Lena Shadeed, 93, was mother of local woman
Lena E. Shadeed, 93, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., formerly of Danbury, died June 18 in Port St. Lucie. She was the widow of Ernest K. Shadeed.
Mrs. Shadeed was born Aug. 1, 1909, in New York, N.Y., a daughter of the late Thomas and Angel (Waked) Mamary.
She attended New York schools. She was a resident of Danbury since 1928, and moved to Port St. Lucie five years ago.
She was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church of Danbury and of its Ladies Society.
Mrs. Shadeed is survived by a son, David and his wife Joan of Port St. Lucie; a daughter, Tina Bowman of New Milford; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Charles, a grandson, Eric Bowman and two sisters, Yvonne Knudsen and Sally Mamary.
The Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home of Danbury was in charge of arrangements.

Ann Marie Wendt, 66, mother of New Milfordite
Ann Marie Wendt of Cape Coral, Fla., died June 18. She was the wife of David R. Wendt.
Mrs. Wendt was born Nov. 26, 1936, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Thomas and Mae McKeever.
She grew up and lived in Nassau County, N.Y. She lived in Watertown and later moved to Brookfield, living there until she retired as an administrative assistant at Grolier Inc. of Danbury.
In 1997, she retired to Cape Coral with her husband. They spent their summers in Kennebunk, Maine.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Wendt is survived by a daughter, Deborah and her husband Mark Robinson of Kennebunk; a son, David and his wife Elizabeth of New Milford; three brothers, Thomas McKeever of Mastic, N.Y., James McKeever of Jensen Beach, Fla., and John McKeever of New York, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Zachary and Kristy Robinson of Kennebunk and Christopher and Ryan of New Milford.
The Coral Ridge Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Hope Hospice, 9470 Healthpark Circle, Ft. Myers, FL 33908.

Berkeley Phelps Jr., 64, was a New Milford native
Berkeley Morgan Phelps Jr., 64, of 3 John St., New Milford, died June 20 at New Milford Hospital. He was the husband of Karoline (Henry) Phelps.
Mr. Phelps was born Sept. 5, 1938, in New Milford, son of the late Berkeley and Drusilla (Carlson) Phelps.
He was a truck driver for Horse Transportation Cos. until his retirement in 2002.
Besides his wife, Mr. Phelps is survived by a sister, Joan Palladine; two nieces; and a great-nephew.
The Lillis Funeral Home of New Milford was in charge of arrangements.

Alice DiMartino, 82, mother of New Milford man
Alice Marion (Cook) DiMartino, 82, of Torrington died June 23 at her home. She was the wife of Angelo M. DiMartino.
Mrs. DiMartino was born June 4, 1921, in Winsted, daughter of the late George Jr. and Alice (Bushy) Cook.
She graduated from Gilbert High School. She enjoyed embroidery, cooking, reading, traveling, animals and baseball.
Besides her husband, Mrs. DiMartino is survived by a son, John of New Milford; a daughter, Kathy of Winsted; two sisters, Georgia Lepine of North Andover, Mass., and Elenor Hollister of Joliet, Ill.; and a granddaughter.
Calling hours will be held today (Friday) from 10 to 11 a.m. at Torrant-Kenny Funeral Home, 39 Maple Ave., Norfolk. A graveside service will follow at Center Cemetery in Norfolk.

Margaret Ermilio, 84, mother of area residents
Margaret (Calogero) Ermilio, 84, of New Milford, formerly of 51 Main St., Danbury, died June 23 at Candlewood Valley Health & Rehabilitation Center in New Milford.
She was the wife of Salvatore Ermilio and the widow of Ferdinando Calogero.
Mrs. Ermilio was born Sept. 26, 1918, in Kilizeon, Pa., daughter of the late Carmelo and Santa (Cintenio) Mineo.
She was working in the Grandma Program of the Danbury Regional Center of Danbury at the time of her retirement.
Mrs. Ermilio is survived by four daughters, Arlene Hammer of Newtown, and Carol Calsetta, Barbara Dunlap and Janet Jones of New Milford; a son, Fred Calogero Jr. of Danbury; two brothers, Frank and Charles Mineo of Florida; three sisters, Jessie Brunetti and Madeline Alongi of Long Island, N.Y., and Evelyn Hackett of Florida; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The Green Funeral Home of Danbury was in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Parkinson Association, 116 John St., New York, N.Y. 10038.

Elizabeth Braddock, 74, mother of local woman
Elizabeth A. Braddock, 74, of Bethel died June 18 at Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of Robert G. Braddock.
Mrs. Braddock was born Nov. 11, 1928, in New Rochelle, N.Y., a daughter of the late Charles U. and Josephine (Mitchell) Combes.
She was raised and educated in the New Rochelle area, had lived in Norwalk, and had been a Bethel resident since 1975.
Mrs. Braddock was most recently employed as an insurance underwriter by the Taylor-Lawlor Agency, formerly of Danbury, until she retired.
She was a parishioner of St. Mary Church in Bethel and bowled in the Senior League at the Brookfield Lanes.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Braddock is survived by three sons, Stephen of Danbury, Robert of Newtown and Thomas of Lincoln Park, N.J.; two daughters, Susan Brouillette of Danbury and Elizabeth McQueen of Bridgewater; a sister, Jean Gilmore of Hilton Head, S.C.; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The Bethel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Arthur Covill Jr., 75, was brother of Warren man
Arthur W. Covill Jr. of Brookfield died June 19 at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara (Johnson) Covill.
Mr. Covill was born Feb. 29, 1928, in New Milford, son of the late Arthur Sr. and Laura (Darling) Covill.
He attended Everett Mass Trade School. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the United States Army.
He later worked as a truck driver for M.J. Stavola and the state of Connecticut. Upon retiring in 1990, he was a driver for MCCA and worked part-time for the Brookfield Board of Education.
He was a member of the Congregational Church of Brookfield.
Mr. Covill loved hunting, fishing and traveling. He enjoyed woodworking, crafting toys and folk art. He was an avid fan of UConn women’s basketball and the Connecticut Sun.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Wayne and his wife Lynne of Newtown; two daughters, Susan and her husband James Novicky of Bethel, and Sharon and her husband Major Charles Martin of Washington, D.C.; 10 grandchildren, William and Jacob Covill, Danielle, Amy and Andrew Novicky, and Charles, Christopher, Beau, Benjamin and Savannah Martin; two brothers, Harold of Warren and Kenneth of Florida.
The Brookfield Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Walter Rothschild, 83, leader in business, civic endeavors
Walter N. Rothschild, 83, of Syosset, N.Y., died June 20 at Huntington Hospital, Long Island. He was the husband of Virginia Rothschild.
Mr. Rothschild was born in 1920, son of Walter N. and Carola (Warburg) Rothschild.
He graduated cum laude from Harvard and enlisted in the Army in World War II.
He spent nine years as president of Abraham & Straus, a chain based in Brooklyn and widely known as A&S. The department store chain once comprised 18 department stores across the New York metropolitan region. The name A&S disappeared in 1995 when its parent company, Federated Department Stores, Inc., converted the stores into branches of other chains like Macy’s or Stern’s.
Mr. Rothschild’s decision to leave the corporate world in 1969 generated a front page story in The New York Times.
He became chairman of the New York Urban Coalition from 1970 to 1973, then served as chairman of the National Urban Coalition from 1973 to 1977.
He was instrumental in the 1979 merger of St. Luke’s Hospital and the Roosevelt Hospital Center and served as the combined entity’s chairman from 1981 to 1987.
He also served two terms on the Harvard University Board of Overseers.
Besides his wife, Mr. Rothschild is survived by a son, Trip of New Milford; three daughters, Nina Rothschild-Utne of Minneapolis, Minn., Suzanne of Arlington, Mass., and Jane of Sydney, Australia; two sisters, Carol Noyes of Syosset and Phyllis Farley of Manhattan; and 10 grandchildren.

RJ Siepmann, 11, had relatives in New Milford
RJ Siepmann, 11, of 56 Beebe Hill Road, Falls Village, died June 24 at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, Hartford.
RJ was born April 16, 1992, son of Barry and Dawn (Espitee) Siepmann and was named after his great-grandfather, Ray (James) Espitee.
He had just completed fifth grade at Lee H. Kellogg School in Falls Village. He was an avid golfer and was a member of The Hotchkiss School Golf Course.
He participated in many sports, but his passion was ice hockey. He began playing for the Salisbury Red Hawks and had skated the past two years with the Connecticut Junior Whalers of Newington. In addition, he made the team for next year.
Besides his parents, RJ is survived by a brother, Michael; his maternal grandparents, Phil and Joyce Espitee of Sebastian, Fla.; his maternal great-grandmother, Mary Espitee of Barefoot Bay, Fla.; his aunts and uncles, Debra and Dominick Peburn, Darlene and Tommy Powell, and Philip and Tracey Espitee of New Milford; several cousins and numerous friends; and his two pet Dobermans, Barron and Cayenne. He was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Antoinette Siepmann of New Milford.

Martha M. Gay, 68, was mother of local woman
Marthe M. Gay, 68, of 13 Pondfield Road, New Fairfield, died June 25 at Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of Donald R. Gay.
Mrs. Gay was born Aug. 10, 1934, in Danbury, a daughter of the late Victor A. and Anne M. (Lajoie) Guertin.
She attended Danbury schools. She was a clerk at the former F.W. Woolworth’s Store in Danbury and, in later years, was employed at Grolier Enterprise, retiring in 1991. She also provided companion and homecare services for senior citizens.
Mrs. Gay was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Church of New Fairfield and was a former assistant in the Mom’s Morning Out Program. She enjoyed crocheting as a hobby.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, Donald and Wayne of Virginia Beach, Va., and Brad of Waterbury; a daughter, Marlene Pettibone and her husband Philip of New Milford; three grandchildren, Kaitlyn, David and Daniel Pettibone of New Milford; three brothers, Gilbert Guertin and his wife Theresa, Arthur Guertin and his wife Sharon, and Roger Guertin and his wife Carol, all of Danbury; three sisters, Lorraine DePaolis and her husband Frank, Rita Francis and her husband Jack of Danbury, and Pauline Almgren and her husband Rolf of Ridgefield; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by a son, Roger; and a sister, Cecile Britton.
