HELZER:
Barbara Jane Helzer, 69, of Fort Collins died Dec. 9, 2004, at Poudre Valley Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born at home Feb. 8, 1935, in Fort Collins to Paul and Pauline Buderus. She attended local schools and graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1953.
She married Bob Helzer, whom she’d known since grade school, on Feb. 5, 1956, and had three sons, Dan, Jerry and Randy, who all live in Fort Collins.
Mrs. Helzer worked at Safari Supper Club and the Fort Collins Country Club in the ’60s and ’70s, and later worked as a furrier for S. Brody Furs. Eventually she opened Choice City Furs, which she owned and operated for several years.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed traveling with Bob and spending time with her mother, Pauline.
She is survived by her husband, Bob; her mother, Pauline Buderus; sons Dan and wife Kim, Jerry and wife Jane, and Randy and wife Becky; brother Ron Buderus; and seven grandchildren, Jason, Jared, Angie, Rachel, Colby, Jake and Joe; and a great-granddaughter, Kayla.
She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Buderus, and her sister, Beverly Sherman.
A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 1200 S. Taft Hill Road, followed by a reception at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church.
Resthaven Mortuary handled arrangements.

HODGES:
Robert “Bob” Hodges, 71, of Ozark, Ark., formerly of Loveland, died Dec. 7, 2004, at his home following an extended illness.
He was born Jan. 11, 1933, in Loveland. He graduated from Loveland High School.
He was a member of the Colorado National Guard and joined the U.S. Army in 1953. He served two years, spending a year in Italy.
He was a journeyman carpenter and operated service stations in Fort Collins until moving to Ozark in 1976. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural letter carrier until his retirement in 1998.
He was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Johnstown, where he served as Sunday school superintendent.
He enjoyed gardening, reading and the beauty of nature. He had a unique sense of humor and a philosophy of life that was an inspiration to all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathy; three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Paula Ann Hodges of San Angelo, Texas, Patrick and Susan Hodges of Fort Collins, and Craig and Paula Diane Hodges of Ozark; a daughter, Jennifer Stroud of Flagstaff, Ariz.; sisters Bernadine Carson of Greeley, Elsie Yockey of Meeteetse, Wyo., and Leota Bauer of Gig Harbor, Wash.; sisters-in-law, Shirley Huls of Lincoln, Neb., and Phyllis Andrew of Gaston, Ore.; brothers-in-law James Yockey and Richard Andrew; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin; a sister, Melba Wetzler; and brothers-in-law Henry Wetzler, John Bauer and Larry Huls.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark. The Rev. Ted Darling will officiate.

LAYLAND:
Jerry Layland of Loveland. Cremation has been completed. Services will be scheduled at a later date.
Jerry Layland, 52, of Loveland died Dec. 5, 2004, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 26, 1951, in Fort Collins to Robert and Beverly Robertson Layland. He graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1970.
He married Doneta Whicker on Nov. 26, 1970, and moved to Loveland.
Mr. Layland was employed as a house painter for many years. He enjoyed going to garage sales and flea markets and tinkering with broken items. He had been helping his wife fix up a retirement home in Nebraska.
His special love was reptiles. His home was never without either a snake, alligator or turtle. He lived to go on his annual hunts to New Mexico and Arizona. His humor will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Doneta Layland of Loveland, and various in-laws, nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Cindy Hay and Gale Collins.
In accordance with his wishes, immediate cremation was conducted. Services will be scheduled at a later date.
Viegut Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

MIZUNO:
Mitsuo Mizuno of Loveland, formerly of Japan. Memorial services (Gongyo services) at noon Wednesday at Viegut Funeral Home. Cremation has been completed.
Mitsuo Mizuno, 73, of Loveland died Dec. 10, 2004, at McKee Medical Center in Loveland.
He was born March 3, 1931, in Tokyo, Japan, to Kintkro and Fujie Iwata Mizuno. He grew up in Japan, and he and his wife, Tomoko, were married March 18, 1958, in Yokohama, Japan.
Mr. Mizuno was a house painter for many years in Japan. He moved to the United States from Japan eight years ago and came to Loveland six years ago.
He loved walking and painting.
Mr. Mizuno is survived by his wife, Tomoko Mizuno of Loveland; a daughter, Hiromi Jones and husband Jeff of Loveland; and two grandchildren.
Cremation has been completed.
Gongyo memorial services will be at noon Wednesday at Viegut Funeral Home, 1440 N. Boise Ave., Loveland.

SKOWRON:
Adolf Skowron of Loveland. Funeral services 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 9 at the Abundant Life Tabernacle in Johnstown, 1,000 County Acres Drive. Interment Loveland Burial Park.
Adolf J. Skowron, 75, of Loveland died Dec. 5, 2004, at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins.
He was born June 2, 1929, in Ciep-Towka, Poland, to Matthaus Skowron and Emilie Lulis. He married Herta Marske on June 23, 1956, in Chicago, Ill.
Mr. Skowron was a carpenter and home builder in the Loveland and Fort Collins area for many years. He moved to Loveland in 1977 from Illinois.
He lived his life in spirit and truth in Christian fellowship.
He is survived by his wife, Herta Skowron of Loveland; daughters Barb Skowron of Loveland and Karen Samora and husband Lonnie of Arvada; brothers Ewald Skowron of Loveland, Gus Skowron of Johnstown, and Richard Skowron and John Skowron, both of Hickory Hills, Ill.; sisters Olga Milewski of Hickory Hills, Marianne Marske of New Lenox, Ill., and Berta Nitz of Burbank, Ill.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Emil Skowron.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Abundant Life Tabernacle in Johnstown, the Rev. Lonnie Samora officiating.
Burial will be at Loveland Burial Park.
Arrangements were handled by Viegut Funeral Home.

SPIERING:
Betty Ann Spiering of Loveland. Celebration of Life service 11 a.m. Saturday, December 11, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Cremation will be conducted after services. Memorial contributions to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Memorial Fund or Betty Ann Spiering Memorial Fund in care of Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home.
Betty Ann Spiering, 48, of Loveland died Dec. 6, 2004, at the McKee Medical Center Hospice Care Unit in Loveland.
She was born April 12, 1956, in Gravette, Ark., to John Stricklin and Betty Lou Patton. She had 14 years of education.
She was employed in Denver by Lennox Industries for 15 years. She moved to Loveland in June 2003 from Arvada.
She married Larry Spiering on March 31, 1990, in Golden, Colo.
She enjoyed being a Girl Scout troop leader in Loveland.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Loveland. She loved the art of scrapbooking and made several scrapbooks of weddings and vacations and special events for family members and friends. She was always a caring and very giving person. She was an excellent cook, loved shopping, and enjoyed the mountains and flowers.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Spiering of Loveland; a son, Brandon Spiering of Loveland; a daughter, Rachel Spiering of Loveland; a brother, John Stricklin and wife Linda Lane of Overland Park, Kan.; nephew Russell Stricklin of Overland Park; and niece Alison Stricklin of Overland Park.
A celebration of Betty Ann’s life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Glen Schlecht officiating. Viewing will be 1-8 p.m. Friday at Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Chapel.
Cremation will be conducted after the services.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Memorial Fund, 1835 Franklin St., Denver, 80218, or to the Betty Ann Spiering Memorial Fund in care of Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home.

ASLOR:
James Patrick Aslor entered into eternity on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005. He died peacefully at his Fort Collins home, after a long journey with cancer. A celebration of his life is planned for 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, at Timberline Church in Fort Collins.
Jim was born on June 25, 1937, in Chicago, Ill. He grew up enjoying the outdoors and a multicultural world, as his mother grew up in rural Texas and his father emigrated from the Philippines. Jim attended St. Joseph’s Military Academy in LaGrange, Ill.
Jim enjoyed the world of sales, being employed by Chief Automotive Systems for 20 years before retiring. He reveled in sharing his passion for travel throughout recent years of marketing in parts of Europe and the Pacific Rim.
Jim delighted in his family and friends, cooking and boating. He is survived by his wife, children and many precious grandchildren. He grew closer to the Lord during recent years of studying Scripture.
Often he mentioned his gratitude to those who fellowshipped with him along his journey.

BARNHART:
D. Ted Barnhart of Loveland. Funeral services 11 a.m. Thursday, January 13 at Viegut Funeral Home. Private interment at Loveland Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials to UNICEF Children’s Relief Fund in care of the Viegut Funeral Home.
D. Ted Barnhart, 66, of Loveland died Jan. 8, 2005, at his home.
He was born July 24, 1938, in Mount Vernon, Ill., to Frank L. Barnhart and Adeline Bartolomucci. He graduated from Sanford High School in the San Luis Valley area of Colorado in 1956.
Mr. Barnhart was the receiving manager for the Maxim Hotel in Las Vegas, Nev., for 20 years, retiring three years ago. He then moved to Loveland.
He enjoyed fishing, outdoor work, going to Black Hawk, and computer games.
He is survived by his brother, Vincent Barnhart and wife Joy of Loveland; nephews Frank Barnhart and wife Patti and Vince Barnhart and wife Alisa, all of Loveland; great-nephews Preston and Blake Barnhart of Loveland; great-niece Jennifer Barnhart of Loveland; special friend Sharon Mead of Las Vegas; cousins Ruth Hagen and husband Don of Denver, Joe Galley of Monument, and Don Roberts of Golden; daughters Carrie Muir and husband Rod of Reno, Nev., and Tracy Williams and husband Ron of Las Vegas; and four grandchildren.
Viewing will be 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at Viegut Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Viegut Funeral Home, the Rev. Tom Davis officiating.
Private burial will take place at Loveland Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to UNICEF Children’s Relief Fund in care of the Viegut Funeral Home, 1440 N. Boise, Loveland, 80538.

BROWN:
James William Brown passed away Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, in Fort Collins.
He was born Sept. 29, 1919, in El Dorado, Kan., to Thomas H. Brown and Emma Getter Brown. His family moved to Loveland, where he attended grade school and high school.
James was a World War II veteran, serving in Europe with the 100th Bomb Group in England.
He was employed by the U.S. Employment Service in Loveland until he resigned to attend Colorado A&M College, now Colorado State University. He received his degree in economics in 1954.
He and Dorothy Damm were married in 1954 and moved to Colorado Springs, where he worked for the Colorado Employment Service for nine years. He concluded his career in Denver working for the U.S. Department of Labor. He retired in 1977 and moved to Fort Collins, where he enjoyed his hobbies of gardening and boating.
He was a member of the Loveland Masonic Lodge No. 53.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Fort Collins; sister Lola M. Reichert of Greeley; brothers-in-law George Chisholm and Fred Damm; nephew, Jay Chisholm of Lakewood; and nieces Judy Kutcher and Janice Chisholm of Greeley and Joyce Chisholm of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mabel Chisholm.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Allnutt Funeral Service.
Interment of cremated remains will follow in Grandview Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Colorado State University General Scholarship Fund in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 650 W. Drake Road, Fort Collins, 80526.

BURGER:
Craig Martin Burger, 41, of West Jordan, Utah, formerly of Loveland, died in his home Jan. 2, 2005.
He was born April 7, 1963, in Mountain View, Calif. He lived in Loveland from 1968 to 1984. He graduated from Thompson Valley High School in 1981, and from Aims Community College in Greeley, with a degree in police science. He married Joy Anger on Oct. 30, 1993, in Sandy, Utah.
He was a veteran who served his country with pride. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a military policeman.
He worked in the mortgage industry for many years and later started his own photography business.
His passion was body building.
He won numerous trophies beginning while in the Air Force and concluding with first place in the Mr. Utah contest in October 2001.
He enjoyed photography, hobbies with his wife and fixing things.
He looked at the world through an artistic eye, seeing beauty in all things.
He is survived by his wife, Joy Burger of West Jordan; father, Roland H. Burger of Loveland; mother, Linda S. Spaulding of Portland, Ore.; a brother, Keith E. Burger of Pueblo; and sister, LeAnn Delunna of Santa Barbara, Calif.
Burial was Jan. 7, 2005, in the Veterans Administration Cemetery in Riverton, Utah. His name will be forever engraved on the wall of honor there.
