Anna Reichert, 97, was a New Milford resident
Anna (Grunder) Reichert, 97, of New Milford died Nov. 3 at New Milford Hospital. She was the widow of Carl Reichert.
Mrs. Reichert was born July 28, 1905, in Rieschweiler, Germany, daughter of the late Jacob and Anna (Buchmann) Grunder.
She belonged to the Ladies Aid group at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, the AARP and the New Milford Senior Center.
She is survived by a daughter, Louise Kleppin of New Milford; three grandchildren, Pamela Ash and her husband Larry, Steven Kleppin and his wife Alicia, and Mark Redetzke and his wife Christine; three great-grandchildren, Dillon, Emily and McKenzie; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Carole Redetzke.
The Cornell Memorial Home of Danbury was in charge of arrangements.

Teri Balzarini, 42, sister of New Milford woman
Teri L. Balzarini, 42, of 117 Coalpit Hill Road, Danbury, died Nov. 1 at Danbury Hospital.
Ms. Balzarini was born June 13, 1960, in Danbury, daughter of Douglas Balzarini Sr. of Naugatuck and Brenda (Kerney) Balzarini of Danbury.
She was a graduate of Newtown High School, Class of 1978.
Besides her parents, she is survived by two sons, Dustin of Danbury and Anthony, who is stationed in South Carolina with the U.S. Army; a sister, Sharon Geegan of New Milford; a brother, Douglas Jr. of Naugatuck; and a nephew, Jason Wittman of Danbury.
The Green Funeral Home of Danbury was in charge of arrangements.

Helen Lombard, 73, was mother of Warren woman
Helen (Mars) Lombard, 73, of Parkway Terrace, Milford, formerly of Waterbury, died Oct. 29 at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven. She was the wife of Joseph J. Lombard.
Mrs. Lombard was born Feb. 5, 1929, in Milford, daughter of the late Walter J. and Mary (Scrivens) Mars.
She graduated from Milford High School and attended the University of Connecticut.
She worked at Remington Rand Corp. for four years. She was a parishioner of Christ the Redeemer Church in Milford, where she belonged to the Ladies Guild, and was a volunteer for the Milford Public Library.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Lombard is survived by two sons, Michael of North Guilford and Mark of Waitesfield, Vt.; three daughters, Susan of Warren, Kim Lasko of Memphis, Tenn., and Kathleen Gillooly of Yardley, Pa.; and four grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Joseph.
The Cody-White Funeral Home of Milford was in charge of arrangements.

Walter Herstatt, 90, father of New Milford man
Walter Herstatt, 90, formerly of Wilton and New Milford, died Nov. 2 at the Candlewood Valley Health & Rehabilitation Center in New Milford. He was the husband of Diana (de Strozzi) Herstatt.
Mr. Herstatt was born Nov. 4, 1911, in Frankfort, Germany, son of the late Emil and Helena Herstatt.
He graduated from the State School of Film and Photography in Munich, Germany. He emigrated to the United States in 1936 and served in the U.S. Army through World War II as a staff photographer.
He enjoyed a successful career as a commercial photographer in New York City for over 30 years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a sister, Erica Bohn of New York City; a son, Steven of New Milford; a daughter Mia and son-in-law Kenny Owens of Redding; three grandchildren, James, Valerie and Olivia; and a step-grandson, Kenny Jr.

Josephine Vorisek, 93, was a resident of Warren
Josephine Vorisek, 93, of Brick School Road, Warren, died Nov. 3 at the Kent Specialty Care Facility in Kent.
Miss Vorisek was born Sept. 21, 1909, in Philadelphia, daughter of the late Joseph and Antoinette (Schultz) Vorisek.
She moved to Warren in 1918 as a young girl and lived in Warren until moving to Newtown in 1961.
She was a waitress at the former Hawley Manor Restaurant in Newtown for 20 years. In 1990, she returned to Warren.
She was a 50-year member of Warren Witchita Grange and a member of the Warren Prime Timers.
Miss Vorisek is survived by a nephew, Joseph of Collinsville; a niece, Toni Richardson of Warren; and two cousins, Frank Beran of Warren and Helen Chaplin of Beverly Hills, Calif.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.

Emma Ashman, 71, was mother of Kent man
Emma (Locks) Ashman, 71, of Jackson Springs, N.C., formerly of Millerton, N.Y., died Oct. 28 in Winston-Salem, N.C. She was the wife of John E. Ashman.
Mrs. Ashman was born Aug. 10, 1931, in Middletown, N.Y., daughter of the late William and Emma (Kelley) Locke.
She was employed with Aramark Food Service and was a member of the Millerton Presbyterian Church.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Betty-Lou Wineman of Santa Clarita, Calif., and Kelley Wolcott of Copake, N.Y.; two sons, John Jr. of Jackson Springs and James of Kent; four sisters; and eight grandchildren.
The Briggs-Candor Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Toini Carnicke, 80, was a Washington resident
Toini (Hill) Carnicke, 80, of Upper Church Hill Road, Washington, died Oct. 31 at Candlewood Valley Health & Rehabilitation Center in New Milford. She was the widow of William Joseph Carnicke.
Mrs. Carnicke was born Jan. 20, 1922, in Mount Holly, Vt., daughter of the late Anton and Anna (Kolehmainen) Hill.
She is survived by a son, David of Washington; a granddaughter, Carolyn Esslinger of Arizona; and two great-grandchildren.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Ruth Sherman, 91, had been Roxbury resident
Ruth Evelyn (Snyder) Sherman, 91, of Northport, N.Y., formerly of Roxbury, died Nov. 11 at her home. She was the widow of Dr. Robert Stanton Sherman.
Dr. Sherman was born May 21, 1911, in Canadian, Texas, daughter of the late Edward and Nana (Alexander) Snyder.
She lived in Roxbury from 1949 to 1999, when she moved to Northport.
She received a bachelor’s degree from Park College in Parkville, Mo., and later was awarded a Distinguished Alumna Award. She received her doctor of medicine degree from the University of Texas Medical School in 1936.
She served as a clinical associate professor of radiology at Cornell University in Manhattan, an attending roentgenologist of the senior staff at Memorial-Sloan-Kettering Hospital in Manhattan and was a consultant in radiology at New York Infirmary.
After Dr. Sherman underwent both radical and modified mastectomies in the 1950s, she devoted much of her private practice to the diagnosis of breast cancer. She was instrumental in the development of low dose x-rays and improved x-ray film imaging and development.
She authored and co-authored dozens of medical journals and publications on mammography.
The notable awards she received included the Medical Society of the State of New York Citation for 50 years devoted to the service of the public in the practice of medicine; Woman Scientist Award in 1980; 100 Fearless Women Award in 1974; and 50 Extraordinary Women of Achievement on the occasion of the National Conference of Christians and Jews 50th Anniversary.
She is survived by two sons, Robert of Pelham, N.H., and Roger of Northport; a daughter, Ruth Perkins of Finksburg, Md.; a sister, Marjorie Reuthe of South Bend, Ind.; and nine grandchildren.

John Price , 91, had been a New Milford resident
John W. Price , 91, of Zephyr Hills, Fla., formerly of New Milford, died Nov. 9 in Royal Oaks Nursing Center, Dade City, Fla. He was the husband of Mary (McWaid-Murphy) Price and the widower of Ethel (Swisher) Price .
Mr. Price was born Oct. 22, 1911, in Hancock County, Ohio, son of the late Eugene and Iva (Wagner) Price .
He was educated in Ohio and lived in Upper Darby, Pa., when he first became associated with the J.C. Penney Company. In 1944, he and his family moved to Danbury, where he was the manager of the Penney store on Main Street until 1959.
He co-owned and operated Prox Furniture in New Milford from 1959 until 1971. He was employed by Ethan Allen Furniture Co. in Danbury until his retirement in 1984.
Mr. Price was an active member of the New Milford Methodist Church until he moved to Florida.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Barbara Seifert and her husband Paul of New Milford; a son, J. Wayne and his wife Bette of Tillamook, Ore.; six grandchildren, Lynn Fraunfelter of Mansfield, Mass., Priscilla Tiebout of Charlotte, N.C., Karen Foose of Waukesha, Wis., Mark Seifert of Reading, Mass., Wendy Thompson of Golden Valley, Minn., and Theresa Maynard of Salt Lake City, Utah; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Max of Columbus, Ga.; and a sister, Bernice Laws of Lansing, Mich. He was predeceased by a sister, June Anspach, of Jacksonville, Fla.
A memorial service celebrating Mr. Price ’s life will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the New Milford United Methodist Church, 68 Danbury Road, New Milford.

Joseph Habich, 87, was father of New Milfordite
Joseph S. Habich, 87, died Nov. 16. He was the widower of Vera (Miller) Habich.
Mr. Habich was born March 2, 1915, in the Bronx, N.Y., to Joseph and Elizabeth (Scholz) Habich. He was raised in Mt. Vernon, N.Y.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Yonkers Fire Department, rising to the rank of captain before his retirement in 1978.
Mr. Habisch resided in Yonkers, N.Y., and North Salem, N.Y. He moved to New Milford in 1981, and remained there until this year. He was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church in New Milford and was active in the community for 20 years.
Mr. Habich is survived by a son, Lawrence of Peekskill, N.Y.; two daughters, Marilynn Piscetta of New Milford and Vera Kiernan of Chappaqua, N.Y.; a brother, George of Yonkers; a sister, Elizabeth Pierdiluca of Scarsdale, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sons, Joseph Jr. and Jon; and a brother, William.

Edward J. Baird Jr., 76, father of area residents
Edward J. Baird Jr., 76, of Cornwall Bridge died Nov. 12 at his home. He was the husband of Ruth (Chapin) Baird and widower of Barbara (Rogers) Baird.
Mr. Baird was born Sept. 15, 1926, in Rockville Centre, N.Y., son of the late Edward J. and Lillian (Smith) Baird.
He graduated from Mineola High School, N.Y., and served as a Navy Seabee during World War II and the Korean War.
He was the former owner of Baird’s General Store in Cornwall Bridge from 1972 until his retirement in 1998.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Oyster Bay, N.Y., a Boy Scout leader in East Norwich, manager of a Little League baseball team, a past member of the Sharon Lions Club and a church council member at St. Bridget’s Church.
Besides his wife, Mr. Baird is survived by five sons, Edward of Malden, Mass., Douglas of Edenton, N.C., Jack of New Milford, and Kenneth and Thomas of Cornwall Bridge; three daughters, Janice Schippnick of Bloomington, Ind., Helen Carberry of Sharon and Barbara of Washington Depot; two step-children, Drew Ohmen of Cornwall Bridge and Diane DePatie of Pittsfield, Mass.; a sister, Cordial Finley of Zellwood, Fla.; 31 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The Kenny Funeral Home of Sharon handled arrangements.
