Randolph Leroy “Randy” Quintana
Randolph Leroy “Randy” Quintana, also known as “Q,” age 48,
of Lakewood, passed away July 29 at his home, eight days
before his 49th birthday.
Quintana was born on Aug. 6, 1957, in Leadville, the son of
Tony Quintana and Cora (Fresquez) Quintana. He spent
his childhood in Leadville and attended school there. Quintana
was married to Lori Marti in 1976, which later ended in divorce.
Quintana received his GED and attended Denver Metro
College where he received his bachelor of arts in psychology
with the class of 2004. He was recognized for his
accomplishments in Chicano Studies and was also
recommended to the Dean’s List, which he was very proud
of and often boasted about.
Quintana enjoyed spending time with his family, hiking,
biking, listening to music and dancing. He was fascinated by
history and enjoyed watching the History Channel.
Quintana’s special gift in life was his ability to make friends
and make people laugh. Through life’s trials and blessings,
he brought humor, tenderness and much love to those
around him. He will be deeply missed by those who were
touched by his love.
Quintana leaves behind his mother; son, Antonio Quintana;
siblings, Lee Quintana, Carmen Mora, Louanna (Benny)
Vigil, and Lesley (Robert) Morales; aunt Mary Quintana; his
two godsons (nephews) Fernando Morales and Delano
Medina; nieces Yvonne Medina, Lucinda Mora, Monique
Vigil; nephews Dario Morales and Benny Vigil Jr.
Quintana was also survived by many great-nieces and greatnephews,
as well as many friends, especially Mary Briseno,
whom he enjoyed spending time with.
Quintana was preceded in death by his father, Tony
Quintana; his former wife and mother of his son; uncles,
aunts, cousins and his grandparents.
The vigil service and Rosary was held on Aug. 9 at
Annunciation Church, and Mass of Christian Burial in
celebration of Quintana’s life was held Thursday, Aug. 10,
also at Annunciation Church. Father Jay Jung officiated and
special music was provided by Quintana’s niece, Sarah
Warren of Montrose.
Quintana was laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Pallbearers were nephews and cousins, Dario and Fernando
Morales, Benny Vigil Jr., Joe Garcia, Bill Clouse and Joe
Armandariz. Honorary pallbearers were Randy’s greatnephews,
Jaylen Mora and Eleazar Medina.
Arrangements were handled by Bailey Funeral Home.
Jeffery Wayne (J.J.) Jones
Jeffery Wayne (J.J.) Jones, 42, passed away Aug. 15 at St.
Anthony’s Central Hospital in Denver.
Born April 18, 1964, in Delta, Jones lived his entire life in
Leadville.
He graduated from Lake County High School in 1983.
He is survived by his parents, Bill Jones of Montrose and
Linda Jones of Leadville, brother Eric of Nunn, and niece
Katie of Black River Falls, Wis.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Aug. 28, at 1 p.m.,
at the Evergreen Lakes picnic area above the Leadville Fish
Hatchery.
Shirley Sanchez
Shirley Sanchez, 54, of Salida, died in Pueblo at her youngest
daughter’s home on Aug. 15, after a short illness. She was born
in Leadville to Levi Sr. and Augustina Sanchez on July 19, 1952.
Sanchez enjoyed crocheting blankets for her family, trips to
Cripple Creek, collecting recipes for her friends to cook for
her, watching her oldest grandson
play sports and shopping for shoes. She was employed at Stop
N Save in Salida for nine years as an assistant manager.
She also worked at Don’s Foodtown as a checker. She
volunteered in her church as a secretary, teacher and youth
leader. She was loved by many family, friends and
coworkers. She was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt
and true friend.
She is survived by her daughters, Anita (Richard) Griego
and their children: Ricardo (Rica) Damian, Dominic and
Alyssa of Leadville; and her younger daughter Elena (Frank)
Solis and their children: Shonte, Frank, Junior (Man) and
Carlos of Pueblo. She is also survived by her longtime
friend, Tim Salisbury of Salida and her former spouse Carlos
Archuleta of Pueblo. Brothers and sisters include John
(Evangeline) Sanchez, Questa, N.M.; Dorothy (Robert)
Mascarenas, Pueblo; Alice Sanchez of Thornton; Levi Jr.,
Questa, N.M.; Floyd (Margie) Sanchez, Thornton; and many
nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother,
Leo Sanchez.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, Aug. 19, at the
Living Waters Assembly of God Church in Salida.

Frontier Hospice in Pueblo at 50 N. Main St., Suite 103W,
Pueblo, Colorado, 81003.
Walter S. Cinnamon
Funeral services for Walter S. Cinnamon will be held Friday,
Sept. 1, at 10 a.m. at the High Country Church of the
Nazarene in Buena Vista. Reverend Robert Hornwell and
Pastor Kenneth Rose will officiate.
Following a severe stroke on July 11, Cinnamon was
airlifted to the Denver area and later was moved to Medical
Center of Aurora where he spent the rest of his days in an
intensive care unit. Cinnamon died on Sunday, Aug. 27. He
was 66 years old.
Cinnamon was born in Camargo, Okla., on Oct. 18, 1939.
His parents were the late William S. and Ruth M. (Horrell)
Cinnamon.
Cinnamon lived in Camargo until age three when his
parents moved to California. The family returned to
Oklahoma when Cinnamon was five, due to his father’s
health.
Cinnamon graduated from Vici High School in Vici, Okla., in
1958, and on Feb. 10, 1959 he married the former Leota
Tolle in Arnett, Okla. Together the couple had four children.
Cinnamon gave his life to Christ and was baptized at the
age of 12. At that time he joined the Vici Church of the
Nazarene in Vici, Okla. He remained a member of this
church until leaving Vici in 1962. He has actively attended
the 1st Baptist Church of Winnemucca, Nev., for the last
five years and in the summer attended High Country
Church of the Nazarene in Buena Vista.
Cinnamon worked various jobs in Oklahoma until hiring on
at the Climax Molybdenum Mine, near Leadville, in
November of 1961. He moved his family to Buena Vista the
following spring. The couple lived in Buena Vista until 1989
when they moved to California where Cinnamon worked in
a gold mine. They then moved to Golconda, Nev., in 1995,
again working in another gold mine. After suffering a severe
injury in the mine, Cinnamon was forced to retire.
From 2003 until the present, the couple spent their winters
in Nevada and their summers in Buena Vista.
Cinnamon was preceded in death by his parents; one
daughter, Cherly Kay Cinnamon; four brothers, Vernon
Walker, Wilbur Walker, Harrison Cinnamon and Tommy
Cinnamon; and four sisters, Mae Maddox, Mary Trout,
Margaret Thompson and Edith Meador.
Cinnamon leaves behind his wife of 47 years in Buena
Vista; sons William Silas Cinnamon, Arnett, Okla.; Jerry
Don (Darlene) Cinnamon, Harmon, Okla.; and Ronald
Eugene (Brenda) Cinnamon, Aurora; one sister, Nola
Sampson, Oklahoma City; and one brother, Charles
(Phyllis) Walker, Oklahoma City. Cinnamon is also survived
by eight grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews,
cousins and friends.
Cinnamon will be laid to rest in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in
Buena Vista. Pallbearers will be Silas Cinnamon, Jerry
Cinnamon, Ronald Cinnamon and James Cinnamon, Shane
Bowers and Eric Phillips. Honorary pallbearers are John
Jones, Gary Bowman and Gerald Bowman.
Following the interment, the family will receive friends at a
reception hosted by the High Country Church of the
Nazarene.
Arrangements are being handled by Bailey Funeral Home in
Leadville.
A memorial service is planned for a later date in
Winnemucca, Nev.

Stephen M. Began
Stephen M. Began, 50, died suddenly Saturday, Aug. 26, at
Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colo.
Began was born on Jan. 11, 1956, in Detroit, Mich., to
Stephen A. and Julia (Klobuchar) Began. He moved to
Minnesota and was a graduate of Cherry High School. He
was a U.S. Army veteran. Began worked in construction for
many years and had been a resident of Colorado for the
past 25 years.
Began was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived
by his brother, Dennis (Marilyn) Began, of Farmington,
Mich., and his sister, Susan L. Began, of Clinton Township,
Mich.; two nieces, four nephews, one great-niece, one
great-nephew, one aunt and many cousins and friends.
Memorial Mass was held on Friday, Sept. 1, at 11 a.m. at
Resurrection Catholic Church in Eveleth, Minn. The
Reverend Fr. Joseph Valliyamthadathil officiated. Interment
was in Eveleth Cemetery.
