Le Roy Smith

Tribute: Le Roy Smith was born in Milford, Neb., to Clarence Smith and Ivy Irene (Howard) Smith. He was raised and educated in Milford and graduated from Milford High School in 1956. After graduation, he worked for Continental Bus Lines in Lincoln, Neb.
Mr. Smith married Lorraine Runty on Oct. 12, 1958, in Milford. After he was married, he started his career with State Farm Insurance in Lincoln. In 1963, Mr. Smith transferred to the newly opened State Farm Regional offices in Greeley. He was employed in the data processing department most of his career. Mr. Smith retired from State Farm Insurance Company in April 1998.
He was an active member of the First Assembly of God church in Greeley. He ran the bus ministry for the church from 1972 through 1982. Mr. Smith transported many boys and girls to church to attend Sunday school and worship services. He touched many lives with his ministry. He also served as a leader of the Royal Rangers, a scouting group sponsored by the Assemblies of God. Mr. Smith was a member of Computer Users Group of Greeley.
Mr. Smith was a caring and generous person, and he was a wonderful and loving husband, dad, grandfather and brother. He and his wife enjoyed travel, including trips around the world and trips on their motorcycle. Mr. Smith also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, eating out and watching football.
He died Nov. 21, at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley.
Survivors: His wife; his daughter, Diane Surratt and husband Randy of Johnstown; his grandson, Jeremy Surratt of Loveland; three sisters, Bonnie Miller and husband Howard of Friend, Neb., Ruth Blakkolb and husband Nolan of Streetsboro, Ohio, and Janice Patterson of Mantua, Ohio; two brothers, Dusty Blake of Milford, Neb., and Oris Smith and wife Shirley of Lincoln, Neb.; nine nephews; and four nieces.
Preceded in death by: His parents and brother, Duane Smith.
Visitation: 4-7 p.m. today at Stoddard Funeral Home.
Funeral service: 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Assembly of God in Greeley. Interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Thelma Barrett

Tribute: Thelma India Barrett was born in Blairsville, Ga., to Alfred Marion and Sarah Jane (Nix) West. She married Kenneth Barrett in Greeley. He died in 1980.
Mrs. Barrett lived in Greeley for most of her life and was a homemaker. A woman of strong faith and belief in prayer, she was a Christian and grew up in the Baptist faith. She loved gardening and raised beautiful flowers. She quilted, enjoyed embroidery, cooking and baking and raised dogs, cats and chickens. She loved the farm and ranch life. Most of all, she loved her family and cherished time with them.
Mrs. Barrett died Wednesday at Bonell Good Samaritan Community, Greeley.
Survivors: Two daughters, Shirley Dillon of Kersey and Barbara Barrett of Greeley; two sons, John Barrett of Greeley and Ronnie Barrett and wife Carol of Sterling; two sisters, Idella Straight of Greeley and Valdosta Strickland of Branson, Mo.; two brothers, Bonell West of Oregon and Ray West of Galeton; two grandchildren, Vicky Monroe and husband Elbert of Abilene, Texas, and John Dillon and wife Julie of Gill; five great-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: Her husband, a son Jerry Barrett, an infant son Kenneth Barrett Jr., a son-in-law William Dillon, her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Private graveside services: Monday at Linn Grove Cemetery, Greeley.

Aaron Campbell

Tribute: Aaron Campbell was born Salem, Ore., to George and Linda (Logan) Campbell and grew up in Salem.
On Aug. 17, 2002, he married Renae Griffith in Las Vegas.
Mr. Campbell lived in Florida before moving to Colorado. He was an over-the-road truck driver for many years. He served in the Army from 1989-90. He enjoyed motorcycling, fishing, camping, models, drawing and sewing. He was very artistic.
Mr. Campbell was free-spirited, and his family remembers him as "a gentle giant." He would give the shirt off his back to anyone. A family man, he devoted his time and life to his family.
Mr. Campbell died Tuesday at University Hospital in Denver.
Survivors: His wife, Renae Campbell of Milliken; a daughter, Samantha Campbell, and two sons, Tyler Hanson and Kody Campbell, all of Milliken; his parents, George and Cheryl of Lakeland, Fla., and Linda and John Hunter of Greeley; his parents-in-law, Ann Griffith and Mike of Loveland; a sister, Andrea Campbell of Eaton; a stepsister, Michelle Fisher of Newport Richey, Fla.; two stepbrothers, Brian Harrington and wife Jody of Greeley and Kurt Hunter and wife Monica of Cheyenne; his grandparents, Kay Logan of Kansas, Carl and Janice Walter of Greeley and Marshall and Gerri Griffith of Colorado Springs; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by: A son, Dakota Campbell; grandparents George and Martha Campbell, Les Logan and Gloria Holloway.
Memorial services: 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 915 12th St., Greeley. Cremation.

Cheryl Hackstadt

Tribute: Cheryl Lynn Hackstadt was born in San Diego to Julian C. and Betty L. Hoats. The family later moved to Summerville, where she was raised. She graduated from Summerville High School and later attended the University of South Carolina for two years.
In 1970, she and her ex-husband, Jerry Adams, moved to Colorado, where she owned and operated Kitchen & Bath Revelations in Greeley for 14 years. For the past eight years, she has worked for UNI Design in the kitchen and bath design department. She had a keen eye for remodeling and design, which is evidenced in the beautiful home she left for her family.
In 2003, she married Daryl Ray Hackstadt in Greeley with all her friends and children there to witness. The Hackstadts were members of Christ Community Church, where Mrs. Hackstadt found much comfort in the celebration of her faith.
Mrs. Hackstadt enjoyed knitting, scrapbooking, taking pictures of her grandson Asher, live music, shopping and her trips home to Edisto Beach.
Mrs. Hackstadt died Wednesday at North Colorado Medical Center, Greeley.
Survivors: Her husband, Daryl Hackstadt; a son, Andrew D. Adams; a daughter, Aimee R. Adams; her grandson, Asher; her parents, Betty L. and Julian C. Hoats; two brothers, Steve and David Hoats; and two sisters, Debbie Thames and Deanna Powers.
Memorial services to celebrate her life: 11 a.m. Monday at Christ Community Church, 1301 15th St., Greeley. Her ashes will be placed in the Atlantic Ocean near Edisto Beach, S.C.

Katherine Ross

Tribute: Katherine Pauline "Kay" Ross was born in Pittsburg, Kan., to Paul and Della Zellmer. She loved growing up and working with her dad on the farm, riding her horse to school and singing in the church choir. After high school, she worked as a secretary. Her organization skills were impeccable.
On Dec. 20, 1958, she married Louis C. Ross Sr. in Pittsburg. They moved to Fort Worth, Texas. Their first son, Paul Ross, was born July 8, 1959. Their second son, Louis C. Ross Jr., was born Dec. 28, 1961. The family then moved to Broomfield. Mrs. Ross was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Denver.
Mrs. Ross was an expert seamstress, enjoyed gardening and loved recordkeeping. She loved all animals, especially German shepherds. She was always proud of her sons' accomplishments.
Mrs. Ross died Tuesday in Greeley. Her family will miss her greatly.
Survivors: A son, Louis C. Ross Jr., and daughter-in-law, Shaunia Ross, of Eaton; a sister, Dorothy Jameson of Littleton; and two nieces, Donna Patterson and Carol Jameson, both of Littleton; and a grandnephew, Bill Patterson, also of Littleton.
Preceded in death by: Her husband on Oct. 3, 1984; her son Paul Ross, M.D., on June 6, 2002; and her parents.

Gene Shuler

Tribute: Vester Eugene "Gene" Shuler was born was born in Union County, Ga., to Marion Graden and Murphy Jane (Fortenberry) Shuler. He graduated from high school in Blairsville, Ga. In 1945, he joined the Army and served as an automotive mechanic with Hq Company, 343rd Engineers General Service Regiment in Germany. His duties included repairing trucks, grinding valves, adjusting brakes, maintaining fuel systems and electrical repairs. He supervised the work for 10 civilian mechanics. He also was a carpenter for the Army Service Forces Training Center.
On July 17, 1948, he married Loujine Young in Blairsville. In 1950, they moved to Walden, where Mr. Shuler worked for Ozark-Mahoney. He also worked for Willford Motors, Cooper Motors and was the supervisor of maintenance with Sigma Coal Co. He was a member of the North Baptist Church, a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Civil Air Patrol and served as undersheriff of Walden.
Mr. Shuler had many hobbies including playing the fiddle, guitar and mandolin. He enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and travel. He enjoyed spending time eating and visiting with family and friends.
Mr. Shuler died Tuesday in Laramie, Wyo.
Survivors: His wife of 59 years, Loujine Shuler; two children, Carl Shuler and wife Patty and Gwen Hanson and husband Kirk, all of Walden; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: His parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Services: 1 p.m. Friday at the North Park Community Church in Walden.
Interment: Jackson County Cemetery.
Visitation: Noon Friday at the church.

Richard Cullinane

Residence: Saulsbury, Tenn., formerly of Greeley
Tribute: Richard Cullinane was born in Cork City, Ireland, the son of Richard and Elizabeth Erangey Cullinane. He lived in the United States for 39 years and moved to Saulsbury six years ago.
Mr. Cullinane was a professional boxer who fought against Sugar Ray Robinson and received two European Middleweight Boxing Championship titles. He served in the British Bombardiers during World War II.
In 1968, he married Henrietta Jane Hankel.
Mr. Cullinane worked as a machinist and also a plastic molding operator for Batas Corp. He retired from Hewlett-Packard Corp. in Colorado after 30 years of service.
Among his hobbies were fishing, soccer, hockey, travel and his pets. He was a board member of the Hardeman County Humane Society and a member of the Roman Catholic Church.
Mr. Cullinane died Sunday at his home in Saulsbury.
Survivors: His wife, Henrietta Hankel Cullinane of Saulsbury; four sisters, Maureen Bend and Chrissy Carpenter, both of England; Lena Healy and Margaret O'Neill, both of Ireland; two brothers, Denis and Michel Cullinane, both of Ireland; 21 nieces and nephews in England, Ireland and the USA.
Preceded in death by: His parents and a sister, Theresa Mulcahy of Ireland.
Memorial services: 11 a.m. Monday at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel in Bolivar, Tenn.

Thelma Miller

Tribute: Thelma Marian Miller was born to Peter John and Mary (Meier) Durr in Evans. She attended Evans schools and graduated from Greeley Central High School in 1942.
On April 14, 1943, she married Adolph Miller in Gering, Neb. Mrs. Miller lived her entire life in Evans with the exception of her husband's military service, when they lived in Louisiana and California. She enjoyed being close to her sisters and brothers. At an early age, she worked in the sugar beet fields with her mother and siblings. She developed a strong work ethic, which remained with her for life. She survived the lean years of the 1940s with a smile, the ability to do and a "waste not, want not" attitude.
Mrs. Miller proudly lived in the home that she and her husband built for 53 years. They later helped their son-in-law and daughter build their home. She worked at the Great Western Sugar Co. factory in Greeley but preferred to focus all of her energies on being a homemaker.
Mrs. Miller loved being a mother and grandmother and was very supportive of all of her family's endeavors. She crocheted and sewed afghans, clothes and numerous other items for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She liked to cook, bake, garden, can, dance, swim and play ball. Loving and generous, she was a very strong Christian woman. She was proud of the fact that her father helped build the first Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Greeley. Her family was the joy of her life. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, wife and dear friend.
Mrs. Miller died Sunday at Life Care Center of Greeley.
Survivors: Two daughters, Janice Howard and husband Kenneth of Lakewood and Norma Jean Forman and husband Neil of Evans; a sister, Helen "Sis" Meyer of Greeley; a brother, Donald Durr of Greeley; four grandchildren, Dean Howard and wife Tammy of Littleton, Darlene Cayer and husband Rich of Littleton, Brian Forman and wife Jill of Broomfield and Brett Forman and wife Missy of Rapid City, S.D.; and seven great-grandchildren, Coriann, Megan, Allison and Tyler Howard and Kate, Jake and Hallie Forman.
Preceded in death by: Her husband, her parents and eight brothers and sisters.
Services: 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Allnutt Funeral Service Macy Chapel
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Greeley. A reception will follow at the Allnutt Reception Center.
