CARTER:
Lynda Kay Carter, 61, left her earthly home and went on to be with her Lord and Savior on Dec. 3, 2004, at Ogallala Hospital in Ogallala, Neb.
Lynda was born April 21, 1943, in Pawhuska, Okla., to George and LaVonc Brower. In her youth her family traveled a lot due to her father’s various jobs in construction. Although Lynda graduated in Omaha, Neb., she caught her future husband’s eye, Richard Harold Carter, when she attended Cache La Poudre High School in LaPorte, Colo. Following graduation, Lynda was baptized at the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ in Bellvue by Homer Wolf. Richard and Lynda were soon married in Rist Canyon and worked on the Willis dairy farm in Timnath, Colo. They soon had two daughters, Shari and Denise.
Richard and Lynda then formed a partnership with the Sells in 1967 to start East Glade Dairy near Masonville. Lynda worked with Dr. Wendell L. Ball as his receptionist for 13 years and made many friendships along the way. Richard and Lynda along with their daughters started a dairy of their own on the Carter homestead in Bellvue in 1977.
Lynda enjoyed assisting at Skyline Bible Camp and traveling the country as “pit crew” for Joyce’s endurance riding contests in the summers. The Carter family was blessed by being given care of a 2-month-old infant boy, who they named William, in June 1979. Soon after their new son came to join the family his kidneys failed. Richard had to stay at home to tend to the dairy, and Lynda lovingly stayed and cared for William as he endured his illness at University Hospital in Denver. She was able to bring William home for visits by learning how to give William the pioneering portable dialysis treatments at home. Following William’s successful transplant at the age of 5, she assisted with the dairy and home schooled William for a few years.
She enjoyed helping with Meadowlark Church of Christ youth groups, 4-H, and at the Greeley Saddle Club in the show office, rooting for not only her children and granddaughter but others as well. For a few years Lynda worked with her daughters collecting milk weights and samples at various dairies for DHIA tests. She then went on to work for Builders Square as a night stocker and later at Alterra Sterling House, an elder care facility.
Lynda had to retire due to the start of several health problems, including lupus. Richard and Lynda soon found a wonderful community to retire to in 2001 at Lewellen, Neb., where she enjoyed many visits from their friends and family. Richard and Lynda are members of the Ogallala Church of Christ. Lynda enjoyed fishing with the love of her life, Richard.
When someone became a friend to Lynda they became a true friend for life. Lynda will always be remembered for her love of the Lord and her selfless giving and helping of elderly people and anyone who needed a helping hand. Lynda especially loved her grandchildren, Sarah, Ashley, Jacob, Thomas and Cheyenne, her many dear friends and family.
Lynda is survived by her husband, Richard Harold Carter of Lewellen; daughter Shari Lavon Stroup and husband Ronald and son Thomas of Fort Collins; daughter D. Denise Coleman and children Sarah, Ashley and Jacob of Fort Collins; son William Thomas Carter of Lewellen and his daughter Cheyenne of LaPorte; her brother Larry Brower and wife Pam of Bullhead City, Ariz., and his family; and sister Doris King and husband BK from Fort Worth, Texas, and her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bohlender Funeral Chapel followed by interment at Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins. A memorial gathering will then follow at the Bellvue Grange hall. Another memorial will take place 10 a.m. Saturday at the Ogallala Church of Christ in Ogallala.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Lynda’s honor to Pleasant Valley Church of Christ Building Fund, Mountain States Children’s Home or Colorado Christian Services in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel, 121 W. Olive St., Fort Collins, 80524.

FERREE:
Sandra J. Ferree of Loveland. Funeral services 3 p.m. Saturday, December 11, at First Christian Church with the Rev. Thomas Webster officiating. Viewing 1:30-3 p.m. prior to services. Cremation to be conducted following services. Memorial contributions to American Diabetes Foundation in care of Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home.
Sandra J. Ferree, 55, of Loveland died Dec. 6, 2004, at her home of complications of diabetes.
She was born May 30, 1949, in Dayton, Ohio, to Robert F. and Juanita C. (Swick) Ferree. She married John D. Rohrbach on July 24, 1972, in Los Angeles, Calif.
Sandra Ferree was a rare person, patient, funny and energetic. She had a spark and light in her eyes and a warm personality that people seemed to just want to be near. She was a daughter, mother, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend whose influence will be felt for many, many years to come.
Sandra never got lost, never took a wrong turn. To her, there were no wrong turns, only different adventures than she had planned. She made friends easily, because she never met a stranger; she could and would strike up a conversation with anyone. She was a free spirit and a free thinker, taking chances - sometimes the results were good, sometimes not - but never being afraid to go where her heart would lead. She had several career changes, ranging from flight attendant to nurse, and her hobbies and interests included cooking, traveling, shopping, figure skating, music and meeting new people.
She was a nurse for some 27-plus years. This was an excellent choice, because she loved people, and helping them in that capacity was one of the things she was most proud of. She earned her R.N., B.S.N. and master’s degrees. She had worked in nearly every hospital department at some time during her career, ranging from labor and delivery to emergency room to surgery and everything in between. Sandra was also very active in the hospice and home health-care arenas, and this avenue lent her reassuring nature to making people feel comfortable and more at ease with their particular situations with the care of their loved ones.
Later in her career, Sandra could no longer work in a patient-care capacity due to a back injury. Lifting and being on her feet for hours at a time were too painful, and it didn’t take her long to figure out what to do next. She had always told her family that she thought she would make an awesome teacher, and she found out that she was right when she was given a chance to try her hand at shaping the health-care providers of the next generation by becoming an instructor of CNA students.
Watching her embark on this new adventure was like watching a baby bird learn how to fly, and before long she had found a new passion. Having her multifaceted experience was a huge asset, as it seemed she had a story for every situation, many of which were touching, or funny, or just plain weird. Her know-how spanned the broadest of spectrums, and she was able to impart more wisdom and knowledge than any book could provide. Her crowning achievement in this aspect of her career was to be nominated for Faculty Member of the Year by her colleagues at College America. She truly felt it was an honor just to be nominated. She was a professional giant who leaves large footprints for her students to follow.
Sandra was no different in her personal life. She was passionate about family and friends and always willing and available to listen to or give advice to anyone who needed her. Her vibrant energy was at the heart of family activities, leading us on many a new adventure, down many a winding road. Our lives are better because of her, and loving her and being loved by her puts us in a very elite group of people. She could turn something as ordinary as going to the grocery store into an event, and she always brought class and sophistication to special occasions. She had a friendly manner and a way of putting the best face on any given situation. Her energy and love were much of the reason she was such a phenomenal mother who raised two wonderful children into adulthood, and she remained very active in their lives.
The joy in Sandra’s life during her last four years was her relationship with her granddaughter, Hannah. This little girl’s arrival was looked to with much anticipation in 2000 by all the family, but especially by Sandra. She was there at her birth and every day thereafter. Never unavailable, she would drop everything at the drop of a hat to be able to spend time with little Hannah. Her wacky and fun personality was a perfect fit for grandmotherhood, and she was always eager to listen to incoherent epics told in toddler-ese or bestow her unique brand of comfort to scraped knees or bumps on the head. Protective and loving, there was never a bad time for her only grandchild to visit. It seemed Sandra was born to be a grandma. Hannah is like her in many ways, in her 4-year-old, free-spirit kind of way.
She moved many times during her life and touched many more lives than we will ever know, many of whom probably never even knew her name, people whose days were made a little better with a smile or kind word from Sandra’s lips. They were the people near her in the line at the grocery store, the people she would meet while on walks near her home, the children at the playground she would take her granddaughter to. Her passing was sudden and peaceful for her but traumatic for everyone who loved her; and even though we were all very glad to have the pleasure of knowing her, her life was too short. Her son has said it best: The brightest flames seem to burn out twice as fast. She will be missed and loved always.
Sandra moved to Loveland in 1998 from Indian Shores Beach, Fla. She was a member of Roller Skating Rinks of America, First Christian Church Bell Choir, and the American Diabetes Association. She was a member of First Christian Church in Loveland.
She is survived by her ex-husband, John D. Rohrbach, with whom she remained good friends; son Nathan Rohrbach and wife Erin of Loveland; daughter Vanessa Rohrbach of Loveland; granddaughter Hannah Rohr-bach of Loveland; mother Juanita C. Catherine; sisters Wanda Cooper of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and Wilma Clark of Vandalia, Ohio; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father; her brother, Robert L. Ferree; and a sister, Holly A. Noel.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, with the Rev. Thomas Webster officiating. Cremation will be conducted after the services.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association in care of Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home, 1102 N. Lincoln Ave., Loveland, 80537.
