Rose Bertha (Wieczorek) Marek
NEW BRITAIN – Rose Bertha (Wieczorek) Marek, 91, of Slater Road, the widow of Stephen Marek Sr., died Sunday morning (February 2, 2003) at a local convalescent home. Born in New Britain, the daughter of the late Wladyslaw and the late Rosalia Wieczorek, she attended local schools, and was a dietary supervisor at New Britain General Hospital until her retirement. She was a member of St. Jerome Church, the New Britain Senior Center, and was an active square dancer and bowler. She is survived by a son, Stephen Marek Jr. of New Britain, three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patricia Manchak of New Britain, Dorothy and Paul Speranza of New Britain, Barbara and Zigmund Stanowski of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, two sisters, Anna Urso of Wethersfield, and Helen Snietka of Southington, three sisters-in-law, Anne Wieczorek and Peggy Stevens, both of Unionville, and Mary Forman of Manchester, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday (February 5, 2003) at 9am from Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway in Kensington, with a Funeral Liturgy at 10am at St. Jerome Church on Slater Road in New Britain. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday (February 4, 2003) from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Avenue, P.O. Box 1004, Meriden 06450-1004, or to the New Britain Senior Center, 55 Pearl Street, New Britain 06051.

Paul F. McAdoo
KENSINGTON – Paul F. McAdoo, 80, of Farmington Avenue, loving husband of Theresa (Roy) McAdoo, died Monday (August 19, 2002) at his home with his family at his side. The son of the late George S. and the late Pauline (Lucier) McAdoo, he was raised in Hudson, New Hampshire, graduated from Nashua High School, class of 1939, and served in the US Navy in the Pacific Theater in WWII. He was employed in the foundry business for many years until his retirement, including the family establishment of the McAdoo Foundry in New Britain. He was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, and V.F.W. Post 10732. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Aimee and Stephen Mattingly of Derry, New Hampshire, and Georgia and Stash Zdanuk of Berlin, a son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Ann McAdoo of West Simsbury, three sisters, Marian, Andrea, and Allena McAdoo, all of Newington, six grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Olin, Raymond, and Edwin McAdoo, and one sister, Colleen Medon. A memorial service will be held Tuesday (August 27, 2002) at 10am at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 147 West Main Street, New Britain. Committal of the body will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in his memory to the Memorial Fund of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1214, New Britain 06050.

Anne (Childress) Moore
FARMINGTON - Anne (Childress) Moore, 97, of Farmington, passed away Thursday (May 15, 2003) at the John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington. The eldest of four daughters of the late Avent and Madeline Mackay Childress of Scarsdale, New York, she was a 1925 graduate of the Spence School in New York City, after which, she was a buyer for Bonwit Teller and a fashion model at Bergdorf Goodman, both in Manhattan. In 1929 she was married to Edward Gillette Selden, and was active in coordinating numerous events, theatrical performances and fashion shows for various charitable organizations. Mr. Selden died very young in 1938, leaving his wife and two small children. In 1941, Mrs. Moore (then Selden) married Dr. Gray Carter of Greenwich, just months before he joined the Yale Medical Team in the European Theater in WWII. After the war and they settled in Greenwich, CT where Dr. Carter continued his medical practice and became Chief of Staff at the Greenwich Hospital, and she was an active volunteer in the Greenwich community, working devotedly for the Greenwich Hospital Auxiliary, Christ Episcopal Church and St. Barnabas Church. Dr. Carter died in l968. In l973 she married Maxwell Moore of Farmington, in the First Church of Christ, Congregational, and they had many wonderful years of devoted marriage, spending time in their Farmington home, on Martha's Vineyard, and in Naples, Florida before she was widowed again in December1994. She continued her strong Christian support of the First Church, participating in many of the church's activities, and was also active in her summertime church, Union Chapel of Oak Bluffs, MA, where she was a member of the Board of Governors. She lived a full and vibrant life, and her great grace, charm and Christian spirit have enriched all who knew her. She is survived by scores of admiring friends and relations, including her daughter and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Norton Reed of Buffalo, New York, her son, Edward Gillette Selden, Jr. of Norwalk, her sister, Mary Adair Moore of North Carolina, her stepdaughter, Leslie Carter of Hampden, her step-children Benjamin and Paddy Moore, Martha Moore, Gay and Art Nelson, all of Martha's Vineyard, and Alexander and Mary Moore of Providence, Rhode Island, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, and fifteen Moore step-grandchildren and twelve step-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Mrs. Thaddeus Edmund Beck Jr.(Madeline Childress) and Mrs. Peyton Claiborne Auxford (Sarah Childress). A memorial service will be held on Saturday (May 31, 2003) at 11:00 am at the First Church of Christ, Congregational, in Farmington. Internment will private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to First Church of Christ, Congregational, 75 Main Street, Farmington 06032.

Madeline Mary (Errede) Neri
BERLIN – Madeline Mary (Errede) Neri, 90, of 317 Lower Lane, the widow of the late Eno Neri, died Wednesday morning (March 19, 2003) at Hospice in Branford. Born in New Britain, the daughter of the late Nicola and the late Maria (Martinelli) Errede, she graduated from New Britain High School, and was employed at the Town of Berlin Parks and Recreation Department until her retirement. She was a member of St. Paul’s Church. She is survived by a son, James Neri with whom she made her home, a daughter, Mary-Ann Neri of Sherman Oaks, California, a brother, Louis Errede of Wayzata, Minnesota, two grandchildren, Chaila and Gina Genovese, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday (March 24, 2003) at 9am from Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway in Kensington, with a Funeral Liturgy at 10am at St. Paul’s Church on Alling Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday (March 23, 2003) from 4-7pm. Those who wish may make donations in her memory to Hospice of Greater Central Connecticut, 40 East Street, Plainvlle 06062, or to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Avenue, P.O. Bernard William Murphy
EAST BERLIN – Bernard William Murphy, 87, of East Berlin, beloved husband of Florence (Beard) Murphy for fifty-nine years, died Wednesday morning (January 8, 2003) at New Britain General Hospital. Born in Meriden, the son of the late Joseph and the late Eleanor (Cashan) Murphy, he lived in Berlin for fifty years, retired from the US Navy after twenty years, having served in both WWII and in Korea, and was employed at Pratt and Whitney in East Hartford for twenty years until his retirement. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in East Berlin where he was a member of the Men’s Club, the Knights of Columbus, V.F.W. Post #10732, and the Berlin Senior’s Bowling League. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, William and Bette-Ann Murphy of Meriden, and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday (January 11, 2003) at 10am directly at Sacred Heart Church on Cottage Street in East Berlin. Burial with full military honors will follow in Wilcox Cemetery, East Berlin. Friends and relatives are invited to call at Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway in Kensington on Friday (January 10, 2003) from 6-8pm. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to The American Lung Association, 45 Ash Street, East Hartford 06108-3272.

Eleanor (Zack) Lavigne
BERLIN – Eleanor (Zack) Lavigne, 61, of Four Rod Road, widow of Norman Lavigne, died Thursday (March 13, 2003) at New Britain General Hospital. Born in New Britain, The daughter of the late Stanley E. and the late Monica A. (Cieniewicz) Zack, she attended local schools, cherished a life in her culinary involvement with a number of restaurants, and was employed at the State Veteran’s Hospital until her retirement. She was a member of St. Paul’s Church, and the Women’s Auxiliary of Amercan Legion Post #68. She is survived by a son, Jeffrey Lavigne of Berlin, three daughters, Shelley Lavigne of East Haddam, Pamela Lavigne of Jacksonville, Florida, and Cynthia Zack of Key West, Florida, a brother, William Zack in Florida, five grandchildren, Jeffrey, Tracy, and Brian Lavigne, and Brittany and Christian Zack, two great-grandchildren, a niece, and a nephew. Dual funeral services for Eleanor and her mother, Monica A. Zack who died in November 2002, will be held Tuesday (March 18, 2003) at 9am from Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway in Kensington, with a Funeral Liturgy for both at 10am at St. Paul’s Church. Burial of both Eleanor and her mother will follow in Maple Cemetery, Berlin. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday (March 17, 2003) from 5-7pm. Those who wish may make donations in their memory to Berlin Public Health Nursing Service, 240 Kensington Road, Kensington 06037.

Henry Charles Cayer Jr.
BERLIN – Henry Charles Cayer Jr., 49, of Hartford, formerly of Berlin, died Wednesday (July 31, 2002) at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford. Born in New Britain, the son of Eleanor (Scagliotti) and the late Henry Charles Cayer, he attended Berlin schools, and was employed for a time at Hank’s Automotive on Farmington Avenue, New Britain. He was a member of Berlin Congregational Church. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Henry Charles Cayer III, a brother, Barry Cayer of Berlin, two sisters, Lida Huggins of Middlefield, and Elizabeth Cayer of Berlin, several nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Arthur B. Powers, Jr.. All who knew him will miss him dearly. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday (August 6, 2002) at 6:30pm at Berlin Congregational Church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to Immaculate Conception Shelter and Housing Corporation, 560 Park Street, Hartford, 06126, or to the Memorial Fund of Berlin Congregational Church, 878 Worthington Ridge, Berlin 06037.
