Carmella R. Smeriglio, a Greenwich resident, died Monday, April 28, at Greenwich Hospital. She was 99.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born March 31, 1904, in Stamford, she was a daughter of the late Nicholas and Rose Genovese Massare.
Mrs. Smeriglio was a homemaker. She grew up in Stamford, where she attended public schools, graduating from Stamford High School. She had lived in the Riverside section of Greenwich for 52 years.
She is survived by a son, Michael J. Smeriglio of Riverside; a grandchild; four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Patsy Smeriglio; three brothers, Paul Massare, Philip Massare and Sam Massare; and two sisters, Theresa Coviello and Nettie Greco.
No calling hours are planned.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 1, at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 8 Riverside Ave., Greenwich.
Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, Darien.

Alexander G. Smirnoff, a longtime Darien resident, died Monday, Aug. 11, while vacationing with his family in Bermuda. He was 62.
He died of cardiac arrest, according to his family.
Born Aug. 21, 1940, in Hong Kong, he was the son of Nina Smirnoff of Burwood, Australia, and the late George Smirnoff.Mr. Smirnoff came to the United States to attend New York University, where he graduated with a degree in economics. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and president of the Interfraternity Council. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and served on a destroyer during the Vietnam War. He then worked as director of cargo for Pan American World Airways.
For the last 12 years, Mr. Smirnoff was director of telecommunications for the Empire State Building. After Sept. 11, he was recognized as one of those who helped to rebuild New York City by working with radio and television broadcasters and their antennas and maintaining the flow of communication in the city. He was cited in "Faces of Ground Zero" put out by Life Books and in an exhibit in Grand Central Terminal.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Smirnoff is survived by his wife of 39 years, Suzanne Waters Smirnoff of Darien; two daughters, Anastasia "Stacy" Arevalo of Norwalk and Christina Smirnoff of Darien; a son, George A. Smirnoff of Darien; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at Noroton Presbyterian Church, 2011 Post Road, Darien.
Burial is private.

Anne T. Shea Smith of Rowayton died Sunday, Jan. 5, in Norwalk Hospital. She was 72.
She died of a heart attack, according to her family.
Born June 1, 1930, in Jamaica, Queens, N.Y., she was a daughter of Margaret-Mary Shea of Huntington Station, N.Y., and the late Patrick Shea.
Mrs. Smith was a Rowayton resident for more than 40 years.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by four daughters, Deirdre Smith of Parker, Colo., Moira Smith of New York City, Mairead Ainley of Newtown and Siobhan Smith of Bethel; a son, Padraic Smith of New York City; a sister, Patricia Jantzen of Northport, N.Y.; a brother, Robert Shea of Foxboro, Mass.; and four grandchildren.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Ave., Norwalk.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at St. John Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien.

Pamela Margarita Smith of Stamford, a former saleswoman and nurse's aide, died Monday, Nov. 3, at home. She was 66.
She died from complications due to heart disease, according to her family.
Born July 8, 1937 in Lower St. Andrew, Jamaica, West Indies, she was a daughter of Luretta Stennett of Miami and the late Alexander Stennett.
Mrs. Smith attended Catholic school and was known as "Sister Pam." She was active in track and field in her high school years.
She moved to Tottenham, England, when she was 17 and lived with her aunt and uncle.
She, and her husband of 45 years, Aston Smith of Stamford, moved to Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1969.
Mrs. Smith worked in the fashion industry as a sample maker and a retail saleswoman.
In the late 1980s, she moved to Stamford and worked as a retail saleswoman and a nurse's aide. After she retired, she began to travel and spend time with her grandson.
She enjoyed sewing and cooking.
In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by a daughter, Karen Smith of Stamford; two sisters, Janett VanPuten of Miami and Marjorie Stennett of Miami; three brothers, Keeling Stennett of Cutleridge, Fla., Leon Stennett of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Christopher Stennett of Miramar, Fla.; a grandson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and in-laws.
Calling hours will be 5 to 9 p.m., today, Nov. 7, and 9 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 8, at Leo P. Gallagher and Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford.
Services will follow at St. John's Episcopal Church, 628 Main St., Stamford.

Carlton William Smith, a Stamford resident, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence at Stamford Hospital. He was 60.
He died of cancer, according to his family.
Born June 2, 1942, in Stamford, he was the son of M. Justine Lockwood Smith of Stamford and the late Carlton Everett Smith.
Mr. Smith was a barber, having worked at Noroton Hair Shop in Darien. He was a 1961 graduate of Stamford High School and graduate of Bullard Haven Technical School in Bridgeport. He was a communicant of St. Maurice Church in Stamford and a member of the St. Maurice Grants Committee and Social Activities Committee.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Vita Pavia Smith of Stamford; a son, Carlton W. Smith Jr. of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; three stepsons, Kenneth D'Andrea of Trenton, N.J., Daniel D'Andrea of Cape Coral, Fla., and Brian D'Andrea of Aliso Viejo, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Lisabeth Buzzeo of Stamford; a sister, Marybeth Bernardo of Jacksonville, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

Mary C. Smith, a lifelong Stamford resident and retired bookkeeper, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, at the Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence in Stamford. She was 87.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born Jan. 24, 1915, in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Bridget Lennon Cassidy.
Mrs. Smith was a retired bookkeeper for White Tower Management Co. in Stamford, where she worked for 45 years. She was a member of St. Maurice Church, where she served as a Eucharistic minister. She also was a member of AARP, Catholic Daughters of America and the Morning Glories Bowling League in Stamford.
In her later years, she baby-sat for various local families. She was a dog lover and an avid New York Yankees fan.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Smith of Stamford.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles J. Smith; and a brother, Francis M. Cassidy.

She died of cancer, according to her family.
Born Jan. 9, 1921, in Bridgeport, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Ella Sandor Lazar.
She is survived by her husband, C. Gordon Smith of New Canaan; two sons, Gordon Smith of Vero Beach, Fla., and Gary Smith of Pepperell, Mass.; a daughter, Lisa Chapman of New Canaan; two sisters, Helen Pramer and Velma Syring, both of New Canaan; and three grandchildren.

Maxine Patricia Smith, a longtime Stamford resident, died Sunday, May 30, at Stamford Hospital. She was 79.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born July 15, 1924, in Lebanon, N.H., she was the daughter of the late Harold J. and Ruth Morse.
Mrs. Smith had lived in Stamford for most of her life. A homemaker, she also was a volunteer for the Salvation Army in Stamford.
She is survived by two sons, Charles J. Smith Jr. of Stamford and James M. Smith of Syracuse, N.Y.; a daughter, Sandra Krupenye of Patterson, N.Y.; a brother, Gordon Morse of New Hampshire; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles J. Smith Sr.; and a grandson.
Burial will be private.

Leon D. Smith, a retired teacher and Stamford resident died Saturday, Aug. 9, at Stamford Hospital. He was 75.
He died of natural causes according to his family.
Born Dec. 7, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Abraham and Esther Smith.
Mr. Smith retired in 1992 after spending 25 years as a New York City school teacher.
He served in the U.S. Army after World War II and was instrumental in supporting the Jewish Fellowship of Hemlock Farms in Lords Valley, Penn.
He is survived by his wife, Mollie Steinberg Smith, of Stamford; a daughter, Barbara Smith of Stamford; two sons, Dr. Edward Smith of Old Westbury, N.Y. and Alan Smith of Stamford; a sister Dr. Roslyn Gold of New Hyde Park, N.Y.; and five grandchildren.

Mrs. Smith was a nurse's assistant at Courtland Gardens for seven years. She attended Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Stamford.
She is survived by her husband, Willie Emanuel Hinds of Stamford; two sons, Conroy Morrison and Kirk Morrison, both of Stamford; two daughters, Crispian Green and Camille Hinds, both of Stamford; a brother, Lanzo Barnett of Jamaica; four sisters, Joy Cole, Petrona Smith and Andrea Spencer, all of Jamaica, and Donna Barnett of England; two grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born May 8, 1955, in Stamford, he was the son of Marie A. Smith of Norwalk and the late John G. Smith Jr.
Mr. Smith spent most of his life in Stamford, moving to Norwalk in 2002.

She died of heart failure, according to her family.
Born Dec. 1, 1931, in Stamford, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Yetta Pistiner.
Mrs. Solomon was a homemaker and was employed at St. Joseph Medical Center in Stamford. She also was a member of Agudath Sholom Synagogue and a member of Hadassah.
She is survived by three sons, Daniel Solomon of Los Angeles, Gary Solomon of Santa Monica, Calif., and Ronald Solomon of Los Angeles; a daughter, Claudia Silver of Stamford; and four grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a brother, Irving Pistiner; and a grandson.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 21, at the Agudath Sholom Cemetery.

Mrs. Somerville was raised in Stamford and graduated from Stamford High School. She attended Killingworth Congregational Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher.
She is survived by a son, Alfred C. Somerville Jr. of Killingworth; two daughters, Alyson Somerville of Killingworth and Evelyn S. Cahalen of Ijamsville, Md.; a brother, William Barney of Ocala, Fla.; two sisters, Helen Breitwieser of Fort Myers, Fla., and Rita Robertson of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

William Sontra, a longtime Norwalk resident, died Tuesday, June 3, at Waveny Care Center in New Canaan. He was 92.
He died of natural causes, according to his family.
Born May 24, 1911, in Tornyosnemeti, Hungary, he was the son of the late Stephen Sontra Sr. and Zsuzsanna Gilanyi Sontra.
Mr. Sontra moved to the United States in June 1922 with his grandmother, Mrs. Maria Sontra, and had resided in Norwalk since then.
He was employed as a steamfitter and pipefitter for 28 years in the Stamford area, working for W.R. Johnson, Richards & Jessup Co. Inc. and Charles Horner.
He was a member of the Calvin Reformed Church in Norwalk, where he was chief elder in 1948, then served on the consistory for many years. He was also a member of Plumbers & Pipefitters, Connecticut Local No. 777.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Henczel Sontra; three daughters, Suzanne S. Virgulak and Linda S. VanBuskirk, both of Norwalk, and Margie S. Betts of Black Rock; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Irene Csik Sontra.

Alberto Sperduti, a former resident of Stamford, died Thursday, Jan. 3, in at his home in Boca Raton. He was 75.
He died of metastatic bladder carcinoma, according to his family.
Born Dec. 7, 1926 in Rome, Italy, he was a son of the late Paolo and Anna Maria Sperduti.
Mr. Sperduti was a carpenter and lived in Stamford from 1971 to 1982.
He is survived by his wife, Marisa Sperduti of Boca Raton; three sons, Paolo Sperduti of Boca Raton, Franco Sperduti of Ft. Lauderdale, Massimiliano Sperduti of Delray Beach, Fla.; four daughters, Viviana DiCiolla of Rome, Luciana Siddons of Boca Raton, Gabriella Sperduti of Boca Raton, and Marinella Nealley of Boca Raton; six brothers, Otollo Sperduti of Rome, Franco Sperduti of Boca Raton, Mario Sperduti of Boca Raton, Francesco Sperduti of Stamford, Bruno Sperduti of Boca Raton and Adolfo Sperduti of Stamford; and one sister, Giuliana Valenzisi; eight grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Tommaso Sperduti and Carlo Sperduti.

She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born March 16, 1923, in Norwalk, she was a daughter of the late Carmine and Mary Testa Catena.
Mrs. Spinola was an assembler with Perkin Elmer Corp. for many years. She was a member of AARP and the Perkin Elmer Retirees' Club.
She is survived by two sons, Salvatore J. Spinola Jr. of Kettering and Patrick J. Spinola Sr. of Norwalk; two sisters, Mary Catena and Mildred Guarino, both of Norwalk; a brother, Vincent "Jimmy" Catena of Derby; and four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Salvatore J. Spinola Sr.; a brother, Andrew Catena; and two sisters, Julie Santo and Rose "Babe" Catena.

Born Jan. 10, 1926, in Ukraine, she was a daughter of the late Mary and Peter Basznianyn.
Mrs. Stepankiw was a Stamford resident since 1962.
She was a retired cook of the Holy Protection Monastery in New Canaan, where she worked for 25 years.
She was a member of the St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral in Stamford.
She is survived by two sons, Yaroslaw W. Stepankiw of Acworth, Ga. and Theodore Stepankiw of New Milford; a brother and two sisters in the Ukraine; and three grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jaroslaw Stepankiw.

Alphonso Stephens Jr., a longtime Stamford resident and former machinist, died Tuesday, Dec. 31 at Stamford Hospital. He was 78.
He died of respiratory arrest, according to his death certificate.
Born June 10, 1924, in Durham, N.C., he was the son of the late Alphonso Stephens Sr. and Louise Atwater Bolling.
Mr. Stephens lived in Stamford for more than 50 years. He was a retired machinist for Pitney Bowes in Stamford.
He served in the U. S. Army during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Helen B. Stephens of Stamford; a son, Laurence E. Stephens of Stamford; and a daughter, Carol Covell of Richmond, Va.

Karen Stickney of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Stamford and Greenwich, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Doctor's Hospital of Sarasota. She was 53.
She died of congestive heart failure, according to her family.
Born March 18, 1950, in Milwaukee, she was a daughter of Evelyn "Bobbie" Avery of Sarasota and the late Benjamin F. Avery.
Ms. Stickney attended Greenwich Public Schools. She attended the University of Miami and was a graduate of the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota. She also worked as a freelance graphic artist.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a brother, Christopher Avery of Jefferson, Maine.
Services and burial will be private.

Doris Marie Crawford Stockham of Sedalia, N.C., a former Stamford resident, died Thursday, Oct. 16, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, N.C. She was 76.
She died of heart failure, according to her family.
Born April 7, 1927, in Stamford, she was a daughter of the late Lee and Emma Crawford.
She is survived by a daughter, Nadine Matier of Sedalia, N.C.; a sister, Juanita McClain of Sedalia; two brothers, Homer Crawford of New York City and Henry Crawford of Stamford; a grandchild; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gail Stockham.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1210 Eugene St., Greensboro.
Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park in Greensboro.
Woodard Funeral Home, 3200 N. Ohenry Blvd., Greensboro, handled arrangements.
