Edward Platek
KENSINGTON - Edward Platek, 62, husband of Janet (Genest) Platek, of Percival Avenue, died Saturday (August 1, 2003) at New Britain General Hospital. Born in New Britain, the son of the late John, and the late Lucy (Kristopik) Platek, he graduated from E.C. Goodwin Technical School, served in the US Navy, and was employed as an electrician with I.B.E.W. Local #90. He was a member of St. Paul Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Scott Platek in California, a brother, John Platek Jr. of Kensington, a sister, Anne DiMella of Meriden, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. A Funeral Liturgy will be held Tuesday (August 5, 2003) at 10am DIRECTLY at St. Paul’s Church on Alling Street. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends and relatives are invited to call at Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway in Kensington on Monday (August 4, 2003) from 5-8pm.
Helinski, Leopold - July 20, 2003
KENSINGTON – Leopold William Helenski, 90, of 221 Lincoln Street, the widower of Lena Louise (Ficai) Helenski, died Sunday (July 20, 2003) morning at New Britain General Hospital. Born in New Britain, the son of the late Paul and the late Victoria (Pabis) Helenski, he graduated from New Britain High School, served in the US Army in WWII, graduated from Indiana Technical College in 1949, and was most recently employed at Helenski-Zimmerer Associates until his retirement. He was a member of St. Paul Church, and A.S.H.R.A.E., the Connecticut Audubon Society, and the National Wildlife Federation. He is survived by a son, Paul F. Helenski of Kensington, a daughter, Cecelia A. Helenski of Havertown, Pennsylvania, two sisters, Anne Miklos and Genevieve Feore, both of New Britain, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Julian Helenski, and two sisters, Helen Bonola and Anastasia Klatka. Funeral services will be held Wednesday (July 23, 2003) at 9am from Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway in Kensington, with a Funeral Liturgy at 10am at St. Paul’s Church on Alling Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday (July 22, 2003) from 5-8pm. Boakye, Marie Desire - June 24, 2003
BRISTOL – Marie Desire Boakye, 50, of 10 Boulder Drive, wife of G. Kingsley Boakye, passed into eternity Tuesday, (June 24, 2003), at Hartford Hospital after battling cancer. Born in Jacmel, Haiti, the daughter of Adeline Lindor, her biological mother, of Brooklyn New York, and June and Ronald Malcolm, her adopted parents, of Palm Bay, Florida, she retired from Puritan Furniture Mart, West Hartford, where she worked for thirteen years. She was a member of First Church of Christ, Congregational, New Britain, and a former member of Ana Wamsley Temple, New Britain. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Melanie Boakye of Bristol, six brothers, Gerald Lindor of Ottawa, Canada, and his fiancé, Marie Joe, of Miami, Florida, George Lindor and his wife, Kettely, of Queens, NY, Patrick Lindor of Irvington, New Jersey, Mc-Arthur Fougy and his wife, Florise, of Poughkeepsie, New York, Dr. and Mrs. Pierrot Jeannot of Brooklyn, New York, Miguel Malcolm of Miami, Florida, four sisters, Carole Jeannot and her fiancé Ronnie of Brooklyn, New York, Mrs. Barbara Mowatt of Palm Bay, Florida, and Mercedes and Livia Malcolm both of California, an aunt, Marva Allen of Newburg, New York, and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Saturday (June 28, 2003) at 10am at First Church of Christ, Congregational, 830 Corbin Avenue, New Britain. Burial will follow in Peacedale Cemetery, Bristol. Bochan, Peter M. - June 22, 2003
BERLIN – Peter M. Bochan, 89, of 207 Lower Lane, the widower of Lottie Grace (Cieniewicz) Bochan, died Sunday morning (June 22,2003) at New Britain General Hospital. Born in Northampton, Massachusetts, the son of the late Michael and the late Sophie (Perczek) Bochan, he was employed at Fafnir Bearing Company, and retired from Lower Lane Dairy. He is survived by a son David P. Bochan of Higganum, a daughter, Madeline Kowalski of Westbrook, three brothers Michael Bochan of Plainville, Walter Bochan of Southington, and Frank Bochan of Germany, two sisters, Ann Wasik of Plainville, and Mary Chiz of Niantic, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a daughter, Veronica Tessman. A graveside service will be held Tuesday (June 24, 2003)at 11am in Maple cemetery on Worthington Ridge in Berlin. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donor ’s choice.
Russell, Robert Edson - June 13, 2003
NEW BRITAIN – Robert Edson Russell, 79, of Henry Street, the husband of Norma Henrietta (Herwig) Russell, died Friday night (June 13, 2003) at New Britain General Hospital. Born in New Britain, the son of the late Charles Edson and the late Ann (Richards) Russell, he graduated from New Britain High School and from Hillyar College, and was employed at The Stanley Works before retiring from the State of Connecticut Department of Children Family Services. He was a member of The First Church of Christ, Congregational, New Britain. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Virginia Russell-Marher of Bloomfield, and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Tuesday (June 17, 2003) at 1pm at Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway in Kensington, The Rev. Steven Crabtree officiating. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Tuesday (June 17, 2003) from 12 noon until the time of the service. Johnson, Olive - June 07, 2003
NEW BRITAIN – Olive May Johnson, of Wethersfield, formerly of New Britain and Wethersfield, died Saturday (June 7,2003) at a local convalescent home. Born in New Britain, the daughter of the late Dr. Theodore R. Johnson and the late Vivian (Graham) Johnson, she attended local schools, served in the US Navy in WWII, and was employed at Mount Sinai Hospital and St. Francis Hospital until her retirement. She was a member of Emmanuel Church. She leaves several close friends. A private graveside service will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery, Rocky Hill. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Agostini, Ronald Francis - October 24, 1999
NEW BRITAIN - Ronald Francis Agostini, 72, of Niantic, husband of Lillian (Rakowski) Agostini, passed away on Sunday (October 24, 1999) at New Britain General Hospital. A native of New Britain he was President of The New Britain Transportation Company and an active member of his community and a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was past President of the Connecticut Bus Association; Past President of Civitan and past member of the New England Bus Association Board of Directors. He was currently a member of Costa, the America Bus Association and the American Public Transportation Association. He was the recipient of the Golden Contractors Award and the Employee of the Year given by the Women Transportation Seminar. Mr. Agostini was also a current member of the group proposing the I-84 Bus Corridor from New Britain to Hartford. Active in community work, he worked with the St. Maurice Parish Council, the Prentice Place Board of Directors, the Friendship Center of New Britain and the Giant’s Neck Beach Zoning Board. Besides his wife he leaves his daughter Rhonda Agostinucci and husband William of Berlin; His son Peter and his wife Kim of Kensington; his son Ron (Biggie) and his wife Mary-Sue of Wakefield, RI, his brother Peter of New Britain, his sister Jean Malinowski of Old Saybrook. Much joy came from his grandchildren Daniel, Marissa, Alex, Samuel, Tyler and Benjamin. He was predeceased by his twin brother Donald. Calling hours will be Wednesday (October 27, 1999) from 4 - 8 p.m. at Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Hwy., Kensington. A funeral mass will be held Thursday (October 28, 1999) at 10 a.m. at St. Maurice Church in New Britain. Burial will follow in Maple Cemetery, East Berlin.
