Joe B. Martinez

Tribute: Joe Martinez was born to Marcelina (Griego) Martinez and Basilio Martinez in Bingham. When he was 5 years old, the family moved to the Greeley and La Salle area, where they worked as farmers.
As a young man, he returned to New Mexico. There he met and married Elizaida (Liz) Archuleta on May 13, 1939, in Koehler, N.M., and moved to Colorado, where he lived the rest of his life.
Joe had many careers in his lifetime: forester, railroad worker, maintenance specialist, but most of his life was spent as a farmer. He loved the land and had a green thumb, everything he planted flourished. He loved music and was a guitarist and a singer. He had a wonderful sense of humor and he loved to tell jokes and make people laugh.
He was a founding member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, and helped raise the funds to build the church and helped with the actual construction.
Joe leaves a loving legacy because of his generosity, his love of life and his commitment to his family. He was generous to a fault. Everyone who knew him knew they could count on him when they were in need. He would give you the shirt off his back with no question and no expectation of repayment.
His loving family is a testament to a life well-lived.
Survivors: His wife, Liz Martinez; daughters May Hendershot and her husband Gary of Greeley; Trudy Martinez and her husband Glen of Peyton; Kathy Martinez and her husband Jere; sons Bob Martinez and his wife Dolores of Denver; Art Martinez and his wife LaRue of Denver; Gene Martinez and his wife Janet of Loveland; John Martinez of Greeley; Phil Martinez and his wife Chris of Greeley; 26 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: His son Dave; his parents; four sisters; and four brothers.
Visitation: Recitation of the rosary at 7:30 p.m. today at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.
Funeral services: Mass of the Christian Burial, 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.
Interment: Linn Grove Cemetery

Jesucita "Louise" Trujillo Moreno

Tribute: Jesucita "Louise" Trujillo Moreno was born in Milliken to Louis Trujillo and Dora Duran Trujillo. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1964, and was awarded a scholarship to Hollywood Beauty School. She met her husband, Edward when she was 18-years-old. Shortly after beauty school, they were married on April 16, 1966.
She first started working at Colorado State University in Continuing Education in 1988. After 22 years, she retired in 2007 as a General Professional Grade IV at CSU.
She will be greatly missed by her friends and family. She will be remembered for her deep faith in the Lord and her love of sports. She was an avid fan of her children and grandchildren's sports, and the CSU women's volleyball and basketball.
Mrs. Moreno lost her courageous fight against cancer on Thursday.
Survivors: Her husband, Edward M. Moreno of Fort Collins; her parents, Louis and Dora Trujillo of Evans; two sons, Vincent Moreno and his wife Vicki of Loveland, Dale Moreno of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Kim Aguilar-Pauli and her husband Roger of Loveland; nine siblings, Leory Trujillo and his wife Mattie of Littleton, Danny Trujillo and his wife Janie of Greeley, Priscilla Guintana and her husband Fred of Greeley, Bill Trujillo and his wife Margie of Greeley, Therese Arreguin of Greeley, Darlene Trujillo of Johnstown, Andrew Trujillo and his wife Michelle of Evans, Gerri Stitt and her husband Tim of Greeley, Mark Trujillo and his wife Thea of Evans; six grandchildren, Austin, Cody, and Dylon Moreno, Javier Marcus and Isabella, Aguilar-Pauli; Edwards family, Rita Garcia and husband Andy of Fort Collins and Vera Moreno her mother-in-law.
Preceded in death by: Her sister, Patrica Trujillo; and father-in-law, Manuel Moreno.
Visitation: 12 - 5 p.m. today at Bohlender Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services: Recitation of rosary at 9:15 a.m. with Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Father Roger Lascelle will officiate at the services.

Dorothy Vaughan

Tribute: Dorothy Anna Vaughan was born in McCook, Neb., to Wilber and Bessie (Abbott) Fisk.
She married George L. Vaughan on Jan. 28, 1939, at Grand Island, Neb.
She graduated from McCook High School, and became a registered beautician. She then went into nursing and became a registered nurse. She was a nurse at the Fort Morgan Hospital when she married George.
Mrs. Vaughan loved to go ballroom dancing with her husband and they used to go to Greeley to go dancing at the Armory. They both loved to bowl, hunt and travel.
She was an awesome housewife, cook, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved to can and cook. She also loved her flowers and gardening. She was a Methodist.
Mrs. Vaughan died at her home in Eaton.
Survivors: Her children, Wilber Pat Vaughan, Melvyn and wife Judy Vaughan, all of Lakewood, and Kathy A. Vaughan of Eaton; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: Her parents; a brother, Charles Anders; and sisters, Francis Foster and Emily McLanghlin.
Memorial service: 10 a.m. Thursday in the Reflectory at Northern Colorado Crematory in Greeley.

Betty Baker

Tribute: Betty A. Baker, 78, of Cheyenne, formerly of Pierce.
She was born June 11, 1929, to William and Opal Ray in Rock Springs, Wyo. On Oct. 22, 1955, she married Thomas H. Baker in Cheyenne. She lived in Cheyenne for the past 22 years.
Mrs. Baker worked as a medical Tech for Pierce Medical Labs and was a real estate agent with Wallick & Volk.
Mrs. Baker was a member of Highlands United Presbyterian Church and of the Eaton Golf Club. She was a former Cub Scout den mother and a former member of the Pierce Town Council.
Mrs. Baker died Thursday at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.
Survivors: Her husband, Thomas H. Baker of Cheyenne; two sons, Hal Baker of Peetz and Tim Baker of La Salle; two brothers, William Ray of Denver and Wayne Ray of Louisiana; a sister, Marilyn Vickery, of Yuma, Ariz.; and three grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: Her parents, and a sister, Macille.
Memorial services: 1 p.m. today at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes with Rev. Don R. Chanslor officiating. Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.

Thomas Rulon

Tribune: Thomas H. Rulon was born to Harold and Annabel (Bullington) Rulon in Denver. He graduated from St. Joseph's High School in Denver in 1949. He served in the U.S. Navy 1950-1954 aboard the USS Platte and then served in the Navy Reserves 1955-1987 and then had an active duty tour 1987-1989 and retired from the Navy in 1989 as a CECS. While in the Navy, he received many decorations, medals, citations and campaign ribbons including the Navy Achievement Medal (2nd), Presidential Unit Commendation, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, China Service Medal, Korean Service Medal (2nd award), Vietnam Service Medal, Navy Occupational Medal, Navy Battle Efficiency Ribbon and a Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Rulon married Carrie Tindell in 1978. He had lived in Greeley for 20 years and Brush for eight years and recently moved to Evans. He worked for AT&T for 32 years before retiring in 1987.
Mr. Rulon was Catholic. He was a Boy Scout leader for 15 years, a youth baseball, basketball and soccer coach for many year and a member of the Telephone Pioneers, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and FRA. He was an avid coin collector. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and country music. His family referred to him as "Mr. Geography" because of his love for geography.
He died Saturday at his home after a near two-year battle with cancer.
Survivors: His wife, Carrie Rulon of Evans; three sons, Louis Rulon and wife Viola of Apache Junction, Ariz., Wes Rulon and wife Samantha of Littleton and Tom Rulon of Phoenix; three daughters, Jeannie Rondeau and husband Leonard, Monica Rulon and Michelle Rulon, all of Phoenix; nine grandchildren, Louis Rulon, Jennifer Rulon, Leonard Rondeau, David Rondeau, Amanda Prosser, Harley Groth, Henry Groth, Brooke Rulon and Cody Rulon; two great-grandchildren, Owen and Jessie Prosser; a brother, Harold Rulon and wife Mariane of Denver; and numerous nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers -in-law and many former coworkers and shipmates.
Preceded in death by: His parents and his brother, Louis Rulon.
Services: A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Inurnment will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area B.

Mary Spear

Tribute: Mary Frances Spear was born to Lee Foster and Marion VanSickle Foster Nold in Greeley, where she lived most of her life. She attended Greeley Public Schools and the University of Northern Colorado prior to marrying Tom Spear in 1938. They raised their three daughters in Greeley, where she was active in numerous civic organizations, including Greeley Hospital Auxiliary, PEO, DAR, and UNC Library Board. She loved to play bridge and follow college sports.
Her ancestors were an integral part of Greeley history. Her grandfather, George VanSickle, owned the first livery stable in Greeley in early 1900s, which later became the first car dealership. Her mother played violin with the first Philharmonic Orchestra in Greeley in 1912. Her husband's grandfather, George Spear, was one of the founders of the Greeley Gas Co. and the Independent Telephone Co.. Her husband's father, George Aubrey Spear, was a banker for 50 years at the former Greeley National Bank. Her husband was active in Greeley real estate for many years prior to his death in 1986.
After her husband's death, she moved to Arizona to join her daughter, Janet and her family. She enjoyed living in Leisure World for many years.
She will be remembered as a caring and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was "young at heart" and a great role model. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She died Friday at Hospice of the Valley in Mesa, Ariz.
Survivors: Three daughters, Judy Hanson-Weickum of Cheyenne, Jane Hoyman of Des Moines, Iowa, and Janet DeLand of Mesa; two granddaughters, Allison Barkley and Lindsay Hansen of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and two grandsons, Jeff Hanson and Rick Hanson of Colorado; and eight great-grandchildren.
Service: 11 a.m. today, Mariposa Gardens, 6747 E. Broadway Road, Mesa, Ariz.

Nellie Mae Rine

Tribute: Mrs. Rine was born at her home near Vernon to Frank A. and Anna S. (Ward) Huffman.
On March 16, 1933, she married Marion H. Rine in Denver.
Mrs. Rine grew up on a farm near Vernon. She graduated from Wray High School in 1932. After graduation she helped on her family farm. After her marriage, they lived in Wray. They later lived in Otis. After the death of her husband on May 17, 1988, she moved to Greeley.
She was a member of the Peniel Church of the Nazarene, near Otis. Later attending the Brush Church of the Nazarene. She was also a member Otis Bible Missionary Church. She was currently a member for the Greeley Bible Missionary Church.
She was a lifetime member and state president for many years for Women's Christian Temperance Union.
She loved to sew and made clothing for her family. She loved to play the organ and piano. She learned to knit after her family was raised and won a blue ribbon at the Washington County Fair, Akron, when she was in 90s for her knitting. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading the Bible.
She was a resident at Fairacres Manor for the past year. She loved family time, especially with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She died Friday in the Hospice and Palliative Care inpatient unit of Hospice of Northern Colorado in Greeley.
Survivors: Three daughters, Laura Harding and husband Harold of Greeley, Doris Sholly and husband David of Bethany, Okla. and Joy Young and husband Rondald of Carson, Iowa; three sons, M. LeRoy Rine and wife Darleen of Castle Rock, Theodore "Ted" Rine and wife Opal of Eckert and Dale Rine and wife Claudia of Loveland; a brother, Lee Huffman of Greeley; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: A sister, Marie Amendola; three brothers, Clyde Huffman, Ralph Huffman and Earnest Huffman; two great-grandsons, Jason and Joshua Harding.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Stoddard Funeral Home.
Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Stoddard.
Interment: Otis Cemetery in Otis.
