Rollin H. Wiggin Jr., a longtime Darien resident, died Thursday, Feb. 13, at Stamford Hospital. He was 78.
He died of natural causes, according to his family.
Born Oct. 23, 1924, in Orange, N.J., he was the son of the late Rollin H. and Isabel May King Wiggin Sr.
Mr. Wiggin graduated from Blair Academy in Blairstown, N.J., and received a bachelor's degree in engineering from Harvard. He received a master's degree from Teachers College at Columbia University.
He was an executive with Turner Construction Co. in various offices in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York from 1947 to 1953. He worked at American Machine and Foundery, formerly in Greenwich, before working as a vice president at the former Eastern Airlines.
He taught math and science at the Thomas School in Stamford (now King & Low-Heywood Thomas School) and at Greenwich Country Day School. He also worked in commercial real estate for Realtech Commercial Division, formerly in New Canaan.
Mr. Wiggin lived in Darien for 50 years. He was a parishioner at St. Luke's Episcopal Church and a member of Noroton Yacht Club. He was a member of Kollegewidgwok Yacht Club and Blue Hill Country Club, both in Blue Hill, Maine.
He is survived by his wife, Emilie Iselin Wiggin of Darien; four daughters, Pamela Wiggin Barry of Rye, N.Y., Katharine Whelpley Draper of Norwalk, Anne Whelpley Shaw of Darien and Patricia Whelpley Barton of Bolinas, Calif.; three sons, Alexander King Wiggin IIof Darien, Theodore Keller Wiggin of Blue Hill and Gordon Brittain Whelpley of Redding; 15 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Lucy Keller Wiggin; and a brother, Alexander King Wiggin.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 1848 Post Road, Darien. The Rev. Anne Kimball will officiate.
Burial will be held in the summer in Blue Hill.

Eugenia "Jean" E. Williams, a longtime resident of Stamford, died Thursday, Nov. 6, at Stamford Hospital. She was 73.
She died of respiratory arrest, according to her family.
Born Sept. 15, 1930, in Birmingham, Ala., she was a daughter of the late John William and Orean Bradford Robinson.
Mrs. Williams lived in Stamford for more than 50 years and was known by her friends and family as "Mom."
She is survived by four brothers, John William Robinson Jr. of Queens, N.Y., Carlton Robinson of Charleston, S.C., Aaron Robinson of the Bronx, N.Y., and Albert D. Robinson of Norwalk; a sister, Jennie Miller of Stamford; three sons, Tommy Williams of Charleston, John Williams Jr. of Stamford and Alvin G. Williams of Bridgeport; three daughters, Renee M. Boyd of Stamford, and Releesa E. Williams and Francine M. Boyd, both of Bridgeport; 13 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and five in-laws.
Mrs. Williams was predeceased by her husband, John Williams Sr.
Calling hours will be 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Bethel AME Church, Fairfield Avenue, Stamford.

Mabel B. Williams, a Stamford resident, died Friday, June 6, at Stamford Hospital. She was 91.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born June 3, 1912, in Davenport, Iowa, she was a daughter of the late Herman and Ellen McGrath Boethjer.
After graduating from high school in Chicago, she moved to Stamford with her family. She worked in a variety of positions throughout her life, including being one of the first female riveters at Douglas Aircraft in Santa Monica, Calif., during World War II.
Mrs. Williams retired from the Department of Employment in El Monte, Calif., and returned to Stamford with her sister in 1984. She was a longtime member of the Independent Order of Foresters.
She is survived by a niece, Nancy Russo of Norwalk; two grandnieces, Diane Sandor of Darien and Lynn Russo of Norwalk; two grandnephews, James Russo of Newtown and Thomas Russo of Norwalk; and four great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
She was predeceased by her sister, Ellen Pecoraro.
Burial will be private in Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, Calif.

Charles H. Wirth
Charles "Charlie" Wirth, a longtime Norwalk resident, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, at Norwalk Hospital. He was 58.
He died of cardiac arrest, according to his family.
Born Sept. 18, 1944, in Pensacola, Fla., he was a son of John C.J. Wirth of Stuart, Fla., and Georgie Herbert Wirth of Wilton.
A resident of Norwalk since 1957, he went to Broad River Elementary and Ponus Ridge Middle schools and graduated from Brien McMahon High School. He worked for Perkin Elmer Corp. as a technical inspector, Clover Manufacturing Corp. as a buyer and production planner, and Howe Furniture Corp. as an assistant in the product design and engineering department.
In spite of becoming a paraplegic at age 18, resulting from a hunting accident, he was active in collecting and repairing old furniture and collectibles, as well as fishing and hunting. He also was an active member of St. Matthew Church in Norwalk.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Wirth is survived by his wife, Carmen Santo Domingo Wirth of Norwalk; two brothers, John Wirth of Dubois, Wy., and Fred Wirth of Norwalk; three sisters, Rose Wirth Schoeller of Spring Hill, Fla., Frances Wirth Rush of Dover, Mass., and Georgette Wirth Salander of Norwalk; and many nieces of nephews.

Anthony Carlton Wise Sr., a Norwalk resident, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. He was 65.
He died of cancer, according to his family.
Born Nov. 18, 1937, in Riverside, N.J., he was the son of the late Andrew J. and Fannie L. Wise.
Mr. Wise graduated from Norwalk High School in 1955 and earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from Virginia Union College. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962.
Mr. Wise owned Lyons Variety on West Avenue and managed Quoddy Footwear in Norwalk. He also owned and managed an apartment building in Norwalk.
He is survived by three sons, Anthony C. Wise Jr. of Norwalk, Scott A. Wise of Simpsonville, S.C., and Randall L. Wise of Norwalk; four grandchildren; and many cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife, Delores J. Wise.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Downer Funeral Home, 75 East Ave., Norwalk.
Friends may gather from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 3, at Grace Baptist Church, 17 West Ave., Norwalk.

Joseph W. Witkowski of Stamford died Friday, Dec. 6, at Courtland Gardens Health Care Center in Stamford. He was 86.
He died of natural causes, according to his family.
Born July 27, 1916, in New Canaan, he was the son of the late Stanley and Mary Dudkowski Witkowski.
Mr. Witkowski lived in Stamford for most of his life. He worked at Machlett Laboratory in Stamford for 25 years until retiring. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church of Stamford.
He is survived by two daughters, Ilene Hoyt and Judy Witkowski, both of Stamford; and three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Ida Marion Johnson Witkowski.

Beatrice Shirley Wofsey

Beatrice Shirley Wofsey, a longtime Stamford resident who also spent time in Longboat Key, Fla., died Thursday, Jan. 1, at Tandet Center in Stamford. She was 85.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born Feb. 26, 1918, in Stamford, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Ida Ross Sosnowitz.
Mrs. Wofsey was a graduate of Pace Institute in New York City and spent two years at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, where she was an honor student.
She was an artist and a longtime member of the Stamford Art Society, and sponsored an annual cash prize for the works of society members.
Mrs. Wofsey also produced more than 125 oil paintings, many stone sculptures and three life-size sculptures of a giraffe, an Egyptian cat and a large bird made of sections of sheet copper welded together. The giraffe was on display on her front lawn for many years.
She spent more than 25 winters on the Caribbean island of Antigua, where she painted the inside and exterior walls of her cottage with Caribbean scenes.
She was president of the Temple Beth El Sisterhood and a member of the Temple Building Committee for the present temple building. She also was art director at the temple for many years.
Mrs. Wofsey was a traveler and visited more than 80 countries.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Earl J. Wofsey of Stamford; a son, Dr. Alan R. Wofsey of Bryn Mawr, Pa.; two sisters, Ruth Miller and Jeanne Klein, both of Stamford; a brother, Donald Sosnowitz of Norwalk; two granddaughters; 13 nieces and nephews; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, at Temple Beth El, 350 Roxbury Road, Stamford.
Burial will follow in Temple Beth El Cemetery.

Ernest A. Woodman of Ashtabula, Ohio, a former longtime Stamford resident, died Monday, Oct. 7, at Park Haven Nursing Home in Ashtabula. He was 94.
He died of natural causes, according to his family.
Born March 23, 1908, in Mamaroneck, N.Y., he was the son of the late William and Mary Haviland Woodman.
Mr. Woodman was a Stamford resident for more than 50 years. He worked for Homelite of Port Chester, N.Y., for 36 years until retiring in 1973. He retired to Greer, S.C., until moving to Ashtabula five years ago. He enjoyed golfing and gardening.
He married Mary Brean on Sept. 25, 1930.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Richard Woodman of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a daughter, Audrey Subwick of Ashtabula; two granddaughters; and a great-granddaughter.
He was predeceased by a son, Allen Woodman; and a sister, Maud Conklin.
A funeral service will be held at a later date.

William J. "Beans" Wright, a lifelong Norwalk resident, died Sunday, Dec. 30, at Norwalk Hospital.
He died of complications from a fall, according to his family.
Born Feb. 20, 1928, in Norwalk, he was the son of the late Thomas and Helen Bua Wright.
Mr. Wright was a firefighter with the Norwalk Fire Department until his retirement in 1982. He was an active supporter of the Norwalk High School Marching Bears.
Mr. Wright was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving as boatswain mate third class. He served on the cruiser USS Houston from 1946 to 1948; the battleship USS Missouri from 1950 to 1953; and the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany from 1953 to 1954.
A U.S. Navy Memorial Plank owner, he was a member of Local 830 I.A.F.F.; American Legion Frank C. Godfrey Post 12; AMVETS; USS Missouri Association; American Battleship Association; Korean War Veterans Association; U.S. Navy Cruiser/Sailors Association; and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by a son, William Kurzbacher of Monroe; a daughter, Diane Ely of Norwalk; and two grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor Carpenter Wright; a daughter, Mary Ann Wright; a sister, Betty Wright Natale; and a grandson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated tomorrow, Jan. 3, at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Ave., Norwalk. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, Richards Ave., Norwalk.

Charlotte Yannieh of Stamford, died Saturday, June 19, at the Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence in Stamford. She was 64.
She died of breast cancer, according to her family.
Born Dec. 6, 1939, in Copenhagen, Denmark, she had lived in Greenwich from 1965 to 1989, before moving to Stamford.
Mrs. Yannieh worked as a clerk for Macy's department store in Stamford for 17 years.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Samir Yannieh of Stamford; a daughter, Michelle Zimnoch of East Hampton; two sons, Henrik Yannieh of Newington and Martin Yannieh of Stamford; a sister, Jytte Streibig of Copenhagen; a brother, Jens Streibig of Copenhagen; a grandson; and many nieces and cousins.

Irene A. Yark, a longtime Stamford resident, died Monday, Dec. 2, at her home. She was 60.
She died of complications of myatonic dystrophy, according to her family.
Born Nov. 6, 1942, in College Point, Queens, N.Y., she was the daughter of Josephine Healy Thumm of College Point and the late Warren A. Thumm Sr.
Mrs. Yark moved to Stamford in 1970. She worked at Courtland Gardens Residence for many years, at first providing housekeeping services and later as a certified nursing assistant. She was also an active member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Stamford chapter of the National Federation for the Blind, where she served as corresponding secretary.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son, Erik R. Yark of Stamford; two brothers, Warren Thumm of College Point and William Thumm of Medford, N.Y.; two sisters, Susan Thumm of College Point and Nancy Knecht of Sussex, N.J.; a grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, John A. Yark; and two daughters, Kristine Yark-Cook and Johanna Yark.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Zion Lutheran Church, 132 Glenbrook Road, Stamford. Her nephew, the Rev. J. David Knecht, will officiate.

Ester Yellen, a homemaker and a Stamford resident for 12 years, died Wednesday, Dec. 25, at Somers Manor in Somers, N.Y. She was 98.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born May 24, 1904, in Warsaw, Poland, she was the daughter of the late Abraham and Chava Pontofel.
Mrs. Yellen was a member of Congregation Aguduth Sholom in Stamford.
She is survived by a daughter, Lillian Lederman of Somers; a son, Abe Yellen of Stamford; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Yellen.
A graveside service will take place at 12:30 p.m. today, Dec. 27, at Beth David in Elmont, N.Y.
Shiva will be observed at the home of Lillian Lederman in Somers on Sunday, Dec. 29; and at the home of Abe Yellen in Stamford on Monday, Dec. 30.

Lisa Lea Yennie of East Hartford died Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She was 34.
She died of cancer, according to her family.
Born Sept. 2, 1969, in Hartford, she was a daughter of Charles Yennie of Hartford and Pauline Massini-Yennie of Norwalk.
Ms. Yennie was raised in New Britain and lived in East Hartford for many years.
She enjoyed sweets and fast food and hated cheese.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Charles Paul Yennie of Waterbury; an aunt; a great-aunt; and many cousins.

Rosario B. Yepez of Dallas died Sunday, Dec. 21, at home in Guayaquil, Ecuador. She was 73.
She died of cancer, according to her family.
Born March 26, 1930, in Guayaquil, she was the daughter of the late Marino and Maria Estrella.
A former Stamford resident, Mrs. Yepez was a homemaker, seamstress and handcrafter. In July 1999, she was baptized as a Jehovah's Witness and was associated with the Spanish Congregation in Greenwich.
Mrs. Yepez is survived by two sons, Nelson Yepez of Guayaquil and Carlos Yepez of Miami; two daughters, Cecilia Stolfi of Dallas and Jacqueline Radice of Greenwich; five brothers, Lincoln Estrella, Adulfo Estrella and Belisario Estrella, all of Stamford, and Pedro Vera and Oton Vera of Guayaquil; a sister, Marina Salazar of Guayaquil; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Carols E. Yepez Sr.

Anna Taras Yewush, a longtime Stamford resident, died Thursday, Oct. 23, at the Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence in Stamford. She was 82.
She died of cancer, according to her family.
Born July 9, 1921, in New York City, she was a daughter of the late Jacob Taras and Tekla Kozey Taras.
Mrs. Yewush worked as an operator for SNET.
A Stamford resident for 41 years, she was a member of the Glenbrook Club and Springdale Club for seniors and the AARP.
She is survived by two daughters, Joanne Brown of Darien and Barbara Ward of Norwalk; a sister, Olga LaMorte of Staten Island, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William Yewush.

Fred Young, a longtime Stamford resident and retired employee of Machlett Laboratories, died Thursday, May 29, at Stamford Hospital. He was 82.
He died of natural causes, according to his family.
Born June 29, 1920, in St. Francisville, La., he was a son of the late Whitty and Viola McNeally Young.
Mr. Young lived in Stamford for more than 60 years. He worked for Machlett Laboratories, formerly in Stamford, manufacturing moldings and x-ray tubes, for more than 25 years.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He attended Union Baptist Church in Stamford.
He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Young of Stamford; and three grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Betty Edmundson Young; a daughter, Barbara Richardson; eight brothers, Eugene Young, Lucius Young, Robert Young, Preston Young, Charles Young, Whitty Young Jr., Ivory Young and Joseph Young; and a sister, Lillie Young Payton.

Joan M. Yurkovic, a telephone operator and longtime Stamford resident, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, at Smith House Health Care Center. She was 71.
She died of heart failure, according to her family.
Born June 7, 1932, in Greenwich, she was a daughter of the late Lewis and Mary Humenick Dudas.
Mrs. Yurkovic worked for SNET as a telephone operator in Norwalk for 25 years.
She is survived by two sons, Dean J. Yurkovic and Paul Yurkovic, both of Stamford; a daughter, Shirley Yurkovic of Stamford; and four grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Rudolph Yurkovic; a son, Louis Yurkovic; and two brothers and two sisters.

Gregory Zak of Norwalk, a computer consultant, died Monday, June 16, at home. He was 45.
He died of heart complications, according to his family.
Born Feb. 24, 1958, in Buffalo, N.Y., he was the son of Theodore and Annmarie Zak of Buffalo.
He attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. in 1976 where he earned his bachelor's degree in English. He received his master's degree in English from the University of Chicago.
Mr. Zak had been a resident of Norwalk since 1987. There he started his own business from home, Common Sense Consulting, an information technology company.
He was an avid cook and also enjoyed gambling on horse racing.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his partner, Douglas McClure of Norwalk; his brother, Jeffrey Zak of Buffalo; and his grandmother, Wanda Zak of Buffalo.
There will be a private burial on Thursday, July 17, in Buffalo.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 20 at the Sons of Italy, 162 New Canaan Ave., Norwalk.

Jayne J. Zarmsky of Norwalk, a former longtime Stamford resident, died Thursday, Oct. 23, at St. Francis Health Care Center in Hartford. She was 77.
She died of pulmonary fibrosis, according to her family.
Born Dec. 16, 1925, in Harvey, Ill., she was the daughter of the late William and Margaret Hayes Jassen.
Mrs. Zarmsky attended the University of Chicago. She worked for many years as an administrative assistant for Union Trust Company, now Wachovia, in Stamford. She resided in Stamford for about 50 years before moving to Monroe and later Norwalk.
She is survived by three sons, Steven Zarmsky of Farmington, William Zarmsky of White Plains, N.Y. and Frank Zarmsky Jr. of Middletown; two daughters, Jennifer Pinto of Monroe and Christine Zarmsky of Norwalk; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Zarmsky Sr.
Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at the Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford.
Funeral services and burial will be private.

Ann Zavory, a longtime Norwalk resident, died Sunday, June 20, at Notre Dame Convalescent Home in Norwalk. She was 82.
She died of heart failure, according to her family.
Born July 26, 1921, in Bresno, Czechoslovakia, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary Repka Rastocky.
A Norwalk resident for most of her life, Mrs. Zavory was a member of the Calvin Reformed Church and the Sokol Club.
She was employed by Pepperidge Farm in Norwalk for more than 25 years until her retirement in 1985.
She is survived by three sons, Kenneth Zavory of Fairfield, David Zavory of Norwalk and John Zavory of Danbury; two sisters, Irene Criscoulo of Vero Beach, Fla., and Mary Saviano of Westport; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of almost 50 years, Gabor Zavory; a brother, Ladislau Rastocky; and a grandson.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. today, June 22, at Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk.
A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. The Rev. Leslie Martin, pastor of the Calvin Reformed Church, Norwalk, will officiate.
Burial will be private.
