Anne Carter, 88, was active in Kent community
Anne “Annie” (McKay) Carter, 88, of Kent died July 18 at her home, which she shared with her daughter.
Mrs. Carter was born in 1914 in East Orange, N.J., shortly after her parents emigrated from Scotland.
She grew up in New Jersey and married John “Jack” Carter in 1986. They lived in Bronxville, N.Y., Evanston, Ill., Darien and New Canaan before moving to Kent in 1976.
In 1969, they co-founded J.C. Carter Co. in Darien. It was the first respiratory home care service in Connecticut. Union Carbide bought their company in 1978.
Mrs. Carter served on the Board of Directors of Sharon Hospital for 20 years and was an active volunteer for several Litchfield County non-profit organizations.
She was a Main Street regular who is remembered for having had a good word and/or deed for those she encountered.
She is survived by a daughter, Janne Douglas of Kent; a son, Glenn of Marin County, Calif.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many friends.

Ruth Doremus Nute, 91, had lived in New Milford
Ruth Doremus Nute, 91, a resident of Newtown and a former resident of Lynnfield, Mass., died July 22 at the Candlewood Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in New Milford. She was the widow of Philip R. Nute.
She was born March 16, 1911, in Lynnfield, the daughter of the late Milton H. and Elsie M. (Grant) Doremus.
Mrs. Nute was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1929, and Massachusetts College of Art, Class of 1930.
A resident of Newtown for 50 years, Mrs. Nute was an active member of the Newtown Historical Society and the Newtown Chapter of the Salvation Army and, during the 1960s, served as a member of the Newtown School Board. Mrs. Nute also worked at the Hawley School as a remedial reading tutor.
In Lynnfield, she was a member of the Centre Congregational Church.
Mrs. Nute is survived by a son, Robert M. Nute of Sandy Hook; three daughters, Cynthia Carter of Kingston, Ontario, Canada, Lee N. Lizotte of Verdi, Nev., and Kathleen N. Rowe of East Sullivan, N.H.; a sister, Edith Russell of Fryeburg, Maine; a brother, Richard H. Doremus of Lynnfield; and six grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at 2 p.m. at Forest Hill Cemetery, Forest Ave., Lynnfield.

William Munson Jr., 76, brother of Roxbury man
William (Levi) Munson Jr., 76, of 216 Haddad Road, Waterbury, died July 17 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury. He was the husband of Priscilla (Hoff) Munson.
Mr. Munson was born July 24, 1925, in Waterbury, son of the late William L. and Jennie (Squires) Munson.
He was a longtime Waterbury resident and attended schools in Bethlehem and Watertown. He worked at GTE of Naugatuck.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the African and European theaters in Sicily and Italy. He was a member of St. John Episcopal Church in Waterbury.
Besides his wife, Mr. Munson is survived by three sons, William of Thomaston, Patrick of Southington and Daniel of Oakville; six daughters, Jane Yuhas, Linda Brady, Eileen Summa and Lori Ayotte of Waterbury, and Nancy Modeen of Wolcott and Marjorie Miskey of Torrington; four brothers, Richard of Woodbury, Robert of Roxbury, Kenneth of Southbury and John of Oxford; three sisters, Ruth Cronin of Southbury, Helen Blazys of Watertown and Doris Buinauskas of Woodbury; 23 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The O’Neill Funeral Home of Oakville was in charge of arrangements.

Ricky Abraham, 29, nephew of New Milford man
Ricky M. Abraham, 29, of 13 Edward St., Waterbury, died unexpectedly July 19.
Mr. Abraham was born in Danbury Aug. 27, 1972, son of Joanne (Webb) Abraham-Roman of New Fairfield and the late Robert Martinez.
He was a graduate of Crosby High School in Waterbury and worked as a caretaker of private property.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Samantha White of Waterbury; his sister, Jennifer Swogger of Manchester; his grandmothers, Jacqueline Webb of Danbury and Patricia Frano of Ridgefield; his aunts, Ticia Rose of Higganum and Lisa Johr of Bridgeport; his uncles, David Webb of New Milford, Terry Webb of New Fairfield, Joseph Webb of Danbury and Alan Webb of Germany; and several nieces and nephews.
The Green Funeral Home in Danbury is in charge of the arrangements.
Cremation will take place at the direction of the family.

Thomas Muliolis, 42, longtime New Milford resident
Thomas Joseph Muliolis, 42, of Mist Hill Drive, New Milford, died July 17 at New Milford Hospital. He was the widower of Lynda S. (Scott) Muliolis.
Mr. Muliolis was born Aug. 12, 1959, in Danbury, a son of Angela (Nazzaro) Parzuchowski of New Milford and the late Joseph A. Muliolis.
He lived in New Milford most of his life. He was a graduate of St. Francis School and Canterbury School in New Milford. He worked for Kimberly-Clark for 20 years.
He was very sports-minded and played baseball, softball and football. He was also an umpire for a few years.
Besides his mother, Mr. Muliolis is survived by his stepfather, Paul Parzuchowski of New Milford; a daughter: Cassondra of New Milford; a brother, Bret Parzuchowski of Eugene, Ore.; a grandmother, Nellie Nazzaro of Danbury; an aunt, Margorie Pannozza of New Milford; an uncle, Edward Nazzaro; and several great aunts, uncles and cousins.
The Colonial Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.

Helen Winkelstern, 85, was a Bridgewater resident
Helen Katherine Winkelstern, 85, of Cedar Hill Road, Bridgewater, died July 18 at New Milford Hospital. She was the wife of Arthur Winkelstern.
Mrs. Winkelstern was born Oct. 14, 1916, in Glendale Queens, N.Y., daughter of the late George and Katherine (Limbach) Kessel.
She was employed in the order department of H.C. Bohack Co. until she became a full-time mother.
She moved to New Milford in 1976 and most recently to Bridgewater. She was active with Naomi Circle in the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Brookfield, for over 20 years. She sewed dolls for the Child Life Program at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Winkelstern is survived by a son, Robert and his wife Phyllis of Bridgewater; two grandchildren, Kenneth and his wife Alexandra, and Kristin Bramble and her husband Kevin; and two great-grandchildren, Eric and Gregory of New Milford. She was predeceased by a sister, Katherine Kessel, and a brother, George Kessel.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.

John Squeglia, 63, was father of New Milfordites
John A. Squeglia, 63, of Royal Road, Danbury, died July 19 at his home. He was the husband of Janice M. (Sacchi) Squeglia.
Mr. Squeglia was born Oct. 27, 1938, in the Bronx, N.Y., son of the late John and Yolanda Nociti.
He was educated in New York and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during peacetime. He was the well-known owner and operator of Gina’s Dog House in Danbury. He was a member of St. Gregory the Great Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, John Jr. of New Milford; two daughters, Dawn Rebeiro of New Milford and Gina Gallagher of Danbury; five granddaughters, Jessica and Kristen Rebeiro, Karly and Makenzie Gallagher, and Olivia Squeglia; two sisters, Eileen D’Alessio of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., and Barbara DiCarlo of Florida; a brother, Richard of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
The Cornell Memorial Home of Danbury was in charge of arrangements.

Stephen J. O’Beda, 85, brother of Warren woman
Stephen J. O’Beda, 85, of Lakeville, Mass., formerly of Danbury, died July 21 at Island Terrace Nursing Home, Lakeville, after a brief illness. He was the widower of Lorraine M. (Kowalski) O’Beda.
Mr. O’Beda was born in Hackensack, N.J., the son of the late John and Anna O’Beda.
He had been a resident of Danbury for many years before moving to Massachusetts with his daughter.
He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Ryan of Middleboro, Mass.; a brother, Edward of Newtown; two sisters, Mildred Massey of Warren and Betty Rucker of Hackensack, N.J.; four grandchildren, Deirdre Hanniffy of Brighton, Mass., Keith Ryan of Norwood, Mass., Craig Ryan of Colchester, Vt., and Sean Ryan of Cranston, R.I.; and three great-grandchildren.
The Ashley Funeral Home of Middleboro was in charge of arrangements.

Elvira Larsen, 93, was a resident of Washington
Elvira Larsen, 93, of Bee Brook Crossing, Washington Depot, died July 23 at her home. She was the wife of the late Michael Larsen and the late John Hall.
Mrs. Larsen was born Sept. 1, 1908, in New York City, daughter of the late Oscar and Elsie (Olsen) Stub.
She is survived by two daughters, Leila Klein of Washington Depot and Linda Cannizzaro of Washington; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford handled arrangements.

Barbara K. Ohmen, 87, was a native of Warren
Barbara (Kibbe) Ohmen, 87, of 1360 Torringford Road, Torrington, died July 27 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington. She was the widow of Minor Ohmen.
Mrs. Ohmen was born Jan. 20, 1915, in Warren, a daughter of the late Walter and Ethel (White) Kibbe.
She is survived by three sons, Alfred of New Haven, Thomas of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Leon of Canaan; two brothers, Dan Kibbe of Torrington and George Kibbe of California; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.

Connie A. Savoir, 52, had worked at Kimberly-Clark
Connie A. Savoir, 52, died July 30 at New Milford Hospital. She was the wife of Brian G. Savoir.
Mrs. Savoir was born Oct. 28, 1949, in Malone, N.Y., daughter of the late Arthur H. and Elsie (Reynolds) LaBrake.
She had worked as a service operator for Kimberly-Clark Corporation in New Milford for 14 years, and recently worked at Trident Corporation in Brookfield.
Besides her husband of 22 years, she is survived by two sons, Timothy Russell of Port Lucie, Fla., and Tony Russell of Fort Covington, N.Y.; a daughter, Suzanne Delosh of Massena, N.Y.; a brother, Steven A. LaBrake of Gouvernor, N.Y.; a sister, Ann Pollett of North Oxford, Mass.; and four grandchildren.
The Colonial Funeral Home in New Milford is in charge of the arrangements.

Joan F. Chamberlin, 68, mother of New Milford man
Joan F. (House) Chamberlin, 68, of Summerton, S.C., died July 26. She was the wife of Theodore Chamberlin.
Mrs. Chamberlin was born and raised in Redding. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Edith (Banks) House.
Prior to her retirement in 1995, she was employed as a bookkeeper for Humphrey Brothers Auto Parts in Danbury for 23 years and later at New Milford Block and Supply.
She was a member of the Summerton United Methodist Church, where she was a weekly greeter. She was also a member of the Lake Marian Piece Makers Quilters Club.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Chamberlin is survived by two daughters, Darlene Clark of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., and Dawn Adams of Bantam; a son, Mark of New Milford; two sisters, Shirley Johnson of West Redding and Mary “Mae” Dickerson of Sandy Hook; an aunt and uncle, Martha and Pat Cyr of Redding; and seven grandchildren.
The Bouton Funeral Home of Georgetown was in charge of arrangements.
