Carbo, Stanislawa "Stacia" - September 27, 2005
KENSINGTON – Stanislawa “Stacia” (Nixer) Carbo, 93, of Cole Lane, the widow of Michael Carbo, died Tuesday (September 27, 2005) at John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington. Born in New Britain, the daughter of the late Ignatz “Charles” and the late Rosalia (Presca) Nixer, she was a member of St. Paul’s Church and the Berlin Seniors. She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Zysk of Canton, a daughter-in-law, Gail Carbo of Portland, three grandchildren, Dennis M. Carbo Jr., Daniel J. Carbo, and Robert A. Zysk, two great-grandchildren, Alex and Jared Carbo, several nieces and nephews, and a very special canine friend, Tori. She was predeceased by a son, Dennis Carbo. Funeral services will be held Friday (September 30, 2005) at 9am from Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway in Kensington, with a Funeral Liturgy at 10am at St. Paul’s Church on Alling Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday morning (September 30, 2005) from 8am until the departure for church.

Baker, Harrison Porter - September 20, 2005
NEW BRITAIN – Harrison Porter Baker, 87, of New Britain, the husband of Evelyn Frances (Hovey) Baker for sixty-two years, died Tuesday morning (September 20, 2005) at a local convalescent home. Born in New Britain and a Berlin resident for forty-three years, the son of the late Paul Gay Baker and the late Emily Hart (Porter) Baker West, he graduated from Mount Hermon School, achieved the rank of Major in the US Army in WWII, received his B.A. degree in economics from Wesleyan University, was a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve, and retired as vice president of manufacturing of The Stanley Works Hardware Division. He was a member of The First Church of Christ, Congregational, a member of Shuttle Meadow Country Club, and a former member of the Berlin Lions Club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Carol and Eugene Suggs of Moneta, Virginia, Joan Baker of New Britain and Wareham, Massachusetts, and Laurel and John Walker of Ashland, Massachusetts, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a nephew, James Baker. He was predeceased by a son, Robert Hovey Baker, and a brother, Lawrence Baker. A memorial service will be held Saturday (September 24, 2005) at 2pm at The First Church of Christ, Congregational. Burial in West Lane Cemetery, Kensington will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. A reception will be held following the memorial service in the church parlor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of The First Church of Christ, Congregational, 830 Corbin Avenue, New Britain 06052.

Graham, Emily Marie (Adamec) - September 17, 2005
KENSINGTON – Emily Marie (Adamec) Graham, 90, of Kensington, the wife of Robert Cotton Graham, died Saturday afternoon (September 17, 2005) at Ledgecrest Healthcare. Born in Ravenna, Nebraska, the daughter of the late Joseph and the late Mary (Borovsky) Adamec, she was employed as a Accountant at the Ferndale Dairy, a member of VFW Post #10732 Auxiliary, and a member of St. Paul Church. Besides her husband, she is survived by Dorothy and Roy Fox of Watertown, Margaret and Alan Ellison of Berlin, Thomas Veronesi of Berlin, seven grandchildren; Todd, Mark, and Paul Veronesi, Kristopher, Sara, and Kimberley Ellison, and Kathryn Fox, six great-grandchildren; Joseph, Maggie, Morgan, Emily, Samuel, and Daniel Veronesi, one sister Anne Wilchynsky and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Mary Adamec. Funeral services will be held Tuesday (September 20, 2005) at 9am from Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway in Kensington, with a Funeral Liturgy at 10am at St. Paul’s Church on Alling Street. Burial will follow in West Lane Cemetery, Kensington. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday (September 19, 2005) from 5-8pm. Her family would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude and thanks to the staff at Ledgecrest Healthcare for the compassion and care shown to Emily. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in her memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Gandolfo, Florence (Williams) - August 26, 2005
BERLIN – Florence (Williams) Gandolfo, 82, 0f Berlin, the widow of Anthony Charles Gandolfo, died Friday evening (August 26, 2005) at her home. Born in New York City, the daughter of the late Charles and the late Antoinette (LoPinto) Williams, she moved to Berlin in 1960. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in East Berlin where she was a member of the Forever Young Club and the Ladies Guild, a former member of the Weslyan Potters, a former member of the New Britain Art League, a former member of one of Berlin’s Charter Revision Commissions, a Master Gardener certified by the University of Connecticut, and spent many dedicated years helping the Berlin Lions with canned goods at the Berlin Fair. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Terry Yorker with whom she made her home, a brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Dorothy Williams of Southington, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday (August 30, 2005) at 9am from Porter’s Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway, Kensington, with a Funeral Liturgy at 10am at Sacred Heart Church, 66 Cottage Street, East Berlin. Burial will follow in Maple Cemetery, Berlin. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday (August 29, 2005) from 4-7pm.

Sivilla, Palmina - August 09, 2005
NEW BRITAIN – Palmina Sivilla, 80, of West Main Street, died Tuesday night (August 9, 2005) at New Britain General Hospital. Born in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Archie and the late Mary (Cefaratti) Sivilla, she retired from Fafnir Bearing Company, and later from the Aetna. She is survived by a niece, Barbara D. Sivilla, and a nephew, Matthew M. Sivilla, both of New Britain. She was predeceased by a brother, Matthew A. Sivilla. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain, will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in her memory to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford 06492-0100.

Rogala, Stephen Stanley - August 03, 2005
KENSINGTON – Stephen Stanley Rogala, 81, a resident of Kensington for the past twenty-seven years, and the beloved husband of Angeline Delores (Zappulla) Rogala for thirty-three years, died Wednesday night (August 3, 2005) at New Britain General Hospital after a long and courageous battle with lung disease. Born in Middletown, the son of the late Frank and the late Stella (Pietznik) Rogala, he served in the US Army in WWII, and was part of the second wave on Omaha Beach during the Normandy Invasion. Late one evening during intense fighting, he took cover in a US Army tanker to get some rest. The next morning he awoke to find his brother, estranged for several years in war activities, lying next to him. He was employed at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford for thirty-one years before his retirement, and was a member of St. Ann Church in New Britain. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his much loved step-daughter, Lois Procopion of East Berlin, a sister, Stella Petrus of Middletown, two dearly loved grandchildren, Sarah (Szczepanik) Sayko and Ryan Szczepanik, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday morning (August 6, 2005) at 9am at St. Ann Church, 101 North Street, New Britain. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain, will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Stankevich, Carol Ann (Roberts) - July 16, 2005
KENSINGTON – Carol Ann (Roberts) Stankevich, 67, of Kensington, the wife of her wonderful husband Bernard Stankevich, passed away Saturday night (July 16, 2005) at New Britain General Hospital after a short courageous battle with cancer. Born in Manchester, New Hampshire, the daughter of the late Frederick and the late Blanche (Mooney) Roberts, she lived most of her life in Kensington, graduated from Mary Immaculate Academy, received her degree from St. Joseph’s College in West Hartford, and was employed at New Britain General Hospital for thirty-seven years until her retirement as supervisor of the cystology lab. She was an accomplished soloist, pianist, and instructor, and was an active member of The New Britain Chorale and St. Paul’s Church choir. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Donna (Kaczynski) and Scott Pehmoeller, Sandra (Kaczynski) and Dan Bice, and Patty Kaczynski, a son, John Kaczynski, six step-children, Margaret Wilson and her husband Craig, Sharon Reilly, Michael Stankevich, Paul Stanson, Barbara Bowser and her husband Aaron, and John Stankevich, a sister and brother-in-law, JoAnne and Carl Katzbeck, and eleven grandchildren, Krystle and Matt Kaczynski, Christopher J. Stankevich, Mary Callie, Caleb, Erin, Maddie, and Liam Wilson, Helen and Fiona Reilly, and Ryan Stankevich, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Friday (July 22, 2005) at 9am from Porter's Funeral Home, 111 Chamberlain Highway in Kensington, followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 10am at St. Paul's Church on Alling Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday (July 21, 2005) from 6-8pm. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in her memory to The New Britain Chorale, P.O. Box 902, New Britain, Connecticut 06050.
