Margaret C. “Margie” Hendrickson
Margaret C. “Margie” Hendrickson died Monday, Nov. 6, at St. Anthony Hospital in Denver. She was 68 years old.
She was born in Leadville on Dec. 30, 1937. Her parents were the late Carl A. and Emma P. (Clark) Malmgren.
Margie, as she was known, went to school in Leadville and raised two children here. She worked for many years as a ward secretary for St. Vincent General Hospital. Her life revolved around her family and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There was no greater joy to her than spending time with them. Hendrickson enjoyed crocheting, reading and doing crossword puzzles. In more recent years, she was an avid player of her Game Boy.
Hendrickson was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Emma Jean Osborn; and three brothers, Roy and Pete Redmond and Carl G. Malmgren. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah (Eugene) Kulyan, Loveland; her son, Dale (Michelle) Billips, in Leadville; grandchildren, Jackie (Mike) Fedyk, Issaquah, Wash., and Shelby and William Billips, Leadville; great-grandson, Jasper Fedyk; sister Ellen (Merle) Staton, Canon City; nieces Chris (Rodney) Barnett and Donna (Dave) Livingston; nephews Jerry (Linda) Staton and Steve Osborn; and her aunt Ellen Jackson, Leadville. She is also survived by two beloved pets, Candy and Sasha.
Memorial services were held on Nov. 10 at the 1st United Presbyterian Church in Leadville. The Reverend Alison Bucklin officiated. Following the service, the family received friends at a reception hosted by St. Vincent Hospital.
Arrangements were handled by Bailey Funeral Home.

Thelma S. Cornella
Thelma S. Cornella died Monday, Jan. 23 at Heart of The Rockies Regional Medical Center in Salida. Cornella was 91 years old. She was born in Frontenac, Kan. on July 25, 1914. Her parents were the late Emilio and Mary (Brock) Scavezze.She married Dominic Cornella on Aug. 21, 1937. Moving to Leadville, the couple joined the established grocery business of Cornella’s West Side Grocery, which they operated until 1968. Cornella was a wonderful homemaker and took great pride in taking care of her family of four children and, later, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Cornella was devoted to her Catholic faith and also belonged to the Alter and Rosary Society.She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, as well as many other relatives.Cornella is survived by her children Jacqueline Heater in Minn., Donna (John) Cornella in Twin Lakes, Max (Terry) Cornella in Aurora and MaryLee (Bruce) Hix in Louisiana. Thelma’s long and fulfilling life enabled her to see nine grown grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren who were the joy of her life.Mass of Christian Burial will be Sat. Feb. 4 at 10:00 a.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church. Father Jay Jung, C.M. will officiate and Joan Dawson will sing accompanied by Jean Elliott.According to her wishes, Cornella was cremated. Private graveside services will take place and her ashes will be laid to rest in the family plot in St. Joseph Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Bailey Funeral Home.Those wishing may make memorial contributions to Annunciation Church, 609 Poplar St., Leadville, CO 80461.

Ida Mae Dick
Ida Mae Dick of Tucson, Ariz., passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Carondelet St. Mary’s Hospice in Tucson. She was 83 years old.She was born to Carlie and Mitte Smithwick on Jan. 29, 1922, in Darnell, La. She was married to Dueco Dick and to this union was born six children.She was a resident in Leadville from 1954 to 1956. She moved to Arizona in August, 1956, and resided there until her death.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1977, and two brothers, George and Luther. She is survived by three daughters: Shirley Crawford of Leadville; Betty Marsee of Oracle, Ariz., Gayle Dick of Tucson, Ariz.; three sons: Roy Lee and Paul (Melba) of Quitman, Ariz. and David (Janet) of Heber Springs, Ariz.; three brothers: Carlie Jr. and Billy of Ariz., Bernard of Texas; four sisters: Cora Lee Heath, Mary Porter, Gladys Porter and Lola Smith of Louisiana. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.Services were Friday, Jan. 27, at Evergreen Mortuary Chapel in Tucson with Pastor Gary Shrader of Cases Adobes Baptist Church officiating. Burial followed at Evergreen cemetery.

Anna Marie Koucherik
Anna Marie Koucherik died Friday, Feb. 10, at St. Vincent General Hospital. She was 68 years old. She is survived by three sons, Andy, Donnie and Mickie Koucherick; one brother, Jerry Cerise; and five grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J. Koucherik.The Rosary will be Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m., and Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, Feb. 16, at 10 a.m.,
both at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Arrangements are being handled by Bailey Funeral Home.

Stella L. Cornish
Paonia resident Stella L. Cornish passed away on Friday, Jan. 20, at Paonia Care and Rehab in Paonia. She was 70 years old.Cornish was born Stella L. Pottorff on Dec. 14, 1935, to Frank and Jessie (Stucker) Pottorff north of Paonia at the Converse Mine camp on the old Steven’s Gulch road. She spent her childhood in Paonia and attended school there.On Aug. 15, 1953, she married Richard “Dick” Cornish in Fort Riley, Kan. They moved to Leadville in 1955 where their three children, David Luck, Melody Lane and Douglas Scott were all born. In 1993, Cornish moved to Paonia where she made their home thereafter. Cornish was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and prepared many delicious meals for her family. She also loved to crochet.Those grateful to have shared in Cornish’s life include two sons: Luck (Diane) Cornish of Paonia and Doug (Debbie) Cornish of Cartersville, Ga.; and a sister Edith (Wayne) Fiadga of Leadville. She is further survived by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.Cornish was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1972; and daughter Melody Cornish.A funeral service was held on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Assembly of God Church in Paonia with Pastor Lee Ponder officiating. Burial followed at Bethlehem Cemetery in Paonia.Memorial contributions may be made in Cornish’s memory to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 24, Delta, CO 81416.Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

Ramona Celia Matlock
Ramona Celia Matlock, 62, was born November 7, 1943, in Espanola, New Mexico, to Joseph and Bessie (Martinez) Romero. She passed away at her home in Glenwood Springs on Feb. 1. Matlock moved to Colorado at a very early age and lived here her entire life. Matlock married Donald K. Matlock on March 26, 1977, in Glenwood Springs, and they had three children. She was a retired postmaster. She was a member of St. Anne’s Church in Grand Lake. Matlock was a loving wife and mother and will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband; her son, James Joseph of Ft. Collins; her two daughters, Dawn Michelle of Idaho Springs, and Trudy Ann of Denver; her brother Joseph (Kay) Romero of Colorado Springs and her sister Marie (Paul) Frey of Grand Junction. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Loretta Jackson. Services were Saturday, Feb. 4 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Glenwood Springs with Father Cliff McMillan officiating. Farnum-Holt Funeral Home, 405 W. 7th St., Glenwood Springs, Colorado (970) 945-5815 has been entrusted with the arrangements.
