The Memorial Mass for Timothy J. Capone will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 2, at St. Cecilia's Church, 1180 Newfield Ave., Stamford. A resident of North Andover, Mass., and formerly of Stamford, Mr. Capone died Thursday, Feb. 7, at New England Medical Center in Boston. He was 44. He died of cancer, according to his family. John Wesley Brown of Stamford died Sunday, Feb. 17, at Stamford Hospital. He was 94. He died of heart failure, according to his family. Born Oct. 12, 1907, in Camden, S.C., he was the son of the late Abraham and Lizzie Hunter Brown. Mr. Brown worked for Rubino Brothers in Stamford for more than 20 years. He was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church of Stamford. He is survived by a son, Richard A. Brown of Stamford; a brother, George Williams of Norristown, Pa.; two sisters, Shannie Rutledge of Landover, Md., and Estelle Thomas of Washington, D.C.; 17 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Julia Ann Williams Brown; four brothers, Hosea Brown, Leroy Brown, Willie Brown and Murdick Brown; and a sister, Adlisha Williams. Calling hours will be 9 to 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 25, at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 150 Fairfield Ave., Stamford. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. A. Thomas Brigante, a longtime Norwalk resident, died Sunday, June 16, in Norwalk Hospital. He was 74. He died of natural causes, according to his family. Born Oct. 18, 1927, in Waterbury, he was a son of the late Michael and Vincenza Latierza Brigante. Mr. Brigante was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He retired from the Norwalk Police Department as a sergeant in 1978 after 25 years in service. He was commander of the department's marine division. In the 1980s, he was CEO of New England Pollution Control Co., based in Norwalk. He retired in 1986. He was the first president of the Norwalk Seaport Association and one of the original organizers of the Norwalk Oyster Festival. He is survived by his wife, Jennie Ann Pinto Brigante of Norwalk; a son, Thomas Brigante of Easton; a daughter, Michele Roos of Norwalk; two brothers, Michael Brigante Jr. of Norwalk and Vincent Brigante of Deltona, Fla.; two sisters, Mary Varricchio of Stamford and Jennie Andrasi of Zephyr Hills, Fla.; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Maria Brigante; four brothers, Felix "Phil" Brigante, William Brigante, Joseph Brigante and Anthony Brigante; and a sister, Sandra Pelligrino. Bessie Lee Breeden, a 37-year Stamford resident, died Saturday, July 6, in Stamford Hospital. She was 55. She died of cancer, according to her family. Born Dec. 5, 1946, in Dillon, S.C., she was a daughter of the late John and Rosa Lee Campbell Breedon. Mrs. Breeden worked for the human resources department of the city of Stamford for 22 years. She was a member of Community Tabernacle of Deliverance Church in Stamford. She was a member of the Phyllis Wheatley Temple IVPO 179 of the Elks for 15 years. She received the highest honors of the Elks as Past Granddaughter Ruler in 1997 in Louisville, Ky. She is survived by three daughters, Jackie Breeden of Stamford, Tina Catchings of Norwalk and Paula Mitchell of Bridgeport; two brothers, Lavonda Breeden of Fayetteville, N.C., and Edward Breeden of Dillon; five sisters, Gloria Smiling, Amy Ragin, and Eva Breeden, all of Dillon; and Bettie Bethea and Irene Colvin, both of Stamford; four grandchildren, three aunts, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Tisha Breeden and a brother, Freddie Breeden. Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. to noon, Thursday, July 11, at Community Tabernacle of Deliverance Church, 198 Selleck St., Stamford. A funeral service will follow at the church at noon. Lena H. Bonis, a longtime Norwalk resident, died Wednesday, March 13 at her home. She was 83. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born on Nov. 27, 1918 in Utica, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Vincenza Geramino Pensiero. A resident of Norwalk for over 25 years, Mrs. Bonis was a prior resident of Preston and Stamford. She is survived by her husband, Anthony Bonis of Norwalk; three daughters, Carol Keeler of Jacksonville, Fla., Virginia L. Kuti of Norwalk and Toni J. Bartram of Bethel; two brothers, John Pensiero and Joseph Pensiero, both of Stamford; three sisters, Rose Golino of Norwalk, and Mary Volpe and Angelina Ganino, both of Stamford; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours are between 3 and 6 p.m. Sunday, March 17 at Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk. Filomena Vento Bisecco, a longtime Norwalk resident, died Tuesday, June 25, at the Lord Chamberlain Manor in Stratford. She was 85. She died of natural causes, according to her family. Born Aug. 24, 1916, in Minturno, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Dominick and Catherine Patrizio Vento. Mrs. Bisecco moved to the area in 1936. She worked for the Edwards Co. for more than 25 years; before that she worked for Myers Manufacturing. She is survived by a son, Frank E. Bisecco of West Haven; two brothers, Patsy Vento and Salvatore Vento, both of Norwalk; a sister, Giovanna Correnti of Minturno, Italy; three grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two daughters, Catherine Bisecco and Mary Harrick; three brothers, Mario Vento, Dominick Vento and Joseph Vento; and two sisters, Antoinetta Morabito and Maria Rizzi. Calling hours were held from 7 to 9 p.m. yesterday, June 26, and will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, June 27, at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 28, at Parkway Assembly of God, 260 New Canaan Ave., Norwalk, the Pastor Dan Mariano officiating. Andrew "Chile" J. Bellanti, a Stamford resident, died Friday, April 19, in Lakeport, Calif. He was 89. He died of a stroke, according to his family. Born March 12, 1913, in New York City, he was the son of the late John and Rose Moleti Bellanti. Mr. Bellanti served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as an insurance broker in Brooklyn, N.Y., for 50 years and was a member of the American Association of Insurance Brokers. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by two daughters, Prudence McCafferty of Easton and Rosemary Sherman of Lakeport, Calif.; four granddaughters; and one great-grandson. He was predeceased by two sisters, Fara Tomarchio and Prudence Mello. Calling hours will be 8:30 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford. Boniface Banasik, a resident of Smith House and formerly of Maple View Towers in Stamford, died Friday, April 5, at Stamford Hospital. He was 89. He died of cancer, according to his family. Born May 6, 1912 in Czestochowa, Poland, he was the son of the late Joseph and Victoria Kusmierska Banasik. He completed his studies in mechanical engineering and aviation in Poznan in 1934, and later joined the war effort. He was captured and sent to a Siberian concentration camp. When the Russians became allies, he was released to Britain where his group of Polish aviators joined the Royal Air Force in 1942. He became a warrant officer and was a bombardier for the 301st Squadron. He flew 25 bombing missions over Germany. He was one of three of a class of 25 to return home at the end of their tour. He received the Air Force Medal for bravery, the Cross of Valor, and the 301st Squadron Operational Tour Medal. After the war Mr. Banasik worked as a design engineer in England, and later moved with his family to Massachusetts where he worked at Whitin Machine Works. He later worked as an air pollution control engineer for the city of Stamford Department of Health. He was a ranked bridge player and was active in clubs in Stamford, Darien and Norwalk in the 1960s and 70s. He was an international scout master and had been active with the Boy Scouts of America in the 1960s. He is survived by a son, Robert Banasik of Bethel, and two granddaughters. In addition to his wife, Margaret Coupe Banasik, he was predeceased by a daughter, Victoria Banasik. Calling hours are 10:45 a.m. April 13 at St. Mary Church, 24 Dodgingtown Road, Bethel. A memorial Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the church. Glen Michael Balducci of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., died Tuesday, June 25, at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y. He was 49. He died of cancer, according to his family. Born April 27, 1953, in Baltimore, Md., he was the son of Dominic Balducci of Yonkers, N.Y., and the late Lucille Provanzano Balducci, who died in 1966. Mr. Balducci served in the U.S. Army from 1974 to 1976. He was an executive chef at Holiday Inn of Danbury. He is survived by his wife, Michelle DiBernardino Balducci of Wappingers Falls; two daughters, Nicole Marie Balducci and Christina Lynn Balducci, both of Wappingers Falls; a sister, Donna Hughes of Stamford; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today, at Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Home Inc., 1028 Main St., Fishkill, N.Y. William J. Avalos Sr., of Vero Beach, Fla., a former longtime Stamford resident, died Sunday, June 16, at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was 76. He died of cardiac arrest, according to his family. Born Sept. 6, 1925 in Stamford, he was a son of the late Joseph D. and Agnes Troy Avalos . Mr. Avalos was a captain in the Stamford Fire Department, which he served for 32 years. He served as superintendent of fire alarms, and was made an honorary member of the Big Five volunteer fire departments in Stamford. During World War II, he was an electrician's mate on the USS Columbia and survived kamikaze attacks on the ship in 1945. The crew of the USS Columbia earned a Navy Unit Commendation for saving the ship after being hit by multiple suicide attacks and continuing their mission without interruption. The Columbia received 10 battle stars for World War II service. He is a member of the Kamikaze Survivors group. Mr. Avalos was a past member of St. Bridget Church in Stamford and a member of St. Augustine Council of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Hubbard Avalos of Vero Beach, Fla.; two sons, Joseph Avalos of Naugatuck, and William Avalos Jr. of Stamford; a daughter, Diane Lee Ethier of Naugatuck; a sister, Elizabeth Ofiero of Vero Beach, Fla., and five grandchildren. William Francis Asher, a longtime Greenwich resident, died Thursday, June 20, at Greenwich Hospital. He was 82. He died of heart failure, according to his family. Born Feb. 6, 1920, in Long Island City, N.Y., he was a son of the late Frank and Mary Corbett Asher. Mr. Asher's family moved in 1922 to Greenwich, where he spent the rest of his life. Mr. Asher attended St. Mary Elementary School in Greenwich and graduated from St. Ann's Academy in New York City. He earned an accounting degree from Merrill Business School. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army 45th Infantry Division, Company E, 179th Infantry in the European Theater from North Africa to Munich. He participated in invasions and battles in Sicily, Salerno and Anzio. He worked as a sales representative for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. and was a past president of the Southwestern Connecticut Life Underwriters Association. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Greenwich Senior Center, the Order of Redmen and the AARP. Mr. Asher was active in the Democratic party and ran for the state Senate against Florence Finney. A communicant of St. Mary Church, he was one of its first lay readers and served as an usher. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Armstrong Asher of Greenwich; three daughters, Amy Asher Callahan of Hamden, Joan Asher of Stamford and Beth Asher of Greenwich; a son, William Asher of Stamford; and a granddaughter. He was predeceased by a brother, Gordon Asher. Calling hours will be 2 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 24 at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch St., Greenwich. Julius F. Alston, a Stamford resident, died Saturday, June 22 at Stamford Hospital. He was 57. He died of complications from kidney disease, according to his family. Born May 13, 1945, in Beaufort, S.C., he was the son of the late Joseph J. and Sadie M. Alston. Mr. Alston was the owner of American Maintenance in Stamford for over 25 years. He is survived by a daughter, Kyla Alston-Evans of Stamford; a sister, Jerrie Alston-Crenshaw of Stratford; two brothers, Joseph Alston of Norwalk and James Alston of Stratford; two grandsons; and many nieces and nephews. Mary Florence Agosto of Trumbull, a former longtime Darien resident, died Monday, Feb. 18, at home. She was 82. She died of natural causes, according to his family. Born Oct. 1, 1919 in Stamford, she was the daughter of the late Vito and Florence Tuscano Candito. Mrs. Agosto worked for Darien Public Schools. She also worked as a home health care practitioner. She was a member of St. John's Church in Darien and a member of the Piedmont Auxiliary. Mrs. Agosto lived in Darien from 1939 until 2001, when she moved to Trumbull to live with her daughter, Linda Waldo. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by a son, George V. Agosto of Crossville, Tenn.; four brothers, Fred Candito, Albert Candito and Val Candito, all of Stamford, and Rudolph Candito of San Marcos, Calif.; four sisters, Vera Zajkowski, Jean Ciuffo and Martha Ciuffo, all of Stamford, and Nancy Miller of San Marcos; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, George J. Agosto, in 1991; and a daughter, Jo-ann Synnott. There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Saturday, Feb. 23 at St. John's Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien. Burial will follow in Spring Grove cemeteryin Darien.
