Nancy Lashenka Nancy (Wojack) Lashenka
Nancy Lashenka Nancy (Wojack) Lashenka, 44, of Juno Isles, Fla., died on Aug. 8 [2000] at Good Samaritan Medical Center, West Palm Beach, Fla. She was born in New Britain and graduated from Berlin High School in 1974. Her family lived in Newington prior to moving to Florida 15 years ago. For the past six years, she worked for Ecclestone Signature Homes of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. She is survived by her husband, Peter Lashenka of Juno Isles; a daughter, Jen Maule of Orlando; a son, Peter F. Lashenka, his wife, Jean and their infant son, Peter D. Lashenka; her parents, Ted and Audrey Wojack of Berlin; a sister, Cheryl Wojack of Bristol; and a brother, Tom Wojack of Fairfield, Fla. A funeral service was held in Florida on Aug. 12. Burial was in Riverside Memorial Park, Tequesta, Fla. A memorial service was held on Aug. 19 at Kensington Congregational Church. Revs. David Williamson and John Afman officiated.
Dillon J. Daniels
Dillon James Daniels, 11, of Worthington Point Road, son of Brian Austin and Jane (Fortier) Daniels, died on Aug. 22 [2000].
Born in Norwich, he attended Willard School, was a member of the United Methodist Church of East Berlin, and loved soccer and cooking.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Farin; a sister, Chrystal; his maternal grandparents, Charles and Ruth Fortier of Charlestown, R.I.; three uncles and one aunt, Dean Daniels, Michael and Kathy Daniels and Charles Fortier; and three cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Heather Leigh Daniels.
A funeral service was held on Aug. 25 at United Methodist Church of East Berlin. Burial followed in Wilcox Cemetery, East Berlin. Porter's Funeral Service, Kensington, was in charge of arrangements.
JOSEPH P. PALMIERI
Joseph Paul Palmieri, 69, of Newington, formerly of Kensington, died on Aug. 7 [2002] at New Britain General Hospital. Born in Old Forge, Pa., he was the son of the late Dominic Palmieri St. and Maria (Palmere) Palmieri.
He was a member of the American Legion in New Britain, the Hiberian Club and the Elks of Westbrook.
He is survived by four daughters and one son, Vivian Lamb of Cromwell, Joanne Palmieri of Newington, Donna Palmieri of Florida, Lucille Palmere of Wethersfield and Joseph Palmere of Kensington; two sisters, Carmella Bordo of Pennsylvania and Rosemary Morgan of Forestville; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held in Old Forge, on Aug. 9. Burial followed in Old Forge Cemetery. Berlin Memorial Funeral Home, Kensington, was in charge of arrangements.
ADELE CANNELL
Adele (Padelli) Cannell, 98, of High Road, died on Aug. 11 [2002] at Ledgecrest Convalescent Home. Born in Kensington, she was the widow of Bertram Cannell and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Ruffoni) Padelli.
After helping out in the family grocery store, Padelli's on Main Street, she was employed as a bookkeeper by American Paper Goods where she retired. She was a charter member and held office in St. Paul's Ladies Guild, where in 1996, she was honored for her 60 years of devoted service.
She also was a charter member and held office in St. Ann's of St. Paul's and the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the Italian Fraternal Society of New Britain, the New Britain Catholic Council of Women and was secretary of Berlin Grange #24. She was active with the Berlin seniors and volunteered at New Britain General Hospital, bloodmobile and the Veterans Administration of Newington.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great-grand nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Charles Padelli and Joseph Padelli Jr., and four sisters, Mary Prey, Elizabeth Frigo, Ann Puglise and Josephine Gormley.
A Mass of Christian burial was held on Aug. 14 at St. Paul's Church, followed by burial at St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Berlin Memorial Funeral Home, Kensington, was in charge of arrangements.
JOSEPHINE B. BIGHINATTI
Josephine "Jo" (Brignoli) Bighinatti, 100, formerly of Berlin, died on Aug. 12 [2002] at Andrew House in New Britain, with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Leon Bighinatti.
Born in Old Forge, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Assunta Brignoli. She grew up in Berlin, moving to New York, New Jersey, Hamden and back to Berlin, making her home with her daughters and their husbands.
She was a member of St. Paul's Church and an auxiliary member of The Legion of Mary for more than 30 years. She was also a member of the Berlin seniors. She was employed at D&L Department Store for 15 years before retiring in 1973.
She is survived by two daughters, Lois Kelliher and her husband, Joseph, of Southington, and Barbara Brochetti and her husband, Henry, of Kensington; a sister, Mary Portadin of New York City; four grandchildren, Stephen Brochetti and his wife, Joyce, of Berlin, Linda B. Laviana and her husband, Marc, of Berlin, Kathleen Kelliher of Plainville and her friend, Tom Peichert, and James Kelliher and his wife, Pamela, of North Carolina; six great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Brittany Brochetti, Tara Jo and Daniel Laviana, all of Berlin, and Shawn and Chad Kelliher of North Carolina; and several nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by two sisters, Emma Roera and Dina Vaccon, and two brothers, Louis and Raymond Brignoli.
Funeral services were held on Aug. 16 at Porter's Funeral Home, Kensington, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Paul's Church. Interment followed in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain.

WILLIAM D. SKENE
William D. Skene, formerly of Berlin, died on Aug. 13 [2002] in New Haven.
A resident of St. Augustine, Fla., he was the husband of Eleanor Peterson. Born in New Britain, he was the son of the late George Skene and late Estelle Lyons of East Berlin. A graduate of Berlin High School, he was an electrician by trade with Local #90 of New Haven until his retirement in 1996. At age 18, following in his father's and brother's footsteps, he joined the East Berlin Volunteer Fire Department and became an assistant fire chief for 15 years before relocating to Clinton. He was a member of the Connecticut Fire Chiefs Association and the Elks Lodge #957 of New Britain.
In addition to his wife, he leaves behind three sisters-in-law, Barbara Maule, and her husband Philip, Genevieve Skene and Janice Skene; a brother-in-law, Norman Martinelli; and two great-nieces, Amanda and Alicia Maule, all residents of East Berlin; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Sue and Rich Piedemonte of Higganum He was predeceased by three brothers, George Jr., Ernest and John, and a sister, Marguerite Martinelli.
A memorial service was held on Aug. 17 at Sacred Heart Church, East Berlin. Interment followed in Wilcox Cemetery.

MONICA A. ZACK
Monica A. Zack, formerly of Four Rod Road, died on Nov. 18 [2002] at New Britain General Hospital.
Born in New Britain, she resided in Berlin/Kensington all of her life. The widow of Stanley E. Zack and the daughter of the late Nicholas and Amelia Cieniewicz, she was a member of St. Paul’s Church. She did cushion upholstering for several upholsterers in New Britain, Berlin and surrounding towns for many years.
She is survived by a daughter, Eleanor Lavigne of Kensington; a son, William S. Zack of Georgia; one brother, John Cieniewicz of Middletown; five grandchildren, Jeffrey, Shelley and Pamela Lavigne and Cindy and William Zack Jr.; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held at a future date. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
