rocky Mountains, Leadville and animals (in particular, horses). She loved playing bingo. She was a member of the Jaycee-ettes, Lady Elks and Epsilon Sigma Alpha.She actively volunteered for the Call Help line in Leadville. For several years she actively participated as a volunteer for the Leadville Golden Agers. She had been employed by the Lake County School District as a school bus driver for approximately four years.Gifts in her memory may be given to the giver’s charity of choice.
