Arthur Michaelsen Sr., 70, was Bridgewater resident
Arthur Michaelsen Sr., 70, of 39 Cedar Hill Road, Bridgewater, died Feb. 18 at New Milford Hospital.
Mr. Michaelsen was born March 22, 1932, in Brooklyn, N.Y.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, an avid gardener, a skilled woodworker and a world traveler. He had lived in Ridgefield for over 20 years and moved to Bridgewater in 1988.
He enjoyed a long and distinguished career with The New York Life Insurance Company.
Mr. Michaelsen is survived by a son, Arthur Jr. of Danbury; three daughters, Diane Michaelsen-McLaughlin of Naugatuck, Nancy Burke of Ridgefield and Joanne Moore of Bantam; nine grandchildren; a sister, Della Moody; two brothers, Neil and Eugene Austin; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Catherine Bosley, 83, grandmother of New Milfordite
Catherine Bosley, 83, of 11 Jackson Lane, Bethlehem, died Feb. 18 at her home. She was the widow of Lioneil T. Bosley.
Mrs. Bosley was born May 21, 1919, in Bridgeport, the daughter of the late Howard and Catherine (Moran) Neet.
She was a retired bookkeeper.
She is survived by a son, Paul Piccot of California; a daughter, Kathleen Whitaker of Houston, Texas; and a granddaughter, Cynthia Kovalenko of New Milford.

Raymond Giddings, 83, lifelong Sherman resident and volunteer
Raymond Edward Giddings, 83, of Route 37, Sherman, died Feb. 26 at New Milford Hospital.
Mr. Giddings was born March 21, 1919, in Sherman, son of the late William and Allie (Hungerford) Giddings.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Army.
He was a buyer of men’s clothing for the Skydel’s Store in Bridgeport for 25 years, retiring in 1985. Prior to his employment at Skydel’s, he worked for the Connecticut Light and Power Company and the Giddings Garage in Sherman.
Mr. Giddings was a charter member of Sherman Volunteer Fire Department; he was a member of the Sherman Veterans Association, the Sherman Commission of Aging and the Sherman Congregational Church; and he was associated with the North Cemetery in Sherman.
He was grand marshal with his brother, Theodore, of the 200th anniversary celebration parade for the town of Sherman last year.
Mr. Giddings is survived by his brother, Theodore and his wife Anne of Sherman; a nephew, William of Vermont; three nieces, Joanne McDonnell of Vermont, Christine Leach of South Kent and Jane Cornelis of New Milford; several grandnieces and grandnephews; and his longtime companion, Catherine “Scotty” Christie of Sherman.

James Sheldon, 76, lived most of his life locally
James Edward Sheldon, 76, of Route 39 North, Sherman, died March 3 at The Kent Specialty Care Center.
Mr. Sheldon was born March 7, 1926, in Washington, son of the late Walter L. and Barbara (Boulton) Sheldon.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army. He lived most of his life in the Washington-Warren area before moving to Vermont in 1986 after retiring from the State Department of Transportation after 20 years of service. He moved to Sherman in June 2002.
Mr. Sheldon is survived by a daughter, Judy Winch of Queensbury, N.Y.; two brothers, William of New Milford and Peter of Arizona; three sisters, Marjorie Osuch and Emily Whitford of East Cornwall and Jean Mosher of Warren; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Wallace Kravarik, 72, father of New Milford man
Wallace A. Kravarik, 72, of 8 Bayberry Hill Road, Bethel, died March 3 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Dorine (Dubois) Kravarik.
Mr. Kravarik was born Sept. 6, 1930, in Norwalk, a son of the late John J. and Alice E. (Anderson) Kravarik.
He was a resident of Bethel for more than 30 years. He was employed by Connecticut Light & Power Company for 31 years before retiring in the early 1990s.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Dennis Peracchio and his wife Cama of New Milford; two daughters, Denise Peracchio of Waterbury and Reeda Ramirez and her husband Guillermo of Bethel; four grandchildren, Craig and Aaron Peracchio of New Milford, and Billy and Cody Ramirez of Bethel; five brothers, John of Brookfield, James of Lantana, Fla., Frank of Sebastian, Fla., George of Stoddard, N.H., and Lawrence of Bethel; a sister, Doris McCready of Gulfport, Fla.; three children from his first marriage, Debra Pettis, Martha Parker and Wallace Jr., and their children; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, today (Friday) at 9:30 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, Bethel, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bethel.
Charles Kolb, 89, father of New Milford woman
Charles A. Kolb, 89, of Ta’agan Point Road, Danbury, died Feb. 10 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Dorothea (Twele) Kolb.
Mr. Kolb was born Feb. 3, 1914, in New York, N.Y., the son of the late Otto and Henrietta (Wendrick) Kolb.
He was a graduate of Thomas Roosevelt High School in New York. He worked as a New York City firefighter for 20 years and later worked as a grip in the motion picture industry.
He was a member of the Guiding Star-Angel Lodge No. 0565 F&AM in Bronx, N.Y.
Besides his wife, Mr. Kolb is survived by two daughters, Karen and her husband Charles Pound Jr. of Queensbury, N.Y., and Dorothea and her husband Andrew Gruber of New Milford; four grandchildren, Charles Pound III of Dubose, Pa., Kevin Pound of Queensbury and Rebecka and Kurt Gruber of New Milford; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Otto.

Henry Gibson Sr., 89, was longtime area resident
Henry Taylor Gibson Sr., 89, formerly of New Preston, died Feb. 28 at Ashlar of Newtown. He was the widower of Harriet Gibson and the husband of Edna Gibson of Newtown.
Mr. Gibson was born Nov. 10, 1913, in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston, and was the adoptive son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles B. Gibson of Washington.
He grew up in Washington and completed grammar school there. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He served as a radioman first class and served on several ships including the U.S.S. Audrain in the Pacific theater.
After his honorable discharge in November 1945, he returned home to the Northville section of New Milford, where he resumed his employment as a carpenter.
Mr. Gibson later joined the Connecticut Light & Power Company, retiring in 1974.
He was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars and served for several years as the quartermaster of the local Andrew Mygatt chapter. He was a longtime member of the Housatonic Valley Pomona Grange.
He is survived by three sons, Charles of Fairfax, Va., Henry Jr. of Summit, N.J., and Allen of Madison, N.J.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Clayton Woodin, 79, was longtime New Milfordite
Clayton Obed Woodin, 79, formerly of New Milford, died Feb. 23 in Azle, Texas. He was the husband of Betty Lou (Yeomans) Woodin.
Mr. Woodin was born Nov. 14, 1924, in Wingdale, N.Y., son of the late Clarence V. and Bertha (Oviatt) Woodin.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy. He resided in New Milford most of his life before moving to Florida.
Besides his wife, Mr. Woodin is survived by three sons, Harold and his wife Debbie of Washington, James of Goshen and Earl of New Milford; five daughters, Sheila Marciano and her husband Mike of Torrington, Priscilla Cable and Cindy of Florida, Betty Miltner and her husband Mike of Texas, and Karen of New Milford; 22 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Robert.
Gladys McQueen, 96, longtime New Milford resident
Gladys K. McQueen, 96, of New Milford died Feb. 22 at New Milford Nursing Home. She was the widow of Daniel McQueen.
Mrs. McQueen was born April 18, 1906, in Danbury, daughter of the late Frank G. and Lillian (Brush) Krieger.
She was a graduate of the former Crandell Secretarial School in Danbury and was employed by the former Ball and Roller Bearing Company in Danbury.
She was a resident of New Milford for many years and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the New Milford Garden Club, and the First Congregational Church of New Milford.
Mrs. McQueen is survived by a son, Robert of Port Orange, Fla.; a daughter, Jan Sansom of New Milford; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

Beatrice Veach, 63, had relatives in New Milford
Beatrice Frances (Langyel) Veach, 63, of 87 Nashville Road, Bethel, died March 1 at Danbury Hospital. She was the widow of Earnest J. Veach Sr.
Mrs. Veach was born July 24, 1939, in Norwalk, a daughter of the late John and Marion (Ready) Langyel. She was a resident of Bethel for more than 40 years.
Mrs. Veach is survived by four sons, George, Earnest Jr., and Harry and his wife Mary of Danbury, and Mark and his wife Heather of New Milford; five daughters, Helen of Bethel, Marion of Sandy Hook, Penny of Bennington, Vt., Suzanne Shaw and her husband Thomas of New Milford, and Beatrice Walser and her husband Eric of Bethel; three sisters, Rose Lewis of Waterbury and Bonnie Veach and Susan Langyel of Danbury; 20 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra.

Rocky Clinton, 66, brother of New Milford woman
Rockwell “Rocky” Harmon Clinton II, 66, of Lamar County Line Road, Griffin, Ga., died Feb. 11 at the Crawford W. Long Hospital in Atlanta. He was the husband of Tamara Clinton.
Mr. Clinton was born March 13, 1936, in Torrington, son of Marie B. (Miller) Clinton of Southbury and the late Rockwell Harmon Clinton Sr.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was retired from Northwest Airlines. He was a member of the First Church of Orchard Hill.
Besides his wife and his mother, Mr. Clinton is survived by a brother, Ronald and his wife Pam of Newtown; two sisters, June and her husband Ken Smith of Torrington, and Judy and her husband Greg Mishico of New Milford; a son, Rockwell III of Texas; three daughters, Christina Anke of Nevada, Colleen of California and Andrea of Nevada; and two grandchildren, Jason Anke and Danielle Bowman.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in New Milford.
Perry Burr, 85, was area carpenter and designer
Perry Mitchill Burr, 85, of Brookfield died March 6. He was the husband of Elvi (Quist) Burr.
Mr. Burr was born Oct. 27, 1917, in Washington.
He was a World War II veteran, serving as staff sergeant in the European theater. He was a forward observer artillery survey sergeant and took part in the Rhine River crossing and the battle of the Siegfried Line. He also assisted in the capture and liberation of a prison train filled with concentration camp victims.
Mr. Burr was a master carpenter and worked extensively in the Roxbury-Washington area his entire life. He was also an architectural designer who designed many homes in the Northwest Corner of the state.
Mr. Burr was a self-taught musician and loved country music. He played harmonica, guitar and banjo.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter and care giver, Viveca of Newtown; five sons, Jonathan of Washington, Philip of Bethel, Mathew and Patrick of Brookfield and Timothy of Newtown; a sister, Barbara Peck of New Milford; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at 3:30 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Washington.
