Doris Sauer, 89 was mother of New Milford man
Doris R. Sauer, 89, of Danbury died Aug. 13 at Danbury Hospital.
Mrs. Sauer was born May 8, 1914, in Danbury, daughter of the late William and Nellie (Scott) Trester.
She was employed by Barden Corporation, retiring in 1976 after 25 years of service.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, an avid bingo player, and a volunteer at Danbury Hospital. She belonged to the former sisters of the Herman Lodge.
Mrs. Sauer is survived by two sons, David and his wife Hansine of New Milford, and Daniel Jr. and his wife Helen of Chula Vista, Calif.; a sister, Ann DeLong of Danbury; four grandchildren, James, Geoffrey, Jonathan and Joel; three great-grandchildren, Luke, Lance and Ethan; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters, Whitey, Carl, Helen and Mary.

Norbert Tarala Jr., 48, father of area residents
Norbert M. Tarala Jr., 48, of New Milford, formerly of Bethel, died Aug. 17 at his home. He was the husband of Rosanne (Carlson) Tarala.
Mr. Tarala was born March 9, 1955, in Norwalk, a son of the late Norbert M. Sr. and Emily M. (Avery) Tarala.
He was raised in Bethel and was a graduate of the Bethel High School, Class of 1973. He was employed as a quality manager for Goodrich Optical of Danbury.
Besides his wife, Mr. Tarala is survived by two sons, Norbert III of New Milford and Timothy of Kent; a brother, Lawrence of Danbury; three sisters, Mary Banholzer of Gaylordsville, Laura Taylor of New Fairfield and Kathy Devine of Bethel; two granddaughters, Emily and Kimberly; several nieces and nephews; and his former spouse and friend, Linda Chocholka of Kent.

James Lloyd, 88, father of New Milford woman
James L. Lloyd, 88, of 41 Bellevue, Meriden, died Aug. 16 at the Curtis Home in Meriden. He was the husband Sonya (Baran) Lloyd.
Mr. Lloyd was born Jan. 8, 1915, in Crosset, Ark., the son of the late Lawrence and Emma (Freeland) Lloyd.
He resided in Meriden most of his life and was educated in the Crosset schools.
Mr. Lloyd was a career serviceman. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, having served with the U.S. Marines, U.S. Army and the Naval Department, most recently in the Southington and Middletown areas, until his retirement from Pratt and Whitney.
He was a former member of the American Legion, Post No. 45.
Besides his wife, Mr. Lloyd is survived by a daughter, Dr. Kathleen Matusiak, superintendent of New Fairfield Public Schools and her husband Fred Silverman of New Milford; two grandchildren, Krista Perry of Cumberland, R.I., and Andrew Matusiak of New Milford; and several nieces and nephews.

Raymond Wescott, 75, was New Preston resident
Raymond F. Wescott, 75, of New Preston died Aug. 14 at New Milford Hospital. He was the widower of Marie H. (Shanks) Wescott.
Mr. Wescott was born April 23, 1928, in Bristol, a son of the late Vernon and Dorothy L. (Treado) Wescott.
He was a lifelong resident of New Preston and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was employed as a plant operator for the Sega Sand and Gravel Co. of New Milford for over 20 years prior to his retirement. He was also a member of the I.U.O.E. Local 478.
Mr. Wescott is survived by two sons, Mickey of New Preston and Donal of Los Angeles; three daughters, Linda Smith of New Milford, Tammy Izzo of Plattsburg, N.Y., and Ruth Sesera of Daphne, Ala.; three brothers, Vernon of San Diego, Clark of Woodbury and Rollin of Torrington; two sisters, Dorothy Fischer of Wisconsin and Eileen LaBella of Loxahatchee, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his companion, Pegi Cook of New Preston.

John Reynolds, 96, was father of New Milford man
John H. Reynolds, 96, of New Milford died Aug. 14 at the Candlewood Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in New Milford. He was the widower of Pearl (Heiser) Reynolds.
Mr. Reynolds was born March 26, 1907, in Havana, Cuba, to the late William and Grace (Agan) Reynolds.
He grew up in Manhattan and New Jersey and graduated from the Newark College of Engineering with a degree in electrical engineering.
He began his career installing audio equipment at several New York City area nightclubs which provided live broadcasts over radio. He later was employed by IT&T for the remainder of his career, retiring at the age of 62. He was a longtime ham radio operator and earned his license in the 1920s.
Mr. Reynolds is survived by a son, Glenn and his wife Gretchen O’Shea-Reynolds of New Milford; a daughter, Nancy Milazzo of Redlands, Calif.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Emily Buckingham, 83, was a native of Roxbury
Emily C. Buckingham, 83, of Roxbury died Aug. 19 at New Milford Nursing Home. She was the widow of Henry F. Buckingham.
Mrs. Buckingham was born Nov. 24, 1919, in Roxbury, daughter of the late Axel and Ida (Johnson) Rehn.
She was a health aide at Southbury Training School for 15 years, retiring in 1978. She also worked at River Glen Nursing Home in Southbury for five years.
Mrs. Buckingham is survived by a son, Robert of Bridgewater; a daughter, Christina Venezia of San Antonio, Texas; three grandchildren, Scott and Dawn of Bridgewater, and George of New Preston; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at 2 p.m. at Christ Church in Roxbury. Burial will be private.

Margaret C. Earl, 84, was a resident of Kent
Margaret Chamberlin Earl, 84, of Kent, formerly of Millerton, N.Y., died Aug. 12 at New Milford Hospital. She was the widow of Nellis Earl.
Mrs. Earl was born April 8, 1919, in New Milford, daughter of the late John and Ester (Bowne) Polanis.
Following her schooling in New Milford, she moved to Amenia, N.Y., and then to Arizona. In 1996 she relocated to Millerton and later to Kent. She was an avid card and bingo player.
Mrs. Earl is survived by five sons, Winston Chamberlin of Amenia, Gary Chamberlin of Wassaic, N.Y., Theodore Chamberlin of Copake, N.Y., Linden Chamberlin of Millerton and Peter Couchevitz of Millbrook, N.Y.; two daughters, Janice Young of Winsted and Sherry AuClaire of Lakeville; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Thomas Couchevitz.

Olive Allen, 96, was mother of Roxbury woman
Olive (Christian) Allen, 96, of South Britain Road, Southbury, formerly of Oxford, died Aug. 17 at the New Milford Nursing Home. She was the widow of Frank L. Allen Sr.
Mrs. Allen was born May 8, 1907, in Waterbury, daughter of the late Edward and JoAnna (Hildebrandt) Christian.
She was a former member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Seymour and the Ladies Auxiliary of Oxford Center Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1.
She had worked for the Evening Sentinel newspaper as a reporter.
Mrs. Allen is survived by a son, Frank Jr. of Falmouth, Ky.; two daughters, Jessie Fleming of Falmouth and Beverly Lineweber of Roxbury; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Edwin Wright, 77, was a resident of Washington
Edwin T. Wright, 77, of Washington died Aug. 15 at his home. He was the husband of Audrey (Norman) Wright.
Mr. Wright was born Nov. 22, 1925, in New Preston, son of the late Joseph and Beryl (Green) Wright.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe with the 385th Infantry Regiment, 76th Division. He was self-employed.
Besides his wife, Mr. Wright is survived by a sister, Jeanne Weeks.

Jean Acton-Barrett, 68, was a New Milford native
Jean Louise (Wright) Acton-Barrett, 68, of Cocoa, Fla., and New Milford, died Aug. 25 at the home of her son, Dwayne, in New Milford. She was the wife of Edward J. Barrett and the late Robert Acton.
Mrs. Acton-Barrett was born Sept. 30, 1934, in New Milford.
She was employed for many years as a secretary with the New Milford Tractor Company and with Garrity Construction. She was a den mother for the Cub Scouts in New Milford.
Mrs. Acton-Barrett volunteered for several years at Wuesthoff Hospital in Rockledge, Fla., and was a member of Titusville Does, No. 183.
She loved gardening, cross stitching and homemade crafts and often gave gifts of her handiwork. She also was known for her cooking from scratch, as well as her canning and pickling..
Her hobbies included shuffleboard and bowling, and she was known for her limoncello.
Mrs. Acton-Barrett is survived by a son, Dwayne Acton of New Milford; a daughter, Dawn Acton of New Milford; and a stepson, Doug Acton of Amarillo, Texas.
She is also survived by three sisters, Doris Geiger of Northville, Arvesta Zaloski of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Joan Salvas of Stowe, Vt.; two sisters-in-law, Mari Acton of Roxbury and Peggy Wright of Brookfield; two best friends, Mary Lou Stuart of Bridgewater and Jeanne Lessard of Titusville, Fla.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Paul Grossenbacher, 80, was born in New Milford
Paul C. Grossenbacher, 80, of Margate, Fla., formerly of New Milford, died Aug. 22 after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Eleanor Grossenbacher.
Mr. Grossenbacher was born Feb. 3, 1923, in New Milford, son of the late Paul and Blanche Grossenbacher.
He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II as a gunner and a radio communications expert. He was a member of the VFW.
Besides his wife, Mr. Grossenbacher is survived by a stepson, Steve Nichols; a daughter, Cheryl Johnson of New Milford; three sons, William, Mark and Paul Jr.; a grandson, Scott Johnson; a sister, Jacqueline Dooley of Roxbury; and a brother, Maurice of New Milford.
