Mary A. Smith
BERLIN – Mary A. Smith of Berlin was called to her eternal home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday (July 16, 2004) after a long illness. Born in New Britain, the daughter of the late Raymond and the late Alice (Creagh) Smith, she was a graduate of New Britain General Hospital School of Nursing and St. Joseph College, West Hartford, and began her nursing career at New Britain General Hospital where it ended after forty years of service. During those years she held a number of supervisory positions, and at the time of her retirement she was Assistant Director of Nursing Service. After her retirement she volunteered in the hospital’s Pastoral Ministry Department. She was a member of the New Britain General Hospital Nursing Alumni, the Catholic Nurses Society, the Berlin Nurses, and St. Paul’s Church. She leaves a sister, Frances R. Smith of Berlin. Burial was Tuesday (July 20, 2004) in the family plot in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Britain.

Ann (Warren) Bernadino
KENSINGTON – Ann (Warren) Bernadino, 65, a life-long resident of Kensington before moving to Southington 21 years ago, beloved wife of Barry Bernadino for 45 years, died Friday (July 9, 2004) at Hospice in Branford after a courageous battle with lung cancer. The daughter of the late Raymond and the late Bernice Warren, she was educated in New Britain Catholic Schools and graduated from Morse School of Business in Hartford, and was a phenomenal business woman and artist who operated her own ceramics/crafts show promotion business in the 1970's. From the 1990's until her death, she pursued her true passion, antiques, as a dealer and collector and became very successful with her own label, "Annie B's antiques". She began with retail space in group shops such as the Plantsville General Store, Glastonbury Axe Factory, and Collinsville Antiques as well as her own small shop, and later became a pioneer and top-seller on E-Bay and specialized as a vintage textiles expert; selling to designers and collectors throughout the country and abroad. She most loved participating in antique shows, especially in Brimfield, Farmington, and the Sturbridge Textile shows. Ann deeply loved her family and closest friends, and was loyal and devoted to all who were lucky to be part of her life. She especially cherished the time she spent with her three beautiful and beloved grandchildren, David Das Bernadino of Bristol, and Samantha and Max Walter of Wethersfield. They were the light of her life, and brought her the greatest source of pride, joy, and unconditional love. She will be greatly missed by them. In addition to her husband and grandchildren, she is survived by three children, Steven Bernadino and his ex-wife Angela Das, of Bristol, Thomas Bernadino of Southington, and Suzanne (Bernadino) Walter and her husband Denis Walter of Wethersfield. She was predeceased by her brother Richard Warren. A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday (July 14, 2004) at 10am at St. Paul’s Church on Alling Street in Kensington. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain will be at the convenience of the family. Friends and relatives are invited to call at Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Kensington, on Tuesday (July 13, 2004) from 6-8pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent in her name to Lung Cancer support Community, 112 Hollywood Blvd., Euless, TX 76040.

Maria (Sbriglio) Reale
NEW BRITAIN – Maria (Sbriglio) Reale, 90, formerly of Pinehurst Avenue, the widow of Michael Reale, died Sunday (July 4, 2004) at New Britain General Hospital. Born in Canicattini Bagni, Italy, the daughter of the late Michael and the late Josephine (Randazzo) Sbriglio, she lived in New Britain almost all of her life, and was a member of St. Ann Church, and the Italian Fraternal Society. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Joseph and Adele Reale of Torrington, and Michael Reale of New Britain, a daughter, Rosalie DiValentino of Kensington, six grandchildren, Joseph, Jeffrey, Scott, and Paul Reale, Diana Corkum, and Lisa Dornfried, five great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday (July 7, 2004) at 10am from Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Kensington, with a Funeral Liturgy at 11am at St. Ann Church, 101 North Street, New Britain. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain.

Dr. Claudette J. Wallace
NEW BRITAIN - Dr. Claudette J. Wallace, widow of Deacon Elmo Wallace Sr., departed unexpectedly Monday (June 28, 2004). The daughter of the late Thomas and Frances Jefferson, she was a retired professional educator of the New Britain School District who touched the lives of a multitude of students as well as colleagues with her pedagogy and often quoted maxim, "I touch the Future---I Teach". Sister Wallace was the last founding member of the Mount Olive Church of God in Christ, in New Britain, and during her more than 60 year membership at Mount Olive Church of God in Christ, she diligently and actively served as a Sunday School Teacher, YPWW leader, trustee, and member of various churchwork committees including the Mother's Board, Missionary Board, and finance. Missionary Wallace was for several decades a State District Missionary for the First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Charles H. Brewer Jr. Dr. Wallace was a former member of the Human Rights Commission, B.E.A.M., a life member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and within that association she was a former local branch secretary, chairperson of the education committee, and actively served on a variety of committees including voters registration, youth branch advisor, and political action. Dr./Missionary/Sister Claudette Wallace was a loving mother and devoted grandmother, who leaves to remember her as "mother", "nana", and "mommy", her eldest son Elmo Wallace Jr. of New Britain, her daughter Dr. Renee Wallace of Georgia, her sister Eileen Jefferson Wallace of Middletown, her brother Willie T. Jefferson of New York City, her brother-in-law Warren Burton Sr. of New Britain, her sister-in-law, Olivia Beachum, and niece, Ruthenia Moses, both of Orlando, Florida, six beautiful grandchildren, Nicole Wallace of Plainville, and Simmi Wallace, Rajee Wallace, Claudette Wallace, Love Wallace, all of New Britain, and Michael Wallace of Houston, Texas, and three great-grandchildren Kayla, Deral, and Zaire Wallace, all of New Britain. In addition, she will be missed and fondly remembered by seven nieces, ten nephews, and a host of church family, colleagues, and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Wednesday (July 7, 2004) at 1pm at Spottswood AME Zion Church, 25 Crestwood Lane, New Britain. A private burial in Fairview Cemetery, New Britain, will be held at the convenience of the family. We invite you to share a memory of Dr. Claudette Wallace with the family at rwallace69@hotmail.com. George Willametz
KENSINGTON – George Willametz, 89, of Warner Road, husband of Irene (Chouinard) Willametz, died Saturday (June 26, 2004) at his home with his family at his side. Born in New Britain, the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Molander) Willametz, he served in the US Navy in WWII, and was employed at Spector Trucking until his retirement. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons and four daughters-in-law, John and Rebecca Willametz, David and Susan Gibeley, Robert and Marie Gibeley, and Stephen and Patricia Gibeley, a daughter and son-in-law, Susan (Gibeley) and John Elliotte, and ten grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Thursday (July 1, 2004) at 11am in Maple Cemetery, Berlin, The Rev. David J. Williamson officiating. Friends and relatives are invited to call at Porter's Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Hwy. in Kensington on Wednesday (June 30, 2004) from 6-8pm. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in his memory to Berlin Public Health Nursing Service, 240 Kensington Road, Kensington 06037, or to Hospice of Greater Central Connecticut, 40 East Street, Plainville 06062.

Nellie (Beauregard) Fournier
BERLIN - Nellie (Beauregard) Fournier, 89, formerly of Savage Hill Road, the widow of Henry Joseph Fournier, died Friday (June 25, 2004) at New Britain General Hospital. Born in Gardner, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Ronald and the late Lillian (LaCouciere) Beauregard, she moved to Berlin in 1959, was employed at McGee School in Berlin until her retirement and was a member of Sacred Heart Church in East Berlin. She is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Clifford and Marjorie Fournier of Coventry, and Francis and Althea Fournier of Meriden, two daughters and three sons-in-law, Eloise and Rollo Plumley of East Berlin, Elizabeth and Norman Letendre of Plainville, and Mortimer Howard of North Hampton, New Hampshire, two sisters, Marjorie Smith and Cecilia Carbone, both of Gardner, Massachusetts, seventeen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Dolores Howard, and a son, Charles Fournier. Funeral services will be Tuesday (June 29, 2004) at 10am from Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway in Kensington, with a Funeral Liturgy at 11am at Sacred Heart Church on Cottage Street in East Berlin. Burial will follow in Maple Cemetery, Berlin. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday (June 28, 2004) from 5-8pm. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in her memory to the Memorial Fund of Sacred Heart Church, 66 Cottage Street, East Berlin, 06023.

Orazio Catalano
KENSINGTON – Orazio Catalano, 83, of Boyer Street, the loving husband of Carmela (DiPierdomenico) Catalano, died Monday (June 21, 2004) at New Britain General Hospital. Born in Abruzzio, Italy, the son of the late Paul and the late Carmela (DiBiasie) Catalano, he served in the Italian Army in WWII, was employed at Fafnir Bearing Company until his retirement, and was a member of St. Paul’s Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Paul and Janice Catalano of Kensington, Frank Catalano of Middletown, and Lucia Catalano of Kensington, a daughter and a son-in-law, Anna and Wayne Cheeseman of Jupiter, Florida, eight grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, James Catalano. Funeral services will be Friday (June 25, 2004) at 9am from Porter's Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Hwy. in Kensington, followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 10am at St. Paul's Church on Alling Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday (June 24, 2004) from 6-8pm. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to the George Bray Cancer Center, New Britain General Hospital, P.O. Box 100, New Britain 06050-9923.
