Bernard E. Bergmann
1919 1999
Bernard E. "Bud" Bergmann of Craig, Colo., died Jan. 15, 1999. He was 79.
On Nov. 21, 1919, in Chicago, Ill., he was born to Rudolph and Christina (Hiza) Bergmann.
On Aug. 28, 1948, in Chicago, he married Cecilia M. Rodgers.
He was graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology and served as a captain in the U.S. Army tank corps during World War II in Africa and Italy.
He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Peter (Debra) Bergmann of Craig and Michael (Sally) Bergmann of Galena, Ill.; daughters, Kathy Bergmann of Craig, Mary (Dean) Pesci of Evergreen, Colo., and Carol (Ralph) Schroeder, of The Woodlands, Texas; sisters, Marge Woodrick of Janesville, Wisc., and Rose Bennett of Salem, Ill.; and grandchildren, Chris, Lauren, Matt and Robbie Bergmann, and Ryan, Scott and Grant Schroeder.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Lorraine Gorney and Barbara Ritter.
Services were held Jan. 19, 1999. at St. Michael's Catholic church in Craig. Burial was at the Craig Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary of Providence School for disabled children in Chicago in care of Grant Mortuary, 806 Ashley Court, Craig, Colo. 81625.

William L. Lansed
1913 1999
William L. Lansed of Craig, Colo., died Jan. 20, 1999, at Valley View Manor in Craig. He was 85.
On Nov. 26, 1913, in Newton, Mass., he was born the son of Louis W. and Alice (Cody) Lansed. He spent his childhood in the Boston area and was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard.
Lansed was a resident of Craig since 1978. He was a warehouse man for the power plant, retiring in 1986.
He is survived by a brother, John Lansed of Watertown, Mass.; and a sister, Alice Campbell of Weston, Mass.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and daughter, Karen, who died when she was 20.
Services were held Jan. 22, 1999, at Grant Mortuary. Burial was at the Craig Cemetery.

W.W. "Bill" Stevens
1899 1998
W.W. "Bill" Stevens, a former resident of Craig, Colo., died Dec. 27, 1998, in the Delta County Memorial Hospital in Delta, Colo. He was 99.
On April 5, 1899, in Sheridan, Kan., he was born the son of Will and Mattie Sue (Talkington) Stevens.
On Feb. 21, 1920, in Hoxie, Kan., he married Affie Faye Cressler. They moved from Kansas in 1926 to Craig where they lived until 1955.
He is survived by daughter, Eileen Reece of Delta; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Lee Roy Stevens; one grandson; and one great-great-grandson.
Services were held Jan. 2, 1999, at the Delta Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Burial was at the Delta City Cemetery.

Douglas Donald Blake
1953-1999
Douglas Donald Blake of Elko, Nev., died Feb. 17, 1999, at Battle Mountain, Nev. He was 45.
On March 8, 1953, in Hayden, Colo., Blake was born the son of Donald F. and Olive Dean (Kitchens) Blake.
On Nov. 9, 1996, in Battle Mountain, he married Mary Ober. He was a heavy equipment operator in construction.
Blake is survived by his wife; mother, who lives in Hayden; brothers, Kirk Blake of Rock Springs, Wyo., and Steven (Holly) Blake of Denver; nine step-children, Jean Grunewald of Aberdeen, Md., Janice Fields of Storden, Minn., Ernest Grunewald of Jeffers, Minn., Kevin Grunewald of Jeffers, Minn., Kim Licht of Roundlake, Minn., Julie Reynolds of Worthington, Minn., Lila Christensen of Okabena, Minn., Brice Licht of Gillette, Wyo., and Shawn Licht of Windom, Minn. He is also survived by 22 step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Services were held March 4, 1999, at Hayden Congregational Church. Pallbearers were Don Johnson,
Frank Franco, Butch Kitchens, Bill Colter, Frank Fox and Olin Kenward.
Burial was at the Hayden Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hayden Congregational Church in care of Grant Mortuary.

Lloyd Eugene Satterwhite
1928-1999
Lloyd Eugene Satterwhite died March 4, 1999, in Craig, Colo. He was 71.
On July 5, 1928, in Blair, Neb., Satterwhite was born the son of James S. and Bashella (Gregg) Satterwhite.
On June 13, 1953, he married Ardith Jones Ruggles.
After working for Armour in Sioux City, Iowa, for 25 years, Lloyd and family moved to Pomeroy, Iowa, where he owned and operated Lloyd's Locker and Grocery. After losing his eyesight, he worked part-time in gun stores in Iowa, Nevada and California.
Satterwhite was a veteran of the Korean conflict, a member of the DAV, American vets, BAV, American Legion and Kiwanis. He was also a member of the United Church of Christ in Pomeroy, Iowa.
In 1990 Satterwhite moved to Craig. He has been a resident of Valley View Manor since 1995.
Satterwhite is survived by his wife; children, Evelyn Ruggles Council, Kate (Jeff) LeWarne, Laurel Satterwhite, Lloyd (Pam) Satterwhite, Bob (Peggy) Satterwhite and David (Sharla) Satterwhite, 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by four half-brothers and one half-sister.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert, Roy, Wilford and Milford; sisters, Ruth Mace, Buelah Tomasson and Ruby Workman; one half-brother; and one half-sister.
Honorary pallbearers were: Leroy Satterwhite, Richard Mace, Perry Mace, Forrest Tucker, Mike Jones and Jon Eyer.
Burial was at the Dakota City Nebraska Cemetery.

Velma Deaver
1901-1999
Velma Deaver of Craig, Colo., died Feb. 27, 1999, at Valley View Manor. She was 99.
On Dec. 31, 1901, in Meeker, Colo., Deaver was born the daughter of John Vernon and Elizabeth (Hodge) Burdick. She attended Meeker High School and attended a teacher's training course in Steamboat Springs, Colo.
On May 21, 1927, in Vernal, Utah, she married Hoyt Deaver. At the time she was a teacher in Rangely, Colo. She taught in the Craig school system for 25 years and altogether taught 47 years before retiring.
Deaver is survived by a son, Vernon Dean (Noriko) Deaver of Craig; three grandchildren, Jeanne L. Deaver of San Diego, Calif., Cheryl (Don) Braby of Denver, James D. Deaver of Ridgewood, N.J.; two great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Brian Braby of Denver; sisters, Ina Ewers of San Mateo, Calif., Katherine Willis of Gateway, Colo. and Vera Tagert of St. Augustine, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, parents, four brothers and three sisters.
Services were held March 5, 1999, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Pallbearers were Jim Deaver, Jim Powell, Ralph Paulson, David Pressley, Marion Jones and Tom Maneotis. Interment was at the Highland Cemetery in Meeker.

Sarahelen Murphy Jensen
1919-1999
Sarahelen Murphy Jensen of Craig, Colo., died Feb. 26, 1999. She was 79.
On Oct. 24, 1919, in Denver, Jensen was born the daughter of Otto and Irene (Murphy) Doyle.
On June 14, 1943, she married Alvin T. Jensen in Longmont, Colo. They moved to the family homestead in Craig in 1943. She worked as a cook at the Cosgriff Hotel, Easley's Cafe and retired from the Village Inn.
Jensen is survived by her sons, James (Robin) Jensen and Alfred Joseph Jensen of Craig; two grandchildren, Jeremy James Jensen and Chico Woods of Craig; sisters, Elsie DeSamber of Fort Morgan, Colo., Beulah McHenery of Mira Loma, Calif., and Dollie Patterson of LaHarpe, Ill.; brothers, Pete Doyle of Everett, Wash., Art Doyle of Fort Morgan, Neil Doyle of Pueblo, Colo., and Jim Doyle of Walkerville, W.Va.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Richard.
Services were held at St. Michaels Catholic Church March 3, 1999. Burial was at the Craig Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Colorado Diabetes Foundation in care of Grant Mortuary.

Carl F. Seebaum
1913-1999
Carl F. Seebaum of Powell, Wyo., died Feb. 26, 1999, at Powell Hospital. He was 86.
He was born Jan. 25, 1913, in Craig, Colo., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Seebaum. He was graduated from Craig High School. On Oct. 14, 1933, in Craig, he married Theda Mae Green. He worked for Texaco for 41 1/2 years as a field foreman.
Seebaum is survived by his wife; daughters, Jo Ann (Norm) Simmons of Maybell, Colo., Lois (Herb) White of Hingham, Mont., and Alma Harris of Craig; brothers, Ray Seebaum of Douglas, Wyo., and Glen (Charleen) Seebaum of Laguna Hills, Calif.; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
At his request, there were no services. Cremation has taken place.

Sara Meta Young
1914-1999
Sara Meta Young of Craig, Colo., died Feb. 25, 1999, in Fort Collins, Colo. She was 85.
Young was born Feb. 23, 1914, in Moffat County the daughter of John M. and Lucy May (Linsley) McInturff.
She is survived by daughters, Shirley (Randy) Brooks of Fort Collins, Colo., and Nina (Art) Stevens of El Segundo, Calif.; son, Frank (Shirley) Henderson of Rawlins, Wyo.; two sisters, Mary Drolc of Craig and Jamie Thresa Solen of Caņon City, Colo., 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Young, three grandchildren, two sisters, one brother and her parents.
Services were held Feb. 28, 1999, at the First Baptist Church. Pallbearers were Wade Stevens, Edd Henderson, John S. McCaughan, Dan Henderson, Rob Henderson and John E. McCaughan Burial was at the Craig Cemetery.

Sally Jensen
Funeral services for Sally Jensen will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at St. Michaels Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Craig Cemetery. The vigil service will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Grant Mortuary. Family will receive friends beginning at 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Diabetes Foundation in care of Grant Mortuary.

Douglas Blake
Douglas Blake, formerly of Hayden, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, in Battle Mountain, Nev. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Hayden Congregational Church.

Velma Deaver
Velma Deaver, long time Craig resident, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, at Valley View Manor. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 5, 1999, at the Craig Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel. Interment will be in the Highland Cemetery in Meeker. Family will receive friends at Grant Mortuary from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Friday.

Nancy MacFarland
1952-1999
Nancy Ellen Foley MacFarland died Feb. 13, 1999, in a car accident on Rabbit Ears Pass east of Steamboat Springs, Colo. She was 47.
MacFarland was born Jan. 22, 1952, in Littleton, Colo., the daughter of Dr. Thomas and Katherine (Kelley) Foley.
MacFarland received her bachelor of science degree from Arizona State University in 1974 and interned at Oklahoma State University before becoming a registered dietitian.
On June 15, 1974, she married Scott MacFarland. They moved to Steamboat Springs in August 1978.
She worked in the Hayden School District as manager of the food program, served as dietitian at Routt Memorial Hospital and Extended Care Center in Steamboat Springs, was the dietitian at The Memorial Hospital in Craig and was dietary services department manager. She participated in many wellness efforts in the Craig area including the Community Wellness Team. She also saw patients at Kremmling Memorial Hospital. Many of her patients suffered from chronic illnesses and in order to provide better care, she became a certified diabetes educator in 1995. She was a member of the Routt Memorial Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation team and co-founder of the free diabetic clinic run by Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association. In association with the American Heart Association, she taught hundreds of people a healthy approach to weight loss through her popular "Slim for Life" classes.
MacFarland is survived by her husband; children; parents; sisters, Kathy (Jerry) Simmons of San Diego, Calif., Maureen (Mark) Shively of Castle Rock, Colo., and Mary Pat (Tony) Mazzola of Bennington, Vt.; brothers, Tom Foley and Holly Wells of Portland, Ore., Terry (Patti) Foley of Denver, Tim Foley and Nora Parsons of Bennington, Vt. and Dennis (Catherine) Foley of Buffalo, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jane.
Services were held Feb. 19, 1999, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Steamboat Springs. Burial was at the Hahn's Peak Cemetery.
Because McFarland suffered from uveitis, an inflammatory disease of the eye, a memorial fund has been set up at Community First National Bank, in care of Paul Clavadetscher, P.O. Box 772948, Steamboat Springs, CO 80477 for scientific research on uveitis.

Wanettia M. Pfifer
1926-1999
Wanettia M. Pfifer of Delta, Colo., died Feb. 26, 1999, in Craig, Colo. She was 72.
Pfifer was born Aug. 27, 1926, in Murphysboro, Ill., the daughter of James and Vestia Marie (Saylors) Clubb. She was married to Harold Pfifer.
She is survived by sons, Phillip Earl (Teresa) Pfifer of Naturita, Colo., Frank Michael (Loraina) Pfifer of Santa Anna, Calif., and Kenneth Robert (Valerie) Pfifer of Craig]; daughter, Patricia Marie (Bill) Maddox of Craig; brother, James E. Clubb of Loveland, Colo., sister, Charlotte Mae Phillips of Grand Junction, Colo.; 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Glora Lee Bartlett; and brother-in-law, John Bartlett.
Services were held March 3, 1999, with the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Delta, Colo. Burial was at the Olathe Cemetery in Olathe, Colo.

James Anthony Roberts
1963-1999
James Anthony Roberts of Meeker, Colo., died Feb. 12, 1999, near Columbus, Neb. He was 35.
On March 22, 1963, he was born in Colorado Springs, Colo. His family moved to Craig and he was graduated from Moffat County High School in 1983.
On Nov. 28, 1986, in Lakewood, Colo., he married Cora Lewis. He was employed by Roadrunner Trucking of Albuquerque, N.M., and co-owner of C&T Trucking of Craig.
Roberts is survived by his wife; daughter, Corine Olivia Roberts of Craig; sons, Kenneth Anthony Roberts of Fort Knox, Ky., and John Lee Roberts of Meeker; parents, James and step-mother, Sharon Roberts, of Winfield, Mo., and Ruth and step-father, Bill Snare, of Craig; grandmother, Pauline Jones of Craig; sisters, Paula DeGuire and Theresa (Tracy) Mack of Meeker; and brother, Michael Roberts of Grand Junction, Colo.
Services were held Feb. 19, 1999, at the First Christian Church. Pallbearers were Chris Chisholm, Brian Culverwell, Dennis Marchbanks, Don Marchbanks, Robert Peterson, James Wilder and Norman Culverwell.
Memorial donations may be made to the Wendy Schneider Cancer Fund in care of the Bank of Colorado.

James Robert Nissen
1931-1999
James Robert Nissen of Craig, Colo., died Feb. 18, 1999, at Porter Hospital in Denver. He was 67.
On Nov. 6, 1931, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Nissen was born the son of Fred and Byrdin (Bromley) Nissen.
On Feb. 19, 1983, he married Faye Smith of Craig.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eagles and Elks Club.
He worked as a tree surgeon and was an airplane pilot.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Bobby Jo Ivers of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; son, Steve (Holly) Ivers of Craig; stepdaughter, Jane Stone of LaCrosse, Wisc.; sister, Sue Nissen of Penrose, Colo., and grandchildren, Britteny and Brentien Ivers.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services were held Feb. 23, 1999, at the First Christian Church in Craig. Burial was at the Craig Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Care Center of Porter Hospital in care of Grant Mortuary.

Gene Higgins
1919-1999
Gene Higgins, formerly of Craig, Colo., died Jan. 25, 1999, in Louisville, Colo. He was 80.
On Sept. 26, 1919, in California, Mo., Higgins was born to Charley and Clara Higgins. He moved to Craig in 1949. Higgins worked at J.C. Penney's, Brinkley Hardware, sold cars at Buick Corral's Chevrolet and Chuck Conner's Cadilliac and then owned his own car lot.
He is survived by his wife, Lois; daughters, Lyn and Carol, and Debra (Tom) Maneotis of Craig; sons, Ron (Jeannie) Higgins of Craig, and Vern Higgins of Denver; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and great-granddaughter, Alish Higgins.
Memorial services were held Feb. 10, 1999, at the home of Tom and Debra Maneotis.

Ian Gavin Messer
1998-1999
Ian Gavin Messer of Craig, Colo., died Feb. 5, 1999, at The Memorial Hospital in Craig.
Messer was born Dec. 1, 1998, in Craig to Ian Daniel and Donitra Lynn (Tomlin) Messer.
Messer is survived by his parents; brother, Torin Daniel, 2; and grandparents, Darrell and Debbie Tomlin of Craig, Becky and Jeff Lakes of Ohio, Danny and Tonya Messer of Indiana, and Phyllis Carter of Indiana.
Services were held Feb. 10, 1999, at Grant Mortuary. Burial was at the Craig Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Ray Reed, Nick Yarbrough, Mike Johannas and Ron Wyatt.

Curtis Temples
1927-1999
Curtis Temples of Meeker, Colo., died Feb. 6, 1999, in an auto accident 30 miles north of Meeker. He was 71.
Temples was born Oct. 18, 1927, to Gladys and Sally Temples. He was raised in Talco, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.
Temples married Bobbie Brown, later divorced.
He is survived by sons, Jeff and Tim Temples of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; daughters, Patsy Carnes of Mt. Pleasant, Paula Reeves of Stamps, Ark., JoDee Parrin of Mt. Pleasant, and Kathy Collins of Dangerville, Texas; brothers, Sam (Elsie) Temples of Longview, Texas, and Taylor (Norma) Temples of Vernal, Utah; sisters, Dorothy Lewis of Houma, La., Thelma (Ralph) Thomas of Topock, Ariz., and Eris (Art) Blazk of Fowler, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bud Lee and Joe Temples.

Funeral services for Nancy MacFarland will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 1999, at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Steamboat Springs.

Wilma L. Hinkle
1933-1999
Wilma L. Hinkle of Hayden, Colo., died at her home Jan. 29, 1999. She was 65.
On Sept. 27, 1933, in Steamboat Springs, Colo., she was born the daughter of Ted Barnes and Rose Bradford.
On July 27, 1960, in Louisville, Colo., she married Chester Morris Hinkle Sr.
She is survived by her husband; daughter, Linda L. (Gary) Watters of Brookings, S.D.; sons, Lonnie L. (Rose) Fread of Federated States of Micronesia, and Chester M. Hinkle Jr. of Hayden; sisters, Audrey Smith of Fremont, Neb., and Edna Mae Kinsey of Texarkana, Texas; brother, Richard Barnes of Grand Junction, Colo.; and grandchildren, Melissa, Sara and Andrew Watters, and Venessa and Arthur Fread.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Etta Jean; son Marty; and two grandchildren Amber, and Brandon.
Services were held Feb. 3, 1999, at Hayden Congregational Church. Burial was at the Hayden Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Chester M. Hinkle Jr., Terrial Hinkle, Weldon Hinkle, Lonnie Fread, Eldon Hinkle and Edwin Hinkle. Honorary pallbearers were: Russel Hinkle and Bobby Joe Hinkle.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Grant Mortuary.

Dorothy Ruth Reglin
Funeral services for Dorothy Ruth Reglin of Craig will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Interment will follow in the Craig Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the ECW women's group at St. Mark's Church in care of Grant Mortuary.
