Helen D. Disbrow, 95, was native of New Milford
Helen (Dodd) Zeiner Disbrow, 95, of New Milford died March 22 in New Milford Hospital. She was the widow of Franklyn W. Disbrow.
Mrs. Disbrow was born Sept. 19, 1909, in New Milford, a daughter of the late Ralph C. and Elizabeth (Adams) Dodd.
She was a graduate of New Milford High School and was employed for over 25 years as the clerk of the Probate Court in New Milford, retiring in 1975.
Mrs. Disbrow is survived by a daughter, Nancy Miller and her husband Lyndall of New Milford; a brother, R. Robert Dodd of Huntington; a sister, Joan Ringenberg of New Milford; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Miller of Wallingford and Sally Shanks of Eldersburg, Md.; and a great-grandchild, Lynn. She was predeceased by a son, Allan Zeiner and a brother, William Dodd.

John Farquhar, 84, father of New Milford woman
John “Jack” C. Farquhar, 84, of West Dover, Vt., died March 22 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, Vt. He was the husband of Margaret “Peggie” (Brown) Farquhar.
Mr. Farquhar was born Sept. 7, 1920, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late Joseph W. and Julia (Cook) Farquhar.
He was a 1937 graduate of Haddonfield High School in New Jersey, where he was senior class president. He continued his education at Springfield College in Springfield, Mass., graduating in 1942 with a major in physical education. While in college he was an AAU tumbling champion, was voted MVP in his senior year in college and was a member of the gymnastics exhibition team. He served in the Naval Air Corps from 1943 until 1946 in Pensacola, Fla., as a fighter pilot instructor.
Mr. Farquhar began his career in waste paper in 1946 at Container Corporation in Philadelphia, and went on to establish Tiffany Fibers, from which he retired.
He loved downhill skiing and played in the Vermont Senior Games, where he trophied in badminton. He had a lifelong love of jazz music and achieved his dream when he hosted a Sunday morning radio show, The Magic of Jazz, in 1994 and 1995 at WVAY in West Dover.
Besides his wife, Mr. Farquhar is survived by a son, Scott and his wife Debbie of Fairfield; two grandchildren, Douglas and Andrew of Fairfield; a daughter, Victoria Cook and her husband Daniel of New Milford; a sister, Laura Reeve of Collingswood, N.J.; two brothers, Joseph of Collingswood and Donald of Mt. Dora, Fla.

Mabel Kyle, 86, headed Shepaug lunch program
Mabel (Naser) Kyle, 86, of Bee Brook Road, Washington, died March 29 at New Milford Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was the widow of James R. Kyle.
Mrs. Kyle was born Jan. 24, 1919, in Torrington, daughter of the late Clarence and Elsie (Barker) Naser.
She worked for the Shepaug Valley school district for 35 years, retiring in 1983 as director of the lunch program. She was a member of New Preston Congregational Church, where she was a former secretary for 15 years.
Mrs. Kyle is survived by a daughter, Betty Collins of Marble Dale; a sister, Elsie Cerruto of Torrington; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today (Friday) at 11 a.m. at the New Preston Congregational Church in New Preston. Burial will take place in the spring. Patricia Mazzola, 63, was nurse at Sloan Kettering
Patricia Mazzola, 63, of Kent died March 23 at her home.
Ms. Mazzola was born Feb. 7, 1942, in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of the late Nunzio and Freda (Lyon) Mazzola.
She received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Cornell University and a master’s degree from Columbia University.
She worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for 31 years as a nurse. With a tenure of 15 years, she was the longest-serving chairman of the Department of Nursing and was the first recipient of the Enid A. Haupt Chair of Nursing.
Ms. Mazzola is survived by a brother, Vincent of Baltimore; two sisters, Nina of Torrington and Maria Decker of LaJolla, Calif.; and her beloved friend, Donna Sammarino of Kent.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Marcella Kramer, 86, mother of former resident
Marcella V. “Sally” Kramer, 86, of Bantam, formerly of Schenectady, N.Y., died March 29.
Mrs. Kramer was born in Portland, Maine, daughter of the late John and Grace Dennis. She lived most of her life in New York.
Mrs. Kramer is survived by two sons, Raymond and his wife Lois of Morris, and Gary and his wife Laura of Stafford Springs, formerly of New Milford; a daughter, Susan Wilken and her husband John of New York; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Robin.
A memorial service will be held April 9 at 7 p.m. at Northville Baptist Church, 9 Little Bear Hill Road, New Milford.
John Doyle, 55, was custodian at Northville School
John A. Doyle, 55, of Willow Springs, New Milford, died March 25. He was the husband of Nancy (Erickson) Doyle.
Mr. Doyle was born July 31, 1949, in New York City, son of the late John R. and Florence (Dwyer) Doyle.
He graduated from Henry Abbott Technical School in Danbury in 1969 and became a draftsman for 26 years in various companies in the Danbury-New Milford area. He later worked at Bradlees Department Store in New Milford for six years and most recently as a custodian at Northville Elementary School in New Milford.
He was a member of the Ball Pond Volunteer Fire Department in New Fairfield.
Besides his wife, Mr. Doyle is survived by two sons, Andrew and his wife Cindy of New Milford, and John and his wife Karin of New Milford; a brother, Thomas of New Fairfield; and two grandchildren, Lilli-Ann and Ian.

Doris Hollister, 64, worked at Glenholme School
Doris Francis Hollister, 64, formerly of Washington, died March 25 in Seffner, Fla. She was the wife of Richard Hollister.
Mrs. Hollister was born July 28, 1940, in New Milford, daughter of the late Leslie and Edith (Hathaway) Coons. She was employed by Devereux Glenholme School and Park Drugs of Washington until she moved to Seffner in 1996. In recent years she divided her time between her home in Vermont and her children’s homes in Connecticut and Florida.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Hollister is survived by a son, Richard McNamee and his wife Jackie of Seffner; four daughters, Helene Palella and her husband Michael of Washington, Brenda Temple and her husband Douglas of Roxbury, Dawn Jennings and her husband George of Gaylordsville, and Robin McGrath and her husband Patrick of Washington; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Clayton and Myron Coons of Florida and David Coons of New Milford; and two sisters, Roberta Colby of Seffner and Helene Tompkins of Washington.
She was predeceased by a great-grandson, Brandon and siblings Raymond, Sharon and Leslie Coons, Janet Austin and Beverly Tompkins.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Salem Covenant Church on Baldwin Hill Road in Washington. Burial will follow at Underwood Meadows Cemetery on Mygatt Road in Washington.
Friends may call at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Sheila Herrick, 44, leaves relatives in Washington
Sheila N. Herrick, 44, of Ironwood Lane, Woodbury, died unexpectedly March 24 at Waterbury Hospital.
Ms. Herrick was born July 29, 1960, in Oakland, Calif., daughter of Frederick Herrick of Washington and Phyllis (McEwen) Herrick of Woodbury.
She worked for IBM for more than 13 years in various locations, including Fishkill, N.Y., and Norwalk.
Besides her parents, Ms. Herrick is survived by two brothers, Scott Burden of Washington and Otto Burden of Colorado, and a sister, Leona Tetreault of Clifton Park, N.Y.

Margaret Fitzpatrick, 92, worked at W.T. Grant
Margaret F. (Dolph) Fitzpatrick, 92, of 2 Pembroke Terrace, Danbury, died Aug. 4 at the Filosa Nursing Home. She was the widow of Peter Fitzpatrick.
Mrs. Fitzpatrick was born May 31, 1913, in Mt. Kisco, N.Y., the daughter of the late Clarence and Lydia (Lundgren) Dolph.
She moved to Danbury at an early age and graduated from Danbury High School in 1932. In 1975, she retired from W.T. Grant Co. in New Milford as a personnel manager. She was a lifetime member of St. James Episcopal Church in Danbury.
Mrs. Fitzpatrick is survived by two sons, Thomas and his wife Carol of Windham, N.H., and Dr. Robert and his wife Debby of Belchertown, Mass.; a daughter, Marlene Settanni and her husband Dan of Bethel; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Virginia Dolph and a brother, Edwin Dolph.

Jean Erwin, 85, was a native of New Milford
Jean Elizabeth Erwin, 85, of New Milford died Aug. 1 at Candlewood Valley Health & Rehabilitation Center in New Milford. She was the widow of Wendell M. Erwin.
Mrs. Erwin was born Aug. 11, 1919 in New Milford, a daughter of the late Bernard Templeton and Amy Bishop (Rowe) Cole.
Mrs. Erwin is survived by her son, R. Scott; two daughters, Lorna Planz and Sandra Cats; a sister, Wanda Miller; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A gathering of friends will be held in the Butter Brook Community Room, Butter Brook Hill Road, New Milford, tomorrow (Saturday) at noon.
Burial of Mrs. Erwin’s cremated remains in New Milford Center Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Barbara Gereg, 75, former NewMil Bank manager
Barbara M. Gereg, 75, of South Kent Road, South Kent, died Aug. 6 at Geer Nursing and Rehab Center in Canaan.
Ms. Gereg was born Sept. 15, 1929, in Danbury, daughter of the late Albert and Mary (Ocif) Gereg Sr.
She was a bank manager for NewMil Bank for 42 years, retiring in 1995.
Ms. Gereg is survived by two brothers, Albert Jr. of South Kent and Stuart of Falls Village, and several nieces and nephews.
