Helen M. Nardozza, a licensed cosmetologist and former Stamford resident, died Saturday, Nov. 23 at New Milford Convalescent Home in New Milford. She was 84. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born May 6, 1918 in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late Anton and Mary Yaknick Ryba. Mrs. Nardozza lived in Stamford most of her life before moving to New Milford in 2000. She married Rocco Nardozza on July 27, 1940. She worked in sales at the former Bloomingdale's department store in Stamford and retired in 1983. Mrs. Nardozza was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Stamford. She is survived by a son, John P. Nardozza of Tyrone, Ga.; a daughter, Mary Nardozza King of Sharpsville, Ind.; two sisters, Florence Chiappetta and Elizabeth Chiappetta, both of Stamford; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Besides her husband, who died in 1972, Mrs. Nardozza was predeceased by a sister, Albina Ryba; and a brother, John Ryba. Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26 at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford. A procession will leave the funeral home at 8:50 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 27 and head to Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 37 Schuyler Ave., Stamford, for a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow at St. John Roman Catholic Cemetery, 25 Camp Ave., Darien.

William Nayden

William Nayden of Weston, a financial consultant and manager, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, at St. Vincent Medical Center in Bridgeport. He was 43. He died of a heart attack, according to his family. Born Sept. 13, 1960, in Alexandria, Va., he was a son of John P. and Cecilia J. O'Meara Nayden of Branford. Mr. Nayden graduated from Trinity Catholic High School in Stamford and Fairfield University. He went on to work for Merrill Lynch for 21 years, most recently as manager in its Fairfield office. He had lived in Connecticut for about 30 years. In Weston, he was a Little League coach. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Donna Lucey Nayden of Weston; a son, William J. Nayden of Weston; three daughters, Kara Nayden, Emma Nayden and Krista Nayden, all of Weston; four brothers, Denis Nayden of Wilton, John Nayden of Bethesda, Md., Michael Nayden of Allendale, N.J., and Mark Nayden of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a sister, Helen Burland of Madison; and 13 nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, at Spadaccino Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Route 111, Monroe. Leila Mae "Nana" Nelson, a longtime Stamford resident and private nurse, died Friday, March 7, at Stamford Hospital. She was 58. She died of cancer, according to her family. Born Oct. 23, 1944, in Estill, S.C., she was the daughter of Lillie M. Green-Steadman of Stamford and Mack Green of Estill. Mrs. Nelson lived in Stamford for about 45 years and worked as a private nurse for about 15 years. She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Stamford. Besides her parents, she is survived by a daughter, Mia Nelson of Stamford; three sons, Curtis A. Nelson of Bridgeport, and Keith E. Nelson and Kareem A. Hargrove, both of Stamford; a brother, Clarence Patterson of Stamford; a sister, Annie Green of Bridgeport; four grandsons; six granddaughters; five step-grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Curtis E. Nelson; three brothers, Mack Green, Frank Green and Willie Green; and a sister, Shirley Hodge. Viewing will be from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, March 12, at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 150 Fairfield Ave., Stamford, with a funeral service at noon. The Rev. Winton Hill III will officiate. Elizabeth Nethercott of Harwich, Mass., a homemaker and a former resident of Port Chester, N.Y., died Monday, Aug. 18, at Epoch Assisted Living in Brewster, Mass. She was 90. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born Nov. 26, 1912, in Mount Vernon, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Helen Duffy Shea. She was raised and educated in Ambler, Pa. On May 17, 1938, in Norwalk, she married William Nethercott Sr., currently of Harwich, Mass. Mrs. Nethercott was a parishioner of the Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church in Chatham, Mass., and a former parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Church in Port Chester. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, William Nethercott Jr. of Rye Brook, N.Y.; two daughters, Mary Jane Tuttle and Elizabeth Trupchak, both of Stamford; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond Shea and Edward Shea. Horace E. "Nick" Nichols Jr., a Stamford resident, died Sunday, Dec. 15 at Stamford Hospital. He was 82. He died of cardiac arrest, according to his family. Born Aug. 23, 1920, in Decatur, Ga., he was a son of the late Horace E. Nichols Sr. and Ida Berry Nichols. Mr. Nichols attended schools and college in Virginia and did post-graduate study at Washington University in St. Louis. He worked at Westvaco Corp., first in Covington, Va., then in Luke Mills, Md., before transferring to the New York Corporate Office in New York City. He retired after nearly 45 years with the company. He served in the U.S. Air Force in the United States and the Philippines during World War II. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Stamford, where he served on the Council of Church Ministries, the Finance Committee and the Fellowship Club. He was a member of AARP No. 972 in Darien and the Senior Men's Association of Stamford, where he sang with the "Songsters." He also belonged to the Association of Management Accountants. He is survived by his wife, Angela Haviland Nichols of Stamford; two daughters, Betty N. Merta of Deerfield, Ill., and Carol N. DeMatteo of Stamford; two stepsons, Donald Haviland of South Salem, N.Y., and Jeffrey Haviland of Swarthmore, Penn.; a granddaughter; and five step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Lillian Anderson Nichols; two brothers, R. Harold Nichols and Charles H. Nichols; and two sisters, Opal N. Wilkerson and Dorothy N. Atkins. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held Thursday, Dec. 19, at Evergreen Cemetery, 1307 Summit Ave SW, Roanoke, Va. Anthony J. Nicoletti Jr. of Glastonbury, an actuary, formerly of New Canaan, died Friday, Aug. 22, at Hartford Hospital. He was 63. He died of kidney failure, according to his family. Born Feb. 1, 1940, in Stamford, he is a son of Catherine Carlino Nicoletti Marabella of Glastonbury, and the late Anthony J. Nicoletti Sr. Mr. Nicoletti was an actuary for Phoenix Mutual in Hartford from 1964 to 1967 and then worked as vice president for Savings Banks Life Insurance Company in Hartford from 1968 to 1975. He graduated from New Canaan High School in 1958, where he was a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, Latin Club and slide rule club. He also lettered in varsity football and was class president. Mr. Nicoletti received scholarships from Oregon University and MIT and admission to West Point but chose to stay local at the University of Connecticut, from which he graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science degree in math. He also was a member of the Elks in Rocksville and the MENSA, and was a fellow of the Society of Actuaries since 1971. In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Sharon Persch of Hebron, and Lisa Garlitz of Manchester by the Sea, Mass.; a son, Michael A. Nicoletti of Manchester; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Frank Marabella Jr. Calling hours will be 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at the Nicholas F. Hilda T. Nicoll, a lifelong Stamford resident and homemaker, died Tuesday, April 22, at home. She was 79. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born Dec. 11, 1923, in Stamford, she was a daughter of the late Nicholas and Carmella Mavealiveo Macchio. Mrs. Nicoll was a homemaker. She was active in the Democratic National Committee and the Leukemia Society, both in Stamford. She is survived by a son, Matthew Unnever of Milford; two daughters, Carolyn Unnever of Sebastian, Fla., and Helen Barksadale of New Milford; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Kelley-Coppola; two brothers, James Maccio and Victor Macchio; and eight brothers and sisters in Italy. John J.P. Nocerino, a Stamford resident for 50 years and former resident of Seaford, N.Y., died Monday, May 31 at home. He was 80. He died of natural causes, according to his family. Born Jan. 13, 1924, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a son of the late Pat DeAngelo and Ernestine Nocerino. Mr. Nocerino attended college in New York City and was active with the Methodist Church in the Springdale section of Stamford. He prepared taxes for Security Tax Service, his own business, and was the former Scoutmaster for Troop 48 in Stamford. Mr. Nocerino is survived by his wife, Virginia L. Wenner Nocerino of Stamford; five sons, Ernie Nocerino of Stafford Springs, Sam Nocerino of Woodbridge, Rafael DeAngelo of Stamford, Steven Greene of Norwalk and Thomas Greene of Katy, Texas; a daughter, Iris Hass of Mooresville, N.C.; a brother, Vincent Nocerino of N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Daniel F. Nolan
Daniel F. Nolan of Greenwich, a geologist, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, at Greenwich Hospital. He was 71. He died of cancer, according to his family. Born May 26, 1932, in Iowa City, Iowa, he was a son of the late Daniel Clifford and Margaret Schwertley Nolan. Mr. Nolan served in the Coast Guard during the Korean War. He was a geologist, traveling throughout South America to Columbia, Peru, Bolivia and Panama, as well as Texas and the Midwest. Mr. Nolan was an avid bridge player throughout Fairfield County. He is survived by his wife, Clemencia Fernandez Nolan of Greenwich; two daughters, Frances Nolan of Bellevue, Wash., and Patricia Nolan of Stamford; a son, Martin Nolan of Iowa City; two brothers, John Nolan of Iowa City and Richard Nolan of Littleton, Colo.; four sisters, Betty Nolan and Barbara Wagner, both of Iowa City, Katherine Calacci of Wheaton, Ill., and Frances Kensinger of Arroyo Grande, Calif.; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Peggy Nolan. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Accede Pierre Noril, a Stamford resident, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Roger William Medical Center in Providence, R.I. He was 84. He died of respiratory failure, according to his family. Born Aug. 15, 1917, in Haiti, he was the son of the late Amelia and Saintilus Accede. Mr. Noril is survived by his wife, Alicie Accede of Stamford; three sons, Guy Accede and Daniel Accede, both of Haiti, and Serge Accede of Stamford; seven daughters, Anita Accede of New York City, Marguerite Accede Jolicoeur of Rhode Island, Naomie Accede Lauture of Stamford, Yolanda Accede and Deslande William, both of Haiti, and Jean Paul Accede and Marjorie Accede, both of Norwich; and 12 grandchildren. Susan Ann Nowack of Lewes, Del., died Friday, Nov. 29, at Harbor Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Lewes. She was 44. She died of early onset Alzheimer's disease, according to her family. Born Nov. 29, 1958 in New Rochelle, N.Y., she was the daughter of Antoinette Pinto Nowack Trottier of Millsboro, Del. and the late Robert L. Nowack. She attended schools in the Mamaroneck Union Free School District in Mamaroneck, N.Y. Ms. Nowack lived in Norwalk for several years. She worked as a loan administrator for Fleet Bank in Stamford. She later worked as a secretary in the Purchasing Department of Mitre Corp. in Bedford, Mass. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her stepfather, Richard Trottier of Millsboro; a grandmother, Sophia Nowack of Mamaroneck, a brother, Robert Nowack of Norwalk; a sister, Donna Nowack of Lewes; two stepsisters, Lynne Marshall of Millsboro, and Michele Trottier of San Mateo, Calif.; one aunt; two cousins; a niece; a nephew; two step-nieces; and two step-nephews. Jacqueline R. "Jackie" O'Donnell of Trumbull, a former Oxford resident, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, at home. She was 47. She died of cancer, according to her family. Born Jan. 30, 1956, in Stamford, she was a daughter of Antoinette "Toni" D'Agostino Ritch of Trumbull and the late Raymond Ritch. Mrs. O'Donnell was an Oxford resident before moving to Trumbull a year ago. She was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Oxford and a religious education teacher there. She worked as promotions coordinator for Ryan Parternship in Wilton for nine years. She was a fan of theater and active with the Foote Lights Theatrical Group of Oxford. Mrs. O'Donnell volunteered at toy drives at Christmas time and cared passionately for children and their causes. She participated in the Million Mom March in Washington, D.C. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Kevin O'Donnell of Trumbull; a daughter, Katelyn O'Donnell of Trumbull; a son, Jason O'Donnell of Trumbull; a brother, Raymond Ritch of Bethel; and a sister, Gilda Mecca of Fairfield. Born Jan. 10, 1923 in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late Sebastiano and Assunta Battestia Ferrullo. Mrs. Ofiero was an avid Bingo player. She is survived by a son, Anthony Ofiero Jr. of Stamford; three daughters, Josephine McKeon and Sue DiLeonardo, both of Norwalk, and Lorraine Corbett of Seymour; three sisters, Mary Ventriglia of Trumbull, and Frances Gillespie and Susan Colucci, both of Stamford; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. George Washington O'Grady

George Washington O'Grady of South Miami, Fla., a former Stamford resident, died Wednesday, May 26, at home. He was 80. He died of cancer, according to his family. Born Feb. 22, 1924, in Stamford, he was the son of the late Francis and Sarah Hanbury O'Grady. Mr. O'Grady graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marine and the U.S. Navy during World War II. He later graduated Boston University and the University of Miami Law School in Miami. He practiced law in Miami for more than 30 years. Mr. O'Grady is survived by his wife, Angeline O'Grady of South Miami; three sons, Ted O'Grady of Miami, and John O'Grady and Paul O'Grady, both of Orlando, Fla.; four daughters, Estelle Templeton of West Palm Beach, Fla., Patti McCarthy of Miami, Gail Lucki of Toronto and Kathy Kaptinski of Stamford; two sisters, Sally Smith and Mary O'Grady, both of Stamford; a brother, Richard O'Grady of Enfield; 22 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Barbara O'Neill, a longtime resident of New Canaan, died Sunday, Aug. 3, at Norwalk Hospital. She was 69. She died of complications from lung cancer, according to her family. Born May 28, 1934, in London, she was a daughter of the late James and Alice Sheridan. She spent her childhood in Ireland until moving to the United States in 1963. Mrs. O'Neill had been employed as an office manager with the Oenoke Association in New Canaan since 1970. She lived in New Canaan for 35 years. She is survived by her husband, Andrew O'Neill of New Canaan; a son, Glenn O'Neill of Darien; a daughter, Caroline Mansfield of Athol, Mass.; a brother, James Sheridan of Portsmouth, England; a sister, Maureen Smith of London; and four grandchildren. There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at St. Thomas More Church, 374 Middlesex Road, Darien. Edward F. O'Shaughnessy, a mechanical engineer and longtime Norwalk resident, died Sunday, Oct. 20, at Norwalk Hospital. He was 80. He died of lung cancer, according to his family. Born Dec. 30, 1921, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late James and Anna Mabel Chadwick O'Shaughnessy. Mr. O'Shaughnessy graduated from St. Augustine High School in Brooklyn, and earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the submarine USS Rasher in the Pacific. He moved to Norwalk in 1947 to work for Peabody Engineering, formerly in Stamford. He worked there for 39 years before retiring in 1984. Mr. O'Shaughnessy was a coach for the original Brien McMahon Babe Ruth League in Norwalk and a coach and chief umpire for the Cranbury Community Athletic Association in Norwalk. He was active in the Norwalk High School Father's Club, F.I.S.H. in Norwalk and Meals on Wheels in Norwalk. He was a parishioner at St. Jerome's Roman Catholic Church in Norwalk. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, June Schilling O'Shaughnessy of Norwalk; a son, Patrick O'Shaughnessy of Norwalk; a daughter, Anne O'Shaughnessy Beluk of Norwalk; and three grandchildren. Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 22, and 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott St., Norwalk. Joseph Ottanio of Granville, N.Y., a Stamford native and former postal worker, died Sunday, June 20, at home. He was 82. He died of kidney failure, according to his family. Born Nov. 19, 1921, in Stamford, he was a son of the late Marie and Anthony Ottanio. Mr. Ottanio was raised in Stamford, then lived in Fairfield and New Milford before moving to Granville in August. He worked as a mail carrier for the Stamford Post Office for 33 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Angelina "Dolly" Ottanio of Granville; a daughter, Sandra Ottanio of Whitehall, N.Y.; and a brother, Al "Chick" Ottanio of New Milford. Marge Pagano, a lifelong Stamford resident, died Friday, Dec. 20, at Stamford Hospital. She was 85. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born June 10, 1917, in Stamford, she was a daughter of the late Anthony A. and Olympia Coppola Prizio. Mrs. Pagano was employed by Lord & Taylor in Stamford as a salesperson in the lingerie department for 18 years before her retirement. She was an avid reader and loved to watch old movies and travel. She is survived by three daughters, Theodora "Teddy" Pagano of South Salem, N.Y., Barbara Duddie and Patricia Pagano, both of Stamford; two sons, Louis E. Pagano Jr. of Wilton and Edward Pagano of South Salem; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Louis E. "Red" Pagano Sr.; a daughter, Carol Ann Pagano; three sisters, Theresa Sagnelli, Esther Karwoski and Mary Tompkins; three brothers, John Prizio, Anthony Prizio Jr. and Patrick Prizio. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Monday, Dec. 23, at St. Leo Church, 28 Roxbury Road, Stamford. Burial will follow in St. John's cemeteryin Darien. Arrangements are being handled by Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford. George Paglialungo, a lifelong New Canaan resident and retired hardware manager, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, at Stamford Hospital. He was 89. He died of natural causes, according to his family. Born Jan. 15, 1913, in New Canaan, he was a son of the late Nicholas and Vincenza D'Alessandro Paglialungo. Mr. Paglialungo lived in the home where he was born for his entire life. He was a retired hardware manager for the former Silliman's Hardware store in New Canaan. He was a member of St. Aloysius Church in New Canaan, a longtime member of the New Canaan Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the New Canaan Senior Citizens and the New Canaan Old Timers. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Paglialungo of New Canaan; two daughters, Sharon Powers of Norwalk and Maria Paglialungo of Lexington, Ky.; a brother, Joseph Paglialungo of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Reonilda "Ronnie" Zandri of New Canaan and Josephine Conklin of Honolulu; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, at F. Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St., New Canaan. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, at St. Aloysius Church, 40 Maple St., New Canaan. Burial will follow in Lakeview cemeteryin New Canaan. Juan Carlos Palacios of Stamford died Sunday, Nov. 10, in Stamford. He was 24. He died of a head injury suffered in a car accident, according to police. Born Jan. 27, 1978, in Amatitlan, Guatemala, he was a son of Carlos Palacios of Stamford and the late Eugenia Velasquez. Mr. Palacios was a Stamford resident for eight years. He worked for Darien Pool Service for five years and attended St. Benedict's-Our Lady of Montserrat Church in Stamford. In addition to his father, he is survived by two brothers, Victor Palacios and Ruben Palacios, both of Stamford; two sisters, Karla Palacios and Juana Palacios, both of Stamford; and his paternal grandfather, Celestino Palacios of Amatitlan. Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 13, at Downer Funeral Home, 31 Stillwater Ave., Stamford. Burial will be in Amatitlan.
