MELVILLE:
Charles "Chuck" P. Melville of Loveland. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, at the Spiritual Life Center at Good Samaritan Village. Charles "Chuck" Pursel Melville, 89, of Loveland, died April 2, 2001, at McKee Medical Center in Loveland.
He was born June 24, 1911, in Robinson, Kan., to the Rev. Charles J. and Mabel C. Maul Melville. He graduated from Nevada, Mo., High School and attended York College in Nebraska. He also attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and the University of Heidelberg in Germany. He married Hazel E. Meissbach on Feb. 14, 1948, in St. Louis.
Mr. Melville worked as a court reporter as a young man. He was a secretary at Curtis Wright Manufacturing Co. until he volunteered for the Army.
After the war, he worked at Mallinckrodt Chemical Co. He owned and operated businesses in Arvada and Durango. He sold the business and worked in the trust department at Farmers' and Merchants' Bank in Long Beach, Calif. He worked in the accounting office at Colorado State University for five years, retiring in 1973.
Mr. Melville lived in Fort Collins for 16 years and moved to Loveland in 1979. He had been a resident of Good Samaritan Village in Loveland for 7 years.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 542, El Jebel Shrine Knights Templar, Order of the Eastern Star and the White Shrine, all in Fort Collins.
He did volunteer work for Loveland Good Samaritan Village, working in the gardens and as an usher. He enjoyed gardening and was fond of flowers. He and his wife traveled extensively during their marriage.
Mr. Melville is survived by his wife, Hazel E. Melville of Loveland; one nephew and two nieces, all of Missouri.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph F. Melville and Elmer O. Melville, and a baby sister.
Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Allnutt-Hunter Chapel.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Good Samaritan Village Spiritual Life Center. The Rev. Mel Acheson will officiate.
Burial will be in Loveland Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to McKee Medical Center in care of Allnutt-Hunter Chapel.
SCHWARZ:
Clara Schwarz of Loveland. Widow of Fritz Schwarz. Services 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Protestant Reformed Church, 705 E. 57th St. Interment Loveland Burial Park. Memorial contributions to Loveland Protestant Reformed Christian School.
Clara Schwarz, 94, of Loveland, died March 31, 2001, at Sierra Vista Health Care Center in Loveland.
She was born June 27, 1906, in Sutton, Neb., to John H. and Christina Gemar Griess. She attended schools in Sutton. She married Fritz Schwarz on Dec. 11, 1927. He preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 1995. She was a homemaker.
They farmed in Sutton and moved to Loveland in 1945.
Mrs. Schwarz was a member of the Protestant Reformed Church in Loveland. She enjoyed flowers and gardening.
Mrs. Schwarz is survived by two sons, Jonathan Schwarz and wife Mary, and Don Schwarz and wife Lynnette, all of Loveland; three daughters, Leota Weitzel and husband LeRoy, Talitha Dotson, and Virginia Moore and husband Max, all of Loveland; a brother, Milton Griess of Sutton; a sister Luella Griess of Sutton; 29 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Alvin, Gideon and Harold Griess, two sisters, Hilda Nuss and Edna Huber, and a daughter, Viola Campbell.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Protestant Reformed Church, 705 E. 57th St., Loveland with the Rev. Garrett Eriks officiating.
Burial will be in Loveland Burial Park.

WHITEHORN:
"Walt" A. Whitehorn, 72, formerly of Loveland, died March 31, 2001, at McKee Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 3, 1928, in Myrtle, Miss., to Howard and Sophie Smith Whitehorn.
He served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
Mr. Whitehorn worked as a tree surgeon in Little Rock, Ark. He later worked in building maintenance at Water Pik.
After retirement he was a parts delivery person for Car Quest.
He married Betty L. Hunter Taylor June 9, 1986, in Reno, Nev.
He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Fort Collins; sons Clay Taylor of Denver, and Clint Taylor of Fort Collins; daughters Amy Burns of Bloomfield, Mo., Deena Raines of Sikeston, Mo., Susan Venable of Bernie, Mo., Mimi Jones of Fort Collins, and Penne Berwick of Loveland; brothers Norman Whitehorn of Tyler, Texas, Nathan Whitehorn of Olive Branch, Miss., Wallace Whitehorn of Moulton, Ala., and George Whitehorn of Chattanooga, Tenn.; sisters Nettie Ward of Clinton, Ark., Gladys Jones of Nashville, Tenn., Lois Dodson of Columbus, Miss., Dorothy Trimm of Memphis, Tenn., and Lovie Johnson of Alberta, Ala.; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Whitehorn; a daughter, Brenda Johnson; a brother, Alton Whitehorn; and a sister, Lavern Whitehorn.
Cremation has been conducted.

WITHERELL:

Jean M. Witherell, 88, of Estes Park, died April 4, 2001, at North Shore Health Care Facility in Loveland.
She was born July 23, 1912, in Galva, Ill., to George and Blanche Houghton McClintock.
She married Robert Stowell Witherell on March 15, 1935, in Wichita, Kan. He preceded her in death May 24, 1999.
Mrs. Witherell was a homemaker. She was a former resident of Denver, and had lived in Estes Park since 1976.
She was a member of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church. She also was a member of PEO.
She enjoyed painting, doing needlepoint, sewing, weaving, cooking and antiquing.
She is survived by her son, Robert J. Witherell and wife Judy, and by two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister.
Private family memorial services are being held.

HAINING:
Alvin S. Haining, 92, formerly of Loveland, died May 25, 2001, at his home in Collegedale, Tenn.
Graveside services were May 30 at Resthaven Cemetery in Phoenix. Melvin Haining officiated.
He was born Dec. 27, 1908, in Agra, Kan., to John Ralph and Nora Ellen Crown Haining. He married Mary Ellen Schoonover on Aug. 2, 1930. She preceded him in death. He married Agnes Simmonds on Sept. 16, 1972. She preceded him in death on Jan. 11, 1998.
He grew up in Kansas and moved to Arizona, where he worked as a salesman and mechanic and later was self-employed at A&M Engine Rebuilders. He moved to Loveland in 1974. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Mr. Haining is survived by a son, Melvin Haining and wife Vera of Lodi, Calif.; a daughter, Shirley Spears and husband J. Donald, of Collegedale; daughter-in-law, Kathy; stepsons, Von Simmonds and wife Donna of Phillipsburg, Kan., Rex Simmonds and wife Ruby, Ken Simmonds, Linden "Lin" Simmonds and wife Linda, and Jim Simmonds, all of Topeka, Kan., Richard Simmonds and wife Fran of Loveland; stepdaughter, Alberta Tuxhorn and husband Ivan of Loveland; step-daughters-in-law, Laura, Pat, and Ann Simmonds, all of Loveland; 31 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Alvin "Bud" Haining, and stepsons, George and Jerry Simmonds.

KEZLAN:
Richard J. Kezlan. Husband of Jean Ann Kezlan. Arrangements pending.
Richard Jess Kezlan, 67, of Loveland, died of a heart attack June 11, 2001, in Tulsa, Okla., while attending a family reunion.
He was born Nov. 23, 1933, in Omaha, Neb., to Jess Samuel Kezlan and Bessie Gruber Kezlan. He was educated in Omaha schools.
In the U.S. Army, he was a photo lab technician and photo instructor stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. He was discharged in 1958. He moved to Loveland in 1961.
He married Jean Ann Robertson on March 18, 1978, in Loveland.
Mr. Kezlan was a photographer and owned Dick Kezlan Commercial Photography in Loveland. He retired in 1992.
He was a devoted advocate for Alternatives to Violence in Loveland, and he previously worked as a VISTA volunteer with the Loveland Housing Authority. He was affiliated for many years with the Emissaries.
Mr. Kezlan loved the mountains, hiking, fishing, canoeing and learning the computer; he continued to enjoy his talent as a photographer.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Ann Kezlan of Loveland; two sons, Timothy Alan Kezlan and wife Christie of Aurora, and Jess Raymond Kezlan; daughter Kristina Lynn Erickson and husband Shane and their children Brittany and Carissa, all of Thornton; stepson Steve Ahlvin and wife Stefanie and their children Ross and Marissa, all of Loveland; stepdaughter Cynthia Reinert and husband Delvin and their children Heath and Jenna, all of Holly, Colo.; brother Tom Kezlan of Kansas City, Mo.; and sister Jessie Pomo of Omaha.
Cremation has been conducted.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Sunrise Ranch in Loveland, with Louis Rotola officiating. Burial will be at Sunrise Ranch.

Jessica Beth Marr of Loveland died June 16 at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins. She was 26.
She was born Sept. 17, 1974 in Greeley to Max M. and Carrie J. Hyde Marr.
She never married.
She graduated from Thomspon Valley High School in 1992 where she was active in music and athletic programs. She attended the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley for two years.
She worked in customer support at Concepts Direct in Longmont.
She lived in Loveland all her life.
She belonged to Evangelical Covenant Church in Loveland. She participated in musical productions at church during her school years.
She loved music and was a loving mother.
She is survived by a daughter Carianne Elizabeth Marr of Loveland, parents Max and Carrie Marr of Loveland, brother Tyler Marr and wife Denise of Loveland, grandmother Gladys Hyde of Taylor, Neb., and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Viewing will be at the Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home 1-8 p.m. today with family present from 6-8 p.m. Cremation will take place following the viewing.
Celebration of life services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Scott Slayback of Evangelical Covenant Church officiating.
Inurnment of cremains will be at a later date at Madison Square Cemetery in Taylor, Neb.

Edwina F. "Winnie" Nichols, 82, of Loveland, formerly of Boulder, died June 12, 2001, in a local nursing home.
She was born July 15, 1918, in Pilot Grove, Mo., to Claude J. and Stella Elizabeth Oerly McDonald.
She married Benjamin Carl Nichols on July 9, 1936, in Trenton, Mo. They moved to Boulder in 1954.
Mrs. Nichols was a loving mother and homemaker. She enjoyed playing bridge and was an excellent cook. She was a constant source of entertainment with her humor and wit. She leaves the gift of love to her family and many friends.
She is survived by two sons, Phillip Nichols and wife Elaine of Loveland, and Richard Carl Nichols and wife Karen of Woodlands, Texas; grandsons Jeffrey Carl Nichols and Chad Phillip Nichols, both of Loveland; granddaughters Jennifer Ann Nichols and Pamela Kaye Nichols, both of Woodlands; and a sister, Margaret Reed, of Phoenix.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Carl Nichols, on March 6, 1986.
Cremation has been conducted.

OERTEL:
Lonnie D. Oertel, 28, of Primghar, Iowa, formerly of Loveland, died June 10, 2001, at the Baum-Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar.
He was born Nov. 13, 1972, in Sheldon, Iowa, to Charles Roger and Janice Vander Plaats Oertel. He moved to Loveland as a small child and graduated from Thompson Valley High School in 1991. He received training in auto mechanics while in high school. He was employed as a truck driver for various trucking firms after high school. He married Tammy Myers on Oct. 2, 1999, at the United Church in Primghar.
They made their home in Primghar. He was employed by Ag Processing in Sheldon, Iowa.
Mr. Oertel is survived by his wife, Tammy Oertel of Primghar; a son, Damon Myers of Primghar; three daughters, Jessica, Kasha and Shaina Myers, all of Primghar; parents, C. Roger and Janice Oertel of Loveland; two brothers, Shon Oertel and wife Linda of Orange City, Iowa, and Chad Oertel of Loveland; a sister, Krystal Oertel of Loveland; grandmother, Velma Oertel of Anthon, Iowa; a niece and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by infant twin brothers, maternal grandparents and his paternal grandfather.
Visitation will be 2 p.m. today with family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home in Primghar.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the United Church of Primghar, with the Rev. Ginger Moore officiating.
Burial will be in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.
