David L. Watson

David Watson of Craig, Colo., died July 18, 1998, at The Memorial Hospital in Craig.
Watson was born to David P. and Ethel Rose (Sims) Watson on June 11, 1956, in Germany and spent his childhood in Illinois.
Watson married Angie M. Wilson May 27, 1994, in Taylorville, Ill.
He lived in Craig for three years.
He worked as a bus driver and cement finisher.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing pool, darts and bowling.
Watson is survived by his wife, Angie Watson of Craig; grandmother, Leona Watson of Springfield, Ill.; father-in-law, and mother-in-law, Bill and Sharon Wilson of Craig; and several aunts and uncles.
Services were held at 6:30 p.m. July 25, 1998, at Grant Mortuary in Craig.
J.D. Barnett officiated with Georgia Herod as soloist. Selections were "Old Rugged Cross" "Knock'n On Heavens Door" and "Have A Little Talk With Jesus."
Honorary pallbearers were Jesse Silos, Bill Wilson, Thomas Paz, Terry Massey, Norman LaRue, Jason Bradford, Daniel Silos, Dick St. Clair and Darren Bevel.
Services concluded at the mortuary.
Reynaldo Martinez
1923 - 1998
Reynaldo Martinez of Craig, Colo., died July 23, 1998, at his home in Craig at the age of 75.
Martinez was born to Amadeo A. and Sara (Gallegos) Martinez on Jan. 19, 1923, in Mora, N.M.
He has been a resident of Craig for 30 years.
He worked as a custodian for Mathers' Bar and Grill and as a sheep herder.
He was a member of St. Gertrude's Catholic Church in Mora.
Martinez is survived by his mother, Sara Martinez of Mora; sisters, Leonila (Chencho) Cordova of Denver, Teresa Del Nino Jesus of Guadalajara, Spain; brothers, Pedro I. and Jose G. Martinez of Mora and Jose Benito (Florinda) Martinez of Las Vegas, N.M.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Amadeo A. Martinez; brother, Esequiel Martinez; and sister Anna Lujan.
A rosary was held at 6:30 p.m. July 30, 1998, at St. Gertrude's Catholic Church in Mora.
Services were held at 10 a.m. July 31, 1998, at the church officiated by Father Tien-Tri Nguyen.
Pallbearers were Nestor Martinez, Jose Benito Martinez, Jose Guillermo Martinez, Gabriel Cordova, Patrick Montoya and Jose Benito Lujan.
Interment followed at the Mora Cemetery.
Larry Dale Lanier
1934 - 1998
Larry Dale Lanier of Level Run Road, Hurt, died Aug. 16, 1998 in Lynchburg General Hospital.
Lanier was born to Dews and Fannie (Emerson) Lanier Sept. 4, 1934 in Pittsylvania County.
He was the husband of Betty (Keesee) Lanier. They raised Simmental cattle at their farm in Hurt.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, on the Board of Directors of Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative since 1981, the former owner of Altavista Farm Service, and an employee of C.T. Farm and Country of Lynchburg.
He attended St. John Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Lanier is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Kimberly Lanier Robbins, of Waynesboro; brothers, Dr. William J. Lanier, of Greensboro, NC, Sidney P. (Gaynelle) Lanier, and Carroll V. (Shirley) Lanier, all of Hurt, Ralph D. (Shirley) Lanier, of Craig, Colo., E. Paige (Marian) Lanier, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Fredrick B. (Barbara) Lanier, of Madison Heights; sisters, Doris L. (Paul) Cocke, Linda L. (Raymond) Rice, all of Hurt, Marian L. Brooks, of Scottsville and Nancy Lanier of Virginia Beach.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Leslie Jo Lanier.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Aug. 19, 1998 at St. John Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev., Latta Terry. Internment was at the Altavista Memorial Park.

Emily W. Hamaker
1917 - 1998
Emily W. Hamaker, formerly of Craig, Colo., died Aug. 3, 1998, at the Routt Memorial Hospital in Steamboat Springs, Colo. She was 81.
Emily Hamaker was born to Alfred and Eleanore Watson June 24, 1917, in Preston, Idaho.
She married Gilbert Hamaker.
Hamaker was employed at the McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah before moving to Colorado.
Hamaker is survived by a daughter, Judy (Ray) Nelson of Odgen; sons, Dennis (Renee) Hamaker of Craig, Lee (Colleen) Hamaker of Jensen, Utah, and Tim Hamaker of Ogden; six grandchildren, Chance, Bobby, Jessica, Erin, Kevin and Stacy; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Packum and Merle Arnold of Layton, Utah, and brother Marion (Elva) Watson of Riverdale, Utah.
She was preceded in death by her husband and 12 sisters and brothers.
Services were held in Ogden. Interment was at the Ogden City Cemetery.

Jill S.I. Varga of Craig, Colo., died Sept. 3, 1998, in Denver, Colo. A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday at First Congregational Church in Craig. Rev. Kenneth Forshee will officiate.
Larry O'Conor
Larry O'Conor of Meeker, Colo., died Monday at Pioneers Hospital in Meeker. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Meeker Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow at the Highland Cemetery.

Flo Hein
1902 - 1998
Flo Hein from Colorado Springs, Colo., died Sept. 11, 1998, at the Colonial Columns Nursing Home in Colorado Springs. She was 96.
Hein was born to Alva and Mary Williams April 22, 1902, in Mitchell, Ind. She spent her childhood in Indiana until the age of 13.
Hein lived in Hayden, Colo., and graduated from Hayden High School.
She married Paul Hein Sept. 16, 1920, at her parent's ranch on the Williams Fork.
She lived in Hayden until 1995, when she moved to Colorado Springs.
She was a member of the Hayden Congregational Church and worked with the Rainbow Girls for many years.
She enjoyed writing poetry, quilting, baking, canning and ran a booth at the county fair.
Hein is survived by her daughter Pauline (James) Lung of Denver; son-in-law, Jay Hockett of Colorado Springs; grandchildren, LeAnn Privett of Colorado Springs, Barbara Lusero of Fort Lupton, Colo., John Lung of Littleton, Colo., Becky Williams of Westminster, Colo., and Pamela Walz of Broomfield, Colo.
She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Hein, who died Jan. 9, 1971; daughter, Avis Hockett; and her parents.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 14, 1998, at the Hayden Congregational Church with Bill Iammatteo-Code officiating.
Avis Funk was organist and Gretchen Hayes was the soloist. Selections were "In The Garden" and "Beyond The Sunset."
Pallbearers were Louis Lusero, Mike Williams, Ron Walz, Arlan Privett, John Lung and Duane Hockett.
Interment was at the Hayden Cemetery.
Willie Newton Nottingham
1914 - 1998
Willie Newton Nottingham of Craig, Colo., died Sept. 9, 1998, at The Memorial Hospital in Craig. She was 84.
Nottingham was born to Robert and Fannie (Kizzia) Gullett June 7, 1914, in Porum, Okla. She spent her childhood in Cortez, Colo., graduating from Cortez High School.
She married E. Willis Nottingham March 8, 1947, in Denver.
She was a housewife and worked as a public health nurse in Adams County, Colo. She took her nurse training at Mercy Hospital in Durango, Colo., and Mercy Hospital in Denver and received her degree in Public Health Nursing from Vanderbilt University.
She previously lived in Avon, Colo., and Grand Junction, Colo., She lived in Craig since 1973.
Nottingham was a member of the First Congregational Church in Craig and a member of the library board for several years.
She enjoyed knitting, reading and walking.
She is survived by sons, Edward Nottingham of Denver, Michael (Kelly) Nottingham of Craig, and Robert (Barbara) Nottingham of Maybell, Colo.; and grandchildren, Amelia, Edward W. III, Robert Emmett Jr., Laura Lee, Katy and Spencer Nottingham.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E. Willis Nottingham, who died Oct. 21, 1994, and her brother, Herbert Gullett.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 12, 1998, at Grant Mortuary and officiated by Richard Henderson.
Organist was Elaine DeuPree and soloist was Judy Lyon. Selections were "How Great Thou Art" and "Wind Beneath My Wings."
Pallbearers were Amelia Nottingham, Laura Nottingham, Emmett Nottingham, Spencer Nottingham and Willis Nottingham. Honorary pallbearer was Katy Nottingham.
Interment was at the Craig Cemetery.
William Eric Herod
Services for William "Rickey" Eric Herod were held at Mesa View Mortuary Chapel in Delta, Colo., at 10 a.m. Sept. 19, 1998.
Darlene (Bonnie) Sherman
1942 - 1998
Darlene Sherman, formerly of Craig, Colo., died at her home in Meeker, Colo., Sept. 14, 1998.
She was born to Charles B. and Genevieve Vera (Mlinek) Hayes Edwards April 19, 1942, in Meeker and attended school in Craig.
She married Jon Daniel (Dan) Sherman Aug. 8, 1960, and they moved to the Ferndale Ranch northwest of Craig. They ran a guide and outfitting operation.
Sherman volunteered at the hospital, became a nurse's aid, a ward clerk and obtained a position at the Craig Medical Clinic working there for 19 years.
She enjoyed her children and grandchildren, painting, gardening, photography, reading, genealogy, cake decorating, camping and traveling.
Sherman was a charter member of The Center of Craig, involved with the Craig Planning and Zoning Board for many years, a member of the Moffat County Parks and Recreation Board, a member of the Hospital Auxiliary and a 4-H leader when her children were young.
She is survived by her husband, daughters, Deborah JoAnne (Tim) Hurst and Christina Rene (Lester) Welch; grandchildren, Corine Rene Welch, Sherry JoAnne Welch and Clint Daniel Welch of Craig; brothers, Charles B. (Dorothy) Hayes, Jr. of Grand Junction, Colo., and Larry Edward (Betty) Hayes of Evergreen, Colo.; stepfather, Joseph Edwards of Craig; and nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by a son, Steven Daniel Sherman, her parents and a brother.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Sept. 18, 1998, at Grant Mortuary with Richard Henderson officiating.
Leonard Hurst of Sheridan, Wyo., father of Tim Hurst, was the soloist. Organist was Virginia Biskup. Selections were "The Lord's Prayer" and "In The Garden."
Pallbearers were John Cowie, Glen Sherman, Greg Hollar, Matt McCarthy, Lester Welch and Tim Hurst.
Memorial donations may be made in care of Grant Mortuary for her grandchildren's college fund.
Ruth Bayley
1902 - 1998
Ruth L. Bayley of Lake City, Minn., died Aug. 15, 1998, at the Lake City Nursing Home. She was 96.
Bayley was born to William and Edna (Robey) Lumley July 4, 1902.
She was graduated from Ohio State University in 1924 and taught business classes for several years in Ohio.
Bayley married Dr. E. Covall Bayley Aug. 1, 1933, in Chicago and moved to Lake City.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, Lake City Women's Club, Eastern Star and Lake City Garden Club. She served on Lake City's Library Board for 36 years and was an avid doll collector.
Bayley is survived by daughter, Elizabeth Ann (Al) Shepherd of Craig, Colo.; sons, Bruce (Barb) of Eau Claire, Wis., John (Sandy) of Saphire, N.C., and Douglas (Bette) of Broomall, Pa.,; and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who died Dec. 23, 1969, one sister and one brother.
Services were held Aug. 19, 1998, at the First Congregational Church in Lake City with the Rev. David Badgley officiating.
Interment was at the Lakewood Cemetery in Lake City.
