RAWLINGS:
Austin Lee Rawlings, 84, of Greeley died Feb. 1, 2003, at Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado.
He was born Sept. 21, 1918, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Austin T. Rawlings and Ruth M. (Topper) Rawlings.
He served in the Army Medical Corps during World War II.
He married Velma Gregory Oct. 12, 1947, in Greeley. He moved from Tacoma, Wash., to Greeley in 1952.
Mr. Rawlings worked as the senior dispatcher for the Colorado State Patrol for 26 years and retired in 1979.
He also worked as a greeter for Wal-Mart for four years and was a school crossing guard for numerous years with School District 6.
He enjoyed woodworking and selling his crafts at crafts shows. He loved to watch and go to stockcar races. He also enjoyed watching baseball and going fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Velma Rawlings of Greeley; son Larry Rawlings and wife Kim of Estes Park; daughter Shirley Bauer and husband Rick of Greeley; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Austin Lee Rawlings Jr.; and a sister, Edith Smith.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. today at Allnutt Funeral Service-Macy Chapel.
Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Garden in Greeley.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care or Bethel Baptist Church in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 702 13th St., Greeley, 80631.

SLOAN:
Olive Scott Sloan, 98, a longtime resident of Johnstown, died Jan. 28, 2003, at Life Care Center in Longmont.
She was born March, 22, 1904, in McVille, Mich., to William James Scott and Agnes Jane Richmond Scott. She moved to Greeley in 1920 and graduated from Industrial High School, now University High. She attended Colorado State Teachers College, then taught third and fourth grades at Ashton School and in Bennett, Colo.
She married John Henry Sloan on July 10, 1926, in Loveland. The couple lived on a dairy farm near Johnstown and later moved into Johnstown, where she lived for 34 years.
She moved to Hover Manor in Longmont in 1993 and lived in Longmont until her death.
Mrs. Sloan was a member of the Friendly Neighbors Extension Club, the Johnstown Home and Garden Club, the Johnstown Woman's Club, the Senior Citizens and Eastern Star. She was a member of the Johnstown United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed sewing, gardening and flower arranging. She was an avid reader and did water and oil paintings, some of which are on display at Hover Manor.
She was very proud of her Scottish ancestry and was able to visit Scotland and her ancestral home.
She is survived by three sons, Lawrence E. Sloan of Brighton, Donald Scott Sloan and wife Barbara of Johns-town, and Ronald Scott Sloan and wife Joanne of Loveland; a daughter, Annebelle Cook and husband John of Greeley; 19 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1973; daughter Wanda L. Krebill; daughter-in-law Caroline Sloan; two grandchildren; a great-grandson; and sisters Mabel Tagert, Grace Splan, Ella Brood, Marion McCleary and Gladys Billington.
Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Howe Mortuary in Longmont.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Johns-town. Burial will follow in the Johnstown Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Glen A. Jones, M.D., Library, P.O. Box 457, Johnstown, 80534, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

SMITH:
Marjory M. Smith, 85, of Greeley, passed away Feb. 1, 2003, at Bonell Good Samaritan Center in Greeley.
She was born Nov. 14, 1917, in Rochester, N.Y., to Gustave and Anna (Hall) Meng.
Mrs. Smith graduated from the University of Rochester with a degree in chemistry. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society.
She moved to Colorado from Rochester in 1969.
While in Rochester, her primary efforts involved recreational therapy for the mentally challenged patients of all ages at the State Hospital.
Mrs. Smith worked as a volunteer in the American Red Cross for more than 30 years and served on the Board of Directors of the Greeley Chapter. In Greeley, her Red Cross activity was centered around North Colorado Medical Center, where she worked at the surgical desk.
She is a charter member and a life member of the Assistance League of Greeley. Her primary contribution included Brailling books for blind children and tutoring foreign children.
Survivors include her husband, Howard E. Smith, of Greeley; sons Lawrence of Solana Beach, Calif., Gordon of Eaton, Gregory of Fort Collins; brother Father Robert Meng of East Rochester, N.Y.; sister-in-law Mildred Wischmuyer of Rochester, N.Y.; niece Carol Wischmuyer and nephew Donald Wischmuyer.
At her request, a private service will be conducted in New York by her brother, Father Meng.
Inurnment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rochester, N.Y.
Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the UNC Foundation for the Marjory M. Smith Scholarship Fund, in care of Judy Farr Center, Box 20, Greeley, 80639.
Northern Colorado Crematory, Inc. in Greeley is in charge of arrangements.

STOCK:
Ethel L. Stock, 74, of Blue Eye, Mo., formerly of Loveland, died of cancer Jan. 29, 2003.
She was born Feb. 3, 1928, in Jacksonville, Ill. She married Donald Stock on May 25, 1946, in Davenport, Iowa. He preceded her in death.
She worked at Hewlett-Packard in Loveland and retired in 1994.
She lived in Loveland from the 1970s to 1995, when she moved to Blue Eye, Mo.
She is survived by four sons, Chuck Stock, Terry Stock, Jeff Stock and Chris Stock; a daughter, Pat Carlson; 13 brothers and sisters; 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Stewart and Walter Stewart and a grandson, Roger Stock.
Services were Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Blue Grass, Iowa.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 325 W. Lauretta St., Blue Grass, Iowa, 52726.
Bentley Funeral Home in Wilton, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements.

TAYLOR:
Donald Taylor of Loveland. Private graveside services will be held. Memorials may be made to the Habitat for Humanity in care of the Viegut Funeral Home.
Donald Burdette Taylor, 83, of Loveland, died Feb. 2, 2003, at North Shore Health Care Facility after a long illness.
He was born March 10, 1919, on the family farm near Camden, Ohio, to Virgil W. Taylor and Julia Rebecca Beall Taylor. He moved with his family to Fort Collins in 1921. He grew up there and attended local schools and participated in several athletic programs. He graduated from Colorado A&M, now Colorado State University, in 1941, with a degree in civil engineering. He received his master’s degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.
Mr. Taylor was a second lieutenant in the Army Air Corps during World War II and served as a meteorologist in the Azores.
He married Margaret Ellen Reid on March 27, 1945, in Fort Collins.
After the war, he worked in the civil services for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation and the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1977 as a GS-13.
He and his wife raised their five children while serving in Denver, Juneau, Alaska, Seattle, Wash., Colorado Springs and Wiesbaden, Germany. He moved to Loveland in 1985.
Mr. Taylor was an active volunteer for the Girl Scouts, PTA, Friendship Force, Habitat for Humanity, and the Loveland Valentine re-mailing program. He also was active in every church he was a member of, serving as Sunday school superintendent, teacher, planting and building chairman, and wherever he was needed. Through his enjoyment of construction projects, both big and small, he helped many community members wherever he lived.
He is survived by his children, Nancy E. Jackson of El Paso, Texas, Charlotte T. Pirnat and her husband Martin of Durango, Rebecca T. Paulson and her husband Tom of Loveland, Donald Reid Taylor of Arvada, and Tamara Taylor Hudson of Loveland; his brother Delbert Taylor of South Dakota; and his sister Dorothy Berniece Wilmott of Richmond, Wash.; six grandchildren, Burdetta E. Jackson, Michael Reid Pirnat, Joseph T. Paulson, T. Cole Paulson, Kevin James Taylor, and John Taylor Hudson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Harry Dale Taylor, and his wife Margaret.
Private graveside services for the family will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity in care of the Viegut Funeral Home, 2893 N. Monroe Ave., Loveland, 80538.

THORSON:
John L. Thorson of Loveland. Memorial service 10 a.m. Friday at Allnutt Funeral Service-Hunter Chapel. Cremation will be conducted.
John L. Thorson, 37, of Loveland died Feb. 3, 2003, at his home. He was subject to seizures.
He was a carpenter and enjoyed other activities relative to the construction industry.
He also enjoyed fishing, billiards and drawing. He had lived in Loveland for 11 years but had spent the last two years in Washington state. He moved back to Loveland last July.
He is survived by his parents Vernon and Laurie Thorson of Loveland; brothers Dwight and Tim Thorson of Fort Collins; and sisters Sherri Wargin of Minneapolis, Minn., and Paula Fletcher of Houston, Texas.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Allnutt Funeral Service Hunter Chapel. A private family viewing will be held.
Cremation will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Resurrection Fellowship Building Fund in care of Allnutt Funeral Service.

BALLINGER:
Loveland Fire Department Capt. Marty Ballinger. Husband of Carri Ballinger. Son of Walter and Shirley Ballinger. Services 10 a.m. Thursday, May 29, at First Christian Church. Viewing from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church. Interment Loveland Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Paige-Jackson Educational Fund in care of Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home, 1102 N. Lincoln Ave., Loveland, 80537.
Marty Ballinger, 40, of Loveland, died May 24, 2003, at Poudre Valley Hospital from complications resulting from heart surgery.
Marty was born Aug. 25, 1962, in Loveland, to Walt and Shirley Ballinger. He graduated from Thompson Valley High School in 1981. Marty married Carri Bettger on Aug. 4, 1984. They enjoyed 19 years of marriage together.
Marty was a second-generation firefighter, following the steps of his father. He became a volunteer firefighter with Loveland Fire and Rescue Department in 1983 and was hired as a career fire engineer in 1987. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1995 and captain in 1999. Marty served as captain of the "A" shift. Loveland Fire and Rescue members were honored to serve with Capt. Ballinger. He was captain, leader and friend.
Marty loved spending time with family and friends and enjoyed serving and helping others. He was a devoted father, husband, firefighter, brother and son.
Marty loved to spend time with his daughter "Peanut" and son "Little Man."
Marty's compassion to assure others having joy in their lives gave joy to his life. He served others, friend or stranger, before serving himself.
Marty is survived by his wife Carri; daughter Paige; son Jackson; mother and father, Walt and Shirley Ballinger; brother Scott and wife Denise of Loveland; sister Amy Bonner and husband Tim of Wellington; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. All will miss him greatly.
Services for Marty will be 10 a.m., Thursday at First Christian Church, 2000 N. Lincoln Ave. Viewing will be from 1 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at First Christian Church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Paige-Jackson Educational Fund in care of Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home, 1102 N. Lincoln Ave., Loveland, 80537.

CHAPPELL:
Edward J. Chappell, age 38, of Fort Collins, formerly of Loveland. Cremation is planned and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 30, at Front Range Baptist Church, 625 E. Harmony Road, Fort Collins.
Edward J. "Ed" Chappell, age 38, of Fort Collins, formerly of Loveland, died on May 26, 2003. Cremation will be conducted, and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Friday, May 30, 2003, at Front Range Baptist Church, 625 E. Harmony Road, Fort Collins.
Edward James Chappell was born on Aug. 5, 1964, in Lincoln, Neb., to Edward Everette and Virginia Lee Geeslin Chappell. His family moved to Loveland when he was 5 years old.
He married LeLoni May Williams on Sept. 16, 1995, in Loveland. Ed and Loni settled in Fort Collins six years ago.
Ed's life's work was as an auto and truck mechanic, most recently for Spradley Barr Ford. He could fix anything on wheels, but his heart was in the open spaces.
His children were the most important part of his life, and he participated in whatever they were doing, including coaching soccer, camping and whatever else came up.
Ed lived life to the best of his ability, with his kind heart and caring attitude. Many friends benefited from his constant willingness to help others.
Survivors include his wife, LeLoni; his daughter, Alexandria Brock; and his son, Kaleb Chappell. He's also survived by his parents, Ed and Virginia Chappell of Loveland; four sisters, Rachel Chappell of Loveland, Patty Goodyear of Lincoln, Neb., Mary Chappell and Karen Chappell, both of Loveland; a brother, Robert Chappell also of Loveland; and numerous nieces, nephews, a great-niece and a great-nephew.
The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Ed Chappell memorial fund in care of Goes Funeral Care, 3665 Canal Drive, Suite E, Fort Collins, Colo. 80524.

CLYNCKE:
Helen Clyncke, 93, of Poway, Calif., and formerly of Loveland died May 23, 2003, in Poway.
She was born April 10, 1910, in Boulder to Alfred and Amanda Green Erickson.
She married Ralph Clyncke on Aug. 14, 1929, in Littleton.
She was a homemaker. She moved from Boulder to Loveland in 1970. She moved to Poway in 1995 to live with her son and daughter-in-law.
She is survived by a son, Donald R. Clyncke of Poway; a brother, Woodrow Erickson; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Clyncke, and sisters Lily Worthing and Martha Williamson.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mountain View Memorial Park, with the Rev. Mark Peterson of Calvary Lutheran Church officiating.
Arrangements were handled by Crist Mortuary in Boulder.

GERINGER:
Barbara Ray "Bobby" Geringer, 65, of rural Johnstown died May 29, 2003, at her home.
She was born Jan. 10, 1938, in Greeley to Glenn and Edva Gigoux Blank. She grew up in eastern Colorado and graduated from Joes High School in 1955.
She married Donald Geringer on Oct. 1, 1960, in Wheatland, Wyo.
She stayed home to raise her children until 1973, when she went to work for Safeway stores. She started as a caddy and then worked as a retail clerk up to her retirement in July 1993. She was known as an outstanding clerk for Safeway at the Broomfield store.
Since her retirement, she and her husband spent life in their recreational vehicle and began seriously traveling about three years ago when Mr. Geringer retired. They spent the past three winters in Mesquite, Nev.
Mrs. Geringer was a member of the United Church of Christ of Wheatland and the Good Sams Club. She also was a member of United Food and Commercial Workers No. 7.
She enjoyed crocheting, working jigsaw puzzles and collecting frogs and glass bells from their travels. She was an avid reader and a musician. She played the organ and accordion. She and daughter Donna took accordion lessons together, and she taught her son, Russell, to play the organ. She enjoyed a good polka.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Geringer; a son, Russell Glenn Marr and wife Elizabeth of Broomfield; two daughters, Glenda Ann McFaddin and husband Steve of Thornton, and Donna Ray Geringer of Windsor; a sister, Glenzola Kempf of Glendale, Ariz.; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Lou Blank Geringer.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Adamson Memorial Windsor Chapel.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Bethel Lutheran Church, 328 Walnut in Windsor
Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Windsor.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Poudre Valley Hospital Foundation for the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Fund in care of Adamson Memorial Windsor Chapel, 429 Main St., Windsor, 80550.
