Richard Scagliotti
BERLIN – Richard Scagliotti, 52, of 1014 Farmington Avenue, died Wednesday (July 31, 2002) at home. Born in New Britain, the son of Mary Pearl (Hinton) and the late Richard Scagliotti, he graduated from Berlin High School, and was employed by Newman Brothers Amusements and Vending. In addition to his mother, he is survived by two aunts, Eleanor Cayer and Candida Gagliardi, both of Berlin, one uncle, Quentin Hinton of Colchester, several cousins, and many very close and dedicated friends who will miss him dearly. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday (August 6, 2002) at 6:30pm at Berlin Congregational Church, 878 Worthington Ridge. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to Berlin Public Health Nursing Service, 240 Kensington Road, Berlin 06037.

Dr. Hugh Edward O’Reilly Sr.
KENSINGTON – Dr. Hugh Edward O’Reilly Sr., 76, of Kensington, husband of Sylvia (Roberts) O’Reilly, died Thursday morning (January 23, 2003) at his home. Born in New York City, he received his Bachelor’s degree from St. Peter’s College, his medical degree from New York State Medical College, served in the Army Air Corps in WWII, and was an associate at New Britain Obstetrics and Gynecology Group on Hart Street until his retirement. Dr. O’Reilly served as the Chief of OB/GYN at New Britain General Hospital, was an associate professor at the University of Connecticut Medical School, and was an elected member of the Berlin Board of Education. He was a member of St. Paul’s Church, the Shuttle Meadow Country Club, and the Central Connecticut Radio Controlled Model Airplane Club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and a son-in-law, Kelly and John Considine of Stamford, three sons and a daughter-in-law, Biff J. and Jeanne O’Reilly of Greenwich, Hugh E. O’Reilly Jr. of New York City, and Daniel G. O’Reilly of Charlestown, Massachusetts, three brothers and sisters-in-law, James P. and Jane O’Reilly of Greenville, South Carolina, Eugene and Delores O’Reilly of Ridgewood, New Jersey, and Edward J. and Donna O’Reilly of Kansas City Missouri, a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and John Harkins of Fernandina Beach, Florida, two grandsons, Christopher and Edward O’Reilly, an uncle, The Rev. Daniel Lanahan O.F.M., and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday (January 27, 2003) at 9am from Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway in Kensington, with a Funeral Liturgy at 10am at St. Paul Church on Alling Street. Spring burial will be in Smith Meeting House Cemetery, Gilmanton, New Hampshire. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday (January 26, 2003) from 2-6pm. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to The George Bray Cancer Center, New Britain General Hospital, P.O. Box 100, New Britain 06050-9923.

Craig Robert Pagella
SOUTHINGTON – Craig Robert Pagella, 54, of Andrews Street, formerly of Berlin, husband of Rose Marie (Mariano) Pagella, died Saturday (December 7, 2002) at Hartford Hospital after a long illness. Born in New Britain, the son of the late Elio and the late Anne (Walsh) Pagella, he graduated from Berlin High School and from Quinnipiac College, served in the Army Reserve, and was general manager of Companion Industries in Southington. He was a charter member of the Nutmeg Beagle Club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Steven Pagella of Waterford, a daughter, Megan Pagella of Southington, a brother, James Pagella of Natick, Massachusetts, two sisters, Lorraine Hrubiec of Berlin, and Kathryn Carfi of Glastonbury, a sister-in-law, Mary Joan Nappi of Reading, Massachusetts, and several nieces and nephews. A prayer service will be held Tuesday (December 10, 2002) at 10am at Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway in Kensington. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday (December 9, 2002) from 5-8pm, and on Tuesday (December 10, 2002) from 9am until the time of the service. Beatrice Louise (Conner) Sawyer
NEW BRITAIN – Beatrice Louise (Conner) Sawyer, 70, of Winthrop Street, the widow of Raymond Lawrence Sawyer Sr., died Friday (April 18, 2003) at a local convalescent home. Born in New Britain, the daughter of the late Harrison Conner Sr. and the late Helen (Wacker) Conner, she graduated from New Britain High School, and was employed at Moore Medical in New Britain until her retirement. She was a former member of First Church of Christ, Congregational, New Britain. She is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Raymond Sawyer Jr. of New Britain, John Sawyer of San Diego, California, and James and Christine Sawyer of Newington, two daughters and two son-in-law, Jeanne and Donald Peet in Florida, and Louise and Gregory Campbell of New Britain, a brother, Harrison Conner Jr. of Berlin, a sister, Mary Rodick of Southington, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Friends and relatives are invited to call at Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway in Kensington on Tuesday (April 22, 2003) from 6-8pm. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home Tuesday evening at 7pm, The Rev. Steven Crabtree officiating. A graveside service will be held Wednesday (April 23, 2003) at 11a.m. in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain.

Gertrude Ann (Schulz) Schilling
NEW BRITAIN – Gertrude Ann (Schulz) Schilling, 93, of 89 Cedarwood Drive, wife of Joseph Thomas Schilling, died Monday morning (November 25, 2002) at New Britain General Hospital. Born in New Britain, the daughter of the late William and the late Anna (Pfeiffer) Schulz, she graduated from New Britain High School, and was employed at the State of Connecticut Department of Education until her retirement. She was a member of St. Maurice Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Robert Schilling of Framingham, Massachusetts, a daughter, Joan Morse of Visalia, California, a brother, Werner Schulz of West Hartford, ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Lois DePolo, and a brother, Herbert Schulz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday (November 29, 2002) at 10am at St. Maurice Church, 100 Wightman Road, New Britain. Burial will follow in West Lane Cemetery, Kensington. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in her memory to Visiting Nurse And Home Care Services of Central Connecticut, 205 West Main Street, P. O. Box 1327, New Britain 06050-1327.

Dr. Joseph Francis Scholand
KENSINGTON - Dr. Joseph Francis Scholand, 62, of Orchard Road, husband of Clare Scholand, died Saturday night (January 25, 2003) at his home with his family at his side. Born in Rochester, New York, the son of the late Francis and the late Coletta Scholand, he received his Bachelor's degree from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, and his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston, served as a physician in the US Army Medical Corps in Vietnam, served his internship and residency at Ohio State University Hospital, and received Board Certification in Infectious Diseases. He joined Grove Hill Clinic in August, 1973, in Internal Medicine with Infectious Diseases sub-specialty, and was a member of the Hartford County Medical Association. He was an active member of St. Joseph's Parish in New Britain since 1975 where he held numerous positions within the Parish, including Parish Council president, St. Joseph's School Board president, founder and chairman of St. Joseph's Bingo Committee, chairman of the Arch Diocesan School Board, and Lector and Eucharistic Minister in the Parish, and served on the PTA of both Mercy and Xavier High School in Middletown. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Dr. Andrew and Karen Scholand of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Dr. Stephen Scholand of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Michael and Jane Scholand of Falls Church, Virginia, a daughter and son-in-law, Fiona and Bradley Evans in central Asia, three brothers, Francis Scholand of Rochester, New York, Martin Scholand of East Berlin, Pennsylvania, and David Scholand of Fredonia, New York, three grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Liturgy will be held Friday (January 31, 2003) at 10 a.m. directly at St. Joseph's Church, 195 South Main Street, New Britain. Interment in Rochester, New York, will be at the convenience of the family. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the Porter's Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway in Kensington on Thursday (January 30, 2003) from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Joseph Scholand Memorial Scholarship Fund, St. Joseph's School, 29 Edison Street, New Britain, Connecticut, 06051 or to A Rabies-Free World, Inc., a charity started by his son, c/o Dr. Stephen J. Scholand, Infectious Diseases Department, Thomas Jefferson University, 125 South 9th Street, Suite 403, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19107.

Ronald Legnani
SOUTHINGTON – Ronald Legnani, 62, of Butternut Lane, loving husband of Lorraine (Reznik) Legnani, died Saturday afternoon (April 26, 2003) at The Hospital for Special Care in New Britain. Born in New Britain, the son of the late John and the late Mary (Grasio) Legnani, he graduated from New Britain High School, was a fireman for the City of New Britain until his retirement, and most recently was a sales representative of medical products. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Garry and Elizabeth Legnani of Ithaca, New York, a daughter, Carolyn Legnani of Newington, a brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Christine Legnani of Moodus, and a grandson, Eric Christopher Legnani. A memorial service will be held Wednesday evening (April 30, 2003) at 8pm at Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Kensington, the Rev. Will Baumgartner officiating. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday (April 30, 2003) 6pm until the time of the service. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to Franciscan Home and Hospice Care, P.O. Box 4001, Meriden 06450-0898.
