Guy H. Gilbert, 63, father of Washington man
Guy H. Gilbert, 63, of Esthers Lane, Morris, died Sept. 21 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington. He was the widower of Nancy L. (Anderson) Gilbert.
Mr. Gilbert was born July 9, 1939, in Watertown, son of the late William J. and Helen A. (Woodward) Gilbert.
He worked at Morris House Movers for 30 years. He enjoyed hunting.
He is survived by four sons, Steven of Morris, Edward of Washington, Douglas of New York and Michael of Bethlehem; a daughter, Sandra Deacon of Litchfield; a sister, Gertrude Plungis of Social Circle, Ga.; and five grandchildren.

Anna Wargo, 86, was mother of New Milford man
Anna T. (Parent) Wargo, 86, of 200 Chestnut Grove, New Milford, formerly of Auburn, Mass., died Sept. 21 at Candlewood Valley Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was the widow of Francis E. Wargo.
Mrs. Wargo was born in Holyoke, Mass., daughter of the late George and Rosalie (Dennis) Parent.
She was a resident of the Waterbury area from 1938 until moving to Auburn in 1972. She lived there until moving to New Milford several years ago.
She worked as a cosmetologist and was a former member of St. Joseph Church in Auburn, where she volunteered at the Thrift Shop and was active on the Parish Activities Committee.
Mrs. Wargo also volunteered at the Sandalwood Nursing Home, Oxford, Mass., and was a member of the Alcarve Caravan No. 73, Order of the Alhambra.
She is survived by two sons, Frank of New Milford and Douglas of North Grosvenordale; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Som Phanh, 56, was a resident of New Milford
Som Phanh Bounkhoune, 56, of New Milford died Sept. 15 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Joanne (Wyant) Phanh.
Mr. Phanh was born Feb. 2, 1946, in Som Neua, Laos, to the late Thao and Nang Tha Phone Bounkhoune.
He moved to the United States in 1975, graduated from Waterbury State Technical College in 1977, and made his home in New Milford in 1984.
He worked as an assembler for Imperial Electronics Assembly for the past 11 years and was an active member of the Ariyamattaram Temple, Danbury.
Besides his wife, Mr. Phanh is survived by two daughters, Ashley and Tara of New Milford; five brothers, Phom, Bounchanh, Ging, Pouy and Thorn; seven sisters, See, Mouy, Mone, Mee, Koy, Oun and Eing Bounkhoune; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; his father and mother-in-law, Alfred and Anne Wyant; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Darin Crocker, John and Louise Wyant, and Alfred Wyant III.

John A. Cianciolo Sr., 71, father of area residents
John A. Cianciolo Sr., 71, of 253 Clay St., Thomaston, died Sept. 19 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury. He was the widower of Florence J. (Davis) Cianciolo.
Mr. Cianciolo was born Aug. 26, 1931, in Waterbury, a son of the late Philip and Mamie (Cianciola) Cianciolo.
He had lived in Cheshire before moving to Thomaston 36 years ago. He was a carpenter for BP Products in Hamden.
He is survived by four sons, John Jr. of Waterbury, Michael of New Milford, and Randi and Matthew of Torrington; four daughters, Laura Hancock of Thomaston, Joyce Bates of Gaylordsville, Jill Thorland of Warren and Wendy Terlaga of New Milford; two brothers, Fred of Cheshire and Michael of Durham; two sisters, Virginia DeFillipi of Delmer, N.Y., and Lucille Lupunio of Plantsville; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

George A. Allen, 79, was father of Sherman man
George A. Allen, 79, of Rockwell Road, Bethel, died Sept. 23 at Mediplex of Danbury.
Mr. Allen was born Aug. 19, 1923, in Greenwich, son of the late Siefried and Theresa (Sundblad) Allen.
He moved to Newtown as a child and lived in Newtown for many years before moving to Bethel. He attended Newtown schools.
For many years he was a heavy equipment operator, working for E. Paul Kovacs, Co., Iapaluccio Co. and the Austin Paving Co. He was a member of Local No. 278, Heavy Operators Union.
Mr. Allen is survived by a son, George and his wife Stacey of Sherman; a daughter, Mary of Sandy Hook; his companion, Mary Forlastro; three brothers, Robert, Charles and Paul of Newtown; two grandchildren, Olivia and Winston; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Albert.

David Churchill, 42, was resident of New Milford
David William Linn Churchill, 42, of 11 Bonnybrook Drive, New Milford, died Sept. 21 at New Milford Hospital. He was the husband of Laurie (McMilleon) Churchill.
Mr. Churchill was born May 3, 1960, in St. John’s Newfoundland, Canada, son of Jean F. Churchill of New Milford and the late Chester Churchill. He was a self-employed construction worker.
Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by a daughter, Ariana of Southbury.

Christina G. Doring, 62, was a local artist and volunteer
Christina G. (Maniatis) Doring, 62, of Old Northville Road, New Milford, died Oct. 27 at New Milford Hospital. She was the wife of George P. Doring.
Mrs. Doring was born Feb. 1, 1940, in Gardner, Mass., daughter of Georgia (Kalogerecis) Maniatis and the late George Maniatis.
She attended Athol, Mass, public schools, graduating from Athol High School in 1958 as class valedictorian. She continued her studies at Clark University in Worcester, Mass., and the Worcester Museum School of Art. During her senior year, she was elected to the Pleiades Society.
She later continued her studies in art education at the University of Bridgeport. Following graduation in 1962, she worked at the university as an admissions assistant.
After her marriage in 1964, Mrs. Doring worked for several years in Roxbury, Bridgewater and Sherman as a teacher of art and English. For the past many years, she was one of the area’s most respected artists, exhibiting her seascapes, landscapes and still life paintings throughout western Connecticut.
She was an active volunteer in the New Milford PTO, serving a two-year period as vice president for the John Pettibone School. In the 1980s, she designed “The Scholasthesaurus,” which remains the school’s symbol.
She was involved in several art groups and was a founding member of the Housatonic Art League. She was a member of the Northville Homeowners’ Association.
Besides her husband and mother, Mrs. Doring is survived by a daughter, Julie of Durham, N.C.; a sister, Andrianne Maniatis of Taunton, Mass.; a brother, Arthur Maniatis of Plymouth, Mass.; a nephew, Peter Maniatis of Kennebunk, Maine; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and the scores of friends she made during her lifetime and who admired her courage in the face of repeated and extended adversity.

Kenneth R. Allen, 75, was active in Roxbury
Kenneth Ray Allen, 75, of Roxbury died Oct. 27 at Candlewood Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in New Milford. He was the husband of Jean (Weeks) Allen.
Mr. Allen was born Aug. 4, 1927, in Lumberport, W.Va., son of the late Archie and Allie Hannah Allen.
He attended schools in Clarksburg, W.Va., and graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College.
He worked as a research chemist for Monsanto and Uniroyal Chemical Co. and was a real estate broker in the New Milford area.
Mr. Allen was a member of the Roxbury Congregational Church, where he served as a deacon and the chairman of the fund-raising committee for the new wing of the church.
He served on the Roxbury Republican Town Committee and was on the board of the Roxbury Scholarship Association.
He was a member of the Roxbury Ambulance Association and served on the Board of Directors. He was also a member of the Board of Tax Review in Roxbury.
Besides his wife, Mr. Allen is survived by a son, Kenneth of Roxbury; three daughters, Harriet of Alexandria, Va., Kathryn of Wethersfield and Jane of Roxbury; seven grandchildren; and two sisters, Virginia and Ernestine of Clarksburg, W.Va.

May Wills, 80, was mother of Gaylordsville man
May C. (Sawyer) Wills, 80, of Stratford died Oct. 22 at her home. She was the wife of Charles J. Wills, Jr.
Mrs. Wills was born in Bridgeport to the late Rene and Albina (LaCroix) Sawyer.
She was a Stratford resident for more than 75 years. She was the former owner of T.O.G. Travel in Stratford and had traveled all over the world.
She was the past president of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9460 Ladies Auxiliary and past president of the Pootatuck Yacht Club Ladies Auxiliary.
She was an active communicant at St. James Church. She loved needle crafts, especially crocheting and knitting, and also enjoyed gardening.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Wills is survived by four sons, Charles III of Monroe, Dennis of Gaylordsville, Rene of Franconia, N.H., and Frederick of Stratford; five daughters, Elaine Beckler of Merchantville, N.J., Lucille Dowling of Manchester, Evelyn Pagella of Winchester, N.H., Marjorie Prendergast of Lionville, Pa., and Hope Chonka of Stratford; three sisters, Virginia Caseria of Stratford and Jeanne Hallin and Evelyn Sawyer of Florida; 26 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her twin brothers, Robert and Rene Sawyer.

Julius Szaley, 90, father of New Milford woman
Julius Charles Szaley, 90, formerly of Fairfield, died Oct. 25 at his daughter’s home in Longwood, Fla. He was the widower of Mary (Wawrzoszek) Szaley.
Mr. Szaley was the son of the late John and Amelia (Farkas) Szaley.
He was a lifelong resident of Fairfield before moving to Casselberry, Fla., five years ago. Prior to retiring from the Sheet Metals Union, Local 38, he was an employee of the Bullard company.
He was an avid baseball fan. He loved to play, coach and umpire. He organized the first semi-pro team of Fairfield in 1938.
Mr. Szaley is survived by two daughters, Nancy Dunn and her husband Richard of New Milford, Cheryl Farmer and her husband Robert of Longwood; a son, Mark and his wife Barbara of New Fairfield; 11 grandchildren, Richard, David, Kathy and Kevin Dunn, Kim DeCarlo, Heather Pepe, Charles, Scarlett, Nicholas, JoAnn and Emily Szaley; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Nehez of Danbury; a brother, Alex of Indiantown, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara DeCarlo; a son, Charles; and a brother, William.
