November 24, 2001 D. Lavon Marhanka Mozak of Easton, a former resident of Darien and Celina, Ohio, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, in Bridgeport Hospital. She was 85. She died of complications from surgery, according to her family. Born June 16, 1916, in Crothersville, Ind., she was a daughter of the late John and Alice Marhanka. During World War II, she worked as a secretary in the engineering department at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and continued her career as a legal secretary in Dayton, Ohio. She married her husband, the late Edward Mozak, in March 1952 and moved to Celina, Ohio, where she lived until 1990. She was a homemaker and a church secretary at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Celina from 1968 to 1984. Mrs. Mozak moved to Darien in 1990 and lived with her daughter. She was a volunteer at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Darien. She recently became a member of Black Rock Congregational Church in Fairfield. In Easton, she participated in various activities at the Easton Senior Center. She is survived by her daughter, Carol A. Mozak Wolff of Easton; two granddaughters and a niece. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her 10 brothers and sisters. Calling hours will be 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, in Spear Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at Black Rock Congregational Church in Fairfield. Burial will follow in Aspetuck cemeteryin Easton. August 28, 2003 Dwayne W. Mueller of Stamford, former treasurer of White Tower Management Corp., now the Brock Corp. in New Canaan, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Meadow Ridge Health Care Center in Redding. He was 91. He died of natural causes, according to his family. Born March 14, 1912, in Springdale, Pa., he was a son of the late Christian John and Ethel Mueller. Mr. Mueller graduated from Springdale High School in 1929 as valedictorian. In 1933, he graduated with high honors from the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor of science degree. He was also a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, an honor society. He worked for White Tower Management Corp. in Stamford for more than 56 years and was treasurer of the company. Mr. Mueller was past president of the National Association of Cost Accountants and was a 50-year member. He attended St. Mark's Episcopal Church in New Canaan and was a former member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in the Springdale section of Stamford, where he served as junior warden for seven years and treasurer for 17 years. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Alice McKay Mueller of Stamford; a son, D. Ellis Mueller of Portsmouth, N.H.; one niece; one nephew; and one grandniece. He was predeceased by a brother, Gene A. Mueller. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 111 Oenoke Ridge Road, New Canaan. The F. Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St., New Canaan, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Evelyn J. Mulligan June 29, 2004 Evelyn J. Mulligan of Stamford, a retired secretary, died Saturday, June 26, at Stamford Hospital. She was 57. She died of cardiac arrest, according to her family. Born Dec. 14, 1946, in Port Washington, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Bernard J. and Julia F. Murphy Mulligan. Ms. Mulligan worked as a secretary for Avon Products in New York City for 15 years before retiring. She is survived by three sisters, Mollie B. Quinn of Stamford, Eileen C. Seery of Orlando, Fla., and Julia A. Mulligan of Fairfield; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Patricia J. Mulligan; and a brother, Cpl. Brian J. Mulligan, USMC. Calling hours will be 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford. June 20, 2003 George W. Munsick II, of Pamplin, Va., a physician and Korean war veteran, died Friday, June 13, at Lynchburg General Hospital in Lynchburg, Va. He was 71. A lifelong smoker, he died of a combination of illnesses related to smoking, according to his family. Born Feb. 16, 1932, in Summit, N.J., he was a son of the late George and Margaret Alliot Munsick. Known as "Bud" to his friends, Dr. Munsick was named for his grandfather, George Washington Munsick. He attended Admiral Farragut Academy, formerly in Pine Beach, N.J., and graduated from Morristown High School in Morristown, N.J. While attending Cornell University, Dr. Munsick enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Airborne Infantry during the Korean War. During his service, he received U.S. Army and Congressional appointments to West Point but was given a medical discharge after it was discovered that he had asthma. Dr. Munsick graduated from the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University in New York City, specializing in pathology. He was assistant pathologist at St. Luke's Hospital in New York City and later worked as chief pathologist at the former St. Joseph's Hospital in Stamford. During his career, he taught pathology, participated in cancer research and conducted private practice. He served as the official medical doctor for the Chappaqua, N.Y., police department. He is survived by his former wife, Dr. Judith Boone of North Carolina; a brother, Lee Munsick of Pamplin, Va.; three nephews; and seven cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Dr. Robert Munsick.

November 4, 2002 Joan Davidson Murphy, a Stratford resident, died Saturday, Nov. 2 at Bridgeport Hospital. She was 66. Cause of death is undetermined, according to her family. Born Feb. 10, 1936 in New York City, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Agnes Kerwin "Bubbles" Davidson. Mrs. Murphy was a former longtime Stamford resident. She lived in Rocky Hill, N.J., and Boca Raton, Fla., before moving to Stratford. She was the founder of the Connecticut Modeling Agency, one of the first of its kind in Connecticut, with offices in Stamford and New York City. She served for many years as a volunteer and a member of the board of the former St. Joseph's Hospital in Stamford. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Kevin L. Murphy of Stratford; two daughters, Kerry Murphy Maloney of Stamford and Kathleen Murphy Knapp of Guilford; three sons, John A. Murphy of Fairfield, Kevin L. Murphy Jr. of Trumbull and David M. Murphy of New York City; a brother, John K. Davidson of Redding; five granddaughters and five grandsons; and eight nieces and five nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert M. Davidson. Calling hours will be 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 5 at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford. August 2, 2002 Dr. John P. Murphy, a longtime Greenwich resident, died Wednesday, July 31, at Greenwich Hospital. He was 83. He died of leukemia, according to his family. Born May 26, 1919, in New York City, he was the son of the late Michael and Loretta O'Connor Murphy. Dr. Murphy was director of ambulatory services at Greenwich Hospital from 1977 to 1991. He had a family practice in Cos Cob from 1952 to 1977. He retired in 1996 after serving as an attending physician at Community Health Center in Stamford, where he treated people with acute and chronic illnesses, including AIDS. Dr. Murphy was a member of the American Medical Association, Connecticut State Medical Society, Fairfield County Medical Association and Greenwich Medical Society. He was board certified by the American Association of Family Practice. He was a former president of Innis Arden Golf Club. He earned his bachelor's degree from Fordham University and his medical degree from New York Medical College. Dr. Murphy was a dive bomber pilot for the U.S. Marine Corps from 1941 to 1946. He flew 115 combat missions and received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and Presidential Unit Citation. He is survived by his wife, Joan Murphy of Old Greenwich; three sons, Jerry Murphy and Kenneth Murphy, both of Newton, Mass., and Daniel Murphy of Boston; two daughters, Jane Murphy of Waltham, Mass., and Nancy Murphy of Rutland, Vt.; two stepsons, Robert Long and John Long, both of Los Angeles; two stepdaughters, Patricia Harris of Bronxville, N.Y., and Joanne Farrell of Stamford; one brother, William Murphy of Ossining, N.Y.; three grandchildren and six step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothea English Murphy; and a sister, Irene Murphy. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch St., Greenwich. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, at St. Mary Church, Greenwich Avenue, Greenwich. September 8, 2003 Dr. Joseph M. Murphy of Greenwich and Bonita Springs, Fla., died Saturday, Sept. 6, at Greenwich Hospital. He was 68. He died of polymyositis, his family said. Born Dec. 4, 1934, in the Bronx, N.Y., he was the son of the late Dr. Joseph Murphy and Iola Murphy. After graduating from Pelham High School in New York, Dr. Murphy earned an undergraduate degree magna cum laude from Fordham University and graduated from Cornell Medical School in 1958. He did his internship at the Department of Surgery at the University of Oregon and served as a captain in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army in Germany from 1961 through 1964. He then completed a residency in radiology at Cornell Hospital and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. He joined the staff as an attending physician at Greenwich Hospital and the Greenwich Radiological Group in 1969. He was chairman of the Department of Radiology at Greenwich Hospital from 1989 to 1998. Dr. Murphy was president of the Connecticut chapter of the American College of Radiology from 1996 to 1998 and was a councilor to the college at the national level. In recognition of his contributions to radiology, he was honored by election to a fellowship in the American College of Radiology. Dr. Murphy was a member of the Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y., the Innis Arden Golf Club in Old Greenwich and the Bonita Bay Club in Bonita Springs. He married Cecelia Ann (Tele) LeMatty on Aug. 23, 1958; they recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Joseph Murphy of Greenwich and Edward Murphy of New York City; two daughters, Dr. Barbara Murphy of Nashville, Tenn., and Bonnie Gilrane of Greenwich; a sister, Nancy Murphy Mahoney of Duxbury, Mass.; two grandsons; and four nieces and a nephew. Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch St., Greenwich. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 4 Riverside Ave., Greenwich. February 5, 2003 Kim M. Musitano, who lived in Darien for 32 years, died Monday, Feb. 2, at Stamford Hospital. She was 38. She died of heart failure, according to her family. Born Oct. 24, 1964, in New York City, she was a daughter of Robert R. Musitano of Darien and the late Lorraine Oddo Musitano. Miss Musitano graduated from Darien High School in 1986. She worked for 17 years with STAR, a program for mentally handicapped individuals in Norwalk. For more than 20 years, she member of the Darien Lion's Club Special Olympics Team. In the Connecticut Special Olympics, she competed in bowling and tennis. In addition to her father, she is survived by a brother, Robert R. Musitano of Stamford; a sister, Michelle Marie Musitano of Darien; a stepmother, Jann Musitano of Darien; and an aunt. September 18, 2003 Mary A. Muskovitz, a resident of Stamford for more than 90 years, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Stamford Hospital. She was 97. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born Feb. 9, 1906, in Steelton, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Michael and Anna Resjan Zvonkovic. Mrs. Muskovitz was a member of St. Maurice Church in Stamford and the Croatian Fraternal Union. She worked for Shick in Stamford for many years and later for Elinco in Norwalk until retiring. She is survived by two sisters, Katherine Slavinsky of Stamford and Anna Mravunac of Norwalk; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Muskovitz was predeceased by her husband, Joseph P. Muskovitz Sr.; and a son, Joseph P. Muskovitz Jr. Calling hours will be 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford. Vivian R. Myers December 11, 2003 Vivian R. Myers, a lifelong Stamford resident, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Stamford Hospital. She was 73. She died complications from a stroke, according to her family. Born July 26, 1930, in Stamford, she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Anna Daniels Elliott. Mrs. Myers was a member of Faith Tabernacle Missionary Church in Stamford. She worked at Stamford Day Nursery, formerly on Grove Street, for 18 years. She spent many years helping raise her granddaughter, Stephanie Paris Cooper of West Haven. Mrs. Myers is survived by her husband, Steve Myers of Stamford; two daughters, Lydia Douglas of Stamford and Olivia Paris of Waterbury; three brothers, John Elliott of Stamford, Thomas Elliott of Rocky Hill and Earl Elliott of Waterbury; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Myers was predeceased by a son, Steven Myers III; a sister, Edith Elliott; and five brothers, Stephen Elliott Jr., Wilbert Elliott, Lewis Elliott, Robert Elliott and Leroy Elliott. Calling hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, 29 Grove St., Stamford. Services will follow at the church with the Rev. Tommie Jackson officiating. December 19, 2002 Alice C. Myers, a musician and Darien resident, died Saturday, Dec. 14, at Stamford Hospital. She was 79. She died of complications from surgery, according to her family. Born May 11, 1923, in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Laila Cox. Mrs. Myers was the founding director of By Popular Demand, an eight-member jazz vocal group, and the Connecticut Choraliers, a music group still in existence. In addition, she served as the musical director at the Ethel and Sydney Kweskin Theatre, formerly the Sterling Barn Theatre in Stamford. Mrs. Myers also was the musical director for the New Canaan Summer Theater, New Canaan Methodist Church, First Congregational Church in Darien and for an all-female ensemble, The Blue Notes, in Darien. She produced and directed local productions of "Godspell" and "Jesus Christ Superstar." Mrs. Myers had appeared in musical comedies, light opera and cabaret performances since the 1950s. Mrs. Myers graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School and from the University of Illinois, where she majored in music. She had lived in Darien since 1966, prior to which she lived in Greenwich for four years. Mrs. Myers is survived by two sons, Douglas Myers of Darien and Jeffrey Myers of New Canaan; two daughters, Susan Torrey of Fairfield and Laurie Ellington of Kaiserslautern, Germany; and five grandchildren. She was predeceased in 1989 by her husband, Dr. Robert L. Myers, whom she married in 1944. A service of remembrance and celebration will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at First Congregational Church in Darien.
