Ruth Wheeler: 1913-2004

Longtime Routt County resident Ruth Wheeler died Feb. 5, 2004, in New Castle, Wyo. She was 90.
Ruth was born April 28, 1913, in Steamboat Springs. She was the youngest daughter of Samuel Addison and Lulu Vietz Keller, pioneer ranchers in the Elk River Valley.
Ruth received her elementary schooling in rural schools in Routt County and graduated from Steamboat Springs High School. She received her teaching certificate from Colorado Teachers College in Greeley, now known as the University of Northern Colorado. Ruth taught in Routt County's rural schools until she learned she was expecting her first daughter.
She married Clarence Wheeler on Sept. 15, 1935, in Craig. They lived on rental properties until they purchased the Charles Reister ranch on Slate Creek, about three miles northwest of Steamboat.
After the death of Clarence's father, they moved to the lower Elk River, where they made their home until ill health forced them to move where they could be cared for by their daughter, Gladys Matney.
Ruth was preceded in death by her sister, Edna; her brothers, Lee and William; and her son, Chester.
She is survived by her husband, Clarence; two daughters, Gladys Matney of Lusk, Wyo., and Clare Peek of Steamboat; three grandsons and three great-grandchildren.
Ruth will be remembered as a loving mother, a hard-working helpmate to her husband of 68 years and a tenderhearted neighbor.
Services were held Feb. 11, 2004, at the Yampa Valley Funeral Home in Steamboat.
Jean Bryer Travis

Jean Bryer Travis passed away July 28, 2004. She was 79.
Jean was born June 18, 1925, in Boston. She graduated from the Mary A. Burnham School in 1941 and from Vassar College in 1945. She earned a master's degree in education from Northeastern University in 1968.
Jean worked at the Florence Crittenton League, where she was responsible for placing more than 400 Columbian, Korean, Vietnamese and Indian children up for adoption to Massachusetts families. She wrote the book "It's Neat to be Adopted."
From 1985 to 1999, Jean lived in West Barnstable, Mass., where she operated a private psychotherapy practice for children.
Jean was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who was committed to her family and to children in need.
Jean is survived by her three children, Debra Prudden of Andover, Mass., and Dana and Dale Miquelle, of Bozeman, Mont.; a niece, Nancy B. Smith of Steamboat Springs; nine grandchildren and a great-niece, Lindsey Smith.
A funeral service was held Aug. 2, 2004, in West Barnstable, Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association National Office, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
Anne Farley Ford (1922-2004)

Former Steamboat Springs resident Anne Farley Ford died Sept. 29, 2004, at Chelsea Retirement Community in Chelsea, Mich. She was 82.
Anne was born July 17, 1922, in Battle Creek, Mich., to George and Clarice Farley.
After graduating from Oberlin College in 1944, Anne taught elementary school in Battle Creek; Oberlin, Ohio; and Chestnut Hill, Mass. She was an active member of PEO Fellowship Chapter CH. She was a member and past chairwoman of Friends of University
Telesfora Reynalda Osborn (1933-2004)

Hayden resident Telesfora "Flora" Reynalda Osborn passed away Nov. 30, 2004, in Steamboat Springs after a lengthy illness. She was 71.
Flora Reynalda Salazar was born April 27, 1933, in Coyote, N.M., to Eduardo and Delfinia Salazar. She was raised and attended school in Coyote.
At the age of 21, Flora moved to Hayden with her family. She worked as a nurse's aide and a cook and waitress at the Broken Drum and the City Café in Hayden.
She married Benny Sandercook, and the couple remained together until his death in 1972. In December 1973, Flora married Gary Keith Osborn, who died in 1981. The couple had a daughter, Mitzie.
Flora enjoyed ceramics, word searches, sewing, fishing, camping, traveling, playing Yahtzee and cards, shopping and, most of all, being around and caring for her grandchildren. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the local women's bowling league.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Priscilla; a brother, Floyd; and an infant brother.
Flora is survived by a daughter, Mitzie, and her husband, Eddy Bennett, of Hayden; two granddaughters, Kyra and Morgan Bennett; a sister, Casilda Chiaro of Steamboat Springs; seven brothers, Filimon, Joe, Eddie and Chencho Salazar of Hayden, Demet Salazar of Farmington, N.M., Jimmy Salazar of Grand Junction, and Hernan Salazar of Roosevelt, Utah; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service was held Dec. 4, 2004, at the Hayden Congregational Church. Pastor Janet Babish officiated. Interment followed in Hayden Cemetery.
Glenn H. Kuntz: 1930-2000

Glenn H. "Boze" Kuntz died in Fort Worth, Texas, Dec. 20, 2000. He was 70.
Glenn was born July 13, 1930, in Oak Creek to Michael J. and
Nona (Whitecotton) Kuntz.
He was a retired technician and owner and operator of his own air-conditioning business. He had lived in Texas since 1954 and had owned Glenco Air Conditioning in Lake Worth, Texas, since 1964. He retired in 1998.
He was an avid outdoorsman and a true fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
He is survived by his wife, Bette Jeannine Kuntz; four daughters, Velda Sue Duffin of Portland, Ore.; Teresa Joy Jett and Michelle Elaine Zulevich, both of Steamboat Springs; and Kelly Renee Bevins of Azle, Texas; a sister, Shirley Montieth of Oak Creek; two brothers, John Kuntz and William "Bill" Kuntz, both of Oak Creek; three grandchildren, Devan Oales, Audrey Bivens and Sydney Bivens; and a great-grandchild, Naomi Oates.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Mary Paxton.
A memorial service was held at Biggers Funeral Chapel in Lake Worth, Texas. Memorial contributions in Glenn's name may be sent to the Service Officers Life Foundation, 4500 S. Lancaster, Dallas, Texas 75216.

Lucile Maxfield Bogue, college founder, award-winning author, educator and long-time resident of Steamboat Springs, passed away Jan. 25, 2005, in El Cerrito, Calif. She was 93.

Julia "Judy" L. (Stanko) Moore (1907-2005)
Julia L. "Judy" (Stanko) Moore, of Las Vegas, Nevada, died May 17, 2005. She was 97 years old at the time of her death. Her ashes will be interned next to her husband, John "Jack" Moore in the Steamboat Springs Cemetery in Colorado.
Ralph E. Nickel
Ralph E. Nickel of Oak Creek died May 15, 2005, from complications of diabetes. He was 69. He was at his Arizona home surrounded by family. He is survived by his partner and companion Molly McClure; four siblings; numerous nieces and nephews and a wonderful dog, Rufus.
