Bruna Macchiaverna, 83, mother of New Milfordite
Bruna M. Macchiaverna, 83, of Glen Road, Danbury, died June 9. She was the widow of Pasquale Macchiaverna.
Mrs. Macchiaverna was born Nov. 21, 1919, in Florence, Italy, daughter of the late Zelindo and Isolina (Ciccarelli) Manetti.
She moved to the Danbury community in 1946. She retired from the winding department at Davis and Geck in Danbury, where she was employed for 26 years. She was a parishioner at St. Gregory the Great Church in Danbury.
Mrs. Macchiaverna is survived by a son, Robert of New Milford; two daughters, Yvonne Myers and Sandra of Brookfield; four grandsons, Stephen and Michael Myers, and Eric and Keith Macchiaverna; a sister, Ivona Baragli of Italy; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today (Friday) at 10 a.m. at St. Gregory the Great Church in Danbury, with entombment to follow in St. Peter Mausoleum.

John Chelednik, 70, brother of New Milfordite
John Chelednik, 70, of Ridgefield died June 9 at Danbury Hospital.
Mr. Chelednik was born Oct. 26, 1932, in Clymer, Pa., son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Gaul ) Chelednik.
He was an U.S. Air Force Korean War veteran.
He is survived by two sisters, Helen Bertalovitz of Ridgefield and Margie Schoonmaker of New Milford; seven brothers, Joseph of Lake Worth, Fla., Rudy of Ridgefield, and Edward, Frank, George, Robert and James of Danbury; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard.
Funeral services will be held today (Friday) at 11 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.

Patricia H. Mesnig, was Bridgewater librarian
Patricia Hubbard Mesnig died June 15 at her home in New Milford. She was the wife of the Rev. Dr. Carl E. Mesnig.
She was educated at the State University of New York at Cortland, where she received an undergraduate degree magna cum laude and a masters degree summa cum laude. She taught elementary education in Deposit and Ardsley, N.Y., and Pittsfield, Mass., retiring after 34 years.
Up until May, she was head librarian and children’s librarian of Burnham Library in Bridgewater for over 13 years.
Mrs. Mesnig was active in the Order of the Eastern Star, having served as a Worthy Matron of Irving Chapter, Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.; Unity Star Chapter, New Lebanon, N.Y, and was for many years secretary of Harlem Valley Chapter, Pawling, N.Y. She also served two years as a grand representative to the Grand Chapter of New Jersey.
She was active in church life and was ordained elder of the Presbyterian Church of Dobbs Ferry; active in the life of the First United Methodist Church of Pittsfield; and attended and was a member of the New Milford United Methodist Church since 1935, having served on many committees there.
She was a member of the Church Women United of Danbury and prepared food for many years for Loaves and Fishes in New Milford. She also participated in Habitat for Humanity.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Mesnig is survived by four step-daughters, Amy Hicks and Hope O’Brien of Colorado, Faith Roney of Oregon, and Kathryn Kawalek of California; four granddaughters; and a grandson.
A celebration of her life will take place at the New Milford United Methodist Church, 67 Danbury Road, New Milford, today (Friday) at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Kinderhook Cemetery, Kinderhook, N.Y.

Marie Budrow, 69, was a New Milford resident
Marie Ann Budrow, 69, of New Milford died June 13 at New Milford Hospital. She was the widow of Richard Alan Budrow.
Mrs. Budrow was born July 5, 1933, in Norwalk, daughter of the late David and Florence (Taylor) Van Scoy.
She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in New Milford.
Mrs. Budrow is survived by three sons, Alan of Cape Coral, Fla., Paul of New Milford, and Steven and his wife Cindy of New Milford; three grandchildren, Stacie, Jason and John; and several nieces and nephews.

Maude Worden, 98, was a native of New Milford
Maude Lillian Worden, 98, of Clinton, Miss., formerly of New Milford, died June 15 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center. She was the widow of Wallace A. Worden.
Mrs. Worden was born Dec. 13, 1904, in New Milford, daughter of the late Robert and Alice Amelia (Hendrix) Ferriss.
She lived in New Milford until 1988 when she moved to Clinton.
Mrs. Worden is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Barker and her husband L.V. of Clinton; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren.

Ben Penn, 43, brother of New Milford woman
Ben Dwayne Penn, 43, of Madison, formerly of Danbury, died June 11 at Middlesex Hospital.
Mr. Penn was born March 7, 1960, in Douglas, Ga., son of Nora Penn of Danbury and the late Bennie Harbin Penn.
Besides his mother, he is survived by a sister, Christine Grenier of New Milford; two brothers, Richard of Danbury and Gary of Newport News, Va.; a son, Eric of Danbury; and nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held next Friday at 9 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, Route 109, New Milford. Burial will be private.

Margaret Dunkerton, 86, had lived in New Milford
Margaret M. Dunkerton, 86, of Whiting, N.J., a former long-time resident of New Milford, died June 13. She was the wife of Nathan E. Dunkerton.
Mrs. Dunkerton was born Feb. 23, 1917, in Yonkers, N.Y., daughter of David and Marion Munro.
She is survived by a sister, Marion Lewis of West Palm Beach, Fla.; four sons, David and his wife Martha of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., Donald and his wife Diana of Cranford, N.J., Thomas and his wife Maureen of Brookfield, and James of Walker, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, David Munro.

Clifford Banks, 79, brother of New Milford man
Clifford Warren Banks, 79, of New Haven died June 13 at St. Raphael’s Hospital, New Haven.
Mr. Banks was born June 18, 1923, in Danbury, a son of the late Clifford and Alice (Slocum) Banks.
He was a former resident of Ridgefield and lived in Sharon and Lakeville for over 20 years, until moving to New Haven a year ago.
He enlisted in the Army with the 979th Signal Motor Messengers. He was a combat veteran of the D-Day landings, June 6, 1944, on Omaha Beach, and participated in all the Hedgerow fighting in France. He also fought in the Battle of the Bulge with the 26th Yankee Division, 101st Infantry Regiment, where he was wounded.
Mr. Banks was sent to the 42 Rainbow Division, 222nd Infantry Regiment, as replacement and was one of the first soldiers who helped liberate Dachau Concentration Camp. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Motor Vehicles Driver’s Award, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Medal.
He returned home in December 1946 and operated gas stations in Georgetown and Ridgefield for many years.
Mr. Banks is survived by two sons, Brian and his wife Rhoda of Danbury, and Bruce of Danbury; a daughter, Jacqueline White of Providence, R.I., a brother, Edward of New Milford; a granddaughter, Jessica White; and several nieces and nephews.

David W. Collins, 71, career attorney, Roxbury resident
David W. Collins, 71, of Roxbury died June 17. He was the husband of Emily Collins.
Mr. Collins graduated from Seymour High School and from the University of Connecticut in 1953 with a bachelor’s degree in history. After school, he served in the Air Force.
He was awarded a juris doctor degree with honors from the University of Connecticut in 1958. He began his law career in New York City.
He served on the boards of the UConn Law School Alumni Association and the UConn Law School Foundation and as president of each. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the UConn Law School Foundation.
In 1962, Mr. Collins joined the firm of Carmody & Torrance, where he worked until 1993. He headed the firm’s corporate/commercial group and was a force that helped grow the firm to be the largest law firm in Western Connecticut. In 1989, he was named one of the top lawyers in America.
Mr. Collins championed the integration of economics as part of the history curriculum in high schools across the country. He served on the board of directors of Bank Boston Connecticut, was president of the Waterbury Bar Association and was a member of the executive committee of the Connecticut Bar Association, Corporate Section. He also served as chairman of the Board of Finance in Roxbury and the American Lung Association of Connecticut.
After his retirement, he established a mail order gardening business with his wife and sister. He was an avid gardener, cook, traveler and UConn basketball fan.
Besides his wife, Mr. Collins is survived by a sister, Laura Levine of Trumbull; a brother, Mark of Oxford; four sons, Lincoln of Trumbull, Whitney of Oakland, Calif., Samuel of Vashon Island, Wash., and David of Albany, Calif.; four stepchildren, Julie Gebhard of Westwood, Mass., Reid Meintzer of New Canaan, Robin Gaston of Lanesville, Mass., and Holly Wainwright of Stamford; and 14 grandchildren.

Matthew Santoro Jr., 62, had worked in New Milford
Matthew L. “Porky” Santoro Jr., 62, of Candlewood Park, Danbury, died June 17 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Debbie L. (Jay) Santoro.
Mr. Santoro was born May 20, 1941, in Danbury, son of the late Matteo and Antoinette (Archiere) Santoro.
He attended Danbury schools and was a lifetime member of the community. He was a construction worker with the city of Danbury for six years.
Prior to that, he worked for Miller Construction in New Milford. He was a diesel mechanic for Danbury Racearena and was an avid fan of NASCAR.
He also owned and operated, with his wife, Porky’s Hot Dog Truck on Main Street in Danbury for many years. He attended St. Joseph Church in Danbury.
Besides his wife, Mr. Santoro is survived by two sons, Matthew III of Naugatuck and Anthony and his wife Cindy of Danbury; three daughters, Barbara Santoro, Karen and her husband Joaquin Sanango, and Kelly and her husband David Handy of New Milford; four grandchildren, Nadeana and Virginia Santoro, Nicole Handy and Angela Sanango; two stepsons, Charles and Christopher Champlin, three sisters, Anna Carlson and Marie Christopher of Danbury, and Eleanor Elliot of Poconos, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Anthony, and a sister, Jane Guierra.

Lloyd S. Riley, 83, father of New Milford resident
Lloyd S. Riley Sr., 83, of 116-D Heritage Village, Southbury, died June 21 at his home. He was the husband of Antoinette (Bombardieri) Riley.
Mr. Riley was born Oct. 24, 1919, in Port Huron, Mich., son of the late Lloyd R. and Anna (Summers) Riley.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 82nd Airborne Division in the European theater, Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge.
He retired as a truck driver for Independent Oil Co. of Stamford. He was a member of Teamsters Local No. 191 in Bridgeport.
He enjoyed the outdoors and camping. Formerly of Danbury and Stamford, he and his wife moved to Heritage Village in 2000.
Besides his wife, Mr. Riley is survived by a son, Lloyd Jr. of New Milford; a daughter, Barbara Kinzig of New Fairfield; three brothers, John of Newburgh, N.Y., Richard of Burlington Flats, N.Y., and James of Stamford; two sisters, Marion Brooks of Bridgeton, N.J., and Catherine Romano of Stamford; and two grandsons, Christopher Kinzig Jr. and Brian Kinzig of New Fairfield. He was predeceased by a sister, Janet Farina.
