Mary Lathrop Allen La Farge of New Canaan died Sunday, Dec. 29, at home. She was 84.
She died of respiratory failure, according to her family.
Born May 2, 1918, in New York City, she was a daughter of the late Frederick L. and Jane Carlisle Allen. Her maternal grandfather was John G. Carlisle of Kentucky, speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and secretary of the Treasury under President Grover Cleveland.
Mrs. La Farge graduated from Nightingale-Bamford School in New York City and received a bachelor's degree from Manhattanville College in Purchase, N.Y. She also pursued graduate studies in music.
She moved to New Canaan with her family in 1939. On Oct. 19, 1946, she married Henry Adams La Farge, an art historian. He died in 1985. For the last 20 years she was the driving force in the production of the Catalogue Raisonne of the artist John La Farge, her husband's grandfather.
Mrs. La Farge was a parishioner of St. Aloysius Church. She sang in the church choir for almost 50 years, and served as its director for 10 years. She also was a member of the New Canaan Chamber Singers.
For more than 20 years, she organized and conducted many church food drives to stock the pantries of Christian Community Action in Norwalk. She was active in the Catholic Interracial Council and worked with the New Canaan Committee of Common Concern in support of civil rights.
Mrs. La Farge participated in the Diocesan Synod of 1970 and served in the Diocesan Ecumenical Commission. She was the first Catholic member of the board of Church Women United of New Canaan, later serving as president. She was on the board of the Interfaith Service Committee of New Canaan.
She was on the board of Family and Children's Services for 11 years, and chairwoman of the Coalition for Basic Human Rights advocacy and public issues committee.
She is survived by two daughters, Beatrice La Farge of Frankfurt, Germany, and Catherine La Farge of Galway, Ireland; a son, Henry Bancel La Farge of Nantucket, Mass.; and four grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Laura Allen and Fredericka Allen.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at St. Aloysius Church, 40 Maple St., New Canaan.
Burial was is St. Columba's Cemetery, Middletown, R.I.

Dorothea M. Lagan, a longtime Stamford resident, died Monday, Jan. 27, at a hospital in St. Louis. She was 82.
She died of heart failure, according to her family.
Born Sept. 30, 1920, in Everett, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Isaiah and Annie Quinn Price.
Mrs. Lagan was a homemaker. She worked for the Stamford chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Association for many years. She worked for the History Book Club in Stamford before her retirement.
During World War II, Mrs. Lagan served with U.S. Navy WAVES at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharyn Batch of St. Louis and Laura Lagan of Bethel; a son, Frank Lagan of Stamford; two sisters, Kay Hickman of Derry, N.H., and Grace Kelley of Stamford; two brothers, Russ Price of New York and Jack Price of California; and three grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Lagan; three brothers, Bill Price, Bert Price and Joe Price; and a sister, Helen Price.
A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at St., Mary Church, 566 Elm St., Stamford,

Stella A. LaGuardia, a lifelong Stamford resident, died Monday, Feb. 3, at Mediplex of Stamford. She was 82.
She died of respiratory failure, according to her family.
Born May 11, 1920, in Stamford, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Anna Stabile Albonizio.
Mrs. LaGuardia was a homemaker and an active member of St. Maurice Church in Stamford.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara A. Bateman of Darien and Susan L. Ramsey of Norwalk; a sister, Julia Monti of Pompano Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Paul J. LaGuardia; four brothers, Alfred Albonizio, Dominick Albonizio, John Albonizio and Anthony Albonizio; and three sisters, Linda Candido, Beatrice Modugno and Marie Wert.

Aniello J. "Dick" LaGuardia, a former head custodian in Stamford public schools and a lifelong Stamford resident, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Stamford Hospital. He was 70.
He died of cardiac arrest, according to his family.
Born Oct. 19, 1932, in Stamford, he was a son of the late Anthony and Sarah Paolucci LaGuardia.
Mr. LaGuardia worked in Stamford public schools as a custodian and head custodian for more than 20 years. He also worked as a butcher at the former Macari's Market on Stamford's West Side.
He graduated Stamford High School in 1952. He also graduated the carpentry program at J.M. Wright Technical School in Stamford in 1957.
Mr. LaGuardia was a corporal in the U.S. Army after high school.
He was a coach and umpire in the Mickey Lione Little League and a member of the Laurel Athletic Club of Stamford for many years.
He was an avid football and baseball player and a bowler. He enjoyed dancing and was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Stamford.
He is survived by two sons, Edward A. LaGuardia and David A. LaGuardia, both of Stamford; two daughters, Christine LaDela of Bridgeport and Denise A. LaGuardia of Stamford; a brother, Michael LaGuardia of Norwalk; a sister, Marie M. LaGuardia of Stamford; and five grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Carmen LaGuardia; and a sister, Ann J. LaGuardia.

May V. Lake of Stamford, a retired legal secretary and artist, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Greenwich Woods Health Care Center in Greenwich. She was 100.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born Jan. 9, 1903, in Bayridge, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Leon and Sara Harris Voran.
Mrs. Lake worked as a legal secretary for Clifford Chance Rogers & Wells LLP in New York City for 36 years, retiring in 1974. She was a graduate of Rhodes Business College and the Calan-Rose Institute of Art.
She was a charter member of the Business and Professional Association, Murray Hill Branch, in New York City. For 20 years she was a member of the National Art League of Douglaston, N.Y., and served as president from 1988 to 1989. She was a member of the Douglaston Woman's Club and a former vice president of the Douglaston AARP.
She tutored at P.S. 98 in Douglaston, where she was awarded the Parent Leadership Award and a Community Service Award.
While in Stamford, she was a member of the Ferguson Library for 10 years as a volunteer at the youth book store. She also volunteered at Our Lady Star of the Sea Elementary School and was secretary of the Resident Council of Westfield Court in Stamford.
An artist, Mrs. Lake's paintings garnered numerous awards in shows sponsored by the National Art League, the Ferguson Library, the Commission on Aging and the Irish Feis.
She is survived by a son, Leon Lake of Silver Spring, Md.; two sisters, Gertrude Kleinberg of New York City and Judy Schwartz of Bronxville, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, William H. Lake; a son, George H. Lake; a daughter, Marilyn Hanken; four sisters, Ruth Miller, Elizabeth Nodelman, Dorothy Voran and Eve Voran; and a brother, William Voran.

Helen Landow, a Stamford resident, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, at The Jewish Home for the Elderly in Fairfield. She was 88.
She died of congestive heart failure, according to her family.
Born Oct. 3, 1914, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Julius and Lena Lippman Smith.
Mrs. Landow was an active member of the Stamford Independent Lodge.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Levinson of Fairfield; a son Jack Landow of Laconia, N.H.; a brother, Dan Smith of Van Nuys, Calif.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Landow.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home, 88 Beach Road, Fairfield.

Thomas V. Lane, a lifelong Stamford resident, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, at Stamford Hospital. He was 53.
He died of heart failure, according to his family.
Born Nov. 23, 1950, in Stamford, he was a son of the late James E. Lane and Pattie A. Lane.
Mr. Lane was a member of Jesus Is Lord Tabernacle Church in Stamford. He was a member of the usher board, a van driver and a very active outreach worker throughout the state.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Lane of Baltimore; four sons, Welton Harris of Canada, Selton Harris of Stamford, Thomas Lane Jr. of Bridgeport and Jordan Lane of Baltimore; two daughters, Bianca Lane and Tamara Lane, both of Baltimore; five brothers, James Alexander, Edward Lane, Loren Lane and Franklin Lane, all of Stamford, and Eric Lane of Bridgeport; six sisters, Joann Lane, Gloria Morgan, Lesa Lane, all of Stamford, and Sheila Bryant, Pastor Cathy Whitfield and the Rev. Dorothea Lane, all of Bridgeport; six grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Lennart Larson, a lifelong Stamford resident and musician, died Saturday, Sept. 27, at Smith House in Stamford. He was 83.
He died of heart failure, according to his family.
Born March 19, 1920, in Stamford, he was the son of the late Alfred and Louisa Josephina Peterson Larson.
Mr. Larson was a self-taught musician who played the accordion, harmonica, piano and organ. He was a former retail sales clerk for several department stores and worked for many years at Commerce Packaging in Stamford.
He was a member of the Grange and Grace Evangelical Free Church, both in Stamford.
He is survived by six nephews; and 15 grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Elvera Larson Soderlund; and a brother, Walter Larson.
There will be no calling hours.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Fairfield Memorial Park on Oaklawn Avenue in Stamford.
A luncheon will follow at Grace Evangelical Free Church, 241 Courtland Ave., Stamford.

Frank "Bob" Lauder, the owner and operator of Corner Sports in Darien and a lifelong Norwalk resident, died Friday, Aug. 8, at Norwalk Hospital. He was 62.
He died of a heart attack according to his family.
Born April 20, 1941, in Norwalk, he was the son of the late Frank W. and Lois Hayes Lauder.
Mr. Lauder was a graduate of McAllister School of Mortuary Science in New York City and was a licensed funeral director and embalmer in Connecticut.
He was formerly associated with Edward Lawrence Funeral Home in Darien and Hoyt Funeral Home in New Canaan.
He was a pitcher for the 1952 Norwalk Little League championship team and coached for 10 years for the Mid-Fairfield Youth Hockey League.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Montana Lauder of Norwalk; a son, Scott Lauder of Shrewsburry, Mass.; a daughter, Kim Lauder of Litchfield; a sister, Nancy Eckfeld of Ohio; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Lordi.

Elsie G. Lawless of Norwalk, a former principal in the New York City schools, died Thursday, Dec. 5, at home. She was 95.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born May 29, 1907, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Patrick J. Goggins and Della O'Connell Goggins.
Mrs. Lawless was a longtime resident of Brooklyn. She was a graduate of Maxwell Teacher's College in New York City. She was a principal in the New York City Schools for many years. She was a member of the Catholic Teachers Association, the Emerald Society, Cathedral Club and Rosary Society, all in Brooklyn. She moved to Norwalk in 1996.
She is survived by two sons, David G. Lawless of Brooklyn and Francis A. Lawless III of Norwalk; and two grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Francis A. Lawless Jr.; and two sisters, Sister Mary Emeline and Marion Goggins.

Evelyn Wilson Lawrence of New Canaan, a retired office manager, died Monday, April 7, at Stamford Hospital. She was 88.
She died of a pulmonary embolism, according to her family.
Born June 15, 1914, in Darien, she was the daughter of the late Sidney F. and May Griswold Wilson.
Mrs. Lawrence was a descendent of Thaddeus Bell, the founding father of Darien. She graduated from Darien High School in 1932, where she was an honor student. She lived in New Canaan since 1956.
She was an office manager for Hodgon Insurance Co., formerly in Norwalk, for many years until her retirement in 1984. She was a member of Silvermine Golf Club in Norwalk. She was an accomplished gardener and loved animals.
She is survived by a nephew, Robert G. Wilson of Stamford; three nieces, Donna Hobbie Rhode of Norwalk, Dianne Hobbie of Eastchester, N.Y. and Wendy Hilgert Boyle of Holliston, Mass.
She was predeceased by her husband, William K. Lawrence; a sister, Muriel Wilson Hilgert; and a brother, Sidney Wilson.
There will be no calling hours.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, at the family plot in Raymond Cemetery, 212 Rowayton Ave., Norwalk, with the Rev. Ronald Evans officiating.

Susan LeBlond of New Canaan died Saturday, April 26, at Norwalk Hospital. She was 50.
She died of congenital aneurysm, according to her family.
Born June 21, 1952, in Bridgeport, she was a daughter of Eloise McDonald of Stratford and the late Benjamin Hidu.
Mrs. LeBlond lived in New Canaan for 22 years. She was an artist in residence at the Pound Ridge Art Gallery in Pound Ridge, N.Y., and she was a member of the Country Club of New Canaan.
Besides her mother, she is survived by her husband, E.C. "Chappy" LeBlond of New Canaan; two sons, Edward C. LeBlond Jr. and Andrew LeBlond, both of New Canaan; two daughters, Robyn LeBlond and Sara LeBlond, both of New Canaan; five brothers, Bobby McDonald, Billy McDonald, Timothy Hidu and Ricky Hidu, all of Stratford, and David Hidu of Washington; and four sisters, Wendy McDonald and Janie Coubrough, both of Milford, Lisa Uvino of West Haven and Sharon Gilleran of Stratford.

Edward Fontaine Lee, a longtime Bridgeport resident and former mechanic, died Saturday, Oct. 4, at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was 48.
He died of a heart attack, according to his family.
Born Oct. 9, 1954, in Williamston, N.C., he was a son of Pastor Sadie Lee Miles of Norwalk and the late Jesse Edward Lee Jr.
Mr. Lee had lived in Stamford and Norwalk before moving to Bridgeport 20 years ago. He was a member of the House of Prophecies & Prayer, Inc. of Norwalk, where he served as a youth counselor. He worked as a mechanic for Midas Muffler in Stamford for about 15 years.
He enjoyed reading and mentoring children.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Joann Washington Lee of Bridgeport; two sons, Jesse Edward Lee III of Bridgeport and Garrett Jennings of Boston; a daughter, Shronda Glenn of Paterson, N.J.; four brothers, Michael Lee and Lonnell Lee, both of Paterson, Ervin James of Stamford and Randolph Anthony of Williamston; two sisters, Jessie Pirro of Norwalk and Sheila Bonds of Windsor, N.C.; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by an aunt; and two uncles.

Walter Keith Lee, formerly of Stamford and a retired telephone technician, died Saturday, Aug. 17, at his home in Palm Coast, Fla. He was 77.
He died of heart attack, according to his family.
Born Jan. 4. 1925, in Jamaica, West Indies, he was the son of the late James and Blanche Lee.
Mr. Lee was a World War II veteran serving in the Royal Signal Corps of the British Navy in Jamaica.
He retired in 1986 as a telephone technician for Southern New England Telephone after 16 years. He moved from Stamford to Palm Coast in 1987. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Palm Coast and enjoyed photography and traveling.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Yvonne Lee of Palm Coast; two sons, Stewart Gordon Lee of San Diego, Calif., and Richard A. Lee of Palm Coast; a daughter, Dawn Andrea Kelly of Stamford; two brothers, Cecil Lee and Aston Lee, both of Jamaica; a sister, Sister Maritta Francis of Jamaica; and three grandchildren.

Annunzio "Nunzie" Legato, a lifelong Stamford resident, died Sunday, Jan. 18, at Stamford Hospital. He was 78.
He died of cardiac arrest, according to his family.
Born March 2, 1925, in Stamford, he was the son of the late Pasquale and Petronella Verducci Legato.
Mr. Legato was a tin knocker or duct man, serving various local businesses and institutions through the Sheet Metal Union Local No. 38 in Stamford.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
He was a member and past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 11200 in Stamford, through which he helped organize the state's Special Olympics. He also was a member of the Elks Lodge 899 in Stamford and the Stamford Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Mr. Legato is survived by his wife, Helen Chalikis Legato of Stamford; two daughters, Mary Legato and Elaine Legato-Maar, both of Stamford; a son, the Rev. Patric Legato of Albany, N.Y.; a brother, Antonio Legato of Norwalk; and three grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister, Angela Legato Colombo.

Anne V. Lemone, Darien resident for more than 50 years, died Thursday, Jan. 2, at Stamford Hospital. She was 86.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born Oct. 29, 1916, in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Antoinette Giacco Pelosi.
Mrs. Lemone grew up Stamford and graduated from Stamford High School in 1933. She worked for Teachers Publishing Co. of Darien and retired from Rheinhold Publishing Co. of Stamford in 1976. She was a parishioner of St. Thomas More Church in Darien, and an active member of the Darien Senior Center and the St. Gabriel Seniors.
She is survived by a son, Nicholas V. Lemone of Stamford; three daughters, Marianne J. Durkin of Darien, Linda Montague of Norwalk and Andrea L. Gale of Stamford; three sisters, Viola Kelley, Helen Conforti and Gloria Kelley, all of Stamford; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of over 50 years, Nicholas J. Lemone, in 1993; three sisters, Sadie Scicli, Gertrude Hatterman and Theresa Manforte; and a brother, Andrew Pelosi.

Marie Esther Lesperance, a homemaker who lived in Stamford for 25 years, died Sunday, Nov. 30 at home. She was 80.
She died of cancer, according to her family.
Born Dec. 7, 1922 in La Vallee de Jacmel, Haiti, she was the daughter of the late Eli and Claritha Boursiquot Rene.
She immigrated from La Vallee de Jacmel in 1978.
Mrs. Lesperance is survived by her husband, Vilias Lesperance of Stamford; two sons, Paul Lesperance of Stamford and Jean Eddy Lesperance of Marlboro, Md.; three daughters, Lucy Guerrier of Stamford, Ruth Salvant of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Clarice Marler of Columbia, S.C.; a brother, Eleodor Rene of Bridgeport; a sister, Emily Lamothe of La Vallee de Jacmel, Haiti; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5 at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford.
A funeral service will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 at the Zion Lutheran Church, 132 Glenbrook Road, Stamford.
Burial will take place at St. John's cemeteryin Norwalk.

Stanley "Stas" J. Lewandowski Jr., a former Stamford resident, died Friday, Feb. 21, at his home in Swan Lake, N.Y. He was 61.
He died of emphysema, according to his family.
Born Aug. 29, 1941, in Stamford, he was the son of the late Stanley and Ceil Pipa Lewandowski.
Mr. Lewandowski lived in Stamford most of his life. He moved to Swan Lake, N.Y., 10 years ago.
He attended Holy Name of Jesus School in Stamford and Fairfield Preparatory School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1965 and was commissioned to a medical cruise ship from 1961 to 1963.
He worked at A&W Coutermash Construction Co. in Darien and was an avid water skier.
He is survived by a sister, Lynn Hoegemann of Las Vegas; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by a nephew, Joseph D. Laginestra.
Services and burial will be private.
Ramsay's Funeral Homes, 3534 State Highway 55, Kauneonga Lake, N.Y. handled arrangements.

Regina "Reggie" W. Lewicki, a long-time Stamford resident, died Thursday, Jan. 9, at Stamford Hospital. She was 86.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born Nov. 29, 1916, in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late William and Alexandra Jabkowski Zurkowski.
Mrs. Lewicki worked as a sales associate at the former Gimbel's Department Store in Stamford for 30 years. She was a parishioner and communicant of Holy Name of Jesus Church. She enjoyed knitting and reading, and was an avid bowler.
She is survived by her husband, George J. Lewicki of Stamford; a daughter, Judith L. Notaro of Stamford; two brothers, Thaddeus Zurkowski of Stamford and Joseph Zurkowski of Fairfield; three sisters, Genevieve Maloney of Wilton, Hedwig Biessman of Aurora, Colo., and Irene Interlandi of Stamford; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Henry Zurkowski and Edward Zurkowski.
Calling hours will be 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, at the Bosak Funeral Home, 9 Pulaski St., Stamford.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 369 Washington Blvd., Stamford. The Rev. Stanley Staniszewski will officiate.
Burial will follow in St. John's cemeteryin Darien.
