Margaret C. Johnson

Margaret C. Johnson, 89, of Longmont, died October 1, 2007 at her home.
She was born October 12, 1917 in Thurber, Texas to Ercoli and Rose (Dori) Carrari.
Margaret married Walter A. Johnson, Sr. on December 31, 1941 in San Antonio, Texas.
She moved to Longmont in 1949 from St. Louis, Missouri.
Margaret was a teacher for St. Vrain Valley Schools, teaching Junior High School in Mead until her retirement.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, PTA when her children were school-age, Retired Teachers Association and AAUW, where she enjoyed meeting women and developing friendships after moving to Longmont. Margaret loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing bridge, cooking and passing on recipes, reading and was a Denver Broncos fan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers; one sister and a grandson, David Dawson.
Survivors include her daughter Janice Dawson of Broomfield and her children Dorothy Spencer and Diane Anderson; two sons Walter Johnson of Longmont and his children Travis, Carlyne, Kayla and Tyler; and Glenn Johnson and his wife Kim of Longmont and their children Eli, Clayton and Sophia; 7 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Minnie Colnar and Elsa Fini.
Inurnment will be 9:30 AM Sat. Oct. 13 at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
Memorial Service will be 10:30 AM Saturday, October 13 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel with Deacon Richard A. Medenwaldt of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, Broomfield, officiating. Cremation at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of donor’s choice and sent to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
Joseph W. 'Joe' Dawson
November 21, 1952 - March 31, 2005
Joseph W. “Joe” Dawson of Erie, formerly of Louisville, died March 31, 2005 at Avista Adventist Hospital in Louisville. He was 52.
He was born November 21, 1952 in Neenah, Wisconsin to Paul and Lillian (Dove) Dawson. He moved to Boulder County in 1960 from Wisconsin.
Mr. Dawson earned a diploma from the Graduate School of Banking through University of Colorado. He graduated from Fairview High School in Boulder and studied business at the University of Colorado.
He married Cynthia Giles on June 6, 1975 in Boulder.
Mr. Dawson built a successful 30-year banking career in the communities of Louisville and Lafayette. He joined the Heritage Bank in 1999 and assumed the role of Vice President and managing officer of its Lafayette branch at 95th and Arapahoe in 2000. Prior to that position, he was on the staff of the Louisville branches of First Federal Bank (1990 to 1998) and Affiliated Bank of Colorado (1975 to 1990).
An avid golfer and community leader, Mr. Dawson served as Co-Chair of the Spaghetti Open Golf Tournament (1984-2002), a director of the Louisville Chamber of Commerce (1988-1991), a member of the Louisville Lions Club, a member of the Men’s Golf League at Coal Creek Golf Course in Louisville and a President of First Coal Creek Men’s Club in 1990. He became a certified pilot 5 years ago. He was of the Christian faith and enjoyed golfing, fishing, flying and boating.
He is preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife of Erie; a daughter, Tami Dawson of Erie; his mother of Longmont; a brother, Pete Dawson and his wife Lindy of Niwot and two sisters, Gail Maki and her husband Dennis of Madison, Wisconsin and Kathy Campbell and her husband George of Firestone.
Memorial Service will be 3 PM Tuesday, April 5 at Rocky Mountain Christian Church, 9447 Niwot Road in Niwot with Pastor Earl Matson officiating. Cremation will take place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Joseph L. 'Joe' Binkley
October 8, 1919 - March 15, 2005
Joseph L. “Joe” Binkley of Boulder died Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at Good Samaritan Assisted Living Center in Boulder. He was 85.
He was born October 8, 1919 to William and Iva (Guy) Binkley in Lafayette, Ohio. He grew up and attended schools in Lafayette, graduating from Lafayette High School in 1937.
On October 28, 1938 he married Beulah “Boots” Hall in Auburn, Indiana. They met in Lafayette as children when she was six and he was five.
Immediately after they were married, Mr. Binkley operated a Pure Oil Service Station in Lafayette, Ohio until World War II.
He served in the U.S. Navy from June 12, 1944 until January 17, 1946. He was trained to operate landing craft and was stationed at San Diego, CA and Honolulu, Hawaii.
After his discharge from the Navy, Mr. Binkley worked for Pure Oil and subsequently Union Oil, rising to the level of branch manager. He retired in 1978 at which time he and his wife moved to Florida.
During their marriage, Mr. Binkley and his wife lived in Lafayette, Lima, Van Wert, Fostoria and Port Clinton, Ohio. They moved to Boulder in 1991 to be closer to his daughter, Suzanne Welker.
He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge in Van Wert, Ohio and enjoyed fishing, bridge and played golf frequently during his retirement years in Florida.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, “Boots” and a sister, Wilma Jean Kundert.
He is survived by a son, William Joe Binkley and his wife Anne of Salisbury, MD; a daughter, Suzanne Welker and her husband Mark of Boulder; a sister, Rebekah Baxter; three grandchildren, Michael Binkley and his wife Betsy, Brian Binkley and Wendy (Welker) Gruchow and her husband Curt and two great-grandchildren, Colten and Camden Gruchow.
Private family services will be held. Cremation will take place at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Memorial Contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Assisted Living Center, 2525 Taft Drive, Boulder, CO 80302.
John 'Jack' Zancanelli
December 19, 1937 - September 19, 2007
John “Jack” Zancanelli, 69, of Longmont, passed away September 19, 2007 at his home.
He was born December 19, 1937 in Superior to Leon and Mabel (Asti) Zancanelli. He was raised in the Boulder area.
Jack graduated from Boulder High School in 1955 and attended University of Colorado – Boulder for 2 years.
Jack married June Caldwell July 13, 1968 in Boulder.
He moved to Longmont in 1974 from Denver.
Jack worked for the U.S. Postal Service in the Boulder Post Office, working in bulk mailing. He retired in 1991.
Jack was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Gunbarrel. He coached Little League Baseball in Boulder.
Jack enjoyed playing cards, all sports, especially the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies and his trips on the Hill. He loved his family and enjoyed babysitting his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife June of Longmont; his son Doug Zancanelli of Rifle, CO; two daughters, Jill Brown and her husband David of Longmont and Joy Uhl of Crestview, Florida; a brother, Gerald Zancanelli of Boulder and six grandchildren, Meghan, Zachary, Jaedyn, Dante, Andrew and Michael.
Visitation will be 6-7:30 PM Saturday, September 22 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel 326 Terry St. Longmont, with family present to greet friends. Funeral Service will be 2 PM Sunday, September 23 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church 71st and Lookout Rd Gunbarrel. Private interment Mountain View Memorial Park in Boulder. Lesa Dawn Hansen
July 9, 1970 - March 20, 2005
Lesa Dawn Hansen of Frederick died Sunday, March 20, 2005 at Longmont United Hospital. She was 34.
She was born July 9, 1970 in Longmont to James Wayne and Mary (Schauer) Burback.
She was a Longmont native and has lived in Frederick since her marriage.
She graduated from Skyline High School in 1988 and also completed cosmetology school at Sharon Duran Beauty School while in high school.
She married Erik K. Hansen on September 26, 1998 in Longmont.
Mrs. Hansen was a licensed beautician and was a manager at Great Clips in the Longmont and Boulder area for 14 years and then at Cost Cutters in Longmont before her marriage. After her marriage she was a homemaker and mother.
A member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mrs. Hansen loved her doing things for children and learned to read Braille for her daughter. She also enjoyed crafts and made Christmas Wreaths for the Tiny Tim Christmas Auction.
She is preceded in death by a stepbrother, Timothy Dewain Sowell in 2004.
She is survived by her husband Erik of Frederick; two daughters, Allie Hansen and Morgan Hansen both of Frederick; her father, Jim Burback and his wife Judy of Longmont; her mother of Longmont; her twin brother, Chris Burback of Longmont; her grandmother, Frances Schauer of Longmont; her father- and mother-in-law, Keith and Pam Hansen of Denver and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation 7-9 PM Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel with family present to greet friends 7-8 PM. Funeral Service 11 AM Thurs. Merlin Charles Williams
July 20, 1931 - March 24, 2005
Merlin Charles Williams, 73, relinquished his long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, at Sunrise Assisted Living, Boulder, CO on Wednesday, March 24, 2005.
Merlin was born July 20, 1931 in Canova, South Dakota to Fred and Helma (Loe) Williams. He was raised in Howard, South Dakota, and attended both elementary and high school in Howard. Other education included Civil Engineering at the Universities of Wyoming and South Dakota State; meteorological work at the University of Chicago; Business Administration at Stanford University; graduate work at the College of Engineering, University of Wyoming and training by the Foreign Affairs Institute.
Merlin served for 3 years in the United State Air Force in Korea. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
Merlin’s occupations were with the Fresno State College, State of South Dakota for the Department of Natural Resources Development, NOAA, and Ball Aerospace. His employment involved significant travel to foreign countries such as: Spain, Saudi Arabia, Niger, Jordan, Israel, Ecuador, Malaysia, Australia, Europe and Russia.
Merlin married Ethel Moe in 1959 and they made their homes in Denver, CO; Laramie, WY; Fresno, CA; Pierre, SD; Palo Alto, CA; Niwot, CO and Longmont, CO. Throughout their many moves Merlin helped raise 4 daughters.
He received his pilot’s license and volunteered in many ways for church and community. His hobbies included woodworking, stained glass work, hunting, fishing, camping, square dancing and writing. He designed, patented, and marketed a stain glasscutter handle.
Merlin was a faithful, committed Christian, who passed on this faith to his loving family. He remained kind and loving throughout his long illness. He truly reflected the qualities and characteristics of Christ throughout his life, even to the end. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, taking his last breath during the Lord’s Prayer. His family confidently awaits their reunion with Merlin, on the other side.
Merlin is survived by his daughters, Catherine and husband Charlie Holzer (Oklahoma), Laura and her husband Martin Boniek (Nederland), Ellen and husband David Hicks (Erie), Maureen and husband Ron Ingle II (Littleton); grandchildren, Spc. William Pace, Tonya Pace, Johann Boniek, Rebecca Boniek; siblings Floyd Williams (Kansas), Henry Williams and his wife Marcia (South Dakota); numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Ethel.
Visitation will be 3:00 – 7:00 PM Mon. March 28 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel with family present to greet friends 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Funeral Service 10 AM Tues. Mar. 29 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1221 W. 17th Avenue in Longmont, with Rev. Michael Traudt of the church officiating. Interment Niwot Cemetery in Niwot. Nell A. White
December 4, 1927 - March 13, 2005
Nell A. White of Longmont died March 13, 2005 at Longmont United Hospital. She was 77.
She was born December 4, 1927 in Amarillo, Texas to Emmett Crawford and Bertha Nellie (Bruckner) Adair.
She graduated from high school in Lubbock, Texas in 1945. She then graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics in 1948 and Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1951.
She married Gene White on July 31, 1954 in Lubbock, Texas.
Mrs. White was a Registered Nurse until her marriage and then following her marriage she was a homemaker. She was later a preschool director.
She came to Longmont in 1965 from Wappinger Falls, NY.
A member of Calvary Church, she was also a member of a garden club, American Association of University Women, a mentor for unwed mothers and volunteered for Meals On Wheels. She enjoyed sewing, flower gardening, roses and painting.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Bill Adair.
She is survived by her husband Gene of Longmont; a son, David White and his wife Debbie of Littleton; a daughter, Marinell Throckmorton and her husband Albert of Memphis, Tennessee; a brother, Emmett Adair and his wife Kitty of Brenham, Texas; a sister-in-law, Agnes Adair of Houston, Texas and two grandchildren, Graham and Philip Throckmorton.
Memorial Service will be at 2PM Thursday, March 17 at Calvary Church, 2101 Gay Street in Longmont with Rev. Tom Hovestol of the church officiating. Cremation has been held at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Private Inurnment will take place at a later time at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
