Margaret Ellis, 83, mother of Sherman residents
Margaret A. "Marge” (Seaman) Ellis, 83, of Danbury died Oct. 1 at Danbury Hospital. She was the widow of James M. Ellis.
Mrs. Ellis was born June 10, 1920, in Danbury, daughter of the late John and Nellie (Karol) Seaman.
She was a graduate of Danbury Hospital School of Nursing and dedicated her life as an RN to child care. She was employed by Danbury Hospital in the pediatric unit, retiring after more than 35-years of service.
Mrs. Ellis is survived by a son, Ronald of Sherman; two daughters, Patricia Williams of Saint Cloud, Fla., and Margaret Blass of Sherman and Florida; 13 grandchildren, Suzanne, Karen, George, Michael, Theresa, Katherine, Debora, Jamie, Nicole, Michelle, Ronald, Jane and Helena; 15 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Seaman of Danbury; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, James, and a sister, Jane Hulse.

Doris Brofman, 97, was a resident of New Milford
Doris Brofman, 97, of New Milford died Oct. 4 at Candlewood Valley Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was the widow of Max Brofman.
Mrs. Brofman was born Jan. 16, 1906, in Vienna, Austria, the daughter of the late David and Rose (Arbeit) Jahr.
Mrs. Brofman is survived by a son, Dr. Bruce of Armonk, N.Y.; a daughter, Nancy Sherman of New Milford; and three grandchildren.

George Fairchild, 70, father of New Milford woman
George A. Fairchild, 70, of New Fairfield died Oct. 3 at his home. He was the widower of Kiyoko Seguchi Fairchild.
Mr. Fairchild was the son of the late John and Martha (Post) Fairchild of New Fairfield.
He served four years in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Fukuoka, Japan. He was honorably discharged in August 1957 and was awarded the Korean, National Defense, U.N. and Good Conduct Service Medals. He retired from the Public Works Department of the town of New Fairfield in 1998, after 38 years of service.
Mr. Fairchild is survived by two daughters, Lucille Szendy and her husband Roger of New Milford, and Susan Nolan and her husband Robert of Danbury; a son, George and his wife Jacqueline of New Fairfield; eight grandchildren, Regen, Rustin and Randal Szendy, Tyler, Ryan and Christopher Nolan, and Jordan and Amber Fairchild; a sister, Harriet; two brothers, John and Robert; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Eleanor Williams of Danbury.

Julia A. Hayes, 35, daughter of New Milford man
Julia A. (Sweeney) Hayes, 35, of Newburgh, N.Y., died Oct. 3 at her home. She was the wife of Mark Hayes.
Mrs. Hayes was born March 6, 1968, in Danbury, daughter of Thomas and Martha (Lindley) Sweeney.
She was employed at Lan Associates in Goshen, N.Y., as office manager. She was previously employed for 14 years by AWD in Danbury.
She was also a member of Women’s International Bowling League and a dedicated NASCAR fan. She was an avid boater and camper.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Hayes is survived by her father and his wife Ruth of New Milford; her mother, Martha Henry and her husband Bill of Dover Plains, N.Y.; her grandparents, Jim and Mary Sweeney of Largo, Fla.; two brothers, Mickey Sweeney and his fiancée Susan Anderson, and Sean Sweeney; three stepsisters, Leah and Alexis Henry, and Charlene Agudo; and two sisters-in-law, Emily Hayes and Barbara Enright. She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, W. Robert and Sue Lindley.

Edward Goodsell, 84, was longtime Kent resident
Edward Samuel Goodsell, 84, of Kent died Oct. 2 at Sharon Health Care Center. He was the husband of Margaret (Albert) Goodsell.
Mr. Goodsell was born April 29, 1919, in Washington, son of the late Samuel and Jessie (Woodin) Goodsell.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a self-employed carpenter in Kent for many years.
He was a life member of the Kent Volunteer Fire Department, serving for 58 years. He was also a member of the Kent Congregational Church.
Besides his wife, Mr. Goodsell is survived by a son, William of Kent; a daughter, M. Susie Rundall of Kent; a brother, Frank of Kent; two sisters, Harriet Stewart of Southport, N.C., and Bernice Lockett of Rancho, Calif.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Alexander Strachan, 61, as pastor in New Milford
Pastor Alexander "Alex” Richard Strachan, 61, of Word First Ministries Church, New Milford, died Oct. 3. He was the husband of Sue Strachan, also a pastor at the church.
Pastor Strachan was born Jan. 11, 1942, in Chicago, son of the late James and Iola Strachan.
He served as youth pastor in Houston from 1977 to 1979. He then went to Miami and joined Air Florida as head of the reservations administration and airport services departments.
Pastor Strachan moved to New York City as vice president of contract services for Pan American Airlines. He later became a vice president with the Revlon Group in New York City.
In 1988, he and his wife moved to New Milford, where he established the Great American Cleaners in Lore’s Plaza. In 1993, he and his wife co-founded Word First Ministries.
Besides his wife, Pastor Strachan is survived by a daughter, Pam Jonidis; two grandchildren, Amanda Strachan and Douglas Jonidis; a brother, John; a sister, Helen King; and his stepfather, GW Cooper.
