Mary F. Prokaly, age 84, of Fairfield, wife of the late Louis Prokaly, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at the Jewish Home for the Elderly. Born in Denton, Vt., Mrs. Prokaly lived in Fairfield for 20 years. She was a former employee of the Jelliff and Bryant Electric companies. Albert Pangrac Sr., age 65, of Stratford, a retiree of Textron Lycoming, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at St. Vincent`s Medical Center, Bridgeport, with his loving family at his side. Born in Hazelton, Pa., he was a son of the late George and Anna Novak Pangrac, and was a Stratford resident for 33 years. In addition to Textron Lycoming, Mr. Pangrac previously worked at Cutrufello Creamery for 17 years. He was a member of Local 1010 and participated in numerous athletic and church activities. Survivors include his beloved wife, Treva Pecora Pangrac; a son, Albert Pangrac and his wife, Kathy, of Beacon Falls; two daughters, Cindy Struthers and her husband, Alan, of Hampden, Mass., and Marybeth Carney and her husband, Glen, of Stratford; two brothers, Joe and Adam Pangrac, both of Ohio; three sisters, Anna D`Alesandro of Florida, Helen Sprague of Ohio, and Margaret Pangrac of California; three wonderful brothers-in-law, Nicholas Fanell of Bridgeport, Philip Pecora of Florida, and Rocco Pecora of Missouri; 10 grandchildren, Rachel, Ryan, Elizabeth, Avery and Mary Struthers, Glen, Olivia, Nathaniel and Treva Carney, and Albert Pangrac III; two stepgrandchildren, Jay and Kelsey Correia; and several nieces and nephews. Ms. Ryan was born in Danbury, on March 1, 1910, a daughter of the late John J. and Jennie I. Murphy Ryan. She was a graduate of Danbury High School and the Danbury State Normal School (now WCSU). She received her master degrees in english and history from Columbia University and the University of Massachusetts. Ms. Ryan taught in Hartford schools for many years, retiring to Trumbull. Mr. Arrington was employed as a grinder for Line Plastic in Milford for six years. Albert R. Freer, age 58, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of Theresa Pontillo Freer, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Born in Bridgeport to the late Albert and Lilian Easter Freer, he was a resident of the Black Rock section of Bridgeport for 30 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, who was devoted to his country and proudly displayed the American flag. He was employed as a salesman at Scap Motors and had previously been with Miller Buick. Next to his wife and family, Al loved drum corps, especially the Connecticut Hurricanes Drum Corps of which he was an alumnus, the New York Jets and playing racquetball at the Stratford Club where he was a member. He kept his zany sense of humor right to the end, amusing his visitors and even the doctors and nurses who cared for him so tenderly. His unique personality will be cherished in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted children, Thomas J. Freer of Black Rock, and Andrea Freer Sansonetti and her husband, James, of Black Rock; and one sister, Mary Jane Matthews and her husband, Frank, of Milford. He was predeceased by one brother, John Newton. Concettina "Connie" Mallozzi, age 86, of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late John Mallozzi, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at Carolton Chronic Convalescent Hospital, Fairfield, following a long illness. Born in Bridgeport on January 5, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Giuseppe "Joseph" and Rosina Dinonno Gimigliano. A lifelong Bridgeport resident, Mrs. Mallozzi worked as a seamstress for the Princess Pat Co., formerly of Bridgeport, until her retirement in 1984. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, Local 152, of New York, and previously worked for the former Mitchell Brothers Clothing Manufacturers as well as the Parisian Coat Factory. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Barbara Koller and her husband, Thomas, of Switzerland, and Maryann Gleason and her husband, Paul, of Fairfield; sisters, Rose Matis of Milford, May Callahan of Florida, Josephine Moran of Bridgeport; grandchildren, John Koller of New York, Kevin Koller of Utah, Colleen Rux of Wisconsin, Keri, Ryan, Sean and Katelin Gleason, all of Fairfield. Lewis Mills. A memorial service has been scheduled for Lewis A. Mills who died at the age of 85, in his Weston home, on November 27, 2000. Mr. Mills was born and raised in Westport and was a Weston resident for more than 42 years. He was employed as a postal carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 38 years prior to his retirement in 1972. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Corps. Mr. Mills was a lifetime member of VFW Post 399 in Westport, a member of the U.S. postal union and a longtime member of the Greens Farms Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include his loving and devoted companion, Frances Pasternak McIntyre of Weston; a brother, Lawrence Mills of Florida and Massachusetts; a sister, Martha Hale of Watertown; two first cousins, Ed and Ann Barlow, who were most supportive in his time of need; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Chestra (Tess) Grabowski Niestemski, age 81, of Naugatuck, beloved wife of the late John A. Niestemski, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Waterbury Hospital. A Bridgeport resident for most of her life, she moved to Naugatuck with her daughter in 1987 until the present. She was a retired stock clerk for Dresser Industries of Stratford, where she had worked for more than 18 years. A Valley resident for most of her life, she had been employed as a supervisor of medical transcription at Milford Hospital for 32 years until her retirement. She was a communicant of St. Mary`s Church in Derby where she had served as a eucharistic minister. She was a member of the American Association for Medical Transcription. Ann H. (Tibor) Coughlin, age 89, of Stratford, beloved wife of the late Albert "Bud" Coughlin, died Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at Lord Chamberlain Nursing Facility, Stratford. Mrs. Coughlin was born on December 18, 1911, in Bridgeport, daughter of the late John and Mary Tibor, and had been a lifelong area resident who loved to work in her flower garden. A devoted mother and grandmother, she is survived by one son, James Coughlin and his wife, Carol, both of Stratford; two brothers, Ed Tibor of Milford, and Andrew Tibor of Stratford; two sisters and their spouses: Emily and Harry Couchman of Ilion, N.Y., and Veronica and Paul Hugich of Richfield, N.Y.; four grandchildren: Kathleen Vazquez and her husband, William, both of Stratford, Patrick Coughlin and his wife, Teresa, both of Stratford, and Michael and James Coughlin, both of Milford; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Anthony Vazquez and Shelby and James Coughlin, all of Milford; and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Friday (TODAY), at 9:30 a.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main Street, Stratford, and at 10:30 a.m. in St. James Church, Stratford, for a funeral Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport. Michael J. Weaving, age 31, of Cudahy, Wis., formerly of Fairfield, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, in Wisconsin. Born in Bridgeport, he was the son of Mary Lou (Majoros) Gambino and the late Frederick Weaving. Lindsey Elizabeth Perkins, age 21, of Fairfield, a senior at Fairfield High School, died suddenly on Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at her home. Born in Boynton Beach, Fla., Lindsey had been a lifelong Fairfield resident. Survivors include her parents, William P. and Judith Briggs Perkins of Fairfield; a sister, Meredith V. Perkins and her fianc, Erek Sharp, of Brooklyn Heights, N.Y.; her maternal grandmother, Barbara F. Briggs of Fairfield; her paternal grandmother, Doris J. Snyder of Drexel Hill, Pa.; an aunt, uncle and three cousins. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, May 12, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the First Church Congregational, 148 Beach Road, Fairfield. Interment will be private. The Spear Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield, is in charge of arrangements. Julia (Ihasz) Fekete. Mrs. Fekete of Stratford, who "only admits to 39 years of age> died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, peacefully at the home of her niece and husband, Mary Alice and Harold Allen Jr. She also leaves to mourn, her great-niece and husband, Barbara Lynne and Paul Keegan Jr.; and her precious grandniece, Kaitlin Keegan. Survivors also include a nephew, Joseph Ihasz III and his three sons, Christopher, Joey and Jeremy Ihasz. She will also be missed by many who simply knew her. Auntie Julia was a seamstress and self-employed dry cleaner at the Bijoux in Bridgeport. She will once again walk among those who passed before, her mama and papa; loving husband, Alexander Fekete; her sister, Barbara Ihasz; her brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Irene Ihasz Jr.; and her niece through marriage, Christine Ihasz. There will be a one hour greeting time on Friday (TODAY), from 11 a.m. to noon. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main Street, Stratford. CARDONE
Michael James Cardone, MD, age 88, of Fairfield, died peacefully in his home on Thursday, May 10, 2001. He was predeceased by one year by his beloved wife, Betty Jane Hull Cardone. Dr. Cardone was born in Bridgeport, son of Assunta and Pasquale Cardone. A graduate of Central High School, he received his medical degree from the University of Vermont. He completed his residency in general practice at St. Vincent`s Hospital, Bridgeport, and later in obstetrics at Bellvue Hospital in New York. He practiced in Bridgeport for 45 years serving on the staff of St. Vincent`s Hospital, including a term as President of Staff. After retiring from private practice, he continued serving his patients at the newly founded St. Vincent`s Medical Center Family Health Center. Additionally he was a medical director at St. Joseph`s Manor in Trumbull. Dr. Cardone was a decorated veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Corps commanding a mobile medical unit in North Africa and Europe. He rose to the rank of major and was awarded the Bronze Star. After the war, Dr. Cardone returned to the area to begin his practice and raise nine children. He enjoyed performing as a jazz saxophone player in the Doctors Band. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his nine children: Susanne Buckley of New Milford, Cathryn Morrison Lebish of Westport, Patricia Lynch of Newtown, Mary Lynn Rowe of Monroe, Betsy Lincoln of Fairfield, Michele Cardone of Fairfield, Dr. Michael Cardone of Boston, James Cardone of Virginia, and Marla McGeady of Maryland; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 14, 2001, at 9:30 a.m. DIRECTLY at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield. Interment will follow in St. Michael`s Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Saturday, May 12, 2001, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Spear Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
