Joe R. Perez
1912-1999
Joe R. Perez of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., formerly of Craig, Colo., died June 18, 1999, at Platte Valley Medical Center in Brighton, Colo. He was 87.
On Feb. 24, 1912, in Blanco, N.M., he was born the son of Andy and Vicentita (Arminta) Perez.
In 1930 in Durango, Colo., he married Tomasita Martinez.
Perez lived in Craig for 50 years where he worked as a cattle rancher. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Craig. For the past three years, Perez had lived in Lake Havasu City.
Perez is survived by his daughter, Aurelia "Penny" Beyers of Lake Havasu City; son, Ray Perez of Craig; and brother, Henry Perez of Montrose, Colo. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1988 and son, David Perez,in 1988.
Services were held June 22, 1999, at Rice Mortuary in Brighton.

Edith S. Benson
1914-1999
Edith S. Benson of Craig, Colo., died July 13, 1999, at The Memorial Hospital in Craig. She was 85.
On Jan. 15, 1914, in Dodge City, Kan., she was born the daughter of Fred and Frences (Wright) Simmons.
She attended nursing school in Santa Barbara, Calif. She has lived in Colorado since 1945 and Craig since 1984.
She married Jack W. Benson, who died in 1949.
Benson is survived by her sons, Jack (Donna) Benson of Craig and Gary (Gayle) Benson of Paso Robles, Calif.; daughter, Jean (Richard) Henderson of Craig; brother, Jim (Mildred) Simmons of LaLuz, N.M.; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one sister.
Services were held July 16, 1999, at Crown Hill Cemetery in Denver.
Memorial donations may be made to the Young Life organization in care of Grant Mortuary.

Allie Eiltz
Allie Eiltz of Craig, Colo., died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at Valley View Manor. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 1999, at Calvary Baptist Church in Craig.
Interment will follow in Hayden Cemetery.

Florence Blackburn
Memorial services for Florence Blackburn will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 1999, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church at 700 Barclay St. in Craig.

Alvin Joseph "Al" Martin
1935-1999
Alvin Joseph "Al" Martin of Craig, Colo., died June 27, 1999, at Porter Hospital in Denver. He was 63.
On Oct. 24, 1935, in Steamboat Springs, Colo., Martin was born the son of Alvin J. Martin Sr. and Emily (Jackson) Martin.
On Nov. 6, 1986, in Craig, he married Penny Blevins.
Martin is survived by his wife; sons, Lance Mossman of Craig, and Kelly Mossman of Denver; daughters, Mary Martin of Denver, and Kelly Hunscher of San Francisco, Calif.; sister, Madge Pleasant of Craig; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Services were held July 2, 1999, at Grant Mortuary Chapel in Craig. Honorary pallbearers were Kelly Mossman, Frank Levkulich, Tom Jackson, Lance Mossman, Ron Golden, Jim Simos and Dick Winder.
Services concluded at the mortuary.

Howard and Edna Hageman
Friends of the late Howard and Edna Hageman will gather to celebrate the Hagemans' lives and scatter their ashes from the top of Baker's Peak at Robertson Spring at 10 a.m. Sunday. Dean W. Clow
1928-1999
Dean W. Clow, formerly of Craig, Colo., died July 25, 1999. He was 71.
He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force from 1946 to 1955.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Clow; sons, Jim (Sandi) Raudonis, Larry (Norma) Raudonis and Randy Raudonis; and daughters, Deanna (Michael) Smulterowicz, Denise Clow and Doreen (Mark) Atwood. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Anna Clow.
Services were held at the Anderson Memorial Chapel in Romeoville, Ill.

Ruby M. Rogers
1917-1999
Ruby M. Rogers of Hayden, Colo., died July 18, 1999, at Routt Memorial Hospital in Steamboat Springs, Colo. She was 81.
On July 29, 1917, in Victor, Kan., she was born the daughter of Roy S. and (Nancy Widger) Dunckley. She moved to Routt County with her family in 1936.
On Sept. 14, 1937, in Craig, Colo., she married Wilbur L. Rogers. Ruby Rogers was a foster mother to many children. She lived in Hayden, Colo., for the last nine years.
She is survived by daughters, Janet Ozbun of Hayden, and Lynda (Calvin) Anthony of Grand Junction, Colo.; son, William D. (Janice) Rogers of Hayden; sisters, Wilma Frost of Craig and Dorothy Pearcy of Fort Collins, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, twin sisters, two sons, Harry and Jerry, and one grandchild.
Services were held July 25, 1999, at Hayden Congregational Church. Pallbearers were Tom Rogers, Bruce Rogers, Duane Rogers, Troy Anthony, Bob Rogers, Ronald Rogers and Eddie Anthony. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Perry, Bobby Robinson, Sr. and Perly Green.
Interment was at Hayden Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Routt County Council on Aging in care of Grant Morturay in Craig.

Wilbur E. Stirling
1914-1999
Wilbur E. Stirling, formerly of Craig, Colo., died at his home in Sedona, Ariz., May 5, 1999. He was 84.
On July 31, 1914, he was born in Craig.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elaine Stirling; son, Gene (Valerie) Stirling and children, Robert and Cynthia of Lakeside, Ariz.; daughter, Renis (Paul) Duchanne and children, Sara, Desiree and Ned of Escondido, Calif; and one sister, Mary Ellen Day.
Memorial services were held May 22, 1999, at Red Rock Memorial Masonic Temple in Sedona.
Donations may be made to: Masonic Charities of Arizona, 345 W. Monroe, Phoenix, AZ 85003, or the charity of the donor's choice.

Maylon Foster

Bette Jane Rothermel
1926-1999
Bette Jane Rothermel of Phoenix, Ore., formerly of Craig, Colo., died July 14, 1999, at Three Fountains Nursing Home in Medford, Ore. She was 73.
On Jan. 26, 1926, in Franklin, N.H., she was born the daughter of Lional Al and Olive M. (Swain) Dickerson.
On Feb. 11, 1972, in Craig, Colo., she married John Rothermel.
She is survived by her husband; daughters, Tracy Lynn Harris of California, Donna Nudd of Montana, Kerri Herring of Oregon, and Rhonda Kay Kalista of California; sister, Melissa Benfeld of California; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Von Dudley; sister, Olive Nudd; and son, Howard Wayne Kalista.
Services were held at the First Baptist Church of Phoenix July 17, 1999, with burial at Eagle Point Veterans National Cemetery.

Helen B. Cox
1916-1999
Helen B. Cox of Craig, Colo., died July 16, 1999, at her home. She was 82.
On July 19, 1916, in Oshkosh, Neb. She was born the daughter of Jack and Della May (Blausey) Woodworth.
On July 31, 1939, in Oshkosh, she married Melvin H. Cox.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Richard (Sherry) Cox and Delbert (Cheryle) Cox of Craig; and daughter, Donna (George) Griffiths of Craig; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Lola Cox.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, James and Harold; brother, John; and sister, Pearl.
Services were held July 20, 1999, at the Church of God.
Pallbearers were: Melvin Cox, Rusty Cox, Michael Cox, Jimmy Cox, Gerald Cox and Ronald Cox.
Interment was at Craig Cemetery.

Lawrence Murl Prather
1917-1999
Lawrence Murl Prather died July 19, 1999, at his home in Uintah, Utah. He was 81.
On July 26, 1917, in Craig, Colo., he was born the son of Alta Talkington and Jesse Prather. He was graduated from high school in Craig. He worked on the farm and in the coal mines. He served as an aircraft mechanic in the U.S. Navy Air Corps. He was stationed in Alaska and Hawaii flying in reconnaissance aircrafts during World War II. Following the war, he worked as an aircraft mechanic and inspector at Hill Air Force Base for more than 30 years.
In 1945 he married Goldie Leona Pugh. This marriage lasted until 1972.
In 1973, in the Ogden Temple, he married Inez Taylor.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Larry Prather of Lyman, Wyo., Thomas Prather of Lava, Idaho, Neil Prather of Willard, Utah, and Jory Prather of Lebanon, Ind.; stepchildren, Joyce Beutler, Muriel Proctor and William Jacobs, all of Ogden, Utah, Mary Jean Harline of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Steven Jacobs of Rocklin, Calif.; two brothers, Kenneth Prather of Casper, Wyo., and Lyle Prather of Craig, Colo.; and sisters, Edna Paulson, Florence Vantassel and Montie Burgess all of Craig.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Keith Prather.
Graveside services will be held at noon July 26, 1999, at the Leavitt Cemetery, 836 36th St., in Ogden. Friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 25 and from 11 a.m. to noon July 26 at the Chapel of Flowers, 836 36th St.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or for Alzheimer's research.

Wilbur E. Stirling
1914-1999
Wilbur E. Stirling of Sedona, Ariz., died May 5, 1999, at his home. He was 84.
He was born July 31, 1914, in Craig, Colo.

Ray Arthur Hobson
1926-1999
Ray Arthur Hobson of Craig, Colo., died Oct. 27, 1999, west of Maybell, Colo. He was 72.
On Dec. 20, 1926, in Blackfoot, Idaho, he was born the son of Arthur Ray and Lenora Bertha (McClure) Hobson. He served in the U.S. Army at the end of World War II.
On June 24, 1946, in Tacoma, Wash., he married Dorthy E. Olson. He worked for Sears Roebuck Company for many years and was the minister of the Maybell Bible Church.
Hobson is survived by his wife, Dorthy; daughter, Judy (Robert) Attaway of Stockton, Calif; sons, Ray Hobson Jr. of Stockton and Steven (Lillie) Hobson of Stockton; sister, Stella Hobson of Maybell; brothers, Bill Hobson of Maybell and Ben Koch of Stockton, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services were held Nov. 1, 1999, at Maybell Bible Church. Pallbearers were Don Seick, Bob Harding, Don Turner, Dave O'Conor, Wilson Morris and Don Black. Interment was at Maybell Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Maybell Bible Church in care of Grant Mortuary.

Steven Lord

Funeral services for Steven Lord will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 22, 1998 at the First Christian Church. Interment will follow in the Craig Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the family in care of Grant Mortuary.

Patrick C. Sullivan

1936 - 1998

Patrick C. Sullivan died May 1, 1998, at the Pioneers Hospital in Meeker. He was 62.

Sullivan was born, the youngest of 13 children, to Brendan Patrick and Mary (Marshall) Sullivan Jan. 23, 1936, on Williams Fork near Pogoda, Colo.

He attended school in Meeker graduating from Rio Blanco High School in 1954. He was very active in high school athletics, lettering in football, basketball and track. In 1954 he set the Meeker High School shot put record with a throw of 47'10'.' His record was broken in 1987.

He spent two years in the U.S. Army where he was a member of the Mountain and Cold Weather Training Command. After his discharge he attended Colorado State College of Education at Greeley, Colo., graduating with a degree in education.

Sullivan married Nancy Nichols Dec. 28, 1958, in Glenwood Springs, Colo. They had two sons, Brendan Matthew and James Tad.

Sullivan taught biology and woodworking for one year in Craig, Colo. He moved to Cortez where he coached football, wrestling, biology and physical science. After three years in Cortez the family returned to Craig, where he sold mutual funds and life insurance for Waddell and Reed for two years.

In 1965 he moved back to Meeker and went to work for Reg Nichols Sales and Service. In 1971, he bought and ran the dealership until his son, Brendan, took over in 1987. He then started a medical supply and oxygen business called Reg Nichols Sales, which was later sold to his sons.

Sullivan was active in the Meeker freestyle wrestling program. He later became interested in raising and training Arabian horses and was well known for his training methods.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons, Brendan (Sharon) Sullivan and James (Cathy) Sullivan of Meeker; grandchildren, Kylen and Kendra Sullivan, Barny, Isaac, Andrea, Nicole and Joe Leblanc of Meeker, and Tara Beard of Clearfield, Utah; sisters, Cecelia Knott of Craig and Jeannette Gruber of Colorado Springs, Colo.; brothers, Tom Sullivan of San Diego, Calif., Francis Sullivan of Meeker, Byron J. Sullivan of Dillon, Mont., Melvin D. Sullivan of Delta, Colo., Milton C. Sullivan of Williams Fork, Colo., and Dr. James L. Sullivan of Golden, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mary Yoast, and brothers Brendan, Roger and Patrick Sullivan.

Services were held at Saint James' Episcopal Church in Meeker May 7, 1998, with interment at the Sullivan Ranch on Williams Fork.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Pat Sullivan Memorial Fund and may be sent to the Meeker Mortuary, P.O. Box 1048 in Meeker or to Nancy Sullivan, P.O. Box 898 Meeker, CO. 81640

Henry August Brown 1928 -1998

Henry August "Hank" Brown died at his home March 19, 1998, in Johnson, Kan. He was 69.

Brown was born to August and Grace (Coker) Brown June 2, 1928, in Dodge City, Kan.

He was in the U.S. Army and an active member of the American Legion.

He married Carrie Darlene Forpahl August 12, 1960, at Raton, N.M.

He lived in Craig from 1975 to 1985 working as a heavy equipment mechanic at Trapper Mining Company.

He is survived by daughters, Cheryl Sullivan from Newton, Kan. Renee Brown from Salina, Kan., and Stacey Brown from Lakin, Kan.; son Henry F. Brown from Houston; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Alma Whitman from Garden City, Kan., Wilma Ashton from Larned, Kan., Alice Whitehead from Seattle, Lola Eiklier from Woodland, Calif., and Lois Porter from Dighton, Kan.; and brother Don Brown from Park City, Kan.

Services were held at 2 p.m. April April 2, 1998, at Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in Johnson, with the Rev. David Kaufmann officiating. Pianist was Leila Hurlburt and singers were Renee Brown & Cheryl Sullivan who sang "Daddy's Hands."

Congregational song was "The Old Rugged Cross." Stacey Brown played "Amazing Grace" on the flute.

Honorary pallbearers were Steve Shepard, Grady Cook, Curtis Jones, Glen Teeter, Bennie Morgan, Marty Cook, Jerry Jones, Ken Tilley and Kent Beuchamp.

Cremation followed.

Memorials may be sent to the Hank Brown Memorial Fund or the VFW in care of Figgins-Phillips Funeral Home, 605 W. North Ave., Johnson, KS 67855.

Paul Carr

Past Craig resident Paul Carr died May 13, 1998, at his home in Henderson, Nev.

Carr attended school in Craig, graduating in 1955.

He is survived by his wife Peggy, four children, 13 grand children and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son and his parents, Skeet and Virginia Carr.

At his request no services will be held.

E. Eileen Beamer

1914 - 1998

E. Eileen Beamer of Maybell, Colo., died May 10, 1998, at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo. She was 83.

She was born to Icy E. Losh and Cora Mae Gordon on December 14, 1914, in Traer, Kan.

Beamer spent her childhood and school years in McCook, Neb.

She married William B. Beamer on Nov. 4, 1935, in Oberlin, Kan.

Beamer spent her life as a mother and homemaker, enjoyed crafts, crocheting, making greeting cards and playing bridge. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Elkettes and Womans Club, all in Rangely.

She was a resident of Maybell for the last seven years.

Beamer is survived by a son, Bill (Shirley) Beamer of Maybell; daughters, Rebecca Jackson of Grand Junction and Barbara Eileen Kranich of Arvada, Colo.; brothers, Russell Losh of Denver, Colo., and Willard "Bo" Losh of Cedaredge, Colo.

She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Dean Beamer, Niko and Kima Hall, Kobi Hall, Kali Nicholas, Keith Beamer, Toria Kranich and Trish Kranich; and three great-grandchildren Alicia Beamer, Blake Beamer and Cyrene Jane Hall.

Services were held at 3 p.m. May 13, 1998, at the Craig Cemetery and officiated by Bill Lyon, with a eulogy by Kali Nicholas.

Selections were "Amazing Grace" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" by soloist, Myke Hall.

Pallbearers were Mike Losh, Kima Hall, Darrell Ganskow, Kobi Hall, Keith Schubert, Niko Hall, Toria Kranich and Trish Kranich.

Honorary pallbearers were Dean Beamer, Tim Losh, Kali Nicholas, Keith Beamer, Billy Nicholas and Val Losh.

Interment was at the Craig Cemetery.
