Normand Albert Ayotte
BERLIN – Normand Albert Ayotte, 70, of Florida, Massachusetts, formerly of Berlin, the husband of Yvette A. (Dufour) Ayotte for 50 years, passed away Friday (May 7, 2004) at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in St. Agatha, Maine, the son of the late Albert and the late Anne Marie (Paradis) Ayotte, he lived in Berlin for 34 years where he worked for Fafiner Bearing Company for 9 years, and then owned and operated Midstate Formica Works from 1960 until his retirement in 1993 when he moved to Florida, Massachusetts. He was a member of St. Paul Church, the French Model Club, St. Jean Baptiste Societe in New Britain, the Indian Head Snowmobilers and the Florida Mountaineers Snowmobile Club in Massachusetts, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Besides his wife, he leaves four sons and three daughters-in-law, Danny and Janice Ayotte of Berlin, Rodney Ayotte of Meriden, Michael and MaryJane Ayotte of Kensington, and Jimmy and Donna Ayotte of Windham, six brothers, Richard and Gerald Ayotte of Kensington, Tony Ayotte of Plainville, Sylvio and Jean Paul Ayotte of Southington, and Reginald Ayotte of Parkman, Maine, three sisters, Albertine Dufour of Stockholm, Maine, and Jeannine Gallegos and Rita Thibeault of Southington, and eight loving grandchildren, Eric, Jennifer, Marc, Danielle, Jason, Darren, Leanne, and Jaclyn. He was predeceased by a brother, Bertrand Ayotte. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday (May 15, 2004) at 12noon at St. Paul’s Church on Alling Street in Kensington. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends and relatives are invited to call at Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Kensington, on Friday (May 14, 2004) from 5-8pm. Joseph Thomas Schilling
NEW BRITAIN – Joseph Thomas Schilling, 95, of 89 Cedarwood Drive, widower of Gertrude Ann (Schultz) Schilling, died Friday (May 7, 2004) at a local convalescent home. Born in New Britain, the son of the late Henry and the late Louise (Schmidt) Schilling, he graduated from New Britain High School class of 1927, and Bentley College, and was employed at Trinity College until his retirement. He was a member of St. Maurice Church. He is survived by a son, Robert Schilling of Framingham, Massachusetts, a daughter, Joan Morse of Visalia, California, ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Lois DePolo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday (May 13, 2004) at 10am at St. Maurice Church, 100 Wightman Road, New Britain. Burial will follow in West Lane Cemetery, Kensington. There are no calling hours. Charles F. Scheer Sr.
KENSINGTON – Charles F. Scheer Sr., 87, of Orchard Road, the widower of Ella Mary (Jakob) Scheer, died Thursday morning (May 6, 2004) at Southington Care Center. A native and life-long Kensington resident, he was the son of the late Charles Theodore and the late Kathrine (O’Donnell) Scheer, he graduated from High School in Meriden, was employed at Corbin Russwin until his retirement, and was the first Chief of the South Kensington Fire Department, a position he held proudly for twenty-seven years. He was a member of St. Paul Church, the New England Fire Chiefs Association, and was treasurer of the Connecticut Fire Chiefs Association. He is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Charles and Marilee Scheer of Laurel, New York, Keith and Wanda Scheer of Middletown, and William Paul Scheer of Flushing, New York, a sister, May Scheer of Portland, two brothers, Edward and Kenneth Scheer, both of Kensington, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday (May 10, 2004) at 9am from Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Kensington, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Paul’s Church on Alling Street in Kensington. Burial will follow in South Burying Ground, Kensington. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday (May 9, 2004) from 3-6pm. Grasser, Ralph Paul - April 16, 2004
KENSINGTON – Ralph Paul Grasser, 74, of Spring Street, the widower of Helen (Wallicki) Grasser, died Friday night (April 16, 2004) at a local convalescent home. Born in New Britain, the son of the late Raymond and the late Pauline (Rittner) Grasser, he graduated from New Britain High School, served in the US Air Force in Korea, and was employed at Ferndale Dairy and Guida’s Dairy, before retiring from the Berlin School system in 1985. He was a member of St. Paul Church. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Lisa Grasser with whom he made his home, a daughter and her companion, Bonnie Jean Libby and Richard Dalfino of New Britain, a brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Millie Grasser of Sun City Center, Florida, four grandchildren, Jeremy, Jeffrey, Jason, and Ashley, three nieces, and one nephew. Funeral services will be held Wednesday (April 21, 2004) at 9am from Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Kensington, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Paul’s Church on Alling Street in Kensington. Mary (Nasta) Pavano
EAST BERLIN – Mary (Nasta) Pavano, of 19 Cross Street, beloved widow of William Pavano, died Sunday afternoon (March 28, 2004) at New Britain General Hospital. Born in Rome, Italy, the daughter of the late Anthony and the late Maria (Zambrelli) Nasta, she was employed at Fafnir Zipper Company in Flushing, New York, until her retirement. She was a member of St. Ignatius Church in Long Beach, New York, and attended Sacred Heart Church in East Berlin. She is survived by a son, William Pavano of Taos, New Mexico, two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara and Paul Westerberg with whom she has made her home since 1989, and Sandra Mennella of Long Beach, New York, two brothers, Joseph Nasta of New York City, and Dominic Nasta of Toms River, New Jersey, a granddaughter, Jenni Mennella, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30am from Vanella’s Funeral Chapel, 2860 Long Beach Road, Oceanside, New York, with a Funeral Liturgy at 10:30am at St. Ignatius Church, Long Beach, New York. Burial will follow in Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, New York. Catherine Marie (Dinkelacker) Ryan
BERLIN – Catherine Marie (Dinkelacker) Ryan, 71, of Tollgate Road, died early Saturday morning at her home. Born in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of the late Martin and the late Marie (Brennan) Dinkelacker, she was a secretary at Our Lady of Fatima Church. She was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Newington. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Annemarie and Robert DalPozzol with whom she made her home, a brother, William Dinkelacker of Hyde Park, New York, a grandson, Ryan Vincent DalPozzol, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services at Our Lady of Fatima Church in New York, and burial in Maple Grove Cemetery, Kew Gardens, New York, will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Laviana, Donald Arthur - March 25, 2004
KENSINGTON – Donald Arthur Laviana, of Lawndale Street, died Thursday (March 25, 2004) at New Britain General Hospital. Born in New Britain, the son of Jennie “Jill” (Wosczyna) and the late Orville Laviana, he graduated from Berlin High School and from Greater Hartford Community College, was an auto wholesaler, and as a Fourth Degree Black Belt he was an owner of the Total Fitness Karate Center. He was a member of St. Paul Church in Kensington. In addition to his mother, he is survived by four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Alan Laviana of Plainville, Marc and Linda Laviana of Kensington, Steven Laviana of Kensington, and Robert and Bettina Laviana of West Suffield, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday (March 29, 2004) at 8:30am from Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Kensington, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Paul’s Church on Alling Street in Kensington.
