Esther M. Ulrich, 102, was a New Milford native
Esther (Marsh) Ulrich, 102, of St. Petersburg, Fla., died April 22.
Mrs. Ulrich was born in New Milford, the daughter of the late Chauncey and Ida Marsh. She was a former member of the First Congregational Church in New Milford.
Funeral service and burial were in St. Petersburg. Rhodes Funeral Home of St. Petersburg was in charge of arrangements.
Merrill Clark Sr., 83, father of New Milford woman
Merrill Clark Sr., 83, formerly of Bethel, died April 26 at the home of his daughter, Carol Wells, of New Milford. He was the widower of Bertha L. (Betts) Clark.
Mr. Clark was born Jan 9, 1920, in Burlington Vt., son of the late Guy and Tess (Kendall) Clark.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked as a hatter for Lanes Leather Factory in Bethel and then as a blender for Kyoval Co. of Bethel.
Mr. Clark was a past member of the Ashland Bowling Club of Bethel. He enjoyed motorcycle riding and continued to ride up to his 75th year.
He is survived by three sons, Merrill Jr. and his wife Heather of Hopewell Junction, N.Y., and Ted and Chester of Bethel; three daughters, Grace Taylor and her husband Richard of Danbury, Maria Pasqualone and her husband Joseph of Danbury, and Carol Wells of New Milford; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; two brothers, Robert of Arizona and Howard of Trumbull; two sisters, Shirley McKay of Arizona and Lois Born of New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews.

Joseph Bartolotto, 50, was a New Milford resident
Joseph Bartolotto, 50, of 21 Heather Court, New Milford, died April 23 at New Milford Hospital.
Mr. Bartolotto was born Sept. 17, 1952, in Glen Cove, N.Y., son of Victor and Sarafine (Perrone) Bartolotto of New Milford.
He was a retired clerk from the Department of Recreation and Parks in Nassau County, N.Y.
He had lived in New Milford since 1996 and was a communicant of Our Lady of the Lakes Church in New Milford and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Housatonic Council No. 40, of New Milford.
Besides his parents, Mr. Bartolotto is survived by a brother, Victor Jr. and his wife Karen of New York; two sisters, Janet Selleck and her husband Joseph of New York, and Marle Genova and her husband Frank of New Milford; two nephews and two nieces; and a godson.

Kenneth Martin, 78, was a native of New Milford
Kenneth W. Martin, 78 of 54 Bogue Road, Harwinton, died April 25 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington. He was the husband of Wyla (Baldwin) Martin.
Mr. Martin was born Nov. 16, 1924, in New Milford, son of the late Louis and Ida (Veness) Martin.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. He retired as an inspector from a forklift trucking company in Pennsylvania, where he lived for 36 years.

Mary Pons-Morell, 87, mother of local woman
Mary (Barredo) Pons-Morell, 87, of Torrington Towers in Torrington, died April 28 at Wolcott Hall. She was the widow of Joseph Pons-Morell.
Mrs. Pons-Morell was born Nov. 2, 1915, in Pittsfield, Mass., daughter of the late Antonio and Generosa (Franco) Barredo.
She is survived by a son, Gabriel of Hartford; a daughter, Amelia Leavitt of New Preston; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Philomena Pacific, 73, longtime hospital employee
Philomena (Piscatelli) Pacific, 73, of New Milford died May 4 at New Milford Hospital. She was the wife of Arnaldo Pacific.
Mrs. Pacific was born March 12, 1930, in Bridgeport, daughter of the late Pasquale and Juiseppe Borgano Piscatelli.
She was a nurse’s aide at New Milford Hospital for 30 years, retiring in 1992. She had resided in Danbury before moving to New Milford in 1957. She was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Pacific is survived by three daughters, Veronica Pacific, Kathleen Chandler and Donna Lee Gabrielle of New Milford; a brother, Theodore Piscatelli of Nevada; and two grandchildren, Lisa Chandler and Ryan Gabrielle.

Marion Heim, 98, former Washington resident
Marion Heim, 98, formerly of Sunset Lane Road, Washington Depot, died Jan. 14 in New York City. She was the widow of Harry P. Heim.
Mrs. Heim attended the First Congregational Church of Washington and was active with the Washington Seniors and the Visiting Nurse Thrift Shop.
She was a world traveler, accompanying her husband on many business trips.
Mrs. Heim is survived by a daughter, Harriet Bunin; a son-in-law, Sheldon Bunin; two grandsons, William Bunin and his wife Chisato, and Peter Bunin; and a great-granddaughter, Rachel Bunin.
Burial will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at 9 a.m. at Washington Green Cemetery in Washington.

Mary Lou Barriere, 72, sister of Sherman man
Mary Lou Barriere, 72, of Hollandale Road, Danbury, died May 2 at her home. She was the wife of Paul E. Barriere Sr.
Mrs. Barriere was born Aug. 11, 1930, in Danbury, daughter of the late Lawrence and Augusta A. (McCarthy) Badaracco.
She attended local schools and was a lifelong Danbury resident. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church.
Mrs. Barriere worked as a telephone operator, was an employee of the Barden Corporation, and also worked in the cafeteria at Hayestown School. She was last employed as a nurse’s aide at Danbury Hospital.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Barriere is survived by a son, Paul Jr. and his wife Dianne of Bethel; a daughter, Ann Underhill and her husband George III of Danbury; a brother, Dominic Badaracco and his wife Joan of Sherman; a sister, Patricia Jennings of Bethel; a sister-in-law, Nancy Currier of Danbury; five grandchildren, George Underhill IV, Shannon Underhill, and Jake, Bruce and Shane Barriere; and her beloved grand-dogs Tucker and Shelly; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Louis and Lawrence Badaracco.

E rnest Koch, 93, was father of Gaylordsville man
Ernest F. Koch, 93, of Danbury died May 3 at his home. He was the husband of Lillian (Bradley) Koch.
Mr. Koch was born Feb. 21, 1910, in Heidelberg, Germany.
He came to New York in 1928 and worked as a window trimmer for Feinsons Clothing Store in the New York area. He then worked for many years as a furniture refinisher and sign painter for the former New England Furniture Company of Danbury.
Mr. Koch was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Adak, Alaska, during World War II. He played cello in the Danbury Music Center Orchestra for many years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Joseph and his wife Kathleen of Gaylordsville, and Ernest and his wife Kerry of New York City; a daughter, Mary Anne Benedict and her husband Gary of New Fairfield; two granddaughters, Laura Benedict and Clare Koch; and several nieces and nephews.

Caroline Newhouse, 93, was an artist and sculptor
Caroline Newhouse, 93, died recently at her home in Roxbury. She was the widow of Theodore Newhouse.
Mrs. Newhouse was born in 1910 in Germany. She immigrated to the United States in 1934 as the Nazis were taking over her homeland.
She was an artist and sculptor and was active in fund-raising for the arts. She served on the boards of the New York City Opera and Career Transition for Dancers, an organization she and her husband founded to help retired performers find new careers.
Mrs. Newhouse and her husband, who died in 1998, had residences in Roxbury and Manhattan. She maintained a studio at her Roxbury home.
She is survived by two grandchildren, Julie Lobel and Amy Adler, and six great-grandchildren.

Robert A. Biancardi, 69, father of local woman
Robert A. Biancardi, 69, of Waterbury died May 4 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the widower of Patricia (Rankin) Biancardi.
Mr. Biancardi was born in 1933 in Waterbury, son of the late Anthony P. and Clara (Mettarots) Biancardi.
He was a graduate of Cheshire Academy and served in the 82nd Airborne Division. He received an associate’s degree from Quinnipiac College and was a liquor salesman with Eder Brothers in West Haven.
Mr. Biancardi was the proprietor of Bob Biancardi’s East Enders Cafe in Waterbury, which he owned for 25 years.
He was a communicant of SS Peter and Paul Church. He was also an avid golfer having sponsored the East Enders Golf League.
Mr. Biancardi is survived by a son, Tony of Waterbury; two daughters, Annette Frappier of Cheshire and Dawn Krukowski of New Preston; a brother, Richard of Virginia; two sisters, Gloria Hyland of Forestville and Marie Theriault of Naples, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
His funeral will be held today (Friday) at 9:30 a.m. from the Casey-O’Donnell Family Funeral Home, 1581 East Main St., Waterbury, to SS Peter and Paul Church, 67 Southmayd Road, Waterbury, for Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Thomas Ryan, 78, was a resident of New Milford
Thomas Ryan, 78, of Old Town Park Road, New Milford, died April 26 at New Milford Hospital.
Mr. Ryan was born Dec. 12, 1924, in New York City, son of the late Daniel and Anna (Lavan) Ryan.
He graduated from Mount St. Michaels in New York and the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Long Island, New York.
He was a decorated veteran of World War II, having served as an officer in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.
Mr. Ryan was a registered land surveyor with Ryan Associates in the Newtown area for over 40 years. He also was vice president of David C. Flatau, Inc., of Sherman.
He is survived by a son, Timothy of Connecticut; a grandson, Sean of Connecticut; a niece, Janice Orzel of New York; a nephew, Daniel of Illinois; and two first cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Daniel and Ralph.
