Tribute: Michael Allen George was born in Spokane, Wash., to Alex and Grace George.
Mr. George was most recently employed as an over-the-road driver for DSCO/Navajo. He spent most of his life as a driver and found much peace being on the road and experiencing the sights the country has to offer. His wife, Edith, had the pleasure of accompanying him on some of his cross-country adventures.
Mr. George died of cancer Saturday at his home.
Survivors: His wife, Edith of Evans; two daughters, Nicole Seymour and husband Gary of Meridian, Idaho, and Janiel Durnen and husband Direk of Janesville, Wis.; a sister, Betty Wilson and husband Larry of Erie; four grandchildren, Brooklyn Seymour, and Jacob, Devin and Megan Durnen; two stepsons, John and Jeff Smith; several nieces; and a cousin, Donnie Nation of Sterling.
Preceded in death by: His parents; a brother, Alex, Jr.; and two sisters, Carol and Mary.
Services: Memorial services were Tuesday at the Northern Colorado Crematory, Greeley.
Clyde Guenther
Nov. 25, 1919-Nov. 15, 2007

Residence: Greeley
Tribute: Clyde H. Guenther was born in Concordia, Mo., to William H. and Ida Nell (Bordgstadt) Guenther. Raised and educated in Missouri, he received his bachelor’s degree from William Jewell University in Liberty, Mo. During 1941-42, he taught social science and coached boys basketball and baseball at the high school in Knob Noster, Mo.
Mr. Guenther was drafted into the U.S. Army in June 1942. After completing basic training, he was assigned to the 323th Infantry Regiment of the 81st Infantry Division, where he served as squad leader of a light mortar squad. He participated in the Southern Philippines and Western Pacific campaigns. In 1944, his unit was part of the invasion of the Palau Islands. During his service, he was awarded two Bronze Stars, the Combat Infantryman Badge and Good Conduct Medal and authorized to wear the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Ribbon and Victory Ribbon.
After being honorably discharged in January 1946, Mr. Guenther returned to a teaching position in Missouri, where he met Doris Brock. They were married Aug. 17, 1947.
Mr. Guenther was a dedicated teacher and student. He continued his education and earned two master’s degrees from Iowa University, one in history and the other in physical education. In 1958, he moved his family to Greeley. He taught history and coached track and cross-country at Greeley Central High School for more than 25 years before retiring in 1982.
A member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Greeley, Mr. Guenther sang in the church choir for many years. He was fond of listening to classical music and reading books on history. He enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Cardinals fan. He was quick-witted and loved playing Trivial Pursuit.
Mr. Guenther died Nov. 15 at the Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado inpatient unit, Greeley. A loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he will be missed by all.
Survivors: His wife of 60 years, Doris Guenther of Greeley; four daughters, Sue Petersen and husband Ron of Pine, LuJean Ott and husband Mike, LeaAnn Rettele and husband Terry and Rachel Guenther, all of Greeley; three grandchildren, Lindsey Ireland of Greeley, Alex Guenther of Lakewood and Mark Petersen, also of Greeley; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Bryce Ireland, both of Greeley.
Preceded in death by: His parents and two brothers, Lawrence and Ralph.
Services: Celebration of life, 2 p.m. Friday at First United Presbyterian Church, 1321 9th Ave., Greeley. Cremation.

Thelma Johnson

Tribute: Thelma May Johnson was born in Akron to Riley and Hattie (Horton) Stevens.
On Feb. 16, 1941, she married Herman LeRoy “Ole” Johnson. He died March 11, 1991.
Mrs. Johnson moved from Akron at the age of 2 to Greeley where she graduated from Greeley High School and then moved to the Eaton area. She was a homemaker, raising her children. She was a member of the Eaton Congregational Church, Eaton Country Club and Women’s Golf Association, involved in Weld County Extension Homemakers and a member of different bowling leagues. In her younger years, she also was very active with the Elks Club. She was a world traveler and loved playing cards, enjoyed golfing, and taking care of her gardens around her home. She also loved to gamble in Las Vegas.
Mrs. Johnson died Monday at Bonell Good Samaritan Community, Greeley.
Survivors: Her sons, A. Bruce Johnson and wife Diane of Eaton and Charlie Johnson and wife Dorothy of Aurora; a daughter, Joyce Nelson and husband Chuck of Cheyenne; a brother, Clarence “Hap” Stevens of Mission Viejo, Calif.; a sister, Ruby Lofgren of San Carlos, Calif.; former daughters-in-law, Janet Johnson of Greeley and Dianne Halwag of Julesburg; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: Her parents; her husband; two brothers, Bill and Ray Stevens; and two sisters, Leona Briscoe and Clara Ellen Gilford.
Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Allnutt Funeral Service Macy Chapel.
Interment: Eaton Cemetery.

Grace Scott

Tribute: Grace E. Scott was born near Rago to Oscar T. and Lois (England) Evans. Due to her mother's failing health, Grace stayed home when she was a teenager to care for her younger siblings. On Dec. 27, 1933, she married Ralph J. Scott in Sterling. After farming for several years, the Scotts moved to Fort Morgan where Mrs. Scott helped her husband operate the Allis Chalmer Tractor Agency. In 1942, the Scotts moved to Kremmling. In 1945, they came back to farm near Gary. In 1950, they moved to Brush where they owned and operated the Ralph J. Scott Electric Company.
Mrs. Scott enjoyed working with her husband. She was a member of Royal Neighbors. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
She died Thursday at the North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley.
Survivors: One son, Claire Scott and his wife Nan, of Greeley; three grandchildren, Michelle Scott of Eaton, Douglas Scott and his wife Jennifer of Colorado Springs, and Craig Scott and his wife Jennifer of Evans; and six great-grandchildren, Ashley Scott of Midland, Texas, Curtis, Amber and Easten Scott of Evans, and Jordan and Aidan Scott of Colorado Springs.
Preceded in death by: her husband; two sons, Merlyn and Lyle; eight brothers and sisters; and her parents.
Funeral Services: 1:30 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, 1701 Edmunds St. in Brush. Interment will follow in the Brush Memorial Cemetery. The Heer Mortuary and Crematory of Brush is in charge of arrangements.
Mary Weppner
Jan. 13, 1933-Nov. 24, 2007

Tribute: Mary Darling Jordeth Weppner was born in Watertown, S.D. to Miles Emery Darling and Nellie Van Gilder Darling. She was raised in Bradley, S.D. and graduated from Bradley High School. She attended Northern Teachers College and taught at Campbell country school.
On June 27, 1952, she married O. M. “Bud” Jordeth. They settled in Selby, S.D. in 1956. They had two daughters, Laurie and April. Mary was a homemaker and church secretary. The family moved to Fort Collins in 1970.
Mary was in property management for 22 years, managing Village Gardens Apartments in Fort Collins for several years.
Mary and Bud divorced in 1976. Bud died in 2000. She met and married Dan Weppner of Greeley on Nov. 25, 1989. Dan died on March 7, 1991. Mary was retired and enjoyed traveling to Texas to visit her grandchildren.
She died Saturday at her home following a brief illness.
Survivors: Her daughters, Laurie Stone of Fort Collins and April West and husband Kevin of Grand Prairie, Texas; grandson, Christopher Stone and wife Rachyl, and great grandchildren, Lexy and Casey of Watagua, Texas; and grandson Daniel West (her special boy) of Grand Prairie; stepdaughter, Dani Hoefer and husband Ted of Longmont; step-grandchildren, Lisa Boyd and husband Aaron Morris of Denver and Jim Boyd of Greeley. Also surviving are brothers and sisters-in-laws, Walter and Dora Darling of North Freedom, Wisc., David and Karen Darling of Watertown, Mike and Joyce Darling of Deadwood, S.D., Steve and Pat Darling, Mark and Carol Darling, Roger and Penny Darling, and Paul and Sylvia Darling all of Aberdeen, S.D.; sister, Jeanette and Gary Buchele of Aberdeen; sister-in-law, Vera and Jerome Osness of Groton, S.D.; brother-in-law, Tom Weisgram of Java, S.D.; 29 nieces and nephews, 41 grand-nieces and nephews; and five great-grandnieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: Two husbands; her parents; grandparents; one brother; one sister; three nephews and one niece.
At Mrs. Weppner’s request, a casual celebration of her life will be held from 2-5 p.m. Thursday at Tres Margaritas in Fort Collins.

Eleanor M. Carmolli

Tribute: Eleanor M. Carmolli was born in Newport, Vt., to Grace Briggs Hill and Ami Hill. She graduated from Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing in Boston, Mass. After graduation, she was an instructor in the nursing arts at the school. Mrs. Carmolli was head of the school of nursing and director of nursing at the Barre City Hospital in Barre, Vt., for 24 years. She received her bachelor of science degree in nursing from the University of Vermont. Ms. Carmolli later became the assistant director of nursing at the St. Petersburg Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla.
She married Arthur I. Dyke in April 1936. He died in 1948. She then married Robert Diack of Barre, Vt., in September 1956, and he died in 1972. Ms. Carmolli married Gino Carmolli in 1986. She was a good nursing administrator and a devoted and loving mother.
She died Nov. 16 at the Columbine West Care and Rehab Center in Fort Collins.
Survivors: Her son, Vernon Dyke and his wife Susan of Windsor; three grandchildren, Catherine Gilmore and her husband Jed of Salt Lake City, Utah, Peter Dyke and his wife Annette of Fort Collins, and Stephen Dyke and his wife Susanne of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; two stepsons, Nick Terry and Gino Terry; two stepdaughters, Wendy Gibson and her husband Richard and Nan Carmolli; a sister, Irene Columbo of Williamstown, Vt.; a niece, Carole Couture of East Barre, Vt.; four great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; and numerous step-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: Her husbands; a stepdaughter Sandra Carmolli Fitzgerald and a brother, Vernon Hill of Cranston, R.I.
Funeral services: 4 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church in Fort Collins. A light reception will follow in the church hall.

Veronica Ann French

Tribute: Veronica Ann French was born in Swift County, Minn., to Linus and Cora (Heckart) Saunders. She was raised on a farm with eight siblings. She spent her high school years and one year of normal school in Benson.
Mrs. French married Harold John French on June 17, 1939. She taught seven years as a rural school teacher in Pope and Swift counties in Minnesota. She lived with her husband in Greeley, Gilcrest and La Salle until he died on May 30, 1980. Mrs. French sold her home in La Salle in 2001 and lived with her children in Idaho, Arizona and Evans.
She lived through the Great Depression, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam Conflict, Desert Storm and 9/11. Mrs. French witnessed the invention of radio, television, jet airplanes, nuclear subs, space travel, satellite communications and the Internet. She lived through 17 presidents, rock 'n' roll, Woodstock, and saw Alaska and Hawaii become states.
Mrs. French attended church and worked full time at four different jobs for 40 years.
She died Nov. 20 in Evans.
Survivors: Two daughters, Eualine Brown and husband Gene of Evans, and Judy Wixson and husband Bruce of Boise, Idaho; two sons, Bob French and wife Gail of Evans, and Dick French and wife Ronni of Peoria, Ariz.; three sisters, Marjorie Wakeman, Betty Bauman and Agnes O'Malley; a brother, James Saunders; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: Her parents; her husband; three sisters, Eleanor Kvam, Benice Kelso and Mary Dalman; and a brother, John Saunders.
Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Stoddard Funeral Home.
Funeral services: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Interment will follow a Mass of Christian Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Fred Earl Lorenz

Tribute: Fred Earl Lorenz was born in Brookville, Kan., to Fred and Ethel (Bradford) Lorenz. He married Mary Kejr on June 28, 1958, in Salina, Kan. Mr. Lorenz worked in the salt mines in Lyons, Kan., and then moved to Tulsa, Okla., where he attended the Sparten Aviation School. He graduated in 1960. Mr. Lorenz was an airline mechanic, working on 727's for Continental Airlines for two years in Denver.
After Continental Airlines closed its Denver hub, he worked as a mechanic at night for TWA for five years, while dairy farming during the day. Mr. Lorenz left the airline industry because of heart problems, but continued dairy farming and truck gardening, while owning a small engine repair shop.
Mr. Lorenz semi-retired in 1985 and moved to Estes Park, where he owned a small woodworking shop. At the shop, he sold wooden clocks, tables and toys. Mr. Lorenz fully retired in 1993 in Loveland.
Survivors: Four daughters, Anita Shoemaker and her husband Lee of St. George, Kan., Lori Frick and her husband Rick of Platteville, Lila McConnell of Loveland, and Kendra Hahn and husband Jeff of Sterling; two sisters, Louise Armbrust and Pauline Lorenz, both of Brooksville, Kan.; and seven grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: His wife; his parents; and a sister, Ruth Armbrust.
Graveside services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
Gaylord L. Schulz
April 25, 1925-Nov. 25, 2007

Residence: Windsor
Tribute: Gaylord L. Schulz was born in Forman, N.D., to Carl A. and Esther (Pedersen) Schulz. He married Helen Wilson on Feb. 19, 1949, in Phoenix. They moved to Windsor in 2006 after living in Bend, Ore., since 1984.
A veteran of the United States Navy, Mr. Schulz worked as an electrical engineer for Mountain Bell. He was a member of the Northgate Church of Christ in Arvada. He loved fishing, outdoor activities, hunting, boating and riding dirt bikes. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his family.
He died Sunday at his home after a 12-year battle with cancer. His family was at his side.
Survivors: His wife, Helen of Windsor; a daughter, Cherryl and husband Kenny Tope of Windsor; two sons, Skeeter Schulz and Curt Schulz, both of Phoenix; two sisters, Inona Coburn and Doris Morris, both of Phoenix; two grandsons, Kory Tope and wife Brittany and Andrew Tope and wife Alayna, all of Windsor; and three great-grandchildren, Owen, Addison and Lucy, all of Windsor.
Preceded in death by: His parents and his brother, Bud Schulz.
Memorial services: 6 p.m. today at Westside Church of Christ in Golden, and at 10 a.m. Friday, at Shadow Mountain Mortuary in Phoenix. Inurnment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.

Timothy Sharp

Tribute: Timothy Lee Sharp was born in Winton, Minn., and graduated in 1968 from Memorial High School in Ely, Minn. He completed two years of Forestry Program at Vermilion Community College in Ely before serving in the Army from 1971-73. After graduating from the Minnesota Police Academy in 1973, he returned to Ely as a police officer.
On April 19, 1975, he married Julie Stone. They moved to Greeley the next year. He graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in December 1978 with a business management/administration degree.
Mr. Sharp was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church for more than 30 years. He served as a deacon and worked with boys' ministries. He was a member of Blue Knights, American Legion and several law enforcement associations.
Mr. Sharp was employed in banking for 10 years, but realized his heart was in law enforcement. He became a Weld County Deputy Sheriff in 1990 and completed his police officer training at Morgan Community College in Fort Morgan in July 1991.
Mr. Sharp received a Purple Heart in February 1995 for meritorious and conspicuous service. In 2004, he ended his career when his leukemia prevented him from continuing his work. He had a bone marrow transplant in December 2005.
He died Saturday at his home surrounded by his loving family.
His family's tribute says "Tim's quiet strength and courage have been an inspiration to many. He was thankful for each day, and his faith sustained him. Tim's family and friends take comfort that he is now with the Lord."
Survivors: His wife, Julie Sharp of Greeley; his daughter, Christy Aldridge and husband Jason, and granddaughters, Zoey and Mekenzie Aldridge, all of Greeley; his parents, Robert and Maxine Sharp of Ely, Minn.; three sisters, Rita Coay and husband Don of Ely, Amy Bishop and husband Dan of Duluth, Minn., and Brenda Hicks and husband William of Colorado Springs.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Community Ministries, 2307 17th Ave., Greeley. A family graveside service will be next summer in Minnesota.
